OK, so I'm a working-age Geordie that's lived in Walker (for my sins) before moving to SW England. Little did I expect to be eating Italian food, in an "older persons retirement community" down on Walker Road and do it all for under £35.00 (including wine for one) for two people. The bruchetta was well worth it, the tzatzki less so, but the seafood pasta rigatoni (although i swear that was penne) was loaded with muscles, prawns and calamari - yeah it was basic but two mains, two starters, a "side salad" (that with a piece of chicken or salmon could've been a main) + a glass of wine + two coffee's for <£35.00 incl. a tip . . . in 2019, even if down on Walker Road: It's canny hinny.

We went there today at 5.30pm with family. To be honest the person that answered the phone wasn't very keen as we had wanted book at 6 so I expected it to be packed however it was empty despite being advertised that it was open until 9. Now we know why. We were a massive inconvenience. There was one waiter which is fair enough as it was quite but we were disturbing his drinking time. When we got there we told him we had arrived and he pointed and said "Your tables over there". I felt it a little rude but hey no we all have bad days. He then planned the menus on the table and I asked what was gluten free "only pasta" he said and walked off to drink his beer. Very helpful since no starters were pasta. So I ordered a pasta dish with salad. My Mum ordered a calzone and it was obvious that for what ever reason this was a hassle as he gave a massive sigh and said that pizza is flat. My Mum pointed out it said any pizza came as a calzone and he sighed again and said ok. I would like to point out all the food was lovely. Really tasty and fresh. Our tables were cleaned with lots of banging inbetween sips of his pint and then we were left. He obviously was friends with the only other table there as he talked to them and laughed but everytime we tried to get his attention he sighed and stomped over. We called him over to ask for the desert menu (more sighs and stomping) the he came back and announced they only had cheese cake and profitterols. I asked if they had ice cream and he said they did. I wanted to point out that they had more than two desert options then but couldn't be bothered with the drama. We didn't order pudding. Not because of the limited choice. That is fair enough on a Sunday evening but you don't want to feel like a big inconvenience when your paying. No wonder they are empty. Honestly other places like Sambuccas are far superior. Not for the food but for the treatment. You want to feel welcome. I'm disgusted. What a shame as he wasn't the owner and is giving an awful unwelcoming impression. If your reading this and know it was you perhaps have a long hard think about your attitude? Perhaps you need some customer service training? And to the owner. This member of staff is ruining your business.

Been to villaggio a few times with colleagues but never written a review. Popped in with my youngest and hubby today (their first time) and ended up with the £6.95 special. Seriously it’s a Saturday and late afternoon I wasn’t expecting it to be on at that time it was a pleasant surprise. Food was lovely - garlic bread, pizzas and pasta were delicious in fact there was so much even the little one couldn’t face the ice cream for desert! £4.95 for a three course kids meal is a bargain and it was spot on. Service was really good. We will most defiantly be back.

They thoroughly enjoyed their meals also and kept asking when we are coming back. So much food for the money. Good deals and very, very good value. We shall be regulars.

Heard about this restaurant and happened to be driving past on a Sunday. Called in at 4.30 and although quiet, still had a nice atmosphere. The food was really nice, especially fish in salsa sauce. Everything cooked fresh. Waiter was more than attentive and the rest of staff really friendly. Prices so reasonable. Will be back very soon as heard the Sunday roast is very good too.

Visited a week or so before Christmas on a trip to Newcastle to see relatives. We had eaten here once before in the summer and had thought it was good enough to deserve a second visit. Unfortunately on this occasion the restaurant lacked atmosphere apart from a large group of pensioners we were the only other diners on a Saturday evening. The special menu was not available despite not saying this on the menu or the website. Instead we chose four pizzas from the main menu and a couple of garlic breads. Starters were fine but the pizzas were awful. We ordered four different pizzas, however they all came covered in a rich orange cheese which was not mozzarella the usual cheese of choice for a pizza. We left nearly all of our main course, no one bothered to ask if our food was okay or enquired when asking for the bill. Service was a bit hit and miss, the young girl was pleasant but the young male waiter was a bit of a misery. The restaurant itself has a rather odd atmosphere,it feels a little like sitting in a coffee shop in a deserted shopping centre! We will not be returning as it is not really our type of place!

We visited here tonight, about our fourth visit. Consistently good food and service. Very reasonably priced and generous portions. A good vibe and atmosphere! Mario the owner has a resume second to none in the Italian restaurant world. He had Mario's in Pudding Chare back in the day (might have even had the lead on the Godfather, Paul Gasgoines alleged favourite at the time....he obviously never experienced Mario's top food) Mille Grazie.

We visited here for the first time today. The restaurant is in a new development and is clean bright and airy. Our waitress was cheerful, welcoming and efficient. The menu offers good value food, the drinks are fairly priced and the portions generous. We had whitebait and mozzarella as starters followed by a goats cheese pizza and chicken with rigatoni. Both dishes were freshly cooked to order, the service was quick and attentive. We will be back in a few weeks time. It is worth visiting this pleasant restaurant and we are happy to recommend Villaggio to others looking for good value and decent food in this part of town.

We went to Villaggio last Sunday for lunch. After being shown to our seats we sat & waited for someone to bring us menus & take our drinks order - no one did so after 20 minutes I had to get out of my seat & find a waitress. After finally receiving menus & drinks we waited another 20mins for someone to take our order & don't get me started on how long ot took for our food to actually arrive! We were in the resturant for 2 & a half hours in total which, if the food had of been lovely, wouldn't be a problem but unfortunately it was very mediocre. Starters were ok but the sunday lunch was not the best! It had clearly been microwaved, parts were boiling hot & other parts freezing cold. We didn't stick around for dessert otherwise we might still have been there today!!

Wasn't nice at a came in at 3 was told the Sunday lunch wasn't available. The chef offered to do the choice of meat and Yorkshire pudding with gravy. After sitting a number minutes at a empty restaurant the staff finally came took the order. Staff is very uninterested and takes alot to catch there attention. Starter of garlic mushrooms very poor oily and raw garlic. The pizza was just ok. The roast beef main was possible the worst meal I ever had. Was 2 slices of chewy beef and chips with a Yorkshire pudding had mountain of gravy on it so as u can imagine my already sad limp oil soaked chips we're unedible plate was pushed to one side. No one came to check meal. When they came.to collect the plates I had said the meal was very poor and u could see I barely touched it. "Sorry we had nothing left" that's the response I got had to get up to pay my bill as the staff were again not to bothered at doing any kind of service. Had the pizza boxed up here where this led to me even leaving a review there was a peice of used chewing gum on the bottom of the pizza box I discovered while en route home. Lots of better italians around. Very poor service and food was worse.

Since its recent opening, my husband and I have been here a number of times for a meal. Though we have taken our meals at various times through the day, and the staff have varied because of shift changes, our meals have always been very good, and the service excellent.
