Vigilant Inn in South Tyneside

Live music on Sundays. Good range of beers, rums, whiskies all at decent prices. Bar staff very friendly. Lounge bar had several TV's for watching sports. Ring bell for service.

Watched a few bands there. Beer is great. Staff are nice. Fun little live venue. They have a lot of different bands on every Sunday.

Fabulous carvery, great friendly servicr

Called in for a drink and to shelter from the rain. Recalled I had a free drink via Nationwide Pub Fortnight, and showed this to barmaid. Refused to accept this as ‘ just back from a week off, and knew nowt about it, would have to speak to owner who wasn’t available ‘ Apparently this initiative is supposed to ‘Celebrate your local pub’ and encourage communities to support an ever decreasing population. Well, The Vigilante failed on both counts ; I’ll not be Visiting them any time soon.

Went for Sunday lunch. Was very nice, great selection of veg to choose from and the meat just broke apart. Definitely be returning. 5*

We visited for Sunday lunch but we were not impressed. Choice of veg not good and it looked like it had been sat there all day. Not many people in that day, so no atmosphere in the place. Overall, a bit disappointing. There are other places serving better Sunday lunches nearby.

Lovely staff comfy feel to the bar

Three stars is too much but it deserves more than a two. Usual beer choice, haven't had a meal but looks like standard meat and boiled veg. Good sun trap out front.

Carvery was amazing, (home cooked) lovely and friendly staff and a great atmosphere in the pub.

It's our second week running of using the Vigilant's take away Sunday lunch. If this keeps up I cannot see my wife doing a Sunday lunch any time soon. The Lady who carves is excellent, she even took the time to check the stuffing for chestnuts as an ingredient, (my daughter has an allergy). The meat was beautiful as were the vegetables and gravy. All in All this was an excellent meal and all three of us are contented. thank you

Fabulous Sunday lunch... plenty meat, lots of veg choice.. homemade Yorkshire puddings. Deffo get yr money's worth.. would definitely visit again & recommend.

Just started going to the Vig on a Sunday night. Great atmosphere with a live band from 7.00pm. Usually bluesy rock. Superb beers as well. Does food as well.

Thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Great beer, service and customers friendly. Live music on Sunday afternoons. Saw a fine band called the Dancers who come from Shields. Great show and tremendous playing. The audience loved it and made a great atmosphere.

This place is awesome for a really good night out and best thing is you can go for sunday lunch and its amazing 100 % enjoyed it the staff are awesome to well recomended

You will be hard pushed to find a better carvery in South Shields at the minute been to a few places and the last two times I have been here it's been spot on! Only let down is they don't have lamb but apart from that very good.

Very reasonable carvery style Sunday lunch. Staff were pleasant, and served a good pint to wash it all down.

My food was good but others seem to think theirs was cold. Service was good. Not overpriced but selection was limited maybe due to late time 1330 hrs

Mi esposa y yo no visite este estupendo pueblo tan a menudo como deberíamos. Fuimos una semana a mediados de asados (miércoles). Horas de asados es de 12 pm hasta las 4 pm. Recibidos calurosamente y nos decidimos por un plato grande de ternera con brotes de cada guisantes puré de patatas y zanahorias y asado el mayor pudding de yorkshire que he visto. Regados con una pinta de refresco cada uno (aunque buena selección de cervezas lager). Una buena mezcla de música y canciones modernas. oldies A bajo volumen. Niños bienvenidos y buen acceso. Definitivamente lo recomendaría a cualquiera que quiera una buena casa vieja rotisería recién cocinado en un pub de pueblo.

Recuerdo este lugar desde mi juventud, y no tenía una gran reputación. Aparecimos como otro bar en el pueblo había acabado de Coors. Nos fastidió luego nos quedamos encantados porque nos hicimos. Lugar encantador, excelente selección de barril. Las cosas buenas acerca de la comida oído demasiado.

Good traditional pub.Good ales They do pub food but I haven't eaten in the vigilant .However it was very busy on the food section !!!It's a bit out of the town in Harton village but it has plenty of public transport stopping just across the road .Does nice selection of ales and wines .Defo going back .
