Started well, nice starters. Main course (booked at 5:30) they didn’t have 2 of the main Sunday meats, beef wellington, or a starter. We ere very disappointed considering we booked early in the night. I asked for two pints one delivered and 2nd one I had to remind the waitress and then it was spilt on the table- didn’t clean it up either. Asked for it to be cleaned and spent the whole meal with a sticky table. Then the cheek of a surcharge and had to ask for it to be removed twice. Wont be returning. This was my second not very good meal here.

Visited here on 8.10.24 with family. There was 8 of us. The table and seating was a bit cramped for 8 of us but we managed. There was only one vegetarian option on the menu. It was a cauliflower steak. This was quite bland and flavourless and could have done with some sauce and something to add a bit of colour, it was all very brown. Everyone loved the pies but one of our party said that their chips tasted frozen rather than triple cooked. Dessert I ordered the crumble and custard. The crumble topping was very hard and the custard was more like a runny hot cream. There was no selection of alcohol free normal cider. It was exceptionally hot and that made it quite uncomfortable. All in all it was ok but I thought the menu overpriced, as this was my first visit to this pub, there was nothing that would make me want to rush back. The car park is also extremely small and if you are trying to get out while someone is trying to come in , it is very tricky.

Myself and family were disappointed with our meal after previously coming a while ago having had a fabulous meal. However on our most recent visit we were disappointed to be sat in the bar area after having requested the restaurant. The bar area was extremely busy and we were sat next to the door. Myself and my husband were disappointed with the food as was not up to scratch. Although we didn’t have to long to wait, two family’s close to us had to wait an 1.5 hours for their food.

Visited for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Our booking was for 1700 which meant that our choice of a Sunday lunch was restricted due to the obvious popularity of the restaurant and diners having ate all the beef and lamb choices. My choice of steak pie with all the trimmings was excellent and the rest of my party were all satisfied with what they were served with. The restaurant was extremely busy and the staff worked hard to keep the diners happy. A mixture of family groups both with and without children in attendance meant there was a lively atmosphere all the time we were there. Will visit again.

Went for a family Sunday lunch. There were no vegetarian Sunday dinner options listed so I gave them a call before and they said they do offer one, they said yes as I and can swap out the beef dripping potato’s and gravy, so I was happy. I will eat any vege option, I just didn’t want meat. On arrival we were greeted and seated and drinks orders taken. Nice, friendly welcome. Drinks arrived promptly. Good selection of ales and beers. Then things got a little tricky. I asked for the Sunday dinner but said can I have cauliflower cheese instead of chicken and the veggie potato’s / gravy. The waitress said she would have to check. She came back and said they can’t do that but they can do a “ veggie roast “. So I assumed that’s just veg and ordered a side of cauliflower cheese. When it came the main also had cauliflower cheese, which I was initially told I couldn’t have as a main. The whole thing was a bit baffling, why not mention you were already giving me cauliflower cheese on the main or just write on the menu a clear veggie option. I’m not a fussy eater, I just wanted some kind of vegetarian Sunday roast. Obviously I was also at fault as I could have said list the contents of the roast but she had already been to check once and I had rang before coming so I felt bad putting her on the spot. Most other local pubs just have a vegetarian option and it’s no big deal so I don’t think we would go again, which is a shame as everything else was good. Just a bit awkward and an additional £5 on a dish I didn’t really need. Other family members nearly finished it off, but 2 portions of cauliflower cheese is not really needed. If they change the menu, I would give them a try again, eg a clear veggie pastry or pie for example and vegetables, but wouldn’t return until they do.

Food only. We have visited this establishment for food several times over the last 2 years. 2 years ago I would review as excellent, however, now average I am afraid. Chicken Kiev used to be excellent with plenty of garlic sauce when you cut into it. Now its very dry. I think the chef must have changed over the last 12 months .

FOOD ONLY - I have to be brutally honest as this was such a disappointment. We have been here a handful of times, first time around 2 years ago, it was brilliant and every time since it has seem to get worse and worse. Safe to say this was the last chance we gave it and won’t be going back. To start with, we were given a seat by the bar and the booth seat was absolutely filthy in food and mucky marks My husband actually stopped from sitting down and waited for someone to clean it. We also went with our baby and we asked for a highchair that was absolutely filthy. We cleaned ourselves with baby wipes and the state of the baby wipes was shocking. Safe to say, I didn’t put her in it and had her on my knee, the whole meal. The vegetarian selection was absolutely Horrendous. We asked for a vegetarian Sunday dinner and the substitute for the meat was cauliflower cheese. But we couldn’t have the roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, or gravy. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. My husband got the tuna steak, Maybe this is to our own preference but it came raw and my husband was quite shocked with that as it wasn’t written on the menu it would be served like that; In addition, he said it was absolutely flavourless. We had a couple of sides with this such as cauliflower cheese and chips which both came out medium/cold. I feel the menu is totally off, it is very expensive for what you get. On a plus the Staff Were extremely kind and friendly. However, There were plenty of staff on and seemed to be standing around near our table with the restaurant not being very busy. I never leave reviews and hate to leave these sort of ones if I ever do leave a review. However I hope this reaches the right person to be able to improve on these issues, as I will never forget the first time we went and had a lovely meal. Now I honestly wish I had gone to Mac Donald’s and had something from the drive thru at a fraction of the cost.

As a couple with two dogs, we booked a last minute overnight stay over the phone and we were not disappointed. On arrival a pleasant chap checked us in and showed us where we would be sitting for our dinner reservation. We mentioned again that we had two dogs and he said they could stay in the room (this was a bonus as one of our dogs is a big clumsy handful). The room had everything we needed with a good shower, nice pillows and tea and coffee facilities. They even provide use of a percolator for the fresh ground coffee sachets, and also take-away coffee cups (nice touch). The food was delicious, we had camembert sharer for starters and burgers for mains. A memorable stay for us for our 10 year anniversary together and also after 4 nights camping, so the luxury was very welcome. The staff are efficient and pleasant. We would definitely return.

The food has always been somewhere between ‘its amazing’ and ‘let’s not eat here again’. Unfortunately it’s not great at the moment. Prices are up but quality is down for what should be fairly basic, like make sure it’s hot. We were tempted by steak but at £64/couple decided to test out snacks and sides after a string of average meals and glad we did as they were just disappointing. It’s a lovely pub to drink in. The staff are usually friendly, recently lots of new faces and wonder if this extends to the kitchen and some inexperience, but you can’t charge Star in Sancton prices and serve service station quality.

An update 14/03/24. Called in this evening to share a few pints with friends. Pub and restaurant were moderately busy. We saw food being served in the bar which looked really good. We decided to sample the "own label" ale of the F&C. I believe it is actually rebranded Sleck dust. It was a good pint and at £3.50 all three of us stayed with this choice for the evening. The pub was warm, comfortable and welcoming. ---- A cold winter's day, warming fire, good pint of ale, good food. Can't be beaten. Called in for lunch, sat by the fire. I had home made fish finger sandwich with the freshest white crusty bread. My wife had garlic mushrooms on toasted sourdough. Both excellent. Really good ale. Memorable!

We went to the Fox And Coney for lunch yesterday. On arrival we found that the booking had been mixed up and instead of seating us in the library where we could take our dogs, we were seated in the main restaurant. Given it had been made clear on booking that we had dogs, this was not a good start. A very nice group who were seated in the library, with no dogs, kindly agreed to change places. Otherwise we would have left. The staff were helpful, pleasant and efficient but the food was not good. After waiting over 40 minutes for our main courses we were mostly disappointed with the quality of food. Three of us had roast beef which was very tough and we could hardly cut it, although the rest of the plate was tasty. One had a tasteless bacon chop with an overdone fried egg, and burnt black pudding and potato hash, the steak pie was poor quality and dry. We will not be going back.

We booked here for a lunch with family who rarely get to see each other as they live some distance away. We were seated in the "library" as we had a dog with us and told this meant we had to order food and drinks at the bar. We had to sit on two tables (there were five of us) as the chairs do not fit under the tables. Three of us ordered the sweet potato and lentil cottage pie, one, the cheese burger and the other, the salmon. After a wait of 40 minutes our food arrived (no apology for the delay). The cottage pies were akin to baby food with pureed sweet potato on top of a tomato and lentil mush with the occasional bean, slice of courgette and carrot. All three of us thought it was disappointing. The verdict on the burger was that it was underwhelming abs so what on the small side. The salmon appeared to be fine as it was all eaten up. We were never asked if the meal was okay and had to go in search of dessert menus. We decided not to bother. We have eaten here before and had a lovely meal. So, maybe it was an off day. But hugely, dissappointing.

With a square of stuffing that had seen better days 😔 A few sprouts and cabbage thrown on the plate. I like a crispy roast spud as much as anyone else but when there’s no actual potato inside as they are so overcooked even I am going to be unhappy, these were truly awful. The food bill was £60 which in a cost of living crisis is not cheap! & in my opinion the food was not worth that price . I went to order a desert after we had finished eating & was told there was a wait of 30 minutes for 1 crumble & custard 🤷🏽‍♀️ that kinda made the decision for me re whether we would be returning, having said that the staff were friendly & made a fuss of our 19 week old puppy 🐶

The service was a highlight. Esme is bright and cheerful. When she brought my food she wasn't satisfied with my table and came back to clean it. To care like this when she was evidently so busy is outstanding. She is perfectly suited to a job in hospitality, and an asset to the business. My bill did not include a service charge, as another reviewer has complained about, but I would have happily paid it. A good experience, made excellent by a standout member of staff.

My wife and I had a sleepover and supper at the Fox & Coney last week. It was a terrific experience. The staff were kind and helpful and - importantly - they were dog lovers! We were assigned to a lovely bedroom with a copper bathtub in the room. Supper in the bar, with our dogs, was delicious: hearty fare in generous portions. A highly recommended hospitality venue …

Firstly let me say the food was amazing, maple bacon cheese burger, fish pie and blade of beef, all beautiful, pricey but was worth paying for the quality. Service staff were young but very polite and friendly, not a bad word to say about them. The lady that took our booking and greeted us when we arrived was very rude and short with us except when asking if out food was alright. As a family we all felt very unwelcome and put out, were considering leaving without ordering but we had driven to get here and found the pub very charming and inviting. When leaving we thanked the same lady and she basically ignored us. Maybe we're not the usual clientèle they get in here as we're a working class family but customer service is something I pride myself on and isn't hard, to smile and make someone feel welcome is a basic necessity when in a customer facing role. Would come again for the food but would leave if treat the same way again. Some pictures of the food and one of our cat to make up for the bad feels

This normally excellent restaurant really let me down today for Sunday lunch. The roast potatoes were awful. Been sitting in a heater for several hours. So chewy they were inedible. At £17 I would have expected better. Put me off returning.

Wow popped in today with a friend for a light lunch and we were both very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. It was delicious! I had salt and pepper chicken with a side of chips and it was the best salt and pepper chicken I have ever had!! And I am one fussy food eater! The chap who brought the food to our table was friendly, polite and professional. Thank you for a wonderful visit!

Good value, wide drinks selection. You know what you'll get at a Spoons - not fine dining but not bad either. Quite busy at times, sometimes a wait at the bar (so get the app) and tables could be cleared faster. Looking its age a bit and could do with a refurbishment. However nice place. Good to see that the menu has been updated.

We come here as a family quite a lot as it is local to us. Whilst the food is always consistently nice, it’s never outstanding. It’s pub grub done well. The last two times we have been, we have taken our dog too, which is great for us as they have the Tap Room which accepts dogs. On both occasions the room was cold, so much so, I had to leave my coat on. Also on both occasions the music being played into the room, as what I imagine is supposed to be quiet “background music” has been too loud, and in my opinion, inappropriate for a relaxing Sunday lunch. A mix of loudly played Radiohead, The Darkness, U2 and Blur is maybe a bit “heavy” to have as background music. For those wondering, I do actually like those bands, but it didn’t create a very “chilled”, “relaxing” or “background music” atmosphere.
