Vinodhon Tandoori in Shepway

The days of a cheap curry are over but this restaurant still represents fair value for money compared to others in the area. The entrance is not too inviting, as it is tucked away but once inside it was pleasant enough. The staff were attentive enough without being over powering leaving us to enjoy the generously proportioned food. All in all we could not find anything to complain about so comes with our recommendation.

Have been going here for years. however, the new chef is not as good as the old chef, causing a decrease in food quality as it was saltyer than others, but the service and desserts are great

We have eaten here for many years and always really enjoyed the food. Unfortunately, our last few visits have been very disappointing. I believe they changed thir chef last year and ever since the food has been disappointing. The food on our last 3 visits has not been good. The food seems to be the chefs take on the classic dishes we expect, and not for the better, and over salted. That said the service and atmosphere are still good. What a shame

Vinodhon have been a family favourite for the last 17 years. They're always very professional and deliver fantastic service and good quality food.

Food was poor; tasteless. Tiny rice portion. One of the worst indian meals I've had. Also, waiter had a terrible cough; i couldn't believe he was serving food whilst so poorly. Total disregard for customers.

Possibly the worst meal I've ever had, was so bad, we left more than we eat , the sag aloo had no taste, along with the rice and our main meals

First time visit on Christmas Day and food was excellent and plentiful. Very attentive service. Will mostly certainly be returning.

Superb local curry house- this is the pick of all the local curry houses. A more varied menu and good quality ingredients. Service is always friendly and professional. Reasonable prices too especially for beer.

We didn’t visit but ordered a takeout for delivery, it was the best Indian food I’ve tasted in ages. Hot and just so yummy 😋

We dined here with our daughter and partner and the food was nothing short of wonderful. My wife pronounced the chicken handy fragrant and excellent and I had a very hot and flavoursome lamb vindaloo. The side dishes we had with the main meal - saag panir and aloo ghobi - were also very good as was the rice and naan. Others in our party explored the vegetarian dishes and pronounced those very good too. Service was spot-on even though the restaurant was very busy. Can't wait to return.

We had an amazing meal here. It was an East Indian/Bengal night. The food was delicious. Wonderful selection of fish and meat dishes. The staff are brilliant, attentive and friendly. Looking forward to our next meal there.

I only write reviews when placed really excel and exceed expectations. We are local but hadn't ventured to Hythe for a curry in a long time, we had tended to go ashford way . I'm so glad we chose the vinodhon . The service was exceptional from all the staff , we had a good chat with Bala who was very informative and happy to tell us about the dishes on the menu , helping us to make excellent choices . The clean plates spoke volumes...I have to say it was the best Indian meal we have ever had. The flavours were just amazing , so huge compliments to the very talented chef . We will definitely be back soon , we were so impressed. We had a very enjoyable evening. Nice to see a restaurant so busy on a Friday night amd still walk ins up to 10pm. Thank you vinodhon ,see you again soon . & thanks for the advice on naan bread making Bala ,we will report back !

By the far the most delicious meal out in a long time. Standard of food was first class. Friendly efficient service happy to recommend.

What an experience. Food delicious, staff friendly, atmosphere chilled. Just what we needed after a long day travelling. Everything was cooked to perfection, although everything has a tiny kick to it, which we didn't mind. Will be coming again next week for their banquet night.

We were staying in Folkestone and looked for a nearby Indian restaurant online, and after reading the reviews we chose to come here. Although we hadn’t booked and the restaurant was busy, we were seated straight away. Food was great, staff were friendly and there was a nice atmosphere.

Just awesome food at last night's Gourmet night. All dishes we tried were beyond excellent. The Vinodhon is always first class - we have been eating at the restaurant for over 20 years - but the new menu and chef have made the best, better! Well done to all at the Vinodhon. We will be back very soon. This is both a Bangladeshi and authentic Indian restaurant.

Very poor quality of food. Mixed Tandori swimming in oil with over cooked onions and lamb that must have been cooked before and reheated as it was burnt but hard. The other food we ordered had a predominant flavour of tomato with only the handi slightly distinguishable by its mild heat. Online ordering wasn’t working. A very poor experience.

I thought I would get round to writing a review on this place as they deserve heaps of praise. The food is amazing, tasty, fresh and quite simply it is the best one in the area. Friendly staff, clean restaurant, you couldn’t ask for more. Highly recommended.

All I can say is try the Bombay Sizzlers Tandoori King Prawn. Probably the best prawn dish I've had outside of India. Brilliant service from Bala. Highly recommend

tonight we had a terrible take away from this restaurant we had a lamb passanda with coconut rice and a plain nan you could not even put a fork into the lamb the sauce was bland and tasteless the rice was a not coconut but lemon and had been over microwaved the vegetable biryani was tasteless with frozen veg and again over microwaved a complete waste of £30

Went here for lunch and the staff were attentive and friendly. Food was very tasty and there was a good selection from the menu. Worth visiting and we will certainly go again.

Saturday night and the place was packed.Waited forever for service from harassed staff.Food was awful..like stepping back into the worst type of 70s curry house.We couldn’t eat some of our order and a complaint was met by a non commital shrug by the waiter.

Amazing food and such lovely service, would highly recommend! This is an authentic place for Indian cuisine that is so delicious and reasonably priced.

Wow! Popodoms crispy, dips excellent. There was a note on the menu to say they would accommodate requests for dishes not listed so I did just that and was served a delicious chicken Ceylon with no fuss. Tucked away, no music and excellent service. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

We ordered a large takeaway at 7pm on Thursday evening expecting a long wait. The food arrived just after 7.30pm and was spot on. Nice and hot. Friendly service. Quality of their food is consistently excellent. We just came back from Liverpool and had a curry there in a gourmet restaurant that cost nearly twice as much and Vinodhon beat it hands down. Highly recommend giving them a try.

After a gap of a few years we returned to the vinodhom to find it has had a make over and looks bright and clean. The food was very good with good size portions and full of flavour. Had the garlic and chilli chicken which i really enjoyed. Price for both food and drinks was very reasonable

Overall the meal was extremely nice, I had a chicken tikka ceylon & it was fabulous, I was down for the weekend from Harlow & had a very luck find.

Lovely restaurant on the high street. Excellent food and some different dishes from the normal. Duck dish and chicken with nuts was fabulous. Would certainly recommend.

Hidden away on Hythe's high street. Decor is nothing to write home about. BUT... this is probably the best Bangladeshi restaurant in Kent. Attentive, quick service. Almost all dishes can be 'personalised' for differing tastes. Tasty, complex flavours. Very good value for money. Highly recommended.

This has become our regular haunt since moving to Hythe 2 years ago. Always great food with the usual Indian fare.

Initial impressions Vinodhon are sadly negative as you have to walk through an uninviting outer entrance, then through a dated, bare hallway with incense burning in a corner. The bland inner door leading to the restaurant was closed - why? - and hardly welcoming. At this point we were not hopeful and wondered what we had let ourselves in for.

Our first visit for many years, glad to say good service and very good food. Nicely busy for a Friday night, doesn't try to be flashy,just your normal small town Indian restaurant. So 4 poppodums, 2 starters,2 mains,2 side dishes and pint and a half £43.

We ordered a takeaway at 6pm, told it would be 40 minutes. Phoned at 7pm, told he has just left, phone and 7:40, apparently he had just left. Hungry and frustrated.

Visited on a Saturday night. Very good service with excellent food, will definitely be visiting again or at least trying there takeaway service

Decided to try Vinodhon by ordering a takeaway. Byriani was a little bland but well cooked and everything else from the onion bhajis to the veg curry, veg marsala and peshwari naan was good. Will certainly try again.

I was taken here by a friend the other week for the buffet evening. I have to admit that it is a number of years since I last visited this resturant.I was vety surprised at the quality of the food. The service was good, the choice of menu, but most of all it tasted lovely. Certainly will go again.

In my recent tour to UK, I visited Vinodhon Tandoori for my urge to taste some Indian cuisine in UK. It took to my surprise that this resturant served me food thats better than what we get in India. We ordered Nan, chicken butter masala, chicken tikka and some sheek kebab. Everything was so delicious that, I felt like home in India. I would strongly everyone who like to have some delicious Indian food in UK, then this is place. If I am again visiting UK, I would surely taste the food once again at this place. Strongly recommend 'VINODHON'.

Had a broad selection of dishes all of which were tasty and colourful. Being an avid curry consumer I was pleasantly surprised thàt all of the dishes were of a high quality. The atmosphere was pleasant enough but could be more inviting

As we reside in Hythe this is one of the many restaurants that we regularly visit. The menu is vast and reasonable prices.If you love curries there is a large selection from mild to really really hot! Lovely side dishes to compliment your meal.The restaurant is spotlessly clean and staff are polite and very friendly.The portions are quite large and should you find that you cannot eat it all,a member of staff will tray it up for you to take it home if you want to. The restaurant also does a takeaway service and is free delivery within a 3 mile radius on meals over £20. Tuesday is Banquet night and you can choose from the menu for the princely sum of £12 pp.

My first visit to this excellent curry house, the food was fantastic and very tasty the service was exceptional and the price was very reasonable. We went with friends and we all enjoyed it so much that we looking to visit again soon. A+++

Visited twice in early December. Place was heaving both times, but the staff soon found us a table. Food also came promptly, helped on the second occasion by friendly advice to order quickly before a big group which had just arrived. The Tuesday night banquet is particularly good value, with a full choice of starter, main, side etc from the main menu.

We ate here on a Wednesday lunchtime and were the only diners. Friendly, helpful staff and a very nice menu. The food was very good and all three of us were happy with each of the dishes that we had ordered. Portions were generous, starters were a good size and the main courses contained plenty of meat and vegetables and were very well cooked. I asked for the leftovers for takeaway and they were happy to oblige. The décor is really bland. I stared at one long blank wall which really needed a picture or two to break it up. A bit tucked away off the high street and could do with an advertising board to catch passers by that don't realise the restaurant is there. Would be happy to return.

We visit this restaurant regularly and have always had decisions food. The staff are friendly and courteous. Have tried many other Indian restaurants but always return here.

As Tandoori restaurants go, this is pretty good with varied menu selection and good service. Not as expensive as some, but good value.

Best to go on Tuesday when they have a buffet menu to die for. You get three course waiter served so not really your usual buffet.

Spontaneous trip to hythe for a meal led us to find this hidden gem tucked away off of the high street. Food absolutely incredible probably the best curry we've both ever had. Excellent value for money just way too much food to eat it all. The waiter kindly boxed it up for us to take away at just a small additional cost of £1 for the containers.

My family love this restaurant and we have been frequent customers for many years now. Although we don't go as regularly as we used to it is still our favourite place. After several months of not visiting we decided to go for a meal on the bank holiday Monday. It was refreshing to see the new decor in the restaurant but there appeared to be a lack of staff to accommodate the busy restaurant. A couple beside us actually got up and left because they had been seated for such a long time without being given a menu. We also found that there was an extremely long wait for our food- over an hour which was unlike any time before. When we did receive our food the flavours were delicious but it was such a shame that the food was only luke warm to cold, not piping hot. We were all so disappointed but so hungry by this point we ate it anyway. This is the first bad experience I have had out of at least 25 trips here so Yes I would go back but would hope the standard was better on my next visit.

Came here with out recommendation, Found the website very useful which included full menu and directions. At first the restaurants appears a little small and dark but you soon adjust. When we visited there was a large party of people visiting and was expecting to have to wait longer then we was thinking. We was given more then enough time to make our decisions regarding our meals and was in no way rushed. Being 3 in our party we all ordered diffrent started, which we all agreed where more the satisfying on taste, not too much to fill you up but enough to enjoy. Considering the large party also visiting we did not have to wait very long for our mains to arrive. Once again more then satisfying on size and taste, we all tried each others and agreed that it's probably the best we have had. This was our first visit and shall not be our last without a doubt. The price was a little expensive in places but that's why it was such a treat and enjoyable, reflected in the experience. My only regret is not taking photos for your refrence. Very much recommend this restaurant.

I usually try to eat at this place when visiting family in Hythe. On this occasion we arrived not having pre-booked. they were absolutely rammed! We were' fitted in' to a pretty good table and many apologies that the service might be a bit slower than usual as they were very busy and had staff off. OK , we had to wait perhaps 10-15 mins for our popadoms but the service was excellent, the guys were literally running around, the food was as good as ever, a really nice evening.

I am writing this between running to the bathroom and putting my head in a bucket.... went here last night on a flip of a coin with my 2 friends, 2 of us had starters and they where ok, me and another friend had chicken Korma and someone else had biryani. My Korma was bland but had a funny kick to it and the chicken was hard as bullets but I won't swear to it but I found it slightly pink (might of been the lighting) my onion bhaji were warm and so was my rice, they had got my friends order wrong so brought out new plate of rice for them which is steaming hot. My friend that had the biryani said the rice was sour and tastes a litre weird, we didn't really think anything of it until we just thought... maybe we should stop eating this. They cleared the plates away and brought us the flannel for our hands, I opened mine and used it, as my friend selected one but nudged the basket by accident, an ANT came running out from underneath.... My friend that had the Korma has also been sick. I don't think I have to tell you that we won't be going back.

We have returned to this restaurant again and again for the last 3 or 4 years. Ever since we first tried it. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The food is probably the best we have had in an Indian restaurant and full of flavour. We would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We have been eating at the Vinodhon for nearly 20 years now - the standard has ALWAYS been high. The owners and staff always strive to offer the best - sometimes when they are busy it takes a little longer to get your food - but always worth waiting for. The recent refit makes for a comfortable experience with new carpets, decor, seating etc.The choice of Bangladeshi and Indian dishes is vast and the selection of beers and wines good. Tuesday banquet night is very popular and, due to the great value, very busy - so expect service to be a little slower than other nights - and also be aware that not all dishes are available on that night.Our advice is - give it a try - you won't be dissapointed

Had a lovely evening , table of 4 people. Service was good in a nice environment. We had various dishes between the 4 of us which were all to our satisfaction. Will be back soon . I would recommend this restaurant if you want a laid back enjoyable meal.

First visit here in a very long time and was not disappointed at all. I visited this restaurant on the off chance on a Tuesday night as all the other places in Hythe were empty and as we walked in it was nearly full, much to my surprise. The service was welcoming and prompt and they gave us all the time in the world to linger over selecting our fare and when we had finished they showed no signs of us wanting to leave even though we were the last to leave. The food was plentiful, very tasty and very well priced. The only small let down was the ambience, but then again we were not in there for the clean but sombre decor. Definitely will visit again.

The man who I delay with said he doesn't care about good service as he has enough customers all this after practically accusing my wife of lying and expecting us to eat a cold soggy meal I would not recommend this place to anybody!!!!!!

Called into here late Tuesday as we were in the area late and need somewhere openWe found a buffet offer for £10.99 for a starter, main , rice/bread and sideSeemed a good deal We ordered two Diet cokes plus our meals as we arrived a large group was leaving which left us alone in the restaurant this seemed to mean the heating was turned off making the restaurant uncomfortable cold very quickly Then the two smallest of Coke arrived full of ice and not much Diet Coke The starts arrived one chicken chat and one chicken puriBoth tasting the same bar the puri both overly spiced and very hot The mains arrived quickly but weren't much betterThe chicken tikka korma was bland and my chicken shashlak buna was more raw onion and green peppers than chickenAll in all a very poor meal and we won't be calling in this restaurant again

Atmosphere is slightly seedy. The food is better than that -- up to the standard of a decent curry house. But with Everest in one direction and Coppers in the other, the bar is set pretty high.

My wife and I booked a table to ensure we were able to get in on a Saturday night, we arrived fifteen minutes early and were shown to our table promptly. We were asked if we wanted poppadoms and drinks which arrived quickly too. This is when things took a rapid turn for the worse. We were not given menus until some twenty minutes later and only when I asked for them. Our order was taken about fifteen minutes later, we ordered starters and a large selection of main dishes. After waiting another thirty minutes I enquired where our order was and was this the usual standard of service? To be fair the manager was quick to react and apologised profusely. The starter arrived three minutes later and the mains within minutes of us finishing the starters. This shows that when they work together they can get it right but the evening had been spoilt. They were busy but it was not an excuse for such poor service. The food is amazing and I would recommend the food every time (maybe try a takeaway if you don't like waiting) so I will try one more time to see if the service is better. Just be aware the service is slow.

Hidden away on Hythe's high street, this modest Bangladeshi restaurant has a great reputation with locals for it's consistent, flavoursome foods. A great choice and excellent service too. Wine list a bit limited but that's about the only criticism.

We've just moved to the area from London and desperate to find an indian takeaway - this restaurant ticks all the boxes. We've ordered a number of times and every time its been faultless. I've ordered from the same indian in London for the past 34 years so happy to find Vinodhon!

My girlfriend and I visited the restaurant on banquet night (Tuesday), we have been before and enjoyed it. Today was no different in regards to the food. Starter was really nice, I had the lamb Tika puri and my girlfriend had the prawn puri. For main we went for something different I had the lamb jubilee and my girlfriend had the chicken Harrey murgh(?). All of these were brought out in a timely fashion, lamb wasn't quite as tender as u would expect but all flavours very nice. We also got a bottle of the red house wine which was probably a little bit overpriced for what it was. However generally all very good. However on banquet night u do get a 'banquet' and unfortunately we couldn't finish all our meals. I had left nearly all my lamb curry and a full coconut rice was also left. When the owner came over to take our plates away, we asked if it would be possible to take the curry and rice with us and his blunt response was 'we don't do that here' and just walked off. I was shocked, I'm not sure what 'they don't do here' but there is a big sign in the restaurant saying take away available. He didn't ask how our meal was, he was very rude indeed. I paid £40 for that meal, so I am not sure why I wasn't able to take home what I paid for. I know it sounds trivial for such a bad rating for this small matter, however they will just throw all that food away which is a terrible waste. If he had said 'sorry we don't offer that service here' or given a simple explanation I would have accepted, but he was preoccupied with another table and came across as extremely rude. It made us feel embarrassed we had even asked. Unfortunately I won't be going back, there are superior Indians in Hythe which I will Now take preference.

The food was fine, lots of choice and tasty, nothing special. Service was slow and at times a bit uncomfortable being asked by a waiter if you are a couple or friends while you are trying to pay the bill is a bit odd. Probably won't return

Went with my uncle Graham and wife Jean who live there and was most enjoyable meal. We had recently had curry's in New York and Brick Lane in London and the meal here was a lot more flavoursome and highly recommend that you visit this place.
