Great bar with good beers and great stafg

Went to a few pubs/bars in bath and this was the best one. Friendly staff, great ale, great banter and we didn't want to leave. Top place. Would recommend to anyone

Fantastic little boozer run by a top guy. A must visit if you are in Bath.

Couldn't review the food as we only had a bag of crisps but I tried 3 different beers and all were well kept. As to the vibe, the staff and locals were very welcoming and even indulged in friendly banter about Northeners. Being polite we let them think they won. Would definitely be my first port of call next time I'm in Bath.

Super characterful pub. Very good beer. The Landlord/bar tender, Simon, very kind, pleasant and efficient. Music for connoisseurs, never predictable and valuable memorabilia. What a beautiful discovery!

What a lovely little find. We were having a drink at another pub when we met some of the most lovely people you could find. They recommended this little pub. Me and my partner went and found it and what a nice surprise. It’s clean and tidy. The staff and customers are so friendly. Suck a joy to be in this pub having a drink. Would definitely tell people to go there. We cannot wait to go back and investigate further. Look forward to seeing you again

A small town pub with character. My first time in there for years , the barman seemed friendly enough the locals looked a bit wary . But all said and done. I think we’ll go back. But you need to go there often to be properly accepted . Didn’t have food ? I’m not convinced that they do it . Proper old English pub for a drink though . With a smoking area outside.

Came into this bar by accident about 2 years ago with my partner but couldn't remember the name of it. Everything about this place was excellent. The atmosphere was brilliant. The owner of the pub made us feel at home and very welcome. I cant rate this pub enough. The next time I visit Bath, this is the first place I'm looking for. Thanks for a great evening 👍

Just stopped in for a pint. Barman friendly. Seems like a lovely locals spot. I made the mistake of asking for a COLD beer! As much as I knew it was going to get a Kurt response! All in jest they seemed to understand and I settled for a Grolsch in the end. Can’t take the Texans outta me!

This is a hidden gem in Bath but keep it a secret as it gets a little busy. Great atmosphere, great beers, great music, shame about the Landlord (only joking). He has a great sense of humour. Guinness and a Bacardi and Zero coke couple 😁

Go here. Don’t think, don’t debate. Go. Paul behind the bar is an absolute menace in the best way. Prepare to dish it out because you will have to take it. If you want the perfect UK pub experience that hasn’t been commercialized by a Nicholson’s or Greene King, this place will be the spot. Tucked in a corridor off the main shopping lane, you will find a spot that doesn’t seat many, but is always full of smiles and laughs. If you don’t want to partake in chatter, go somewhere else. The locals will have you in stitches keeping up with Paul behind the bar. I will come to Bath just for this pub in the future and be sure to bring my friends to enjoy seeing them torn apart by some classic British humor.

Walk in and the bar owner is in there chatting with some regulars and visitors we were soon giggling and chatting with others in the bar. A lovely atmosphere

Friendly atmosphere and banter. Militaria, music, and rugby memorabilia on the walls. Music is better than your usual pub, apart from the occassional ska playlist! Regulars are good value, the landlord has a "unique" sense of humour... like Jack Dee, if he lived in the West Country and was "Welsh".

Get to know the Landlord & the regulars & you'll have a wonderful time in this lovely friendly little pub.

This pub totally made our weekend We stumbled upon it wandering round and the minister we stepped in we knew it was a great find! Paul the owner is so charming and utterly hilarious He really looked after us so much so that we ended up cancelling our lunch booking 🤣 We made some lovely friends and we enjoyed sharing abkht the history and seeing all the photos with the stories to tell on the walls You must visit if you’re in Bath. Came across this cosy, old town centre pub by accident on a cold January afternoon. My wife and I popped in to warm up with whisky macs around 4.00 pm. Small entrance bar was fairly full of 'mature' locals. Bags of atmosphere, good music (for baby boomers like us). Barman (of whom I've read some of the derogatory reviews) was absolutely fine. Welcoming in an undemonstrative way, perhaps because we were of the same vintage as the regulars. I agree with one of the recent reviewers - probably not a pub for snowflakes. And not a tourist trap nor a student dive. As mature British tourists, we liked it and will go back on next visit to Bath, sample the food and report back.

Absolutely bonkers pub. Loved the music, atmosphere and staff. 🍻👏👌

Looked a great pub, cosy, good music, went in for a couple of drinks with my mate (both females). Some banter with the bar staff about us 'being the strippers' where we could get changed blah blah. This quickly wore thin with the barman bringing other drinkers into the conversation re us being the strippers etc. Felt the butt of everyone's jokes, being laughed at rather than having a laugh with, to be honest it was mainly one loud mouthy barman. We both felt intimidated and picked on. I'm no snowflake, and don't get easily offended. But this was beyond offensive. Quickly drank up and left and won't be going back!!!

What can I say, great little pub with a great atmosphere and very good landlord owner, everyone friendly, well worth a visit and a few beers, if you are lucky you will get a few free bar pump signs 👍 I only went in for one beer and landed up having a few look forward to returning at some point John & Nicola Cambridge

Small old school pub, not many left, good beers and atmosphere.

This pub is not for snowflakes at all. If you are one it’s best not to visit. Luckily I am not and was able to join in the laughter. Great beer and if you are not thin skinned some great bander to be had. Always look forward to visiting.

Randomly went in to this pub as it looked like the quiet cozy environment I was looking for. It was that and a lot more. Friendly bartenders and locals (even the Eagles fan). I stayed a lot longer than I planned and would return if I was staying longer in Bath. Go Bengals!

This is a wonderful and atmospheric place! If you want to feel like part of the family, then welcome! Everything about this place is great, from the helpful staff to the music to the guests. I don’t recall what tempted me to set foot inside this pint-sized watering hole - perhaps the promotional sign outside … that I didn’t quite read properly. However, once inside the acerbic wit of landlord Paul proved strangely addictive. I’ve been back a few too many times in recent weeks than I’d like to admit. If you’re visiting Bath - or even live here - this is the epitome of what you need (or might have been missing).

Best pub in Bath! This place is fantastic. Small with a big atmosphere and energy. Rugby and rock and roll dominate the decor and the conversation with staff and locals. The proprietor Paul is wonderful and witty. Great selection of ciders, beers and spirits at this freehouse. Easily the best pub we’ve been in in Bath or London, for that matter!

Volunteer Riflemans Arms is a real pub. Never mind all the other Greene King Fullers "pub kit" pubs that pretend to be the real thing. Here you find hard drinking, cursing, and the friendliest Brits you will ever meet. If you have sensitive ears, no sense of humor, and don't like loud noisy pubs, go to the many fake pubs in Bath.

Best pint of ale, well served at the correct temperature by a great landlord in a cracking pub.

No food apart from crisps etc but this acceptable for a pub. Good choice of beer, cider and lagers Staff and customers are cheerful and willing to advise and small talk.

Traditional old fashioned boozer. Atmosphere ok, beer was good. Decor a bit tired and clientele were colourful.. 🤔

So…we ‘popped in’ for a pint, left a few hours later…blasted. Enjoyed every min, felt like a local, the music is a reminder of of you used to be, and still laughing at the banter. Gem of a place. One of those memories we will talk about for ever!l we will remember that day in that pub in bath! Priceless. I Dare you to wonder in, you will come out your yourself! Second visit in 6 weeks. I came back for the Timothy Taylor landlord as is bloody lovely. Cracking bunch of guys this afternoon and the landlord is a nice chap. Will be in again when back in bath.

The Landlord of this establishment is one of the worst human beings alive. It's worth a journey to witness, Also, he can keep beer. That used to be a given for a pub, but not so much nowadays, and does mean that you can drink enough to tolerate his ghastly behaviour.

In my opinion, this is the best pub in Bath. It's all I need from a pub: great atmosphere, full of locals, and the landlord with the sledgehammer wit, who by the way, makes smashing mojitos [pronounced "modgitos"]

An excellent little pub that's tucked away in the little streets of Bath... definitely worth a visit...IF you can find it 😁 There's an impressive selection of spirits to choose from, along with plenty of chilled bottles, and both beer and cider on draught. Bring a friend with you or, alternatively, make some whilst you're there. Either way, you'll have a great time here.

Great little but proper local pub 🤩

Avoid, avoid, avoid! Especially if you are female! Went in with husband for an afternoon drink. Very strange barman, clearly misogynistic, unfriendly, attempting 'jokes' at our expense which were not funny, just very unpleasant/uncomfortable. Loads of similar men standing at bar, throwing around homophobic comments...

Nice to go for a drink where the humour and conversation wouldn't be misplaced in a carry on film.landlord makes basil Fawlty appear woke. I liked it my wife most certainly didn't. Beers good too.
