Villa Roma in West Berkshire

Visiting for the weekend, found this little gem and we weren’t disappointed. Delicious food, attentive and friendly service and a wonderful cosy atmosphere

I was recommended to come here by a friend whilst I was away on business alone. I’m the biggest foodie and love travelling Italy and can honestly say this little place impressed me. It’s nice and small, lovely staff. I had the bruschetta, carbonara and banoffee pie which was all so delicious, so fresh and tasty. I will definitely be coming here again.

What lovely little restaurant with great service and amazing food me and misses has been twice in a week food is so delicious. Would highly recommend this lovely little restaurant.

I have been visiting this restaurant since it’s beginnings - whether sitting in or takeaway. Unfortunately the meal I received was certainly not what I have been used to having and it’s not what is advertised on the online menu. A Pollo Milanese with no white wine sauce !! Then served with a spaghetti side!!! When I rang I was told the menu had changed because the sauce made the chicken soggy - serve it separately because all you have otherwise is a dry piece of flat chicken. You have certainly lost a customer.

Myself and four friends visited Villa Roma on Saturday, we were not disappointed! The service and food were great and we had a lovely evening - thank you.

We ordered a Villa Roma take away. It was delivered on time and was excellent value for money. The portions were very generous and the pasta was really well cooked, the sauce was exactly the right consistency !!!

I can’t put into words how much I love their food. Authentic, delicious and so so so tasty. Me and 2 close friends order here frequently and it knocks it out of the park every time. Recommend all the seafood pastas, the bruschetta and classic pizzas.

Still open during lockdown... Placed our order to collect, the food was delicious! Hot and plenty of it. All freshly cooked, we will be ordering from here again.

Always the best they do take away and give a 10% discount the bruschetta is also great and the prices are acceptable for a takeaway but they get very busy so will have to book if you’re eating in

Pizza is delicious - super fresh and tastes like a proper Italian pizza (not like dominos, papa johns etc)! The staff were helpful on the phone and delivered sooner than they originally said.

Great food, surprising place, bring you own drink, reasonable prices. Friendly staff, clean and with the kitchen open, you can see your food being prepared.

Stodgy spaghetti, over cooked. However it has a nice ambience and our waiter was good. Like most of the limited choice you have for restaurants in Crowthorne overpriced food and average. It was and is usual busy, but with a limited choice of resteraunts and opening hours, not a lot to choose from.

Had really lovely breakfast here. Have also had their pizzas which are also great. You might want to book if you definitely want a table

Another lovely meal from Villa Roma. We are so lucky to have this restaurant in our village. The portions are huge and quality excellent.

Tiny restaurant that's easy to miss with space for only just over 20 people inside, plus more outside in warmer weather, but the food is outstanding, MUCH better than the pseudo-Italian high street chains, with a wide choice and generous portions. No liquor licence, so take your own and pay a small corkage charge but still save a lot compared to the usual expensive restaurant drinks prices. A hidden gem.

We go here frequently for breakfast, lunch, dinners and even take aways. The seafood pasta transport me immediately to Rome. All food is wonderful and the Chef/owner is clearly passionate about his food. Keep it up please, we love you! Oo and the coffee is delicious!

Needed something substantial and quick for lunch. I had a Florentina Pizza and Ali had Fettucine with chicken, ham and broccoli in a creamy garlic sauce. Both meals were delicious. We will definitely be back.

Look beyond the humble cafe appearance and you will find a great selection of Italian food served fresh at great prices. Service is friendly snd effecient and the quality of food is very good. Well worth a visit

We had a fantastic experience with Villa Roma. From the ease of placing the order to the warm welcome we received when collecting it and then topped off by the most delicious meals that were so tasty. The portion sizes are so generous and reasonably priced. I can’t recommend Villa Roma enough and am already looking forward to ordering from here again. Thank you so much.

On balance, it's more of a take-away pizza outlet, but it also has several wooden tables and chairs. There are no tablecloths or romantic candles, but it's perfectly friendly, and popular with families. I'm vegan so the only choice was penne arrabbiata, but it was absolutely delicious: perfectly cooked pasta, with high quality olive oil and chilli ... right up there with the best I've ever tasted in expensive Italian restaurants. Also, if you prefer pizza, they're happy to make it to order (eg, without cheese, for vegans). So, highly recommended.

Very poorly run cafe, not a restaurant. We set off to have breakfast, we sat down no one welcomed us or gave us menus, had to go to counter and get my own. No menu for hot beverages and when I asked for a coffee they said what do you want, when I asked do you have a list of coffees you make, No just tell us what you want...charming!! I asked for a white coffee and received hot milk only, customers next to us had not received their food and there was only three couples in the cafe. They spoke very poor English and were very upset when I sent my coffee back, no customer service, no politeness, I will not be returning.

This restaurant is so good the food is wonderful also gluten free the sauces are great and very reasonable worth a visit

Great food, I had a starter and a main, both excellent and pretty good value, starter of salad was perfectly produced and really quite tasty. Main again was pretty good, if anything slightly too much. Slight downside, no alcohol licence, you need to take your own.

Great little place to eat! I have now given up on other Italinan places in Thatcham and Newbury. As these are costly and bad.... this place is fab, small and they cook tasty Italian food.

Brilliant food, best garlic bread I have ever had! Really reasonably priced with huge portions! And you can tell it’s all fresh with high quality products, perfect for take away or eat in

So far we have enjoyed 2 takeaway meals in the evening which have been excellent, lovely food and very generous portions! I also took my mum for breakfast and we were very impressed again. Great local restaurant that I will look forward to visiting often!

We’ve had a couple of takeaways from the place now and so far both were fabulous. Food is very fresh and tasty. Lovely friendly staff. So nice to see a local business doing well.

We've had takeaway from Villa Roma on 3 separate occasions with friends and family and every time we are blown away by the quality of food and the service from staff. The food tastes amazingly fresh, the garlic bread is off the charts. Highly recommended and a refreshing change to the same old Chinese or Indian takeaways everyone has.

Rude, unprofessional staff. food is as far as you can think from Italian. Being spoken to like I was a dirt on the waiters shoe and told that I shouldn’t ordere what I don’t like???? Try not to mess with ITALIAN recepies and add cream to carbonara sauce, maybe then it won’t taste rubbish. Oh, and try to respect your customers as well. I would never go back to this Italian-wanna be restaurant, wouldn’t suggest it to anyone I know ( and I know a lot of locals!!)

Great food and still piping hot when arriving on time, pasta with sea food was lovely , pasta with Clams great, pizza was great also but burnt crust so have scored 4 stars instead of 5

We’ve had breakfast here before but not an evening meal. We took our own wine and had a simply delicious meal. We ordered starters and mains which came in large portions, piping hot and were all fabulous in flavour. We couldn’t resist all delving into each other’s food! Excellent value for money and we took a doggy bag home. Will definitely be back. Thank you Villa Roma.

A group of us visited villa Roma , 4 families ,18 of us in total and the place was ideal.

Tried the takeaway option for the first time tonight (we have never eaten in). Took about 40 mins to be delivered which was in line with expectations set. We ordered garlic bread with cheese and crab Milanese for starters and fettuccine al Spinaci and risotto al tre fungi for main courses. All were served very hot as they were in tinfoil containers. All were massive portions and one main course could have easily served 2 people. All of the food was very well cooked and tasted very nice.

This is my son's favourite place to eat/ takeaway. The pizzas are massive and absolutely delicious. We ate in a few times and had take away too... on every occasion the food was fantastic and the portions are fairly big. I highly recommend the calamari for starters and sea food risotto/pasta for main. They are so delicious I eat myself into a coma every time I have them :).

So easy to order on line and to pickup 20 minutes later. I ordered two different pasta dishes and a pizza. Really great food and I would certainly give this restaurant full marks for food and service.

This place is a fresh new addition to Crowthorne High Street and is very welcome, as the only other place to get Italian food has become dull and boring. The decor is clean, tidy, and bright, with the option to sit out front if the weather is nice. The staff are friendly and clearly passionate about the quality of the food. I normally order take away and can't fault it. The pizzas are tasty, hot, and made scratch. Definitely recommend x

Okay, a bit cramped and had very shouty children when I visited. Maybe just not for me but I imagine that others may well enjoy it.

For take away pizzas great place; good selection and tasty. A big bonus is the option to order online; the order is confirmed very quickly and it tells you how long the wait is

Have had a few meals delivered from here and have enjoyed them all. Bruschetta very tasty, thin pizzas with generous fillings and various pasta dishes. Food arrives piping hot and in good time.

We've had pizzas and pastas from here and they're always really fresh and cooked by the time they specify. The food is really good and great value. My son has also eaten here with his friends at lunchtime and they've been really accommodating to having young kids in there. There's not many places in the village that kids can go and get something to eat so pleased this is there for them.

I tried this place for the first time with my elderly parents. There was not a lot on offer on the cake front so we opted to share the pancakes. They were so delicious! Fluffy and light with generously scattered with banana strawberries and raspberries. Just a light drizzle of syrup. My dad just had to tell someone that was perusing the menu that they should try the pancakes! The coffee was good to. The place was clean and newly done out.They tell us they do take away. The only disadvantage is that they are not licenced for alcohol.

This was our first visit to this place to collect a takeaway. As a "restaurant" it was empty and poorly presented (very very basic). I would certainly not eat inside at this establishment. There was a young child aged about three wandering about presumably belonging to one of the staff and going in and out of the kitchen area. There was no engagement with the staff during our 20 minute wait. and no customers on a Saturday evening at 7.30. Perhaps this speaks for itself.We ordered two pizzas, my wife said she enjoyed hers but my seafood one had a saturated soggy base that made it almost inedible. This was very disappointing as the quality and variety of the seafood on the pizza was good. Would we recommend this establishment? NO and it is very doubtful that we will bother with another takeaway eitherl

I use to love this place & had never had a bad meal ether eating in or takeaway until now. The last two takeaways we had have been terrible. The pasta sauce is just full of oil leaving the meal inedible. My friends seafood pasta was tasteless with hardly any actual seafood in it.After the last two times I won't be ordering again.

Me and my fiance celebrated our 2 year anniversary at the newly named Bella Luna which we attended with 3 other family members.All of our starters were beautifully presented and not skimping on the portion size either.. I had the calamari and it was perfect!The service was quick and we were very well looked after with drinks etc.The mains arrived and they were also very handsome portions and the flavours were very good!We've had takeaway from this restaurant before as well and that is equally good and you get 10% off if you collect.Will definitely be returning and can highly recommend :)

Just wanted to add that I agree a definite downward trend in standard of the food. The last two times we wanted to go out, we opted the stay in rather then come to this restaurant which was one of our favourite places until the changes.

As I am writing this I am sat on the toilet because I can't leave !!! Disappointing service , tasteless food and a portions of the runs for my trouble. With plenty of other options best by this place really needs to sort it's self out!

I have been many times in this place all ways has been perfect everything, now is under new management things are even better , there even more choices ,we were on busy day and we waited little longer to have our meal but it was worth waiting because it was so nice and tasty ( specially the Duck ) now is called Bella Luna , can wait to go back again . Highly recommended .

The place was busy, but the service was very slow, in fact over an hour and a quarter before we had our food, fortunately we were with good company and my partner does not let me moan !!!!!. Yes we had a kind of apology, but not really. The food, rib eye was average too much sauce, the other also thought the food was average. So dissapointed

Slow service, minimal choice for vegetarians, no specials board anymore, mixed up 1 persons order, happened before too,, 3 bottles of wine were being shared by 6 of us but different wines by our choice but the waiter topped up the wrong glasses therefore mixing 2 wines and didn't apologise when it was pointed out, restaurant ran out of bread,, the spaghetti napoli wasnt authentic and wasn't fresh pasta, portion was tiny and tasteless, overall not worth the money. Definitely wont be returning

This is my 4th visit to the Villa Roma and it get better every time it's a great place to eat... The Spaghetti Vongole is the the best best my wife has had in the UK and she is Italian the Veal was amazing ... good honest food will be back soon

The food was superb and really tasty. The food was definitely authentic Italian cuisine. The price of the food is amazing considering how good quality the food is. The waiters are really friendly and go above and beyond.

Villa Roma was my brother's favourite restaurant. Sadly we lost him to aggressive cancer last October. It would have been his 66th birthday on 1st February so 39 of us, family and friends booked to celebrate his life. We had a wonderful evening, great food served efficiently and piping hot. The staff were very attentive and made sure we had a great evening. I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough.

We went with friends at the weekend and the food was superb I had monkfish and the others had steak it was second to none plenty of it too the staff are soo friendly we weren't rushed either I would defiantly say this is worth a visit I've benn to some very nice Italians And this little restaurant in thatcham is one of the nicest tasting ones I've experienced

We didn't book but was shown a table straight away. Staff were as friendly as always. I ordered a pasta dish with a starter to be brought out at the same time. My friend ordered off the specials menu it was a monkfish dish that he said tasted amazing. We both had dessert as it would have been rude not to when it's only £3.95 a dessert. With drinks which was a bottle of wine & a bottle of sparking water it all came to £58. Brilliant value

We had previously obtained the Christmas menus by visiting this restaurant. We were a group of seven and the seating provided was on a small square table for two butted up to a round table for five but at different heights. There were only six side plates placed on the bare tables. The complimentary bread and olives provided was the quantity for a couple - just nine very small pieces for seven people. We asked for more and received just five more even smaller pieces.We tried to order from the Christmas menu and were told that we needed to pre-order for this menu despite having asked that very question when the menus were collected two weeks previously. We soldiered on and four of our group ordered the deep fried brie starter only to be told that they had none. The main course on the Christmas menu was ribeye and several of us ordered this.The food was served on stone cold plates but was edible if not enthralling. One of the group waited some time for his meal to appear after six had been served. The Ribeye dishes were covered in a thick sauce it was obvious that the bungling waiter had no clue which was rare or well done and they were served with a complete lack of charm or charisma. Desserts were OK with a reasonable choice. Six ordered coffees and these were OK.A complimentary thimble-sized Lemoncello at the end did little to improve my view of this establishment.Finally, we were overcharged and this allows me to sum up this eatery to which I will not be returning (there are better restaurants in Thatcham just yards away).The epitome of mediocrity - very average food - poor ambiance - poor value and service.An average rating probably overstates its real standing.

We have now eaten in this restaurant 4 times and we have never been let down. The atmosphere is very relaxed and homely with a real strong Italian feel. The staff are so friendly and helpful. They will do everything in their power to give a fabulous evening.The menu is extensive with so much to choose from it caters for everyone even vegetarians. As for the food it is simple delicious with each mouthful taking you to ltaly. If you want a romantic night out its a great place to go. If you want to take the family out for treat again go to Villa Roma

Thought we would drop in for a little light lunch, forgot that the portions are huge! We couldn't manage more than half each so the rest was boxed up for tea.

Not a bad place at all, the atmosphere was great as was the service, the price is reasonable and is definitely value for money. The venue is a bit small but this contributes to the buzz. The food was of good standard.

The food here was nice enough and was served quickly but the décor could do with an upgrade. The waiter also forgot to get the black pepper he went back to the kitchen for and had to remind another waiter for this.

It's a small italia restaurant but the food is simply amazing. I've eaten in and had takeaway this month and each time the food has been epic. When I picked up my takeaway pizzas they even gave me free strawberry cheese cake!This is a seriuously authentic Italian resteraunt and if your in Thatcham make sure you don't miss out.

We often get takeway during the week for lunch, the food is always great and service is excellent. This will remain as a regular place for lunch.

The Pizza I had was the best one I have had in a long time ! The staff were also very helpful and professional. I will definitely be coming back.

We really love this restaurant, we went for the first time on New Years' Eve just after they opened and go back regularly. We've also had family parties and work outings there, as well as evenings out with friends. The menu is varied and the portions are generous, we usually have to take some home with us! Can't recommend it highly enough.

Had a couple of visits here and from them we have mixed reviews.The restaurant is quite narrow and the first time we went one whole side was taken up by a party. This slowed down the service slightly however the food was amazing! So we gave it another chance when quoted and the food and service were great again.After a few more visits my wife now preferes this one over the other Italian in thatcham as, when there are no parties, this is a better place for a quite meal for the two of you. I would probably say this place is cheaper and have slightly better food too.It looks small and doesn't quite have the "out front presence" and look but its worth going. They also very helpful with kids / prams etc.

My wife and I shared a pizza and a pasta dish, both were excellent. My wife then had profiteroles and I had tiramisu again both excellent. The meal was better than any we had in Venice a few weeks earlier, and much cheaper. An excellent evening out.

We decided on a takeaway as when the weather is hot it's far to hot to eat in this restaurant.Gorgeous food & loads of it. Only complaint would be that you can't order online which to me is annoying

Four of us went to eat here on Saturday night....the food was only ok, 90% of the food covered in sauce! and the steak was a really cheap cut, and not the one it said... (One of our party is a butcher, the other a beef broader, so we know our meat) only one of the waiters was ok, the other never looked at as once, as was too busy looking over us at the woman on the table behind... Had to ask for the breadsticks.... They were then pretty much thrown at us... Asked for more lime in our drink, no one bothered to come back, so we had to go up and get it ourselves....the noise was unbearable and we only said a handful,of words as you literally couldn't hear each other across the table...would we go back?? No.....

Second time here nephews 18th first time wasn't to good but this time it was ok 18 people service was ok food was goodish but there was something missing that could push this place from being run of the mill to a good Italian in thatcham

When this Italian restaurant first opened, we were very unsure but don't judge a book by it's cover! We have been back many times as it is a lovely place to eat. Very friendly staff and being gluten intolerant, I was very surprised to find that they had gluten free pasta unlike the other Italian in the village. It is best to book ahead now, as over the months it has been open, it has become more and more popular, which is well deserved. Overall, a lovely friendly restaurant, not too loud, ample portions and very reasonable prices.Would definitely recommend

Great evening out ...reasonably priced and qualiiy food. Have visited a couple of times....outside initially put us off as fairly basic but the team and the food won us over. Very informal...great for families. Definately go back...again and again...

We came here with our friends who are local and had never visited the restaurant. We had a great meal and they were so impressed with it that they are taking their family there. We all had starters which were large portions - we opted for the pasta - we had wine beers and pud and the complimentary Limoncello at the end. The meal came to £20 a head. Very reasonable - obviously we will be back.

We eat in Dorset on a regular basis and have been bemoaning the lack of authentic Italian bistros in West Berkshire, plenty of chains with formula food, but the real thing is rare. We stumbled across Villa Roma one Sunday evening when it was too late to cook at home, to be honest we were not expecting much. What a surprise, the specials were thoughtful and imaginative, the menu was as one would expect from an Italian bistro, but the wine list was limited. The food (which came after a SHORT wait) was excellent, it exceeded our expectations. The staff made us feel welcome and that they would like to see us again - which they will!

I step in the door and instantly feel welcome.I love the food here and I've been here quite literally 100 times!I love the food so much that I often order takeaway's from here too.The only downside is the size of the establishment, it needs to be bigger as it has become very popular in Thatcham.

This restaurant has been open for a while now and, whilst my wife had been before, this was my first visit. A bank holiday Monday evening.Not very busy - only 2 other tables occupied.Service was quite quick (not too quick, not too slow - just right for us), the food and drinks came in a timely fashion too. Can we have a waiter with a smile next time please?The food was good standard "Italian" - pizza, pasta and meat. I thoroughly enjoyed my pizza - so much better than the big pizza chains. I thought better than the other Thatcham Italian restaurant.The restaurant itself is a standard shop unit converted very basically with very little expense spared in decoration. Still OK, just not brilliant.Another reason I had not been before was when I tried to book and was told I had to have the 7pm or the 9pm sitting (timings something like this - not necessarily spot on!) - I wanted 7.30pm :-( we eat late and our friends eat early so 7.30 was the compromise. The big question is Would I go again? As a couple to drop in on the off chance - Absolutely YES. I would need to think twice as a bigger pre planned gathering.

My friends and I went here and had a lovely evening. The food was fantastic as well as the service. My husband and I have been several times & sometimes get takeaway pizza from there. This is by far the best Italian around.

I visited the Villa Roma for a takeaway, the staff were very welcoming and polite and the food was ready in a reasonable time. Once we'd taken the food home and opened the boxes we were amazed by the size of the portions! The food was very tasty and full of flavour. I'd definitely recommend and visit again in the future. Next time I'd like to try eating in the restaurant.

Thatcham has a well deserved reputation for it's restaurants. Villa Roma is new and authentic Italian restaurant with a warm atmosphere, welcoming and friendly staff and excellent food. Good value but book as it is becoming more popular by the week!

Popped in here for lunch the other day with the wife, fantastic little find reasonably priced and the food is superb. Will definitely be returning soon.

Visited the Villa Roma on a Sunday evening on a whim having walked into town rather than drive to Newbury. And what a great surprise!! The staff couldn't be more polite and welcoming, the menu choice is fantastic, and when the food arrived it couldn't be any closer to perfection. The atmosphere and decor is delightful (much better than what one expects from walking past) and staff didn't hassle us throughout the meal with the repetitive question of 'is everything alright?' that one gets in a lot of other restaurants.In conclusion - we won't bother visiting another Italian restaurant in Thatcham or Newbury ever again and will be visiting the Villa Roma from now on.

Have now visited this place several times food and staff are amazing. On my birthday the staff sang happy birthday with candles in my favourite desert. Well done keep up the good work x
