We recently had a mixed experience at Vermuteria. The atmosphere was fantastic, with a cozy and inviting ambiance that made for a great setting to enjoy a meal. The décor was charming, and the overall vibe was relaxed yet lively, making it a pleasant place to spend an afternoon. However, the service left much to be desired. Our server was inattentive and seemed disinterested throughout the meal. It took quite a while to get our drinks and even longer for the food to arrive. When we did receive our orders, there was a lack of warmth or enthusiasm from the staff, which detracted from the overall experience. The food itself was good. However, the highlight was supposed to be the tiramisu, and unfortunately, it was a real letdown. What was served didn't resemble a traditional tiramisu at all, lacking the rich, creamy layers and coffee-soaked savoiardi that one would expect. It felt like a pale imitation of the real thing, which was disappointing. In summary, Vermuteria has a great atmosphere and good food, but the service needs significant improvement, and the tiramisu, in particular, is something to avoid if you're expecting the real deal.

We decided to eat here because it looked really nice and cozy. When we sat down we had trouble hearing each other because of the loud music. When we ordered drinks we got a pint to much. When the food arrived everyone got there food at different times so some people where almost done and some people didn’t had food yet. The portion of the steak sandwich and risotto where quite small, especially for the price it wasn’t worth it. The taste was quite good 👍 When we were done we all where still hungry. Don’t recommend for food, maybe drinking 🍷

Total rip-off. It cost £8.50 for about 4 sips of very average vermouth, and then they tried to charge us for service as well, which we managed to get them to remove. Charging service for simple drinks only is not common or acceptable in the UK. On top of that, the service was atrocious.

We stopped for a drink and a snack on a Saturday evening - snacks and drinks are overpriced but okay, but the service seemed to be there only for pushing us out and was overall just so poorly executed. Many reviews state that so we feel stupid for not having checked first, you should just never step into a 3.7 stars place. They made us seat at a dirty table with spilled liquids and didn’t care about cleaning it. Someone took our order, but after a while someone else showed up to take our order too. It was just the beginning of the disaster and a power race between two waitresses. Drinks arrived fast, when mine was 3/4 over I had to fight to keep it as the two waitresses passed three times in 10 minutes asking if they could take the empty glass (which was not empty). When they passed for a fourth time 5 mins later I asked (exasperated, I might have been slightly rude) if I was allowed to keep my glass until it was clearly empty or I asked to take it away. …this worked so well less than three minutes later the second waitress passed again, grabbed it and asked if she could take it away at which point I gave up. The Mrs downed her drink, we paid and left to never come back. Just go at a convenience store, buy a random bottle and a bag of crisps and you’ll have a better experience. Ps: in case you’re wondering if we’re the kind of couple which gets a glass of water and expects to sit at a table for half a day - I don’t know when we got in but we paid and left at 19:07. The previous transaction on our cards is at 18:13 at a place which is 10 minutes out. Some quick math shows they wanted us out in about 30 mins, for an £36 order. We left after 44 mins, making then earn about £0.80 per minute. The fun thing is if their service wasn’t so bad we would have stayed another hour for a second and third round + dinner at no less than £120 looking at their menu, which would have been £1.34 per minute - they are so bad they can’t even do math and some food spend forecasting.

We were exploring the coal drops yard and came across this little bar, restaurant, perhaps myself and husband don’t meet their required clientel standards with our Herefordshire accent, or was it our age (we are 60 and 68 but are much younger in ourselves) or because we only wanted drinks. We were directed to these tall very narrow stools on tall tables, no problem however we were the only customers in this lifeless room with no atmosphere what so ever, because we didn’t want food, however other customers who came in and asked for just drinks were taken through to a little buzzing room. We chose 2 gin and tonics , in a small wine glass the tonic wasn’t even in a separate bottle, so I believe the tonic shared between us both or from a large bottle. which we believed would be about £12 each, when my husband paid we stupidly didn’t ask to see the bill and just paid, when checking our balance later it cost us £29.25 which doesn’t even devide evenly between 2 bills, a service charge was not deserved for the terrible service with the most uncomfortable chairs, I would not recommend this place to anyone, I always give fair reviews and hate being so critical, however I really have not received such a terrible service at this ridiculous price ever, if the service, seating and ambience had been better then this review wouldn’t have been written, We ate and drank all over London at lots of different bars, cocktail bars and pubs, this was my only negative experience

Very unpleasant and revolting experience. We came here with my friend, to have a coffee. We’ve been placed at the bar, - after being told that the tables were for food only - which is fine. We ordered 2 teas. And after half an hour, ordered again, a diet soda. The staff came repeatedly- at least 5 times in 30 min..! - to ask us if we were finished with our drinks, and if we’d like to order anything else. The 6th time the waitress came and gave us the bill in a very rude manner without us requesting it. We asked politely why they would give us the bill and if there was any problem. The manager then came , immediately very aggressive when we asked what was the issue- as we’ve ordered 3 drinks in less than 40 minutes - He then literally asked us to leave the place immediately. We were absolutely shocked and couldn’t even believe such behaviour. Never ever had such a bad and disrespectful experience

I have never experienced such terrible behaviour from an eating/drinking establishment as I did today. We did not eat here, but thank goodness as these would be the type of people to spit in your food. Others reviewing have also said the food is bad so thank goodness we didn’t. I also agree with other reviews that they are ‘very bitter and money grabbing.’ I visited today for the first time with a friend, we walked in to have a drink at the bar. We were there in total for under an hour. We were rushed to finish our non alcoholic drinks, and continually asked (even 20 minutes in) do we want another, and once finished (I had one and my friend 2) we were told that other people need the bar stools (it was not reserved) they said that they just wanted other people to sit there. Bearing in mind that there were many empty tables. It is not the busiest of establishments - now I can see why. Very rude. I am unsure if discrimination was taking place, but it very much felt like it. I have never in my life experienced this. We were in complete and utter shock. It was very upsetting. I asked to speak to the manager who came over with stains all over his shirt, and very aggressive distressed man, and he said ‘can you leave as we are turning other people away’. It was insanely unprofessional, and quite unbelievable. Thinking about it, I think they push people to spend more money as they don’t seem to be doing very well. I think they are trying to push alcohol onto their customers, who knows. Avoid at all costs! There are plenty of other places around. I will also be contacting the people who own the space at Coal Drops so that they are aware, and to take this further. Update: After writing this I have since read on Google reviews about so many other people saying that the manager asked them to leave because they were not quick enough to order more food or drinks. I will be contacting customer care and Kings Cross Visitor centre to report this place and its staff. Have added images of who to contact in case anyone else would like to report them also.

When we tried to order, half the things we wanted weren’t available on the menu. When I asked about the cheeses available on the cheese board (as I’m pregnant) no member of staff knew what they were- the duty manager seemed to infer that I should look up the names myself, and eventually suggested I go and ask the chef myself?! She was being so rude - she clearly knew nothing and was being shirty with me about it. I asked her to ask the chef herself - he came over and adequately explained the options, and brought some samples for me to try too, which was nice. When we asked for the bad experience with the food and options to be reflected in the bill, they just said they would remove the tip. I wouldn’t go there again based on the availability of the options and the useless wait staff. They should be trained in the food they serve.

Just terrible. I was in a group of 9, we picked this spot for some breakfast before we were due to get a train. We arrived at around 10.45am ish and our train wasn't until 12, so we thought we had plenty of time. The guy who took our order seemed completely uninterested in his job and I could tell he wasn't writing things down properly. We got our drinks first, the waitress literally spilled half my friends coffee when she placed the cup down and didn't even offer to get her a new one and when she placed the milk on the table my friend asked if it was semi-skimmed to which she said yes (it wasn't, it was oat milk). They missed another friend's drink completely and we had to ask for it twice until they brought it. The food slowly started coming out after being sat for a very long time. I'll add here that half the group got their food, the other half didn't in the end as they simply didn't bring it. I ordered egg on toast with mushrooms and when we asked where my food was they said there weren't any mushrooms left (this is after being sat for at least 30 minutes whilst everyone else got theirs). Two people ordered croissants, they brought one out, then when we chased up the other one they said they'd run out. We ended up leaving as half the group never got their food and they kept bringing us other people's orders. I'm not joking when I say it was the worst breakfast experience I've ever had. Staff had no clue what they were doing and the food that did make it's way to our table was awful as well. Bacon undercooked, stale hard bread, overcooked poached eggs. Avoid this place seriously. Only nice thing here was the coffee. They also made out like they were doing us a favour for not charging us for the food.... which we never got.

Disappointing for an expensive meal.

Good to see Vermuteria continuing in the swing, in early September's Indian summer. Great vermouth/gin-influenced cocktails, a supremely broad range of vermouths (including Select, Cynar), Italian Amari, and more. Good range of small plates (hot and cold) and friendly staff, warm in their welcome. Ice cream very welcome, too!

Excellent environment. Food is delicious and service very good. Drinks could have a little more punch to it. Felt a little too sweet.

Great spot to grab a bite, I ate with an Italian and they were very impressed with the flavoursome food. We started with the croquettes and I ate maybe one of the best tiramisu's ever here also!!! Kind attentive staff and it's not too pricey, worth a try if you're in the area 💯

The place has both indoor and outdoor seating. The environment was good however only one bathroom without separating men / women. No baby changing. These are all okay acceptable. One thing I want to complain was the outrageous price. We ordered some drinks and a crab sandwich to share, £15. You would think £15 would get you a full loaded crab sandwich on a piece of bread. But, I was too positive. The crab meat was as little as could barely cover the surface of the bread. I mean, I know everything has gone up the price over the past 2-3 years but things have to make sense. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of the dish but I am being honest. Just want to maybe ask the restaurant to review the pricing / make of the dish and make it more reasonably priced.

1. The menu on their web is 50% less than the one they charge you!!! Quite a disappointing surprise... 2. We were asked to pay 20 minutes after arriving cause they wanted to close tab cause we were above 20 pounds... dont know what to make of this... funny thing is we were below 20 quid and they had a wrong bill with an extra drink we didnt take😅. We told them about this to the waitress, she left and a waiter came asking if we wanted to remove the service change, we explained to him about the extra drink, he tried to convince us the bill was ok.... I mean c'mon... anyways... we paid and left and wont come back... 8 quid for this little tiny vermouth and very bitter service...

I always come here- delicious tiramisu! - yesterday I went with a friend, around 3pm had a coffee and a cake. My friend had a coffee. Our friend later met us about 20mins after that, also ordered a coffee and a cake. Firstly, the server made a strange joke about mill alternatives… my friend wanted oat milk - they said they didn’t have any only chicken milk… okay Secondly, the place was empty it was a Monday afternoon. We were there for about an hour and a half- chatting etc.. the servers kept asking us if we wanted anything more, we refused the first time, the second time as well. We actually were going to order more but then, the server asked again and said “ well you’ve been here for a while so if you’re not going to order anything we’ll give you 5 mins grace period to leave” I would understand if it was very busy, if there was reserved seating, reserved party, A queue…none of that- it was a Monday afternoon. It was basically empty. The men next to us ordered a coffee and worked on their laptops for about the same time as us.. they were not asked to leave. Very strange interaction, very rude. Never had this issue before and I come here often. Regretfully, I probably will be hesitant to come back.

Our second visit to this really lovely restaurant….having sampled both lunch & dinner there we can confirm the food is VERY nice!! Situated in the Coal Drops Yard complex the restaurant is super stylish, relaxed & casual with a Italian/European theme. All the staff are most welcoming, friendly & helpful. The menu is reassuringly small & uses very, very high quality ingredients…lovely bread, olives + the ragu & burrata are especially good. We wanted to visit for a third time but unfortunately they were closed that evening BUT on our next visit to London we will be back!!! Can’t wait!!!

Really appalling service. Constant pressure to order more food and drink from one of the managers. As soon as one plate was finished, I was pressured to order more, and when I asked for a pause to think about what to order next after my second plate - I was essentially told to get out immediately. There were other tables free and no queue of diners (though he lied and said there was). I hadn't even definitively said I wasn't going to order anything else. I also noticed him constantly pressuring nearby diners. Far from a welcoming atmosphere and I left feeling terrible. The food is also incredibly overpriced. A general sense limited hospitality and milking every customer for as much as possible.
