Valle D'oro Restaurant in West Berkshire

I had a wonderful experience at Valle Doro in Newbury. The Italian food was exceptional, and the staff went above and beyond by making a room reservation for me, ensuring my visit from Florida was seamless. Highly recommend this place for authentic cuisine and excellent hospitality!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Valle D'oro with a business colleague and we absolutely lucked out! It truly felt like a trip to Italy without the airfare - a genuine, authentic Italian experience. The owners were warm and welcoming, the menu was amazing and the food was sublime! Don't be put off by the lack of recent reviews on its website - we highly recommend this gem of a restaurant!

Absolutely delicious food, beautiful service by a delightful lady, took me back to the 70’s and 80’s when people were proud of the food they cooked, and proud to wait on people, what a joy to see a restaurant that hasn’t succumbed to the pressure of keeping up to date with the latest fad. Traditional Italian food, great portion size and no mention of what farm the beef was raised on, global fusion, eco conscious dining, plant based delicacies or interactive dining, just here’s your lasagne pal, do you want Parmesan cheese? Black pepper?

Authentic little Italian restaurant just off the main high street. The Italian lady who served us was incredibly welcoming, almost like stepping inside her home. The food is very good and full of flavour. We didn't feel at all rushed with a huge amount of choice on the menu. A nut allergy was catered for amazingly, and they explained they don't use nuts on or in anything except the trifle. We'll definitely be retuning here.

Lovely hosts and a great deal of delicious food. We had Minestrone, mixed grilled fish, and spaghetti colognes, with cauliflower cheese, broccoli and carrots. All were great.

Traditional old fashioned Italian restaurant. Wonderful attentive service and a nice atmosphere. Funghi starter with pancetta and blue cheese was brilliant as were the calamares. Pasta was better than other main courses. Good wine list and value for money.

This was our first time and we are absolutely over the moon with our experience. The food was absolutely beautiful, real home cooked quality food. Portion sizes are also fantastic, you really get your moneys worth. A stunning family run restaurant and we will for sure be returning!!

As a group of 5 we visited this place and had a great experience. The lady serving was very friendly and happy to help with anything we needed. The menu is broad but not overcomplicated. The food was really good, I had the arrabbiata and added chicken, my colleagues had the lasagna and garlic bread. All the food tasted fresh and the portions were good too. Its a nice small restaurant, which does make it quite loud when its full but we didn't mind because its what you should expect from a nice little place like this. We will be happily returning in the coming weeks.

This restaurant serves great food. We went with friends and chose the set menu at £29.99 + 10% service charge. The food was amazing and the portions were huge, we struggled to eat all that was put in front of us but we did our best! Our waiter was lovely and very friendly. Definitely will go again soon.

Such a lovely place, food and atmosphere were amazing. Staff were very friendly and you felt like you had gone to dinner at a friends house , it was so relaxed. Such a wide variety of food to choose from and the starters could have been shared they were that generous. Would highly recommend to anyone.

(+) A friendly welcome & attentive service, including doggy bags if the generous portions beat you; There are 3x menus, including a Vegetarian one; The Penne All'Arrabbiata was spot on; The choices of 3x veg were delicious. (-) It couldn't be confirmed if the Parmesan was Vegetarian!; The bottles of beer are small; The ice-cream wasn't as gourmet as I expected!; It was cold despite sitting near the radiator & as far as possible from the front door; The bill isn't itemised; It was difficult not to be distracted by the conversations from other tables, & the room (downstairs) was only half full; Parking could be tricky. Note, there are toilets upstairs (no lift) but I didn't use them.

We visited at the weekend as a party of 14 to celebrate my Stepson's birthday and recent engagement. Our food had been pre-ordered due to the size of the party and all of our food was served together and was lovely, if not huge portions. I had the prawn cocktail starter (complete with smoked salmon and avocado) and I've never seen so many breaded mushrooms on a starter. The main meals were just as big, but delicious and not everyone could manage dessert. The night was made even more special by the service. Our waiter Jose was incredibly entertaining, kept us topped up with food and drinks all night and is a credit to the restaurant. He did make me chuckle when I asked if they had Pannacotta as he advised that Creme Caramel is the same (that is when I knew he wasn't Italian!) - a great time, our first visit, but certainly won't be our last!

Italian restaurant that does not serve Pizza. So they serve a lot of home cooking which is very nice. Our group enjoyed their meals. No menu online though. House White £16.90 a bottle. Starters are very big, friends liked the Whitebait. Lasagne was very nice. Desserts were good as well. Budget around £42 per person for a meal and drinks.

Absolutely beyond stunning. Wonderful food and exceptional service from lovely people. The owners are just excellent! Made to feel very welcome, they have so much time for their patrons.

Birthday meal fantastic evening

The restaurant is very dated. With too many tables crammed into a small space meaning it was very loud in there and couldn't hear the other people on our table. Drinks took an hour to arrive. Starters were mediocre at best. Main course arrived almost an hour after the starters with vegetables for our roasts put on the table a good 10 mins before the meat turned up. Chicken was cooked that's a bonus. Tortellini was a congealed mess, roast pork had the loin missing and had an inch of fat round it not even crispy crackling roast beef was old. It tasted if congealed blood and was visibly off. It was grey and had been beaten to make it tender. Needless to say I didn't eat it. Roast potatoes were soggy. We didn't stay for dessert. 2 and a half hours and I've had to come home to have some food. Overpriced awful food.

We attended for a reunion meal with my father on 17th Dec. Service was very slow. 1 hour for drinks and another hour for food. When food arrived my roast beef was inedible. The meat was old and has left a horrid taste in my mouth. My husbands pork had the loin missing and the tortellini was disgusting. I waited 2 hours and had to come home to have my lunch

My wife & I have been going to The Valle D’oro Restaurant for many years. The first time was when we were girlfriend/boyfriend. As our children grew up, we would take them to celebrate various birthdays and special occasions etc. But for no real reason we did not visit for about ten years +. It was during the pandemic and the “Eat out to help out” that we went there for a lunch. Nothing had really changed in that the food was excellent the service was friendly and jolly. We then started to frequent this restaurant fairly often, sometimes as a couple or with our daughter and granddaughter. The meals were consistently of a high standard and we enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant. Around March/April 2023 we decided to have our Golden Wedding Anniversary celebration at The Valle D’oro Restaurant, which was in the coming December. We discussed this with Carmen and Carlos and a table for twelve people was booked. Our anniversary date was the 08.12.2023 which was a Friday, we made our booking for the 10.12.2023 which was a Sunday, for a lunch time session. Well, what an excellent time was had by all. From the moment we walked through the door Carmen made sure everyone was made welcome. We were all seated and the drink requirements for everyone was taken. Some of our guests had never been to this restaurant, where as others had not frequented it for many years. To keep this brief, the many different chosen starters all arrived within minutes of each other. Everyone tucked in and all were saying how good theirs was. The many different main courses were also served within minutes of each other. Again, lots of complements were being discussed and offered. Between Carmen and her waiter (sorry I can’t remember his name) everyone’s drinks were kept topped up. They were also VERY attentive to make sure everyone was happy and their meals were as required. The pepper mill did its round as did the parmesan cheese, of which some had perhaps a little more than other restaurants give. We all took a breather after eating the main courses. Champagne was served as agreed and toasts were made. It was now time for desserts. Most people said no they could not eat anymore. I and two others said we were definitely having a dessert, of which ten were then served. (They were being too polite). All the desserts were to die for, all very fresh and very moreish. In total we were in attendance for almost five hours. How time fly’s when everyone is enjoying themselves. I had no idea where the time went. Not once did we get the feeling we had over run our welcome. I applogised to Carmen for not realising what the time was, she remained her normal calm self and said no problem. She was happy that we were all happy. I have to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to all at The Valle D’oro Restaurant for making our 50th Wedding Anniversary celebration such a wonderful experience. I firmly believe it could not have been bettered anywhere else.

We went as a group of 23. The host was welcoming, friendly and funny, and very very busy. The food was copious and excellent quality. After a starter and main course I could not cope with the reportedly wonderful tiramisu or other desserts and enjoyed a fruit salad instead. All my friends reported their choices of food to be of highest quality and more than expected amounts. The price was very reasonable too.

Sometimes, an experience is so good you feel compelled to write a review. I was attracted by an Italian Restaurant that clearly states it doesn't serve pizza. What it does serve is great food. No frills or nonsense, just great food and plenty of it. Having eaten in several establishments in Newbury whilst on business, this has become my go-to eatery. Run by a lovely Spanish couple it has a lovely homely feel, too. Highly recommended.

I'm not sure where to start but this is Newbury's oldest restaurant by a long way. The food is very nice with a wide range of meat and fish available as well as a great tapas menu. The venue is intimate and set over 2 floors it's ideal for date night or a family meal and definitely worth checking out if you haven't already

The best Italian food in town. Quality homemade food, with that extra care that makes us think we're at home. Perfect portions and the sense of a family atmosphere is what makes this place so nice. Staff are very friendly and smiling, puts you in a good positive mood!

Stayed in New Burry for a working visit, Ate on the first day at a large restaurant in the center, ate here on the second day. The food here was much better, much tastier and not too cheap! Very friendly hostess, baguette as a main course, we had leg of lamb and blackfish, I can tell you, we were full!!! The sauces that came with it did not detract from the Meat/Fish. If we come to New Burry again, I will definitely eat there again!

Great lunch! Absolutely delicious. as usual Favourite restaurant. Had Bistecca Diana the rest of our group had roasts. The vegetables are perfect here especially the courgette fritters. Evening menu is just as good with a varied selection. The owner and a staff seem to effortlessly and efficiently deal with this busy restaurant always with a smile

The best Italian food I have ever had in my life!!! Super flavoursome and was cooked beautifully. Lovely little extras like complimentary breadticks and butter, very generous portions and homemade dessert. The lady who served us was an absolute delight and made sure we were happy with everything. We haven't stopped talking about it since. Worth a visit!

We discovered this local Italian gem a decade ago and it has not disappointed on each and every visit. The food is fresh and portions generous. You are warmly welcomed by Carmen and her husband Carlos delivers up delicious plates from the kitchen. If you are in a rush, let the staff know. Otherwise, dining is leisurely. Not to be missed!

We used to visit regularly when our son lived in Newbury so when friends were complaining they couldn't find a proper Italian, we hoped Valle D'oro was still as good. I am pleased to say we had a wonderful evening - friendly staff, a nice atmosphere and great food. The only problem was that the portions were so large, we were unable to manage a dessert! The 4 of us are looking forward to a return visit.

Valle D’Oro is a wonderful family run independent Italian Restaurant in Newbury town centre, it’s food and drink selection is very good, so many options for steaks, the service was fast and friendly and you could tell the staff really care about their customers and the venue itself is cosy and well decorated. I had the steak in peppercorn sauce, I think if I ordered again I’d go for rare instead of medium rare. The fillet steak itself was incredible, it’s in my top five all time steaks, and it one of my go to items on menus so I’ve had lots in the past. The peppercorn sauce was also excellent, very thick and incredibly peppery, creamy goodness. The portion sizes are massive, so be careful not to over order, the vegetable selection looked amazing but we had no room left to try it. This is a great local business, it’s been located in Newbury since the 1080’s and you can see why it’s been so successful and long lived, it’s just brilliant, most highly recommend

The worst restaurant in the history of restaurants. Poor service and terrible, tasteless, badly presented food.

If you want a relaxed, intimate Italian or Spanish meal in Newbury then I would highly recommend visiting the “Valle d’Oro” restaurant. All the staff were wonderfully friendly- we were made to feel like we were part of the family. The food we had was excellent-from the complimentary fresh bread & butter to the delicious Specials which are all named after the grandchildren of the owners. We had skate, which was cooked to perfection with potato wedges and tortelloni with salmon - both were yummy and washed down with a bottle (or 2) of the quaffable Albarino wine. There was an extensive wine list and the main menu featured a large range of Italian favourites and Spanish tapas dishes, complimented by 5 or 6 ‘Specials’. As a little side, we loved the quiet background music being played- Andrea Bocelli & Il Divo! Well worth seeking out.

There were two people serving; the lady serving was smiley and friendly but the male waiter looked like I was a total inconvenience to him when I asked if my friend could have another fork (the one they had put on the table had a strange, unindentified, black thing glued to it (clearly not clean) He rudely took a fork from another table and almost shouted on my face: 'Anything else?!' The way he said it and his face expression were very rude as if I shouldn't have dared ask. Then he rudely just threw 2 small spoons of parmesan on my dish. When I asked for more he said 'sure!' loudly. He is up and down. The grilled sardine was OK, the pasta was very good but the (French!) bread served at the beginning was at least 3 days old ! (And not properly Italian or fresh at all. I made an effort and attempted to say something in Italian to the lady, but she replied in English. The table was well laid out but the flower on the table was a cheap, plastic one. So was the cluttery. No nice touches at all. The male waiter never smiles, walks around as if he doesn't want to he there and the customers were an inconvenience, treats people rudely (or is it just women??) and get orders wrong all the time. We had been there many years ago; I came out of there with the same feeling of dissatisfaction as before.. this is not right. We won't be returning..

Absolutely fantastic genuine Italian please if anyone love Italian food this is the absolute no.1 place for food , quality and fantastic service so friendly wonderful, We’ve been so let down with bad Italian restaurants but in the words of Arnie “ Ill be back”

Fantastic service, food was incredible and the price was very reasonable. 2 fillet steaks cooked to perfection with extra sides and a bottle of wine for £80. If I was closer I would never be away from here, you can’t beat that family feel independent restaurant that delivers fresh, delicious food.

We were looking for value for money and a good atmosphere, yes we found it here. Brilliant attentive service and the menu covered all options. We decided on the house white wine and this was very reasonably priced, nice and cold and dry. The food we ordered was well cooked with superb flavours. This was by far the best meal we had whilst in the Oxford and Newbury area.

An absolutely fantastic local family run restaurant. We enjoyed the food cooked by Carlos which was delicious, plentiful and varied; service from Carmen who gave us time to consider our choices but delivered our food quickly, cheerfully and with good grace and the atmosphere which was warm and inviting. Given that this was on a Monday evening you might think the restaurant would be empty, the staff slow to serve and the food lacking but this place was an absolute gem.

Simply fantastic food. A decent glass of wine, a marked vintage Montepulciano as the house wine puts most other establishments to shame. Decor is homely and a fine repaste.

Have visited Valle Doro numerous times. It is one of my favourite places to spend the evening. We have people who visit us and always want to go back there. The atmosphere is very welcoming in this family run restaurant. The food is both very tasty and really generous portions. It is superb value for money. The staff make it special because the attention you get is not like many places. I reccomend the Tiramasu for desert. Call to book a table to avoid disappointment, especially at the weekend.

We had the Sunday lunch menu. There was a really good range of dishes and the portions were huge - the starters were main course sized. The food was excellent. The front of house lady was a real delight.

The fish was exceptionally tender, the house vine nice. We ordered Dover sole and sea bass, carbonara for the little one, and polished it all with a tiramisu. It was great dinner for Mother's day.

What do you go to a restaurant for……. 1, The food? 2, Location or atmosphere? 3, Or may be both? Let me start by saying this restaurant has been here for years and is one of Newbury’s hidden gems, however if you are after a Disney type Italian all over experience this isn’t it. I felt cramped into a corner, it appeared a little dated and could do with a re-fresh maybe more of an Italian theme. The food however was great with a good selection of Italian dishes with good sized portions. The service was good and the owners/attentive. You can always tell a good restaurant with the number of bums on seats, it was rammed.
