Have called in here with family for lunch for a few weeks now and although there are gluten free and vegetarian options on the menu there is nothing on the menu for Vegans. I have only been able to have a piece of Vegan cake or a pre packed snack bar for my lunch. Very disappointing & unfair if other diets are being catered for!

Coffee is so so, UK standard. But the staff care, the menu is varied and good value and that deserves a recommendation. The food that I've had has always been decent.

Web site says closes at 5pm cafe had half the tables with customers in them but at 3 50pm we were turned away by the kids behind the counter saying they are closed?? I will spend my money elsewhere

MIid walk mini breakfast of eggs benedict and coffee. Quick pleasant service. Great taste, perfect coffee, certainly ticked all of the right boxes. Oh and beautiful view over the park lake through the floor to ceiling windows.

A visit to the South Marine Park is not complete without a bite to eat and a cup of tea or coffee. I enjoyed a very welcome and tasty cheese toasty and pot of tea at Minchella's which is situated in the park.The name of Minchella is synonymous with South Shields and has been for many years. When I attended South Shields Marine and Technical College in 1959/60, I used to frequent the ice cream parlour on Ocean Road. The old Marine School was nearby and used used then for the teaching of GCE Maths and Physics. The ice cream parlour offered a welcome respite from these disciplines!!

There is no other place as great as Minchellas. Great coffee, great service, great locations and food that's off the charts.

Lovely little place next to the pond plenty of tables to sit great atmosphere food was amazing only thing that let it down was my wife wasn’t finished her food and the waitress came over just started taking plates and cups putting her arms over the table over my wife’s plate well she’s still eating witch put her off her food and then decided to put a hot tea pot on the tray witch my son was sitting next to and he could have touched it and really burnt his self other then that was great

I took my son for an ice cream on Thursday at the take away section and ordered him a small tub of ice cream with a flake. This cost me £3 !!!!! It was a very small tub and I was absolutely shocked at the price…..how can they justify charging £3 for a small tub. I normally go at least once a week inside for a cuppa and tea cake and my parents often go for food and that isn’t as steep as the ice cream. We will all be boycotting this place from now on ! My advice go to the fair for your ice creams :)

Love a trip to our local Minchellas but unfortunately the service this weekend has been awful, one lady behind the counter just barking at people and rushing people to place their orders. We visited on Saturday and Sunday and spent a considerable amount but I'll be going further up the coast for our ice cream treats in future!

Frosty morning walk,was very pleased that Minchella's was open. One toasted teacake and mocha later, served by smiling staff, I was ready to face the cold. Café was busy but not full, dog walkers sitting outside, which I prefer

Hello, Yesterday I visited the cafe in South Shields park. I had two young children with me, one of which is baby that I was breastfeeding. I was sat at a table out side with my toddler while feeding my baby. As breastfeeding makes me thirsty I do normally get myself some water before I start, however with a hungry baby I just sat down and stared feeding him and forgot the water. I asked a member of staff (curly purple/brown hair and glasses) if I could get some water and she told me to wait in the que. I understand it might not be table service but in some circumstances I think it would be acceptable to take a breastfeeding mother some tap water. I could hear her telling a colleague and laughing. We had also asked if I could get my daughter and my water bottles refilled with tap water, I was informed that they didn’t do that and I could purchase some for £1.20. The main reason I wanted it refilling is to save on plastic. Lovely icecream though.

Stopped in for a brunch. We are a family of 4. Bacon sandwich with extras x2, sausage sandwich and a veg panini. Really low quality produce. Greasy. Slopped together. None of us got close to eating all our food. £30+ with drinks. Worse food we've had in the North East. And we've been all over.

Drawn in here by the tasty looking desserts on offer. It was fairly quiet but soon filled up. Plenty of tables inside and also plenty of staff. We got cheesecake and cream jam scone. Both of which were lovely. No idea what the meals are like though. The cafe has a nice setting within the south marine park, opposite the lake.

One Scrambled egg on brown toast, one egg muffin with bacon and tomato, Orange juice and decaff coffee, water for dog. Superb service and great value in the peace of a beautiful park.

We called in for a takeaway breakfast. Reasonable pricing and fresh, tasty food with a good range on the menu. Will definitely be back again soon!

Minchellas have run ice cream shops in South Shields for decades and is renowned for its lovely ice cream. The cafe is smart and functional and is right at the entrance to a popular Victorian built park with a pond,ducks and geese, boats and two large play parks, one for younger and one for older children. At the right hand side is an attached kiosk serving ice creams, lollies, drinks and cakes. Seating is available but it does get busy. Luckily I wanted a takeaway coffee only so there was no queue. The cost was reasonable at £1.70 for a large coffee and although not the best coffee I’ve had it was pleasant enough as was the staff member who served me. Very busy as people took advantage of pre tier 3 lockdown

Lady with the short hair was rude. Didn’t acknowledge us and was laughing with someone else whilst being just rude. The drinks we ordered were luke warm and didn’t seem to be what we ordered.

Whilst staying over in Newcastle visiting family for the weekend we visited this popular cafe-come-ice parlour in the park which overlooks the boating pond. After a family member boasted about the best ice cream in the world was to be found in her hometown of South Shields. Guess what following our lunch at Coleman’s and a bit persuasion we popped in for coffee and ice cream just to test out her claims. There’s a wide selection of ice cream and I must admit what we selected was so so so good……. creamy, smooth and delicious. To be honest when I visit restaurants I normally end up with a simple vanilla ice cream and rate that restaurant on that ice cream, I must admit I found Minchella’s ice cream up there at the top! Of course you can eat there, they do have a good cafe type menu and selection. What a wonderful experience, the staff are amazing, they worked non-stop and such team work, I believe understaffed, the place was heaving, even for a winter's day. So beware you may have to wait for your coffee as they only have one machine, however it’s well worth the wait for the ice cream.

2 teas, water, coke & Ribena, not a difficult order, but you’d think I’d asked for the world. Attitude of server quite negative and not at all friendly. Not sure if she was just tired, but wished I hadn’t bothered.

My wife and a friend visited this place....ordered milk shakes and hotdogs....milk maybe milk shake never.....hot dog a measly size sausage in a bun no onion or any dressing..very poor value and very disappointing...you are not living up to your family’s history in the town.

A rather classy establishment as far as cafes go. Spotlessly clean with great views of the park, pond and miniature railway. Well run and friendly, well priced, food always tasty and fresh

Called in for a coffee as it was a nice sunny day.The cafe overlooks the boating lake in the park so great views.If I'm honest the latte was very weak but still OK.We both opted for the fajita wrap from the extensive menu and it arrived quickly and piping hot.Good quality food and didn't feel ripped off at the pirice so recommend.

Its a Michellas so great ice cream , but thats only a part of it, theres snacks, cakes and great tea and coffee. All great value and easliy accessible from the seafront in a a sleek modern building. Visit this place every time in Shields.

This is the branch of Minchella's serving the beach, not the one in the centre of South Shields. We used the wrong post code for the sat nav without realising that there are two outlets. Anyway the ice cream is excellent, though one of our party was disappointed in the knickerbockerglory which was mainly jelly.

I have visited this Minchella’s several times over the Easter holidays with family - young children and friends. It’s always busy! Which is a good sign but service is excellent, efficient, friendly and always a good choice.I stuck with simple toastie- cheese and onion but it always presented well with salad . They do have a good range of sandwiches and panini sandwiches also as well as jacket potatoes with good range of filling. Children’s meals are also available. The only problem is getting a table! Being is the park is a lovely location- and great tasting ice cream too! Highly recommend if your ever in South Shields town centre!

We arrived here as we were visiting and weren’t very familiar with the area. Having been turned away from another coffee shop nearby because we hadn’t booked. The cafe is clean and bright we a lovely menu with daily specials. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was lovely, portion size was perfect and the cakes were fantastic. Good value for money. There is nearby parking on the roads adjacent (pay and display) or free parking if you want to walk. Great with kids and I imagine oils be busy when the weather is nice.

Me and my friend went here for a quick lunch at half term - despite it being fairly busy we received our orders really quickly (a cheese and onion toastie and an egg muffin with mushrooms). The muffin was delicious, with the bread really fresh and the egg cooked perfectly. It was good value for money and the only slight downfall was the tables which could have done with a bit of a clean, but we weren't too fussy about that.

Myself and my boyfriend visit regularly on our early morning walks, and it's great. Excellent coffee and cakes, friendly and helpful staff, perfect location overlooking the lake, and a relaxed atmosphere. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Was advised by a local to visit this establishment as the ice cream was top class. Well i was not disappointed we had strawberries and cream the ice cream was lovely and creamy you could really taste the difference. Get there as early as possible as the place gets very busy from around 11 am onwards. Try the toasties and coffees as well all very good value for money with very good and attentive staff who also work hard keeping the place clean and tidy. The only thing i found of poor quality was the coke it is very watery with little taste

Been here today with my grandson as he had a teacher training day at school I had a latte and he had cookie dough cheesecake which looked amazing he ate all of it the place is immaculate and staff were friendly and helpful will be back

Lovely modern cafe in the park . You can sit inside or out, plus it has a convenient take away window. The food is reasonably priced and tasty. They do a good value coffee and cake deal with cream or ice cream for under five pounds which is excellent. Recommend

This cafe is excellent location for a coffee mid walk and a bite to each. The food was lovely and came very VERY fast but didn’t taste like it had been sat there. The jacket potatoes would have been even better if the cheese was melted though! The service was good and all staff seemed happy. It was quite busy even though middle of the day so clearly popular. Didn’t have an ice cream but they looked excellent! Great for families

We stopped here for coffee on a Saturday afternoon whilst visiting South shields. Lovely cafe with plenty of seating inside and out. Pleasant staff. We ordered coffee and ice cream. Not badly priced at all. Meals looked reasonable too. We will definitely return.

A lovely visit to Marine park today. Wouldn’t be complete without ice creams from Minchella. Lots of people were using the hatch for convenience, but lots were also having coffee, cakes and snacks for elevenses. Lovely stuff.

we visit this café at least twice a month or more and spent about £30 to £50 per month even through the winter months and did this for the last 21/2 years with our granddaughter and now granddaughters. On Sunday 11th march 2018 like normal me my wife and grandchildren went for a meal and ice cream we waited for a seat inside when we sat down my wife asked a young girl if it would be possible if they could make one scrambled egg and a piece of toast for our youngest granddaughter who is only 10 months old and the rest of us having a meal each but she was busy so she asked the older woman who always stands at the till staring at everyone (people know who she is ?) this staff member said I would have to ask the chef if it would be ok but when she stood in front of my wife and the chef she asked him but while asking him she stood shaking her head saying no so the poor chef could not say anything but my wife seen it all and said to the woman it does not matter as I have just watched you telling the chef no. this was so degrading as we waited for a seat sat down with the grandchildren then had to leave because this most ignorant horrible person refused to serve a 10 month old baby with scrambled egg my money not good enough now WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER THING FROM MINCHELLAS. but I would like to add we went to SMITHS CAFE/FISH BAR in the fair ground and they served us no problems at all food and service including staff was excellent and it was at cheaper and cleaner

Today I brought a class of 10, year 3 children from a local special needs school to Minchellas for a taste of their fantastic ice cream. I called ahead to ensure this would be fine and they couldn’t have been anymore accommodating! We had a fabulous afternoon enjoying some well deserved treats with the wonderful view of the park and the staff were amazing, saving us space for our arrival and being incredibly helpful during our visit. It is easy to understand why Minchella’s is so successful with such support of the community and the young individuals who access it. Thank you again for an amazing visit!!

Stopped here for coffee and breakfast. Staff were ok but too busy gossiping to be interested in paying proper attention to customers. However this place is always busy and the food and drinks are nice. Good value too.

Stopped off for a cuppa before our walk along the beach nice pot of tea each fo me and my mum and we shared a cheese and ham toastie which was delicious! My niece had a small cornet with sprinkles and red sauce and devoured every bit! You cant beat minchellas ice cream!

Went in on sunday for the usual coffee and ice cream for the grand children usual high standard only complaint is the lack of high chairs there was only three which on this day was two less than required. Come on if you want families with young children under three provide more high chairs.

Really packed out on the easter holidays. Understandably so since there is never a compromise on quality. Both the service and the food are always fantastic. Best ice cream ever! I have lived in South Shields all my life and have always enjoyed a minchellas. Has made me very picky when it comes to ice cream. Love it!!!!!!

called in for lunch with family during a visit back home. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon so very busy but staff coped very well, cleaning tables taking orders and serving food promptly.There was a good selection on the menu with a variety of fillings for sandwiches, paninis and jacket potatoes as well as salads.The chicken and bacon panini was very good and very filling and the vegetarian roasted peppers panini was also a hit.The design of the building allowed those inside to still enjoy people watching at the side of the lake and enjoying the train.

Good range of light meals in pleasant surroundings. The restaurant has large windows with good views of the park, lake and miniature train ride. Food is good quality and served quickly.

Three adults and one baby went for lunch. We got a seat no bother and settled the baby in a high chair. My sister had a chicken and bacon panini which looked lovely. My mam and I both had quiche which was mushroom and red onion today. It was a bit watery but I half expected that when it had mushrooms in. Nice coleslaw and salad on the side. My sister and I each had a chocolate nut sundae for dessert and they were delicious. My mam had a toasted tea cake with jam. Mam said hers was lovely and you could smell the cinamon which she loves. Staff were polite and helpful which I have always found to be the case. It's a lovely spot in the park and the whole area has many family memories for us so it's great to have somewhere to stop, eat and reminisce.

Been to this cafe so many times, staff great, hard working, food good, service with a smile in a great location. Some reviews above are obviously from the Britain on Benefits crowd who want something for nothing. Choosing to insult the staff and is just pathetic when the vast majority of people respect the hard work that they are doing. To all those benefit people who chose to make these redicilas comments, get a life. You are just showing everyone on here what a very sad life you lead. Sado's :)

Really nice service and attitude of staff, being fairly regular visitors our order is ready and waiting for us on entry to the premises must see us approaching. Cannot beat Minchellas ice cream. The venue is always spotless due to the diligence of staff, highly recommended.

Visited today with family,food was ok but pricey. However the attitude of the staff leaves a lot to be desired.Quite unpleasant and one girl more concerned that her hair was going to get wet serving someone outside than service to the customers! A course in customer care would not go amiss ! Won't be going back there!

Came here with my daughter wife and mother in law staff are chavvy ignoramus rude and ignorant!!! Never received such a low standard of service, one staff member refused to come outside with our food in case she got her ridiculous "coke can" fringe wet, straight from the job centre these lot mind a disgrace to such a nice ice cream company like minchellas will not be going back here, some of them were standing and staring at us when we walked in, very uncomfortable atmosphere, maybe it's because we were polite and nice unlike themselves...... DISGRACE
