I was pleasantly surprised at how good the evening meal and breakfast was after reading poor reviews. There were 6 of us including two under 6s. One of our grandchildren celebrated his 4th birthday and the staff made a big fuss over him by presenting him with a cake and singing happy birthday. All 6 meals were of a good quality and breakfast had plenty of choice to please everyone. Well done the staff.

For a large chain hotel, I wasn’t expecting a restaurant which is a sports bar. It had a very intimidating vibe for both nights of my stay, full of football fans and not a place I’d like to visit alone. Due to the Village’s lack of phones in rooms, you must go to the bar to order your room service (app system hasn’t worked the 4 times I’ve stayed at Village Hotels) Poor food and no vegetarian mains on offer, only salads and a burger from the “grill” section. Will avoid village hotels from here on.

Booked a table for Saturday night. This is not a restaurant but a bar and grill type of dining experience. The noise was horrendous, couldn’t here ourselves think never mind talk to each other. If you want a nice relaxing place to eat where you can talk as a couple this is certainly not the place. Saying that the food was delicious.

Lovely bar area and food ok but i feel compelled to write this review due to the smell of the toilets The smell is overpowering and reminds me of an underpass or filthy public toilets . The whole place is being refurbished so maybe aren’t bothering to maintain the toilets but the smell entering the corridor to the toilets is overpowering and off putting Wouldn’t visit again until work completed

This place is like Freddie Karno's Circus. It is chaotic. Firstly our ribs arrived looking like they had been microwaved. Tough, anemic and poor sauce. We sent them back and had them removed from the bill. The waitress apologized. My wife's teriyaki salmon was nice and my burger would have been if the chips weren't stone cold. I sent them to be replaced and the waitress apologized again. We had to find another waitress to get more drinks as ours had disappeared for a while. We chose deserts. My wife's was fine but when I asked if the Chocolate fudge cake was hot and was told it was, it arrived cold. The waitress apologized again. I sent it back to come back lukewarm. I just eat it as every time it took ages to find the waitress who was permanently busy even thought it was Monday night and the restaurant wasn't full. I would have asked for a reduction has I not had a discounted voucher. It is no wonder pub chains like Brunning and Price thrive against amateurish competition like this. I won't be going again

Having read a few bad reviews in the past, I was a bit worried after booking DBB stay st the hotel, especially as it was or anniversary. The set menu didn’t have much choice, but we were happy to choose from the menu, but was also offered to pick from a la carte with a £15 allowance and top up. The set menu was really good, we had a flat bread starter and hummus and tortilla chips.. both excellent. Main courses: we had the herb marinated grilled chicken and warm salad, and the chicken piri piri kebabs; both were excellent. We wanted the pineapple crumble but it had all gone, so I had the deconstructed cheesecake and hubby had the fudge cake, again both excellent. Only complaint was the espresso which was a machine one... not nice. Staff were lovely and friendly and welcoming.

We stay at lots of lovely hotels and have never paid so much for mediocre Brewers Fayre type food. I have never seen mussels so tiny and tasteless, as for the prawns and squid starter at £8 there could have been more of it and the batter was not as stated, it was soggy. Burger at £13 was very tasty, if a little on the pricey side, but one fillet of salmon, a few over-cooked chips (actually soggy, dark, overcooked wedges) on overcooked kale, at £18 was abominable. Two bottles of water £8. The restaurant speaks for itself though. Only three couples in on a Saturday evening at 8pm says it all. We only used it for convenience. Sorry must bring prices down and food standards up.

Booked s table for dinner Saturday night for two. Easy booking system. Restaurant and toilets accessible to disabled diners. Standard menu with traditional food, great to see the addition of sweet potato fries:-) Definitely recommend the tacos for starters, really tasty and two is definitely not enough 😋 so we ordered double. I had the traditional beef burger with fries and Mrs B had the chicken skewers. Well presented, hot, tasty filling food. Bill for two was £81 including 1 non alcoholic drink each and a bottle of water. Didn’t have pudding but the choice looked delicious. Service was friendly and the food was delivered to our table within a good time frame. All in all is the restaurant value for money, yes as a treat. Thank you.

Visited on Sunday 21 May for lunch. The choices have changed considerably since my last visit and to be honest I was a little disappointed. First course choices are ok and the carvery was hot, but the sprouts (that are no longer in season - so why are they serving them) were like bullets. Desserts were served as the starters were in little plastic pots. They have done away with the fresh pasta bar, the waffle bar and the cheese and biscuits. Staff were all over the place and looked disinterested.Just didn't cut it I'm afraid

This was followed by a spicy chicken pasta which, although filling, wasn't particularly exciting nor bursting with flavour and was definitely not worth £15! We ate dinner here last night. Menu choice was not great. We had sirloin steak an upgrade from rump steak. It cost £23.95 for each meal. For that we'd expect something more than steak chips and a few tomatoes. We ordered roasted veg as a side. The chips and veg were burnt. We were offered a mustard dressing. We asked for other sauces but there are none. We had mayo. We did tell the waitress and we were offered a complimentary dessert which was lovely. We won't be dining there again. We wouldn't usually book for Christmas Day dinner however this year it was a special birthday for my Father. Arrived at 2.30 pm but felt we were rushed into ordering as soon as we got there. On ordering the drink, the waitress came with a tray and dropped all the drinks over other customers. She went to replace the drinks and spilt the j20 bottle all over myself and son, she was embarrassed and helped a little but went away not replacing any of our drinks!.. After we dried off, we then had to ask a manager to replace the drinks which he did and apologised. A bit later our starters arrived and the waiter dropped my Fathers prawn cocktail, luckily my father caught it but he had prawn cocktail all over his hands! There was no offer of it being replaced! By this time we were feeling doomed but did laugh a bit, other customers were laughing too and said it was table number 13!!!! All I can think is that it was Christmas Day and they had employed inexperienced staff. Food was ok, not really worth the price tbh. And the coffee at the end was served in a mug, not quite hotel or Christmas Day standard. Wouldn't come again and definitely not on Christmas Day. They did knock off a bottle of wine at the end but it was a little late by then, the mood for my Dads special day was lost and very rushed.

We ate here on the feel good Friday deal set menu. We left somewhat disappointed with a number of areas for improvement:-- the food was at best average. Although not an issue for me the portion sizes were quite modest. There was no vegetarian starter on the set menu- the staff seemed very junior and inexperienced for example not knowing what wine was on the menu- what I disliked most was the layout and decor. Having been to restaurants in other village hotels that were characterful, this one looked like it had not been thought about at all. There was not a picture or chandelier to be seen. It felt like a load of tables and chairs and been chucked in a corridor and was completing lacking in atmosphere.

Free glass of prosecco with the deal, though extremely limited choice of meals, nothing that really excited either of us. My boyfriend had the mushrooms to start, he had offered to share before they arrived, however on arrival I could not deprive him, as they were so small! For dessert we ordered creme brûlée and sticky toffee pudding - excellent couldn't fault these. Best part of the meal. Wine selection was good but for a bottle of Chablis it was £35..slightly OTT. Overall it was a really nice meal no question but it was very overpriced. The restaurant is located in the Village hotel, so is frequented by hoel guests. Staff reception is friendly. There is an average choice of dishes, with most of the standards you will get in UK hotel/restaurants.I had ordered a sirloin steak (the most expensive on the menu), but did not like the skinned fries. So asked for french fries... However they do not serve any non skinned potatoes. When the steak arrived, there were only half a tomato on the plate and 3 leaves of vegetables... The steak itself was of poor quality; tough and old. I asked for a small side salad, as ust a steak was a bit minimalistic (thank you staff for not informing that nothing is served as a side). I had to pay extra though. So in conclusion: only eat here if you have no choice, and skip the sirloin steak.

There were dried up vegetables that were rock hard and shrivelled. The selection was poor I really did not enjoy it at all and I love a carvary! The dessert selection table has been replaced with a waffle machine and fruit or choc mousse or cheesecake. All in all I felt the food was extremely poor and the restaurant was being cleared away around us as we ate including a waitress clearing lots of unused glasses from our table as we were eating our meal. From the broad smile and the friendly welcome from the front of house/manager, to the excellent and attentive service, the scrumptious food and the relaxing atmosphere - we thoroughly enjoyed our meal here last night. We visited as a couple and we ordered the fish cake with poached egg and whole grain mustard, and the pate to start. We both had ribs, fries & coleslaw for mains, and the banana & toffee extravaganza for dessert. All of the food was served promptly, hot and tasted yummy. We really can't fault it. Highly recommended.

We had the 5 course Sunday carvery. Don't usually like carveries but this was good. Lots of choice and well cooked food. Staff were efficient and keen to help. Great value.

Ate here with friends after a last minute decision to eat out. Booking over the phone was quick & easy. Restaurant was not too full but even if it had been the room is nicely laid out with plenty of space between tables. The staff are friendly, courteous and efficient. The food is lovely. A varied selection of tasty fresh food and you can eat as much as you want. The price is justified and I think it offers very good value for money. Wasn't my first visit and definately won't be my last.

Great Bar inside the hotel! A good selection of food to choose from the menu and good size portions too. The bar staff are really friendly and were constantly asking if everything was ok! The food is very reasonably priced and so are the drinks. Sky sports was on whilst we were in there and the atmosphere was good along with music playing in the back ground. Would recommend

Some hotel restaurants can be lacking in atmosphere but we found the experience pleasant and the food good. Drinks were reasonably priced.

Food ok but the staff are the best part of this eating experience. Recommend the belly of pork and the grilled salmon was cooked to perfection.

If a hotel restaurant attracts "passing trade" and this one does, it must be good and it is. The Verve Grill is a part of a fairly large and very busy hotel but maintains an relaxed ambience with great staff service well prepared and served food.At least 25% of the diners were not residents which says it all

The carvery is fantastic! Unlike others I've been to this consisted of five courses and you could go back unlimited times. The veg was fresh and cooked to perfection and the salad starters were excellent. The staff were extremely friendly and we're definitely going to be regulars on Sunday now!

a post bank holiday meal outarrived just after 8 and was told to wait on the bar for 10 minutes. we had expected to be fetched to the restaurant when the table was ready but was not so after waiting for 20 minutes.we had pre chosen what we wanted only to find both dishes were off the menumain course (no starters) took >30 minutes to arriveour second choices weren't greatthe 'double' chicken breast was a single breast and it didnt taste as if it had been anywhere near any lemon and thyme and it was dry. the bearnaise sauce was presented in a small cream or mild jug, not a sauce boat so difficult to get out. chips were dry and tasteless.staff were pleasant and faultless but the speed of service could be a lot quicker bearing in mind that it was only a 30 seater restaurant that was open

Enjoyed a meal here from the set menu whilst staying the weekend at the hotel. The starter and dessert were both amazing and the presentation of the dishes was fantastic, the main was a little disappointing, despite presentation still being good, the chicken was a little dry and could have done with some improvement.Fantastic service from the staff however.

Myself and friends were made very welcome on entering the bar area, tom and heather from behind the bar was very polite and guided us through the menu, myself and a friend had the pulled pork it was delicious (recommended by Tom and heather) and the amount was just right, nothing more off putting than I plate full of chips. The service was very prompt, food was lovely and hot, tables were cleared as soon as you were finished and the area was very clean. All in all our visit was delightful and can't wait till next time for another great night, thanks again :)

We visited the verve grill in chester on a living social voucher, 2 courses for 19 pound for two with 2 small glasses of wine, the menu was very limited but in the end we had the cheesy garlic flatbread which was very nice and the burger and chips. For the price we paid it was decent value but we had to pay another four pound for our main meal for the voucher went up to 12.50.I was.very suprised when i asked if i could change my wine for beer and it was turned down but i was allowed to change one wine to a coke(suprise suprise).I dont think id rush back here on a voucher or full price food for the local harvester has a better burger at 7 pound than the verves 14.50 burger.

My husband and I went to The Verve last night for a meal to celebrate Valentines Day and chose off the special menu and it was really really good. The staff were brilliant-attentive but not overly so and the restaurant was nicely decorated. The food was hot and beautifully presented. I am very critical about anything not up to par and honestly I could not fault a thing.Well done St Davids-you have certainly got your act together.

On our way home from a weekend in Wales and we stopped here on a recommendation. From the minute I walked in my brain was screaming no! It was not looking the cleanest of places this may be because it is so dated inside with tatty furniture and dirty carpets but as it did have a 5 star hygiene to the entrance door and with my dad being diabetic and neededing food we went with it. We ordered three roast dinners and they arrived homemade but the veg was waterlogged and tasteless and I was pretty much not willing to take a chance of eating in here so waited for the parents to finish and made a quick exit. Only reason I put poor and not terrible was because the lady and her daughter that was about 10 that served us was very polite.
