We returned to The Grand last night after an extended lockdown for us, and from the minute we entered the lounge it was sheer bliss. The calm, sumptuous seating, overlooking the sea is just so wonderful for the soul. Fab service. Drank our aperitifs and just relaxed. We then decided to have a meal in the restaurant, again a beautiful room, a warm welcome from the staff, and another beautiful sea view. Food was delicious, every morsel, scallops beautifully cooked. Portion size perfect. Wine list very well chosen and the red we had was excellent. Such a blissful night.

This was a birthday present for my husband from his work colleagues which was thoroughly enjoyed by us both.Tea or coffee offered with the food and frequently re-filled, great sandwiches and the offer to exchange any we didn't like, cheese and fruit scones (with jam and cream) and a selection of cakes and desserts. All enjoyed from the best seats in the room, overlooking the stunning beach and sea. Nothing was too much effort, served by staff keen to ensure that all our needs were met with a genuine smile, thank you.

Booked the Grand Hotel for Christmas Day dinner after reading good reviews and wanting to do something different. Never again the food was awful, we paid £700 for 7 of us and it was a complete waste of money. A lot of food was sent back untouched and I had to cook my 2 teenage sons something to eat when we arrived back home. Spoilt our Christmas Day, I would not recommend at all. Complained direct to the hotel and was dissatisfied with their response.

I am fortunate enough to live within walking distance of the Grand Hotel. We have held a family wedding there, frequent Copperfields and tha Lounge regularly and had relatives stay there. We were delighted to recieve a gift voucher for the Brasserie at Christmas. We booked to use it on our anniversary. It was a Friday evening and it was somewhat of a disappointment to find only four other couples in the large dining room. To me the atmosphere was somewhat lacking. We also thought that the menu was limited for example there was only one chicken dish and after asking the waiter what it was it was a small whole chicken served hunter style not good for a partner that doesn’t like chicken on the bone. The vegetarian option were also limited. In the end we had steaks, one sirloin and one fillet. The fillet steak was very good. Although the price was at the top end I baulk at having to pay extra for a sauce and onion rings the steak itself coming with one small mushroom, half a tomato and chips. My prawn cocktail was good. The service was good if not a bit too efficient! To me if the Brasserie wants to attract other than Hotel residents in numbers it needs to make the dining room a little more intimate and perhaps look at the menu to attract younger diners, don’t have to look far we love Oras and Allards for a dining experience. Trip adviser don’t allow you to rate as good it’s either very good or average and my experience wasn’t in the very good category and I wouldn’t return unless there was a change to the menu.

My nephew sent his mother a voucher for three people to have afternoon Tea here she kindly took myself and a friend with her. The place is beautifully done out and the staff very friendly and attentive. The "tea" was wonderfully presented and they went out of their way to give me a selection of my own as I don't care for chicken or fish. Marvelous customer service. Can't rate it highly enough.

Ages since we have been to the Grand for dinner. Excellent choice of starters made it a dificult to,make a decision. The twice baked soufle, smoked haddock risotto and scallops. Our main course were again well worth it, roast cod loin, Lambs liver delicious. The whole evening was a success good food served by efficient friendly staff.

The food on the evening menu here is very good and varied,, and cooked to perfection, breakfast however is a little overpriced at £14.99 and although the Scottish breakfast (scrambled egg with salmon on a muffin) was excellent the English breakfast wasn’t up to much.,

Although I have already written a review of The Brassiere in the Grand review, it’s worth repeating here. The food is excellent and the service is great. The staff are friendly and helpful. We have eaten here often over a period of more than 10 years.

Went for Sunday lunch for a special occasion with eight people. Had high expectations as have been several times before and recently read that a new chef had improved me us etc. Starters of pate and prawn starter very good. 3 of the party had beetroot, goats cheese and walnut salad, this was varied- 1 portion fabulous but the other 2 had to look to find feta cheese and walnuts! Main courses again mixed- risotto very good as was the lamb but the beef was not succulent despite being pink and the rather large Yorkshire pudding dry and hard. The roast potatoes were pale, slightly hard and underdone Desserts were well received and the wine was good value Came away rather disappointed and expectations not met

When we arrived at the hotel the entrance was lovely and the staff friendly and helpful. We decided not to eat at the hotel that evening and instead went into tynemouth. We went down to breakfast the following morning and we were very disappointed. The buffet part of the breakfast, cereals, juice etc, was very limited there didn’t appear to be any non dairy alternatives, although I didn’t ask if there were any available. We ordered the cooked breakfast full English for my husband and vegetarian for myself. When the meals arrived they were not very appetising the full English was greasy and the bacon and sausage were both over cooked. The vegetarian was no better, the tomatoes on the plate were really not pleasant and when I mentioned this to a staff member I wasn’t even given an apology. The following morning I had poached eggs on toast, shame it was only sliced bread and not anything special and my husband ordered scrambled eggs and smoked haddock. He said the fish was lovely but there wasn’t even a garnish on the plate. Whilst the accommodation was really good, comfortable and spotless the food badly let it down, a fact that seems to be well known amongst the locals. So much could have been done to make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience in such a lovely hotel on the sea front.

I have stayed at the Grand on many occasions and enjoyed good service in every way. However, my last visit was ruined by a very rude staff member who, I think, was styled as manger of the brasserie there. The receptionist welcomed to the hotel, our care dog too and we asked main reception whether is was okay for him to join us and we were told our very clever, very well behaved dog was welcome. The very rude staff member we met in the Brasserie told us the dog wasn’t welcome and we must remove to the pub at the back of the hotel. I have visited the hotel many times before and stayed there with my care dog who was always welcomed with warmth by the staff. The Brasserie staff member told us three times, interupting our lunch on each occasions to tell us the hotels policy was a bit much after I’d stayed before on several occasions with no mentioned made of their policy. She lacked sensitivity toward the disabled, no, towards anybody. She lacked courtesy and good manners sometime We have always enjoyed at the Grand. The manager responded to my e-mail of complaint by ignoring the true nature of my complaint but explained how he had consulted the web regarding care dogs. So, it seems his hotels policy on the matter of care dogs was explored when a complaint was made. Remember, I had stayed many times before with no mention of my dog being unwelcome. My dog cam certainly is and has aways demonstrated far better manners than the management of this sadly once good hotel.

How the Grand Hotel must miss the lovely Lionel,he was a gentle, gentleman a truly professional head waiter and master of ceremonies at this most lovely of hotels. We have now encountered the Head Waiter who is employed there (how, we and many others wonder?). At an afternoon tea meal and an evening meal. We will not be returning for a third run in. He was useless in taking an order, cheeky when we said no to wine and downright rude when we mentioned the pudding choice. He has put us off and like other reviewers I am spreading the word too. Don't go the Grand for ok ish food and worse to put yourself through being treated as dirt below this man's feet. How he has such a position defies all belief.

When to the Red Lion for dinner, staff very pleasant, bar area nice and spacious and generally clean ,that’s where it ends ,myself and wife sat at table no 42 facing the corner opposite, where four dogs were congratulating with there owners ,lovely dogs ,so lovely they had a dogs water bowl on there table ,the dogs sat on the seats next to there owners ,and even due to the fact that the owners put dog blankets on the seats ,the dogs just walked over the seats ,I do believe that the dogs found the tables ok for there use ,but call my old fashioned it was not acceptable to me and my wife ,please note iam not saying anything detrimental about the dogs they felt at home ,you may ask the question why I ordered the meals in this situation, one reason is that my wife does not like confrontation,so I kept my mouth shut ,the meal my wife wanted was not available so she chose another ,I chose Irish burgers Wow wow What a pile of rubbish ,mind you the dogs kept looking over at them ,but iam not cruel I love dogs ,would not like the vet bills if they ate them The icing on the cake was when my wife went for the salt she picked it up and low and behold they had not put the bottom on ,this in due course allowed the salt to pour out from the bottom ,method in there mad ness more salt kills the taste no complaints This is fact oh and do not drink the beer unless you like warm flat ale

Visit this pub frequently with family and live in forest hall. It’s a lovely pub and we always call in for a drink on a nice day when walking the dogs. They’re friendly and welcoming to all of us, and we always get what we want. It’s a pub, so you get what you bargain for - we normally get two pints of Stella, and large glass of wine and a fruity cider of some sort. We usually get like snacky food to share, nothing too high end. Anybody giving this pub a low rating, for honestly can’t understand why (unless they really dislike dogs). There isn’t a waiter, it’s all bar service, but it’s honestly lovely and always and the staff are always more than happy to help
