I found that the Chicken Tikka Masala was very sweet with sugar and coconut; not what I expected for a main course. Staff were very pleasant.

Popadoms fine but meagre portions of chutney. Waited well over 45 minutes for our main course. Poor presentation of food. A red onion in big round slices isn’t good. Biryani was far too spicy. Small portions of chicken in all our dishes. We even had to pay for a container to take home our uneaten food. Never again. I do not recommend.

Excellent curry, quick service, not expensive. I drank Coke (because I was driving) which was a bit flat. I think it may have been served from large plastic bottles whereas postmix or individual glass bottles would be better, but to be honest that's the only criticism I would give, and it's not like we go to a curry house for the Coca-Cola!

We visited Vilasa Restaurant about a month ago with friends, and the experience was disappointing. The biryani was a letdown—it tasted more like masala rice with boneless pieces of chicken, lacking the rich flavours and spices that make biryani special. While the food was decent on its own, it didn’t qualify as biryani. The side vegetable curry served with it was nice, but the biryani itself wasn’t worth the money. Considering the price we paid, the food did not meet our expectations, although the restaurant's ambiance was pleasant. Overall, the experience was far from satisfactory.

Now, first off this review is not about the food and I’ve waited a couple of weeks before posting to calm down. Dining at any restaurant for me is about the food and customer service and for the latter is what has caused me to give this 1 star review. I regularly go out and order takeaway Indian food but never once have I experienced the disregard for a customers situation and rude attitude afforded that I faced when dining at Vilasa with my young family. I attended At 5:30pm on a Saturday with my wife, 8yr old, 6 yr old and 2yr old and ordered 2 main meal curries, rice, selection of naan breads, a large sharing platter starter and soft drinks for us to share (this was the children’s first Indian dining experience and as such we were not sure what they would like but wanted to expand on their food experiences and introduce a variety of foods for them to try). However my order was flatly refused as apparently this was not enough to warrant eating at the restaurant. Even though the sharing platter was more expensive than all main dishes I was told we needed to order more main dishes as we were a table of 5. This would have been plenty of food for my young family and there was no restriction mentioned anywhere. When questioning reasoning the manager didn’t even have the dignity to discuss this with me and would only converse via our server. The attitude we faced was disgusting and I would strongly suggest you do not consider visiting with children. They have lost my custom as a result and I will never use this place again. As said, this is not a review of the food as I have enjoyed eating here at the past but the owners need to have a long look in the mirror and consider how they treat people. The restaurant was had 2 other tables in at this time and we would have been in and out within the hour as bedtime was approaching. They have not only lost our custom but the opportunity to encourage future generations to enjoy their food.

We had a fantastic meal here at Vilasa! We'd tried to get a table on a Thursday night, not knowing that it was 'Gourmet night' so we couldn't get in. We went back the next night after booking a table. It's got a lovely ambiance and the decor is stylish. Waiters were friendly, courteous and attentive. Food was delicious! We had a Chicken Madras and a Sultan Bhuna, special fried rice, garlic/ cheese nan and a keema nan! All yummy!

Update: We've frequented Vilasa since moving to Portishead and I don't think we've ever had a less than great experience. Love the food, staff and environment. Really disappointed with the attitude and customer service last night. We have frequented this restaurant on numerous occasions and had many a take away. Every 1-2 months I arrange a catch up with old work mates and go for the Thursday night gourmet deal and usually there is anywhere from 5-10 of us. We had always noted the coffee included in the deal, but never chose to take it up till last night, so when the bill arrived with them listed at extra cost, we queried it. We were shown the leaflet about the deal and the coffee had been crossed out in marker, so they said it was no longer included. We pointed out the fact that the website still listed it as included along with some of the menus, on to be told abruptly that the management can make changes whenever they like. I can’t knock the food at this place, but am appalled at the customer service and the way my friend was spoken to. They even told him not to come back. As the person who arranges these nights and a resident of Portishead myself, I felt embarrassed. The monitory cost was minimal, and we have previously left generous tips that would more than covered the cost of the coffee. Simply put, I will not be returning again, purely for the way we were spoken to by management. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am. The good news is that we have plenty of choice in Portishead when it comes to finding an alternative.

We have a Thursday Buffet deal about every couple of months here, never been offered a coffee or asked for one (or seen anyone else be offered one), until today. Asked for coffee. Initially told they may be closed (at 9.50pm), then coffee's given. When the bill arrived they have charged £2.50 extra per coffee. Disputed it was part of the buffet deal, they advised they have crossed it out on the flyer they put on the table. Pointed out is on their menus, and their web site as part of the deal. They refused to back down insisting it's additional charge now. Manager insisted drawing a line through the table flyer means you have to pay. Best part is we normally give a good tip that would easily have covered the coffee cost. Has anyone ever received the free coffee? Was told not to come back for disputing the extra cost? Great Customer service. Only interested in money.

When we booked we were told it was a very busy night, asked to pre order so we wouldn’t be kept waiting. Sat at 8pm as booked. Drinks took forever. We had poppadoms. The lady hovered to take them so we assumed main was on its way. I would suggest if mains are nearly an hour away leave people with poppadoms. Mains arrived about 9.20. Food was good except for hairs in the salad. (Didn’t complain as didn’t have 2 hours to wait for a staff member) The staffing is so disorganised. There’s a guy on the bar who could be utilised to assist with drinks orders but isn’t. The three staff waiting tables put all their effort into the order needing serving so drink orders require you to go to the bar or you wait forever. Not ideal mid meal or as part of a big party celebration when people don’t want to be stood at the bar. This is why we booked a restaurant and not a pub. We have had better experiences here however the wait times are always too long. Will be returning to the Ghandi where the food is equally as good but customer service is paramount. I think Vilasa has had its day.

Visiting the area for a few days my husband and I decided to try this restaurant as we both enjoy Indian food. We were not disappointed. Staff were friendly and welcoming, we were seated quickly with drinks, poppadoms and chutney tray arriving soon after. Hub ordered a chicken karahi, me a chicken tikka sagwala and we shared a pilau rice and peshwari naan. The food arrived piping hot and was absolutely delicious. We both agreed our mains were perfectly cooked, rich in flavour and just the right amount of heat from the spices. The naan soft and squidgy. Portions were generous, I couldn't finish mine. We just had a soft drink each and the bill was very reasonable at just under £32. We will definitely be back to this restaurant next time we are in the area.

Seemed a bit poorly organised as we came in, our table wasn’t ready but we ate early so not sure why it wasn’t ready. Was impressed with the look of the menu, lots of allergen signage etc so you would know what’s in each meal (always important for us as one of us is vegan). We ordered our meals, I noticed the waiter hadn’t heard one of our party say her dish was to be vegan, so I made sure to say vegan when ordering the rice. We were then thoroughly scorned for not making it clear immediately when ordering that one of us was vegan (which we had but it was missed). The dish first ordered (which was marked vegan on the menu) had to be altered on the tablet which seemed a huge inconvenience, the atmosphere was awful I couldn’t believe we were told off in such a manner. Scorning us for not stating immediately that one of us is vegan seemed a complete juxtaposition to what then happened as they made two huge errors. First, the vegan special rice (marked vegan on the menu and requested and marked as vegan when ordering) was served with egg in. The vegan nearly said “don’t worry I won’t have any” and rather than insist on correcting anything the waiter seemed chuffed at not having to fuss about us and said “so all okay then?”, but I wasn’t happy after being scorned earlier so I insisted it was swapped. So they swapped it out, very quickly, but for an entirely different rice altogether that we didn’t really want. More worryingly, the vegan dish was cooked in ghee which has only become apparent later this evening after leaving the restaurant due to the vegan throwing up their entire meal. Note to the restaurant, ghee is a dairy product and not vegan! And while we’re here, egg also isn’t vegan. Why is the menu marked so well (with the exception of one of the chicken starters being marked vegan) but the dishes aren’t executed correctly? We were also served the wrong bottle of wine, which wasn’t an accident because the one we ordered was out of stock so they just served us something else without asking or telling us. When we noticed and asked for the wine menu, they then told us what happened, after we had poured it. Didn’t pour the wine either just left it unopened on the table for us to do, probably done on purpose to try and hide the fact it was the wrong bottle. Then on the bill charged us for the wine they’d run out of as well as the one we were given. Easy mistake to forget to remove it, but in front of the whole restaurant the waiters had a squabble at the bar about who got our bill wrong and another telling off. At least it wasn’t aimed at us that time. Pretty poor all around.

We first enter... Very clean, its a wet day and there is a guy mopping all the excess water that people leave behind upon entering the restaurant... I was impressed. We sit at the table... A member of staff keeps reiterating that we have the table for 1 hour 45 minutes. As a ex chef i know what thats for, they are turning tables so that they can sit 2 sittings in a evening. I dont mind, we are all struggling with rising energy costs etc however there is no need to hurry and rush people... We then order our drinks, my friend had to ask for water 3 times, and the J2O that me and the driver order are room temperature, i was like oh well I'll let them off. Moving on... The ordering system was convoluted and made things ridiculously complicated... The waiter also wasn't friendly, and looked at us funny. He felt rushed and got a bit funny when i wanted to order some vegetable side dishes. Because of the troublesome ordering system, he made us order our main dishes, then the rice, then basically went to walk away instead of taking our naan and vegetable side dishes order. Over all he was impolite, unhelpful, the ordering system was awful and he wasnt at all helpful, we felt rushed... Side note he didnt even ask do you want spoons to eat or nothing overall AWFUL service. (one last thing, the table was too small, we struggled to even fit everything on the table) Now... The food... It took 55 minutes to come out, which i took note because of the very impolite reminder that we only had a hour and 45 there... Good job we didnt order starters eh? the others didnt really have a problem with their food... Mine on the other hand was a disaster, the dal tadka was far too watery, and the portion for £3:80 was beyond a joke, my pathia had pre cooked chicken in, i knew from the moment i got it... It was DRY. I used the serving spoon to eat mine and it was struggling to go through it was that dry and rubbery. Next we move onto the not very 'cheesy' na'an it must of had a pinch of cheese on top, yes it was cooked in a tandoor oven you could tell by the bubbles etc however... Rest assured the title 'cheesy' is nonsense, of my dishes the best one? Bhindi bhaji... Okra is one of my favourites especially as i travelled india for 6 months... It wasn't slimy, it was well cooked, props to the chef on that one. Lastly on the food, special rice, special would imply its special not just... Some egg, fried onions and some peas 😂 whenever you go to a restaurant or takeaway and order special you get most everything in that rice for example, i order special fried rice from the chinese takeaway you get prawns, char siu pork, beef, chicken and egg in (in some ive ended up with duck, peas, beansprouts, garlic chives etc in) 😒 so to pay 3:50 for a small portion might i add (everything was small portions) for some pilau rice with some onions, peas and egg in... Come on guys... Put some cauliflower in or some keema or cashews or coconut in etc... You have them there on your menu!! We payed 80 pounds for a mediocre experience, and for some very small portions of food, one of us had never eaten a curry before and that was why we went all out for the highest rated. Because i view your nation culinarily as the greatest in the world and everyone and i mean EVERYONE should experience it once in their lifetime. I dont think we will return and i dislike giving a bad review like this, it makes me feel awkward and bad P.s goan fish curry! Colour me impressed, not enough restaurants make this here... A shame. Brings back memories of when i did spend time in goa being taught how to make 🤤

Great food. Excellent service. I visited with 11 friends. We visit a different curry house around Bristol every month just as an excuse to catch up and keep our friendships intact. This is year 15 of our doing this and I can honestly say this...

As others mentioned before the greeting was ‘you have an hour and 45 mins’ then they took 15mins to take our order. We ordered a Balti that was inedible! Tasted of lemons maybe because the request was ‘not very spicy’? Other dishes were just ok....

Dined in, didn't need to book (says a lot about the popularity), However, menu was busy, and I chose a korma curry, I received a madras curry, when I mentioned to the waiter the mistake, I was told that what I ordered (I think I know the difference), however he took it away, when returned I found the same chicken had just been reused for my korma. Again, the waiter was rude, and told me that it was my mistake. I will not be returning, and would not recommend. Total lack of customer care and manners.

New’ish very popular restaurant in my home town that I have been trying to get in for some time. First impression was that it was extremely noisy, all hard surfaces, walls and floor. Unfortunately, we were sat under one of the 2 ceiling speakers which...

Excellent food! Very tasty and definitely recommended to eat here. The standard of the Currys are very high and I would also recommend trying the biryanis here too.

Travelled over 300 miles to see friends who wanted to try the food here. Started with poppadums & pickles - never been served grated coconut but it went well with the usual mango, lime picle & mixed onion chutneys. Starters arrived promptly for those that...

Waited over 3 hours for a phone call to go pick up my take away only for it to be cold by the time I got it home. Must be great to sit in and eat as that is clearly where the focus is but if you have plans to eat the same evening, I would have take away from somewhere else. Very disappointed.

The best Indian restaurant in town. The food, whether eaten in or taken away, is consistently excellent. The only slight niggle on takeaways is that their estimated timings can be a tad optimistic. Given the quality of the food on its arrival, this is minor and easily forgiven.

Had a takeaway tonight , mix kebab starter, chicken tikka vindaloo, keema naan and masala chips . Absolutely delicious 😋 I guess if I had to pick fault the staff could of been a bit more welcoming but the food was A1.

Thoroughly enjoyed the food but waiter collected each plate and glass before we’d even finished and bill arrived even before we’d asked for it. Left us feeling like our custom wasn’t valued. Bit disappointing really, even the roller shutter was coming down as we finished...

Best Indian restaurant in the area. Prices fair, popular so generally need to book in advance. They also do take-away food.

Ate here for the first time last night and will definitely return. It could become my new regular. Good was delicious, generous portions and good value. Very busy with dine-ins and takeaways, always a good sign. Staff were attentive but not pushy and everything about it was excellent.

Tried to dine here, but as I was on my own, the management didn't seem to want me there or the other gent that had just asked for a table for one, it wasn't that busy in there but the excuse was it was going to take at least 45- 1 hour to get my meal as they said they were busy, if a table for 6 had just walked would they have been told it was going to take so long ??? I don't think so..... Really disappointed 😞

We ordered a take away as an absolute treat. Checked their food was gluten free - which it is besides Onion Bhajis and Naan. The food is so good I couldn’t eat it all! Lack of UHP to stop me eating a delicious curry. Nice one Red Rose!

Ate here last night as with other reviews I was extremely disappointed. This place used to be good but last night staff didn't know what they were doing and the girls miserable not sure if they are new. Won't be back in a hurry

We visited the restaurant in October for the first time in a while and thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Fresh quality ingredients, great atmosphere and professional but friendly service. We arrived at 6:00 and explained we needed to be finished by 7:00 as we were off to the theatre. Raj delivered as promised and without being rushed, we were able to leave on time, having all commented on the quality of the food. We’ve visited again on 3 November and opted for dishes recommended by the server. The scallop starter, chicken Golap and king prawn jalfrezi were stand out dishes, although all dishes were very good. Thanks!

Came here, post carnival. Curry Garden offers a truly elegant dining experience. The modern, clean decor strikes the perfect balance between sophistication and warmth, it has stylish furnishings, beautiful hand painted murials with subtle Indian accents. I loved the antique Buddha on the bar! The ambiance is classy yet welcoming, I took my family this time, but wouldn’t hesitate to go here for a special anniversary or date meal. The food was of exceptional quality, I had the qubhani lamb shank. It was honestly the best I have ever tasted. Rich, slightly sweet and so flavourful. If you ever visit Weston don’t miss this place!
