Very tasty Sunday roast will return

Ordered 2 take away lunches. Have done this several times. Our previous order had rock hard vegetables which were inedible. We thought this was a one off as usually okay. Today however same problem I literally couldn’t cut the broccoli or cauliflower it was so hard. That will be our last visit time to try elsewhere. Very disappointed.

WHAT HAS HAPPENED TOO THIS PLACE..SHOCKING... Just been there with a friend, he ordered sliders and I had the chicken curry. His sliders were so dry hardly any cheese on buns so,so dry and burgers looked like they were defrosted and both from a bargain shop..He was not Happy... :/ I had chicken curry and It looked like is had been watered down and was just poured onto the plate, the Chicken was over cooked and rubbery, too be honest everything looked like a boil in the bag or 3 min chef...Microwave...in hindsight I should have refused the meal, also a tiny piece of pita bread I told the waitress but they did not care Absolutely Shocking Food Service and 1000% we will not be returning and what a shame as the place used too be Great -10 for sure.

I've written this review to make others aware of my own experience so they know the substandard customer service of this place. My partner ordered 2 Sunday Dinners and was told by the member of staff that they'd be delivered between 5.30pm-6pm. However, the food still hadn't arrived by 6.15pm so I decided to ring them up and complain and ask to be recompensed in some way but the member of staff was adamant that we couldn't have been told this time as this isn't the restaurants policy to state a time less than 1 hour for delivery, so in effect calling my partner a liar. When I challenged the member of staff with this they just continued to state that all they could do is have us wait for the dinners to turn up and was completely dismissive about this being their mistake and therefore their fault. The level of service and attitude was both appalling and disgraceful and I'll never use this place again.

Not impressed with visit today, staff are very rude and ignorant. Don’t think I seen one of them smile. Felt like they were rushing us out, asked to pay for my bill separate was told you had to pay all together so you will have to work it out and slammed receipt at me on counter. Staff need to learn some manners. Will not be returning, shame because the food was lovely!

Our regular restaurant to take friends and family over last 20 years. Why? Reliable food, large diverse range of meals and local to us in Jarrow. No hesitation in recommending it.

Well, what a fantastic night last night. I had a table of 8 book for my 60th birthday with my brothers from down south and great friends as well. The food was out of this world the service from the young ladies, thank you so much... sorry if we was to loud last night. Had a lovely night. And sorry again, no photos.

I went to Bar Blu Bistro twice, it was that good. Food, Service & Location were excellent. Prices reasonable. Going back so see you soon.

The first time I've been here I will definitely go back again .

Always had nice food here before but today found staff to be uninterested, got given one sausage for my child which I don’t think is enough and had asked and they had said you get two, we never got our veg , fries overdone. When I said I wasn’t happy they said they hadn’t charged me for the veg, well I’d never had it anyway! They implied I had cancelled it but that was cos I hadn’t had it during my meal. Bad service

where the hells my dinners paid for its now after five o clock

Took 15 minutes for my wife’s martini expresso and it wasn’t the best, my cocktail came 5 mins after my wife’s and when I asked why have been waiting a while for 2 drinks her response was I had a few things to do bearing in mind the place was dead. I payed my wife’s cocktail which was £8.50 and my wife had 2 sips of it as it was that bad. We said we were not prepared to take the risk waiting for food.

Came here for food and drink 2pm Tuesday afternoon. 3 other tables occupied, almost empty which suited us. However we waited 15 mins for one cocktail and another 5 mins for another. When asked why was told “I had a few things to do” cocktail was weak, could barely taste the coffee, didn’t bother drinking it . Walked out and didn’t bother ordering food. 20 mins for your first drink order in an empty bar? Really?

Booked a table for myself my partner and son. The place was empty apart from two people with a young child. We were shoved in the corner at the back of the restaurant. The girls taking our drinks orders and food orders were lovely. Food came out within a matter of minutes of ordering and could tell our carbonaras were microwaved and not freshly made. Ours sons pizza was ok but all of our chips were forgot about so mentioned this to the girl behind the bar so they were brought out when we were nearly finished our meals ( which were in a little pot containing about 6 chips.) For £60 odd we weren’t too impressed and probably won’t be back. Which is a shame as it always used to be lovey.

Midweek dinner, the food was excellent. The staff were attentive and friendly. Loved 😍 it.

Went for a friends party the barstaff are shocking they need to learn some manners they were pushing between people instead of saying excuse me chucking plates down on table spilt a drink never said sorry and we had to ask for a cloth to dry table food was nice but had to ask if they had any parmazan as wasent given any she brought some back to us and again chucked it on table with attitude won't be going back we were seated on two separate areas instead of together wasent even busy in there

I had no stuffing on same meal I had pervious so I asked about it. Got some straight away but later saw was charged on bill for something that was missing anyway??? Bad that. These little things can really damage when ppl cheapen tnemsleves.

Love the fillet steak with blue cheese sauce I get it every Sunday and it sometimes stretches to 2 meals

Just recieved my order, this is the mince and dumplings, and calizone pizza. Came stone cold, after phoning up to complain, i was told this is how its been served all day with no complaintes!!! She then expected me to return it myself so they could look at it after payin for delivery. Wot a joke, no appology either. Rest assured we wont be ordering from here again, complete joke....

….. and the first for my hubby. We’d managed to book an early table for 4 adults and a toddler on the proviso we knew the table was booked for half one. This was plenty of time as we only ordered main meals and the delivery of meals was really quick. Staff were smart, attentive and well organised. It would have been nice to have had a check back during our meal. 3 beef, 1 lamb and Childs sausage and fries were ordered. Meat and veg were plentiful and tasty. Decor is very nice and it is a very popular place to go too despite the parking being limited

As usual brutally honest .been here a few times now and everytime .food superb.service from the girls brilliant. I've searched to find muck or dust or cobweb I can't indicate to me very high standard of cleanliness. Give it a try you won't be disappointed

Very disappointed with Sunday Lunch, Everything was cold, we paid extra for 3 different kinds of meat and portion size was disgusting Staff were very unhelpful and have no customer service. Prices what they charge and what you got is absolutely shocking We will never go back

Chicken came out raw!! Girl at time apologised and took it away. No mention if they were doing a new one or cooking the original one properly. Wasnt busy but waited about 10 minutes before it came back out which meant my meal was barely warm. Got the bill no final apology or a discount for the inconvenience. FYI the whole idea of eating out is that your eating your food all together not eating cold food because youve had to wait for a meal coming back out or eating while one person isnt. Last two times weve been here the food has gone down hill, needless to say we wont be going back.

Nice enough eatery, pity about the overpriced disappointing food. lasagne was disgusting! Has the chef ever tasted a genuine Italian lasagne? It’s one of Italy’s most delicious dishes.

Sunday dinners are immense highly recommend

Having booked a table on Friday for Sunday only to be told we had to vacate the table after 40 mins after we sat down we were not told this when we were seated the waitress said you must have been a walk in and people are waiting for your table we were not walk ins had we ordered another round of drinks we would have refused to rush them poor customer service

Lovely Sunday roast, the meat was delicious. No fuss to get us a table. The overall atmosphere was good but unfortunately we were sat next to a very loud group who just became worse as time went on. Would definitely return to try other food from the menu

Went for Sunday dinner and ordered the 3 mest roast. I can definitely recommend here for dinner. The food was gorgeous and hot and the service was great. Hadn't booked a table but only waiting about 10 mins.

Visiting family from Oz and cane here for lunch. Did not have a booking, but they squeezed us in, thank you for this. Meal was awesome and staff were great. Highly recommend to try if not already. 😊

Last time we came had a very bad experince. Thought we would give it another go today for sunday lunch 15/10/23 the staff are clueless.....got a table then when we were settled told we had 40 mins to eat meal !!! As the table was needed. Walked out never again !!!!

Over priced microwaved food, had twice as good for half the price, not impressed at all.

We’d been told great things about Blue Bistro (previously Bar Blue and decades ago The Lord Clyde). The restaurant sits just outside of the main town centre. Parking can be difficult and the inside is quite small (although its space has been used to the max, so you’re sitting in a cosy place as opposed to a soulless chain pub). Myself, son and toddler ordered Sunday dinner and I ordered a takeaway steak pie and veg for grandad at home. The adults had 3 meats, our toddler had chicken and got loads. All meals were excellent, staff attentive and the restaurant was still very busy after 5 when we left (people ordering takeaways and having a drink at the bar). Possible gripe was we were seated in a drafty area but we certainly would go again despite this. Maybes grumpy grandad will go too. Prices are mid level but worth the price. We booked in advance as it was very busy

Passed this place a few times thought I would try it. Honestly terrible very pòor quality. Something not right when they serve you courses within minutes. Charged £3.90 for a side of Jalapenos which equated to 20 Jalapeno slices in a little cup even the waitress agreed and laughed. Wont go back

Honestly one of the worst roast dinners I’ve had. Veggies microwaved to within an inch of their lives. Chicken so dry as well. I would say avoid eating here if you have a choice. £85 for 4 dinners and starters was pricey for the food on offer. The calamari and Bruschetta were so poor and rushed. Really disappointed with everything about our visit

I had the Sunday dinner today. Not very pleased. I have had one before and it was lovely. The amount of vegetables was non existing. Al Dante taken to the extreme. Rock hard. Because the dinner was hot but the lid was on the Yorkshire pudding was just that. A pudding. I couldn't cut it so had to pull it apart. The meat was cooked to perfection and the guy who delivered it was lovely. I'm sorry i won't be ordering again . £15 99 including delivery i would happily pay again if the dinner was good. Sorry . 9 of us went for a Father's day treat. The Lamb Shank with mash and veg was gorgeous. Everyone enjoyed their meals no matter what they had. I would highly recommend Bar Blue Bistro.

Massive portions and beautifuly cooked

Lovely staff, awfull food. Had lasagne today and was luke warm and bland. The food here used to be lovely but it has gone downhill.

We visited on a Saturday tea time. Our plans for the day had changed so we didn’t have a booking. We received a very nice welcome and sat in the lounge are and enjoyed a few drinks while we waited for the rest of our party arrived. The selection of drinks was very good and the cocktails were made to perfection especially the long island iced tea which I highly recommend! We ordered a variety of plates to share. The food was hot and tasty and the service was great. We will definitely visit again.

Lovely food lovely atmosphere and brilliant service

Appalling service to be told after waiting 20 minutes that they didn’t have our booking which was actually made 6 weeks ago to ensure availability for Mother’s Day. No apology whatsoever and we were actually told we should have called them 48 hours before to check they had our booking ! Needless to say we will NEVER be back! Even more frustrating when another customer said same thing happened to her a few weeks ago! Shane on you bar blue !

After waiting an age, even though the restaurant was only half full, the food that arrived was sub-par to be generous. The lamb did not resemble meat of any description. When ordering more drinks, the barmaid decided that we’d just have to take what she was giving. No discussion. When the said drink was returned, she came to the table and aggressively started arguing with my elderly mother. Considering this was Mother’s Day, my mother became distressed. Eventually she left our table leaving us all unable to eat due to the confrontation. When I went to the bar to complain, the barmaid would not let me speak. She said the reason why she wouldn’t let me speak was because “all you’re going to do is complain”. Disgraceful! At that point I informed her we were leaving. She said if we didn’t pay, she’d call the police! I encouraged her to do so. At this point the owner came over and started to discuss the situation calmly. When the barmaid returned she kept interrupting with accusations and name calling. We left, and will certainly not be returning! Completely unprofessional. Disgusting attitude and behaviour.

On entering the bistro, there was a greasy extractor smell (and I was aware of it, when we left). I think a lot of the food on our ‘sizzling steak platter’, seemed to have originated from the freezer. For example, onion rings, Tempura prawns, garlic bread, potato wedges, pre-frozen smooth mash. The spicy chicken wings were probably bought in: (not home-made in house). So nothing special, I’m afraid; although, the waitress was very friendly and attentive, but she forgot serving cutlery, so we had to use our knives and forks. (No big deal). Ambient rather than dance background music would have been more appreciated…

Visited a couple times now, always excellent, friendly service. Great for Sunday Roast, came quite quickly but was still good quality and taste -hard to fault. Normal menu I was a bit disappointed with the portion size of the calarmi but the crispy pork belly was great. Not the best selection of lagers/ales but a nice pint of what they do have on offer. Reasonably priced. Good atmosphere on a weekend within the establishment. Will be visiting again.

Visited for the first time tonight for my wife's birthday. Everything was ten out of ten. Excellent service from our waitresses, friendly and professional. Massive selection on the menu (how many restaurants have 4 soups of he day?) and the food was delicious. Excellent layout, even the toilets were immaculate. Thanks very much, we really enjoyed our evening and will definitely return.

Me and my girlfriend ordered the Sunday roast dinner. What can we say about it from first to last bite was the best sunday roast dinner we ever had and what a great size meal we are so coming back to here again and next time we will eat in. Sunday lunch at Bar Blue was amazing. Great service from pleasant staff and the roast meats were melt in the mouth! Accompanied by excellent Yorkshire pudding and great tasty selection of vegetables mashed and roast potatoes, parsnip, carrots, turnip, cabbage and broccoli, we were well satisfied. Recommend you book your table as it was quite busy early on

Walk in Saturday night date night, we where looking for somewhere to eat having not booked we walked in and where greeted with a welcoming entrance and shown to a available table. The menu selection is very broad with a variety or starters, pasta dishes, steaks, grilled selection, pizza’s you name it they have it. We opted for the steak for 2 option which at £25 offers amazing value the taste was amazing offering a good blend of flavour (warning the wings are slightly hot but not unbearable) Large selection of drinks with a good selection of beers and wines. Amazing service and quality food will be returning.

Sunday lunch was amazing but the background music was naff as it was our works Christmas night out.

We were treated to a lovely meal by our nephew at Bar Blue after a recommendation. We were very impressed with the meal, drinks, setting, service and Bill. We were spoilt for choice but opted for steak and ale pie, belly pork and sticky Toffee pud for dessert, all delicious and good portion size, 5 drinks made the bill £90!! Great value. Convenient venue, nearby to us with good parking. Definitely be back. A great sociable atmosphere, well recommended. Peter White

Steaks are amazing and their chunky chips

On Sunday my friends and I visited this restaurant for Sunday lunch, with our children. We have thoroughly enjoyed our previous visits to this restaurant however this time I cannot say the same, Due to the long wait for food our children became unsettled, Children are children and can become unsettled at any time, which cannot always be controlled. With best efforts we were unable to settle the children as they were hungry and becoming impatient. A member of staff approached the table with an abrupt manner and demanded that we must stop our children from crying, any parent knows this is easier said than done! Therefore we left the restaurant immediately. No parent should be subjected to this type of humiliation or lack or support and understanding, I would like to suggest trying to provide your guests with colouring activities for the children to maybe calm them down next time. Unfortunately due to this incident we will not be returning, hopefully your interaction with families with children can improve for the sake of your restaurant

We tried this place following recommendation and travelled from Durham .. We had booked but we were a tad late due to traffic.. that wasn't a problem.. Beautiful setting..loved the colour scheme.. Just moved to the north east and wanted somewhere to celebrate my husbands birthday, bar blue bistro was recommended by a family member. Booked the day before,so glad i did as when we arrived it was very busy and were turning people away, shown to our table and left to browse an amazing menu, loads of different choices.
