I discovered this wonderful little café last week. It is warm, friendly and welcoming. The food that I ordered - steak pie, chips and beans, cherry pie served with ice cream, two cups of excellent tea, and change from ten pounds - was hot, freshly cooked, and very nice indeed. All in all, excellent value, I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Firstly be under no illusion this is a proper no frills cafe. It’s popular owing to its location and value for money. 3 meals and 3 drinks came in at just over £16. I had the mushroom omelette and chips which was nice enough. The tea tasted of tea and the staff are polite. My only issue was that as one of the staff came towards our table with the last of our 3 meals they were met by another who in the melee managed to drop some of the chips onto the floor as the plate was passed between them . An apology was given but no attempt to replace the chips which fell to their end on the carpet was made at anytime. In fact a comment was made that were only 4 of them ! All a bit short on chips and all very tired. Having read a recent review about hygiene I’m not sure I’d now go back. Sounds like the hygiene award on the door is a little misleading and overall it’s all a bit tired. That said on this occasion ( my 2nd ever visit) the food was ok so I’m Minded to rate it as average overall.

Visited here yesterday as it looked nice and was fairly quiet so had tables available, sat down ordered drinks and food. Was sat where i could see the kitchen well i was utterly disgusted by what i see, the male chef picked up RAW bacon and then without washing his hands continued to pick up the other breakfast items as well as other customers food including toast and tea cakes which he buttered. I cancelled my order straight away and explained why but they didnt seem to care, the person i was with decided to still have their food but in all that time of being there which was around 30 mins he never washed his hands once. Would stongly advise not going here if you care about basic hygeine

Ordered Roast Lamb, food was hit and well presented, could have been a bit bigger portion size, but for the price I was happy. Then had Apple Pie and Ice Cream with a cup of tea. My partner and I moved to Ramsgate two years ago and wanted a regular place to eat breakfast, when we saw the name of the cafe it felt well astablished, inviting , warm. The owners smiled and greeted us as if we had been customers for years and asked with out delay what we would like. If we wanted to swap tomato for mushrooms it was done without fuss and waiting times were minimal.Value for money is amazing at the village grill, and they don't cut on quality as a result. The bacon has a grilled finish and the food and plate always is hot and stays hot as we eat. The coffee reminds me of what a real latte should be. Milky piping hot and in a deep mug, amazing for a winter day or pick me up in the summer. The owners are simply charming always a smile on their face and a friendly " ho hi welcome back, how you been"?They have a honest interest with their patrons making their customer service so amazing as a result, when we go to the village grill we are made to feel as friends not just customers. We now eat there 3-4 a week because of this and love it there Hungry ... try the village grill :)Thank you

If you are discerning enough to use TripAdvisor you are probably sensible enough to have avoided the Village Grill on Harbour Street in Ramsgate! My third and LAST visit there today went badly to say the least. I certainly did not expect to be joined without introduction or request by one of the regulars who made it clear by his demeanour that we were gate crashing his table. The owner`s comment when hearing from another customer, was something like `Oh,you can`t please everyone`- clearly her mantra and one which will ensure she continues to keep her standards low. Having moved table, ate my less than lovely breakfast, I was keen to pay up and get out. The last thing I needed was the owner to try and pull me further regarding my response to her question about how my food was when I answered with a shrug `it was ok`. ... Cornered with a response clearly required, I commented that moving tables half way through my breakfast had not helped. At which point she became very defensive claiming in a hurt and unprofessional manner `I didn't ask you to move tables-....Indeed she did not. But move tables I will, as there are plenty of brilliant breakfast outlets in Ramsgate:The Ship Shape, Belgian café and the Ramsgate cafés all offer great food, sensible management and to date I haven't met any rude customers!. Possibly the regulars who use the Village café are not so discerning....

I have read some of the reviews for this cafe. All I can say is either they were in a different cafe than us or they are lying. My wife and I have been here a lot. The drinks are lovely. Of course the meals are served separate, if they were served at the same time, the first ones would be cold, then you would have something to complain about and there isn't that long to wait between them. All the staff are polite and very helpful. Yes, sometimes the table is dirty, but they always say sorry and soon clean it. All the food is well cooked and there is plenty of it. Some of the customers were quite specific about the amount of milk, or infusion of a tea bag they required, but this is no trouble here. You can upgrade to a full lunch such as shepherds pie, vegetables, and a sweet such as fruit salad and cream or ice cream. Negatives are that the carrots are a bit chewy, and the tables for doubles are a bit cramped, so you may nudge another diner or the wall. Friendly service and most are regulars. They have outlived McDonalds which is now a haberdashers!

I had a frothy and pleasant coffee for 90p and tea is 55p a cup - BARGAIN!!! My all day breakfast was quickly served and well-cooked. The tomatoes were fresh and the sausages had meat in them and the plate was filled - there was no scrimping with the amount given. It maybe time for a new carpet and a lick of paint on the walls if only to colour co-ordinate the interior, but that aside this comes recommended.

While visiting my Brother, who lives in Ramsgate, we went there on his recommendation. We were certainly not disappointed. My husband, brother and his friend had liver and bacon, I had Prawn jacket potato, they all loved their liver, and my jacket potato was full of king prawns and sauce, the potato had butter put on it before the filling (something most places do not do, leaving the potato dry), it was delicious, and very good value for money. We will definitely be going there again on our next holiday to Ramsgate

Fell into this today, what a wonderful place, perhaps one of the most honest places I have been too in a long time. It is what the menu describes a lovely place for brunch or lunch. It's too easy to bunch this type of place into the British cafe category but it's much more than that. Lovely collection of odd sized tables, lots of more senior diners tucking into good old English grub. We had steak pie, chips and peas, and it was a delight. Not the best pie we have ever eaten and not the best chips we have ever eaten but definitely the most honest food we have eaten in a long time. Will visit time and time again. A real gem of a place and priced to please anyone. Lunch for two with bread and butter and mugs of tea each for £9.00. A delight. Staff very friendly and helpful, smiling faces from front of house staff and interesting customers to overheat and chat to. This place,is the TRUTH.

This centrally placed café is certainly ultra friendly. If any future reviewer says "avoid" I would ask how come they have 50 Christmas cards from customers? I had the shepherds pie with roast, 3 veg and even a Yorkshire so my plate was full. Looked home cooked. The sweet I had was pineapple melba, but do not expect an elaborate confection with a teddy bear wafer - this is just ice cream scoops and pineapple rings. The bill with soft drink came to £7.05 so would suit Thanet pockets. A choice of grills, breakfasts , fish and chips and daily specials on the board outside made up the menu. An unpretentious place with waxed tablecloths and my title comes from the name of the Ceramics painting studio directly above. The boss said she has dozens of close and more distant relations but most were not there at the time, except an uncle!

Went for lunch with a friend Have been here before for tea and cake Sat at a table in the sun decided to move when one with a sun shade became free as I got up my brand new trousers caught on 2 prices of the plastic wicker chair that had come losses and were sticking out. I hadn't noticed this when sitting down as I couldn't pull the chair out fully due to lack of space. My trousers were damaged. I informed the waiter who just said sorry, and he would remove the chair. This wasn't done until as we left, I told another member of staff. If I had had bare legs, I would have had a nasty cut. We ordered jacket potato with chilie and salad. Which was quite nice . However my friends coffee was cold. Informed the same male member of staff who said the machine was playing up he took the cup and returned the same half drunk coffee to the table it had obviously just been put in the microwave. Sadly, I now have a damaged pair of trousers that I will have to pay to be mended, and we were not even given a full cup Of fresh coffee. Needless to say, we won't be returning.

Watery ice cream - yuck. Unfortunately I think the proprietors forgot to add the ice cream powder to the liquid today. Within 30seconds of having the cones the “ice cream” was melting and it was very watery tasting. It is advertised as Jersey ice cream which surely means it should be creamy?
