Terrible place, very rude staff. No choice. I got a toasted currant tea cake and it had a very long blonde hair on it. When I showed the girl assistant she just said “oh yes and took it off and walked off”! I was shocked and flabbergasted. No sorry, no take it away and replace. I was so shocked then my cup of tea arrived 10 minutes after the toasted currant tea cake. Horrible service and very curt. Certainly will not be going again. Very pricey for bad food, bad service and dark dingy place. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

We came here for a late lunch after going to the park with friends, my son ordered the Victoria breakfast, and I had the vegetarian breakfast. The rooms for this delightful place are down some iron spiral stairs, and we were greated by the very friendly staff, and seated straight away. Our order was quickly taken, and the food was delivered in good time. And the food itself was lovely, everything was cooked to perfection, and of a good quality. The bacon on my sons plate was thick and tasty, and the sausages were a very good quality. And the eggs were perfectly dippy. The cost of the food was par for what we ordered. And we will definitely be going again. This place gets ten out of ten would recommend to a friend. Perfect for a quick bite with friends and family

Early morning Breakfast whilst waiting for the Salt Mills to open. Dining room very cold, food was plentiful and cooked well ... however all our toast came ready covered in a very greasy spread . For a little extra cost why oh why scrimp on butter.... or even give us a choice!

With spring in the air we decided to explore Saltaire. Before getting the train home we took a detour in the tearoom for a drink and a cake. We finally decided on a cream tea. It was delicious, warm home made scone, lashings of strawberry jam and a large helping of clotted cream. The scone itself was served warm so the only thing left to decide was jam before cream or cream before jam!!!

We were in here today for lunch. We come in every time we visit Salts Mill and have always found it to have a good range of freshly cooked food, drinks and cakes. The service is welcoming without being obtrusive and the whole place is a little gem. We were particularly pleased today to find out it was the 5th anniversary of the lady taking the cafe on - she has made a success of it and we wish her every success in the future.

We came for breakfast so it was quite but the staff were friendly and welcoming. Food was good and reasonably priced. Tearoom is situated below street level in what would have been the old bake house for the shop above, the old oven door is still in place and a nice focal point.

We found the iron spiral stair case a little difficult to navigate. The tea rooms were not what we expected from the name but it was clean and the service was prompt. We ordered tea and scones. Unfortunately one of them hadn't been cooked in the middle. we received an instant apology and a replacement. The tea was good.

We called in to this tea room for a couple of drinks. As soon as we enterted we were bluntly asked if we were ordering food. I replied that I did not know because we had not yet seen their menu. We were seated and reviewed their menu. When the waitress took our drinks order she asked if we wanted any food? When we said no she announced that she would have to ask if we could just have drinks. She came back and said that she could not just serve us with drinks so we left this tea house without having anything. The waitress was very abrupt and unfriendly. We found this very strange that a tea house would not just serve drinks!

Tempted in after a walk down the canal and river and through the woods, down the spiral staircase into the low lit cellar room. Very friendly waitress service. A good variety of cakes on offer and a good range of teas. Disappointed to be charged extra as our bill was less than £10, even though we were paying cash, and we weren't table blocking patrons who wished to spend more as the place was empty other than us.

We just dropped in for tea and teacakes. The place was empty - maybe the tricky iron spiral staircase down into the cafe puts people off. Definitely not a place for people with mobility problems. Service was quick and efficient. The tea was one of the best cuppas I've had in a long time - only tea bags (though you can get leaf tea at a higher cost) but a proper flavoursome brew. The teacakes were OK, but the thing I really object to is paying more for a tiny pot of jam. Come on, jam isn't the most expensive commodity and other cafes we go to in Saltaire serve jam as routine and complimentary. There were a variety of light meals and snacks available as well as a cabinet full of cakes.

Popped into the tea rooms after walking around Salts Mill and Saltaire. We managed to find a table for two and ordered relatively easily. Unfortunately we had a long wait for our drinks and an even longer wait for the cakes that went with them, to the point that the drinks were almost finished. When a question was asked about how long the cakes would be a nonchalant reply along the lines of "well we are very busy..."was given; not my fault as a customer! This place could be so much better with more organisation and politer staff!

Terrible place. Very rude, unfriendly place. The place was nearly completely empty and I sat down at a table for four whilst waiting for my friends. Was asked to move to a table for two, even though the place was empty on what should have been a busy Saturday afternoon. Then a second member of staff asked me if I was just ordering coffee or food. I said possibly both but would wait for my friends to arrive. They very nastily and sharply declared I couldn't just order coffee. Then another teen came over to ask the same thing. Their customer service is zilch. The place upstairs is great food, friendly staff and nothing to do with the cafe downstairs.

Ok firstly the cakes are lovely and the location is great. However I can honestly say all but one of the staff are totally ignorant. Not a thank you from one of them. I've been back since and still as rude as hell. My wife went in last week unbeknown to me and couldn't wait to tell me about a cake shop she went to where the staff were obnoxious. I didn't even need to guess which one as I knew she was visiting the Hockney gallery that day.

Visited a couple of times when in Saltaire, or taking friends to see Salts Mill. Going downstairs reveals a few small tables and a simple menu. This was just across the road from Salts Mill and next to the railway station. We popped in for a couple of coffees and a ginger cake. Bustling atmosphere as lots of locals pop in for takeaway coffees etc, which meant the door was open to the cold wind a lot. A few basic Formica tables upstairs, more room down in the cellar we are told. The display and price lists behind the counter look traditional and attractive (see pic), but we discovered these were the takeaway prices, and we paid rather more than expected for the pleasure of sitting inside, e.g. £2.75 for a latte.

When we are in the area once a year, a walk beside the canal, a feed of the ducks, a drop-in to the Hockney Collection and lunch in the tearooms is one of our must dos. Finding the place can be tricky, walk up from the mill on the right hand side of the road, watch out for the “Don’t tell Titus” bar, right next door is a baker, there is a sign that I’ve copied to the pictures, a little wrought iron spiral staircase that leads down to the tea rooms. There’s always a smile of greeting, excellent soup, great Yorkshire tea with a proper jug of hot water for topping up and, recently, a Polish special on the menu! Personally I love the pie and peas, try the mint sauce with it, it’s just yummy. My wife varies between the crumpets and the teacake, both just right. If I lived in the area I’d definitely be a patron, probably best I’m not since my expanding waistline might not stand it. Drop in, enjoy!

I was eating some lunch in the bakery upstairs and like many people I'm sure I presumed this was all one business. I took my young son and my pregnant self down the spiral staircase to the toilet (or so I thought). Came out of the toilet to be confronted by 3 angry members of staff with their hands on their hips informing me very rudely that I was not to use their toilet. Absolutely disgusting behaviour. I understand I made the mistake but I'm sure I'm not the first, you do enter through one front door after all! I was shown a sign on the wall which I didn't see as I was too busy watching my footing on the narrow spiral staircase. I was made to feel like a villain in front of other diners. Maybe they are sick of telling people they are a separate business but there are ways in which to politely correct people's errors. I couldn't care less what the food is like I'm disgusted by this behaviour.

Down an iron spiral staircase is tucked this wonderful little place. Still manages to be light and welcoming even though it's in the basement. I liked the idea of keeping the old oven door (assume this was once the kitchen of the bakery above) and the old pictures on the walls of the local area as it was in years gone are worth a look. The staff were friendly and the food well cooked. Liked the idea of the traditional English breakfast being replaced by a Polish one (didn't try it but sounded good). Waitress brought paper and crayons for the children on the next table so they seem keen to keep their customers happy. Would visit here again.

Interesting to read all the reviews for this little cafe as they are very mixed. Our (myself & two children, 8 & 9) experience, I have to say, was good. We had an enjoyable lunch in the cosy basement which is accessed via an ironwork spiral staircase. There are also tables upstairs in space shared with the associated Confectioner's shop. Meals were chosen from a good value menu which includes an excellent 'soup and sandwich' deal. There is one girl that works there that's absolutely brilliant, made me a lovely drink, was incredibly pleasant, she's the bomb. If it was just her - 5 stars. Next day though there were a couple of guys there, I asked for the same drink but it was quite bad honestly, they weren't as good at providing service nor at the drink making, mind you this is evening shift, two of them and they couldn't do half of what she did by herself (two people job, because she took the order manned the till and made the drinks), and even though they remade it it was still not even close, and they only had to make one, whereas she nailed two when I was there the day before. Anyway I didn't return it a second time but for 5+ quid I was expecting a lot more, honestly, and it was disappointing that they're not up to the same standard.

We arrived a few minutes before 3pm, an hour before the advertised closing time (4pm), to be told they close at 3pm and were doing takeout only. Ordered a kids hot chocolate and a scone for £6. After they'd taken our money, we were told we couldn't use the toilet because they had mopped the floor. We were told the toilet under the stairs outside was available, but this is dirty and full of cobwebs. Open to take your money, but not provide a service. Always been a great little cafe but very disappointed today.
