Stopped here for tea and cakes with friends after a walk (2019). The tea was lovely and the cakes were delicious.. They didn’t even mind our boots were a bit muddy, she just swept up after we left. More recently been there for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and they were most helpful.

have been to this cafe a couple of times now. The staff are always welcoming and happy. Lots of yummy cakes to choose from and although the menus not massive it has a good selection. The staff are happy to amend dishes to your personal taste, great for picky eaters like my son. Will definitely become a regular.

The VPP used to be a great local place for tea and lunch. Living just a 10min walk away, I'd often drop in. The service was most personable, and the eats consistently tasty. However, over the last half a dozen visits, I've noticed the food has been getting a bit 'discount supermarket', and the staff seem far less than welcoming, one in particular, who was even a bit obstructive and surly. I dropped in last week, the food has hit rock bottom, and the staff behaving as if the patrons owed them a living. . . I'll never visit again. The pub over the road has just had a refit, and a new owner, I think I'll try it for lunch next week.

Always good coffee and cakes here, and always tolerant of our coming in muddy after a run. Lots of gluten free cakes, soya milk for those who don't do dairy. No vegan cakes, but when I asked about this today they said to bring in any good recipes I had and they would try them out - great response which I've never had anywhere else. I will take in my vegan chocolate cake recipe. (Never fails to impress non-vegans!)

I must have been to this café dozens of times now, both with cyclists and walkers. The coffee and snacks are usually good or very good, it's nicely set out and reasonably priced. But the welcome has always been variable and the last time we went, it hit rock bottom. It was clear that we weren't wanted. It was a filthy day and we arrived wet, but we were careful not to leave a mess. One way or another, we've visited nearly 50 cafes in the surrounding area and have never been treated quite like we were at the Village Paint Pot last time.

Very sweet little café, using local suppliers. Its nice to see independent cafés supporting other local businesses. Using local meats, breads and coffee, you really are getting a taste of Yorkshire. The smell in the morning is gorgeous from all the freshly baked cakes. The staff are very sweet and accommodating, I will be back for a gingerbread latte and a slice of lemon drizzle.

Firstly and fore mostly this review is an honest account in our opinion. We have frequented this establishment on many occasions, as we think it is the best in the area, the staff are very friendly & efficient, this account no way reflects upon them in anyway. On our last visit we decided to have lunch, we elected to go with the cheese & tomato quiche as that was the only choice on the day. Firstly we noticed the portions were much smaller than what we had experienced in the past, the quality of the quiche was very poor, the base of which just crumbled in to powder as soon as you put your fork into it, also the cheese and tomato was very claggy, not sure about the salad seem to think it came with a few crisps and grapes, but could be mistaken. We both had cake, mine was as good as usual & portion size same as normal, but my wife’s carrot cake portion was half the size, compared to the past. The coffee great as always. We shall definitely be returning, hopefully things will be as they were when we first started using this lovely establishment.

Came one morning for brunch and was shocked at the cleanliness of the cafe area. The table we sat at was disgusting I don't know when it had last been washed. The staff member on shift didn't even returning a greeting on our way in and we actually left before we'd even ordered we were that un-impressed.

Poor, cold, cloudy, bitter coffee. I was going to let it pass with just a comment of "it not that nice but thanks for asking" until the girl serving said, "Well next time don't come here for coffee" I was shocked, It's a coffee shop why else would I go!!!I would have paid had I not received, what I would consider, a very rude comment. I left my name and phone number should they wish to follow up my actions but a week later... nothing. I will not go again, even if it was free...... or they paid me!Although the young girl was charming and polite, at all times, there was no sense of urgency to serve people quickly. When I was served my Tea the cup was placed on the table with the waitresses thumb deep into the cup. Not very nice. I was told the tea leaves were very fine and may not be stopped by the strainer... Really!! That's because it's the last nasty bit of the bag!

Visited this cafe various times as it is nearby and has never disappointed. They offer a wide change of coffees, teas, cakes & sandwiches which are fairly cheap but great quality. They also sell chalk paint in just about any colour - no surprise there as it's the theme of the cafe! Really nice interior with friendly staff and the food didn't take too long to come either. I fully recommend this cafe to anyone who is in Elloughton or looking for a place to have a Coffee or a bite.

Me and my sister walked up to the café, and it screamed for us to go in. The décor is out of this world. They focus on a shabby chic interior - with just about everything! We sat down and read the menus, and a young waitress shortly came to take our order. She was very patient considering we couldn't decide what we wanted! It was very quiet, so it didn't take long to come. I have been to this café numerous times, and it always has served me great quality food & Drink - at an average price - coffee from 2.00, cake 2.00, sandwiches 3.50 etc.My only criticism is that they do not offer a cooked breakfast - which is unusual for a café these days, I think they should launch their new breakfast and let everyone know about it, and look at extending their property to avoid overcrowding, especially during lunchtime. This café also offers chair painting courses and a knitting club, and stocks most Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - if you're interested in that sort of thing!Overall, a great café which I strongly recommend.Open Mon - Sat 8-5, Sun 10-4

Second visit to this cafe. First as eat in second time just to pick up a couple of sandwiches. On both occasions service was just too slow. Whether meeting for a chat or stopping for a bite to eat being made to wait unacceptable periods is unbusinesslike. Quality of sandwiches variable, good bread, but thick slices of cucumber and tomato a bit rustic for me.

Situated close to the main crossroads in Elloughton village, parking can be a bit problematic but if you are prepared to walk a hundred yards its well worth the effort. Offering a range of coffees/Teas and shakes together with home-made cakes and tasty snack (Hot & Cold). This little cafe really is an oasis of calm in an ever hectic world where you can ground yourself and catch up on the local news/activities. Well worth a visit just to chill with a quiet drink and a snack.

Yes the Village Paint pot is Lovely inside, however the food used sometimes can be off and the service can be slow. the staff are lovely but the owner often sits in and watches, makes me feel very unwelcome. the staff that are young are left on a night and morning to open up, cash up, lock up and also clean from as young as 16. this is very unprofessional and dangerous. they are paid their minimum wage for a managers role. The food is lovely and the cakes are almost always fresh. lovely place shame about the management.

Popped in to purchase some paint and decided to stay for lunch. We had toasties, they were made fresh and were tasty with plenty of filling. My friend had a coffee and I had a hot chocolate, which was really really nice! We followed with a piece of coffee and walnut cake each which was delicious! One member of staff was very helpful and pro active, the other two's customer service skills could be better perhaps they need to be clearer on whether the cafe is waitress service or order at the till, we had to do a bit if both and it wasn't very clear. A fairly good first experience.

I made the mistake of thinking this was a paint shop. I went in to buy some Annie Sloan paint and was asked to wait until the young girl had finished serving the café customers. Annie Sloan paint is very popular at the moment so maybe they should consider having one person allocated to just selling the paint upstairs. If they are too busy to serve me the next time I go in, I will definitely order online. Shame really because I like to use local small businesses.

This relatively new coffee shop in Elloughton is a nice edition to the village and reverses the decline of shops on Main Street. However, there are a few issues that it needs to sort out before it can be a main contender on the local cafe scene. The coffee itself needs improving, with a flat white being just a little too flat, but the selection of cakes is good. The seating area also needs to be improved too as the entire area is an L shape which means that getting good spots in the cafe is limited, but the breakfast bar seating area near the window is convenient if you just want a quick drink. Apart from missing an upstairs seating area the cafe needs to address the idea of painting furniture as this seems a bit of an unusual selling point for nurturing creative talent. However, seems that this cafe has just started up and is run by a small number of people I am sure that they will be extremely receptive to any improvements you want to suggest. Worth a visit nonetheless.

We won't eat there again so we don't recommend it also I don't like the idea of food being served in or near the same area where there are painting classes are going on and are selling paint it's supposed to be a cafe not a paint shop

We had lunch at The Potting Shed with family. This was a return visit, and we think it’s the best garden centre restaurant in the area. Soup was carrot and coriander (delicious, could’ve eaten more!), sandwiches were very fresh, and the haddock and chips were delicious. Restaurant is very clean and well laid out, tables not too close together. I’m sure we’ll be back!
