The food is amazing as always and a great way to conclude with a delicious masala chai.

Being from Kerala myself, we were keen on getting good authentic malayalee food. Vijay India restaurant went way beyond our expectations. Firstly like to appreciate the hard work, warm and welcoming hospitality received from the amazing staff. Inspite being on a weekday night, the restaurant was full. We noticed regular customers who told us they come here very often and love the Indian food which definitely says the quality of food received. The owner was extra helpful and takes effort to communicate with all the guests and is open to feedback which definitely shows in their steady progress and to maintain consistency of the good quality food for all these years. Coming to the food , mallu in me was craving for hot parotta and beef. Beef is not there on the menu, but you can ask for it. Starters we had tea-which reminded us of back home ,how we get tea from small shops in Kerala and we were suggested to get samosas as they are freshly made and not frozen. Samosas were indeed good-tasted fresh, good generous filling of chicken. We also tried prawns with puri- interesting combination and the prawns were bursting with flavours and well made (not rubbery). Mains we had hot crispy flaky parotta, freshly made with beef which was semidry and fish curry. They stuck with the original Kerala spicy level which made it even more special for us. My personal favourite was chilly chicken - it's semidry preparation, but complemented well with parotta. People who miss Indo-chinese food will definitely love this chicken preparation. I would highly recommend trying this restaurant for good authentic Kerala food and will definitely come again to try other dishes. The menu is very extensive and has plenty of vegetarian dishes as well. Walkable distance from the tube station.

What can I say, you try different places and they just don’t stack up. Vijays is very good..

I'm rating Vijays from the nineties, as it was my nearest, and immediate favourite curry house, a world of new South Indian food to me, that myself, and all family and friends, absolutely loved instantly... And, following a recent visit a few years ago, it's still a magnificent restaurant. All I can say is this place is a temple of family warmth and food to die for. It's not expensive, not overly showy, just quality good food. A temple of quality.

Came in for lunch and had the Masala dosas with samabar, chutney. Then had the Lamb madras with fresh parathas. Literally all the food was simply outstanding. Authentic, fresh and. high quality Indian food. Hisha was also an excellent server. Will be back and excited to have found such a gem of a place in NW London.

An absolute gem, serving authentic Southern Indian food, not the usual heavy cream laden “British Indian” food. Staff are incredibly calm and pleasant, the facilities are clean with a comforting vintage vibe. Highly highly reminded for lovers of good food. Try the mixed Vada with coconut chutney, and the Kerala Parata!!!

Hey foodie! This place serves slightly modified dishes (not spicy or super authentic). It’s not bad, but once you have some bites, you might want to eat more. Because it’s not only suitable for everyone’s palate but also is cheap! P.S.: Lemon rice, lamb keema are must to try!!

Went as a large group, service was warm and prompt. The food was excellent, the chutney was fresh, food was spiced very well and the staff were gracious. Will return again.

It must be about 20 years since I last went to Vijay but I wanted to choose somewhere for dinner after visiting a friend in the area. The restaurant is relatively basic with no table cloths and only paper napkins but reasonably well decorated. They had three people serving the 14 eating there when I visited which is rather more than is really needed so the service would be classed as quite good. The dishes are quite tasty although maybe slightly on the small side. The bill without any drinks came to about £23 each which is fairly reasonable.

Lovely food and very helpful service, also a very warm feeling interior. My favourites are the Lamb Malabar and Lamb Biryani.

Don't be deceived by its location. This is one of the best South Indian restaurants in North London. Nothing pretentious or chic about the interior- it's very 1970s; but the food is authentic and very reasonably priced. Attentive and friendly service. We had Handi chicken, Kerelan lamb fry, chana masala and plain rice for £32 (£16/person). Give it a try.

This southern Indian spot has a tremendous amount of diversity and its dishes and its flavors. I am obsessed with the bread offerings. Some of the best paratha.

For reasons I cannot explain I hadn’t been here for years. I shall not make that mistake again! The quality of the food (and service) was just as good, ie superlative as when I came a few times 20 years ago. Already booked in a couple of times with visitors in the coming weeks. 😋

Been coming here since I was small with various family members, always an excellent curry/biryani in my experience. The Lamb Fry is my favorite, though to eat it without a lassi is a dangerous decision indeed. Chana Masala that would inspire one to walk 500 miles... And I say that as a meat muncher 😉

Visited this south Indian restaurant recently and was pleasantly surprised. They served really delicious and authentic Kerala food. We ordered porotta, beef and fish curry, which were all equally amazing. The beef wasn't on the menu as theyre yet to update it, but you can simply ask them. The service was also very good, they were very attentive and made sure we were happy with our food. I'd definitely recommend it and I'm definitely visiting again. 😊

Was craving dosa and so glad we found Vijay India Restaurant! Such tasty food and a lovely space and well-priced. We had the dosa with sambar, chicken malabar, and rasmalai. The dosa was hot, crispy, and light. Sauces were well-spiced and delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend!

Best Indian food I ever had , great atention too

I was really disappointed after coming here, going by the reviews, I was expecting the food to be really good - it wasn't! Poppadoms were stale, chicken quality was poor and the food was really oily. The demographic that eat here are those who don't truly know what authentic South Indian food is. Being Asian, having lived and eaten all over India - food was not up to par. The atmosphere & decor was also below par, they've apparently been around for so long, it shows going by the decor. The only positive point was the service. I must admit that service was really good. They were pleasant, helpful & attentive. Happy to go the extra mile for their customers.

Carte dense avec abondance de plats : On s'y perd, dur de faire un choix. Après avoir choisi un peu au hasard et un peu par expérience, nous avons eu un vrai "patchwork" de plats d'Inde du sud, tous meilleurs les uns que les autres : Goûts, parfums, couleurs, épices... Plaisir des yeux, plaisir des papilles ! Grand choix de plats végétariens. Assurément une bonne adresse sans chichi et dans le respect de la tradition.

The 5 star is definitely deserving. Their sambar and rasam is so hearty. And their coconut rice is just done right. Note that the food is very very hot with abundant use of green chillies, red chillies and ginger. So be prepared for the heat!

Authentic South India food, prompt service and welcoming staff This is london's best kept secret. Unlike other india curry houses, they also serve idli and dosa (rice cakes and crepes) with mouthwatering sambar (a lentil dish which can be slightly spicy, you can ask to customize or have with rice) Highly recommend the idli with sambar.

My friends and me often order from Vijay, who serve some of the best South Indian delicacies in this city. Definitely try it out! The food is carefully and freshly prepared with a nice mix of Keralan and Tamil spices … I think, to perfection. A guilty pleasure for those who enjoy fuzz free comfort food.

My favourite curry house. Always have the lamb biriyani and then a couple of veggie dishes and paratha, because it’s such a delicious combo. Will make and effort to try something else next time but can’t promise anything. Staff are always super gracious and kind.

Food was very tasty and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend the Lamb Madras. The only negative was that the air conditioning system in the restaurant is awful; it essentially blows very cold air at one particular spot (you will be freezing if you are unfortunate enough to be seated here), whilst the rest of the restaurant remains quite hot in the summer.

Excellent cuisine, the chefs at Vijay will shower you with raw Indian deliciousness. Expect a tiny bit of waiting after ordering at peak hours, but well worth the wait.

The food is up to the hype. The Lamb Masala was the best Indian food I’ve ever had. The other dishes were also amazing. The staff were friendly and the place was very clean. Absolutely faultless, 10/10.

We were visiting friends in the area and decided to go here based on reviews. As South Indians, Vijay really hit the spot - the parota, masala vadai, poori aloo, and rasam in particular were spot on, while the upma and dosa were decent. We were surprised to find the restaurant fairly empty on a Sunday for lunch, but plenty of takeout and delivery orders came through. Overall A+, particularly for the price. We'll be back.

Une cuisine d'Inde du Sud largement épicée ("nuclear" !) , qui a du goût; les portions sont généreuses. Le plus dur, est d'aller au bout, avec un tel niveau "spicy". Heureusement qu'il y a le "bag" pour en ramener à la maison. Nous avons aimé les crevettes "keralan prawns with mango (9,40 £) et le "mix vegetables baghi curry" (5,95 £).

Vijay has been, and still is the best food in North West London. Usually eat in, had delivery for the first time. As good as ever. Highly recommend.

Best Indian takeaway I've had in London by far. Just moved to Queens Park and a gem of a find! Friendly staff on arrival and delicious food - also very well packaged.

The dosai at the start very good, but the curry’s were just on the too spicey side to be enjoyed (and we’d ordered some pretty mild curries). The paneer dish was the best for us.

I've been eating here for about 35 years and can honestly say that I've never had a bad meal. Delicious south Indian cuisine, freshly cooked with quality ingredients. The ceiling is cleverly designed to be reminiscent of a Keralan house, which I love.

I am so glad we have a good south Indian restaurant near by that makes good Tamil and Kerala style dishes. Their medu vada is also good and tasted fresh and crisp after being packed and delivered. Their biryani is pretty nice. Their Kerala porotta and Kerala pepper chicken are very good. All their items are decently priced too. I only have a picture of their biryani to share but can say the food is good enough that we have ordered from Vijay twice.

When we were in London, we wanted to try an authenic indian cuisine experience, away from the fuss (and inflated prices) of Central London. This was as real as it gets: delicious, unpretentious, generous dishes. Full of locals that seemed really happy to be there. All in all, a great discovery.

Really delicious and affordable Indian cuisine with great service. We got the chicken biryani, butter paneer masala, and dal and highly enjoyed it all. Great place to go with a group so you can try a variety of dishes.

My family has always ordered takeaway from this neighbourhood, family owned homely restaurant, but 13 of us ( including young children) ate in the restaurant this time. As always... delicious food, with very efficient, welcoming staff. So much food that a few of us ( took home doggie bags ) enjoyed a further night, at home!! Highly recommended!!
