Perfect end to our perfect day out. The Victoria had a really lovely menu with a good variety of food including vegetarian and gluten free. The food was presented really beautifully, there was plenty on the plate and reasonably priced. Staff were really lovely and friendly and the pub was buzzing as the football was on and England won their match! Not bad for a typically English rainy summers day.

This charming old pub has been an occasional destination for us for many years, but I'm wondering if perhaps it has changed hands? The welcoming staff were nice, and the ale was as good as ever, but (luckily) we both visited the toilets before ordering food. That might sound weird but my wife and I then agreed the standard of hygiene was so bad we certainly wouldn't want to eat here. Neither Gents nor Ladies' had been cleaned properly (if at all) for months! (Photos of Ladies' attached, the Gents' was the same if not worse) If the same standards applied in the kitchens, it would definitely be a health hazard. There's no excuse here, it's just laziness on the part of the staff/management/owners. This is an establishment that sells food to the public, and minimum standards should apply - basic cleanliness should be paramount! We won't be back...

The Earl Soham beer is wonderful, that goes without saying, but the food is also exceptional. I was in a party of 15, the chef spoke to us personally, and although admittedly we ordered ahead, the food was served in good time, and was excellent quality. Perhaps the best mash I've eaten in a restaurant, certainly a pub, the sausages perfectly cooked, to the extent they had a slight 'crackling ' like quality, and the veg was oh so perfectly cooked. The clientele were also a friendly bunch. Will be back! Thank you.

Food was fantastic, both my friend and I had the venison wellington, it was beautifully cooked and the portions were a good size! My wife had the Thai curry and my friends wife had the lasagna and both were also great, sticky toffee pudding for dessert didn't disappoint, the sauce was the right balance and not too sweet, and the chocolate brownie was also gorgeous, staff were helpful bringing over an extra plate for my 2 year old who wouldn’t have managed a child’s portion so shared ours. Definitely recommended!!

A relaxed evening out with friends. The Victoria is a traditional English Pub serving great locally brewed beer and providing excellent food. Charles Bagnall! Well, what a feast! So nice to be back in such an old haunt (we were boozing here 35 years ago), re-living yesteryear. It was the perfect 'Escape' in one of Suffolk's finest traditional pubs that's lost none of its old charm. Jules Hudson, Escape to the Country.

I have been coming to the 'Vic' for over 35 years and it has always been fantastic, so thought it would make a lovely place to celebrate my daughters GCSE results. So disappointing - no atmosphere at all, no feeling of anyone being connected to the place and the food and rinks were awful. Coke warm and nearly flat, wine too warm, barely anything for a vegetarian. The food we ordered (Calamari, fish cakes and the special, a chicken burger) was all deep fried in what must have been very old oil. it tasted really horrible. I had expected home cooked food, proper vegetarian options and someone who cared. This was like a mini harvester, but not as good. never again. :(

You might be forgiven for missing the pub as you drive around the bend but you will have missed a gem. The food is brilliant in part due to its links to the Station hotel in Framlingham but with its own brewery it is a firm favourite with real ale customers. There is a green at the front for outside drinking and dining for those who want to enjoy the village atmosphere but inside a cosy traditional pub with great fare can be enjoyed - well worth a visit

We have been here many times before, but perhaps not in the last 2 or 3 years. It was always, from memory, an excellent little pub serving local beer, alas not brewed across the road any longer, and offering good wholesome food. Indeed we have been visiting this pub on and off for 18 years and had always been pleased.Of the 4 meals we had on this occasion (2 fish and chips, a ham egg and chips and a thai curry) only the curry was of any real merit and that was a bit short of prawns. The fish batter was stodgy and heavy with oil, whilst all the chips barely looked (and tasted) as if they had spent any time in the fryer and the portions were measly (perhaps in hindsight a bonus). The outside seating has seen far better days as well. The whole place looked and felt as if it were in its death throes.Has this place changed hands/staff? I will have to eait for other reports before even thinking of going back

Disappointing once I had decided what we wanted from the in the rear room.(very limited menu) I tried to order pork balls with Hoisin sauce, not exactly what we wanted but given the choice my wife opted for these. When I tried ordering these it totally confused the barmaid because I’m the back bar they advertise pork balls and the front bar pork strip with Hoisin Sauce, also she thought they were mains not starters. ( I doubt it’s actually the barmaids fault). Anyway I had Garlic Mushrooms for a starters, regarding the starters The mushrooms and were the mushrooms came in a pot with a sauce/oil certainly didn’t taste of garlic at all , a small piece of dry bread was also on the side.

We were very pleased to walk into a "proper" pub, small and unpretentious - warm welcome, good local beer and a tasty lunch served quickly. My ploughman's consisted of a large piece of mature cheddar, granary bread with (real!) butter, a pickled onion, sliced apple, chutney and the freshest possible salad followed by an excellent cup of coffee. My husband's baked Camembert was also pronounced delicious. I don't expect to be in the area again soon but would happily return.

Called in for lunch whilst visiting the area. Despite arriving during the advertised, lunch available, time, we were told no sandwiches were available as they were preparing for a tea party to celebrate the queens 90th. A kind customer suggested a short wait would mean we would be able to eat when the tea party started. We ordered a drink and said we would wait. The customers were very friendly and we passed time chatting. After the allotted time I asked politely again , to be told they were cutting the cake. Time passed and finally feeling hungry and ready to move on, we decided to leave, only to find out from a customer the food was out and ready. Why the staff hadn't told us is beyond me! It wasn't busy and very quiet. they obviously don't need the money from sales as they could have made us sandwiches alongside the tea party food for the invisible guests.

Visited today with my husband for two vegan hotdogs. Waited 30 minutes and went to counter to see if we had been forgotten, was told with no apology they had some big orders. 15 minutes later our food arrived with an apology about the wait. My husbands order was in correct, they took it away and corrected the order but his hotdog was cold when it was returned. When we went to pay we offered feedback as none was asked for and the response was that there was only two of them working and they were busy. No discount offered or compensatory cake or such. It cost £22 for a thoroughly poor experience.

Over-priced food - an unbelievable £4.75 for a stodgy, tasteless cheese scone with one pat of hard, cold butter. Only managed to eat half of it, really unpleasant, threw the rest away. The cakes were not covered and crawling with flies. Sandwiches even more over-priced at £8.25 for a small cheese sandwich with white bread. This cafe used to be so much better. Will drive past in future and not stop here.

Ver disappointed. Two young girls on duty who were indifferent to our questions. We sat down and neither came to ask if we needed drinks before ordering. There was only one other family in the restaurant. Left without ordering. Have been before with better results but not happy with the lack of service.

Stopped here for some breakfast and on entering we were met by a very cheerful friendly lady who showed us to a table. We had a yummy breakfast, it was delicious, together with some great coffee. All the staff were attentive, happy, and cheerful. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would definitely go again when visiting Aldeburgh!

We took advantage of an unexpectedly sunny Sunday to take a friend in a wheelchair for a stroll on the prom and brunch at the Alex — where we knew there was an accessible loo, should it be needed. Our order included a vegan breakfast, muffin and poached eggs and smoked haddock fishcakes, plus cake. All were good, fresh and well-cooked. Hats off to the chef who perfectly poached those eggs. The staff were friendly and professional and went out of their way to help us with wheelchair manoeuvring. The place feels well-run.
