We came here because we saw the reviews and we're never going back again. Since it's right inside a park, there's lots of mud and dirt around constantly. The inside was crowded and muddy, leaving the whole place to be too loud to enjoy. Not good being in such a dirty place. The place requires constant cleaning. The staff were lovely and polite at least. But food is expensive and NOT worth the price at all. We ordered pasta, and you could make something better at home quite easily.

We used to be able to sit down for coffee at Verdis with no problem. The staff were welcoming and let us know when to leave if tables had been booked for lunch. Things have changed. This morning, at 10.30 am, we were told that all the tables were booked. If we wanted coffee, we had to get back out, order it from their hatch, and drink it outside. We sat in the cold for as long as we could. Some tables were still free inside so I asked again if 4 of us could come inside but the response was a categorical unfriendly NO by one of the members of staff. By the time we left, there were still free tables. I have enjoyed many dinners at Verdis but today I was disappointed by the staff. Our Saturday morning coffee meetings will take place somewhere else.

Delicious food and really excellent service but very disappointed that they wanted to charge £20 to cut a home made birthday cake. We would have stayed and had dessert, more wine and coffees but instead went back to my house and cut the cake, opened a couple of bottles of wine and then teas and coffees- Verdi’s loss.

We visited Verdi’s in Clarence Park after watching a St Albans football match in what was the Mozzarella Fellas Stadium at Clarence Park. I order the Arrosticini (grilled lamb + seasonal venison skewers on rocket + fennel salad, with a mint + garlic dip) and really enjoyed it. Visiting in the late afternoon /early evening the restaurant was not over busy and we really enjoyed our meal.

We haven’t been to Verdi’s before and I don’t know why. It’s a lovely little restaurant, great interior. Food is delicious but the best by far is the care and attention from all the staff, who were wonderful. It’s a rare treat these days to experience that. There was a big party in at the same time but the staff made everything appear to run seamlessly and we weren’t overlooked because of it. So a big thank you to the staff for making it a great evening

We had an excellent meal here. They had to time it between two Prom concerts (one finishing before 9 pm and the other starting at 10.15) at The Royal Albert Hall (where the restaurant is located) and did it excellently. Food, staff and service were all excellent. When we went the price was £29 for two courses. We booked in advance, and that incurred a £20 online deposit. The bill contained a £2 charity donation which we had to query to find out what it was for (I'm not certain the staff member knew but he said it was to help maintain the building). The only problem was that the (quite large) restaurant had only two loos (both unisex) which is not enough, and so there were some anxious (about getting their meal and making it to the concert) queues. Otherwise all was excellent. They need to find a way to get more loos!

I came here on a Friday early evening with my two little ones; their front of house team were so welcoming and great with the kiddies. It’s friendly and easy going - a nice vibe here; music is great and the surroundings are so lovely. We’ve been before often for pizza in the park but it can get super busy with a bit of a wait, which is fair enough at peak times. Anyway, we to decide to eat in and loved it. Will defo come back.

This place has all the makings of a little gold mine. Been going since under the previous owners. The location and the building means the battle has largely been won in foot traffic and monopoly alone. The park has been crying out for a day time coffee and snack bar and it’s no surprise that it’s clearly doing well in the day with plenty of people buying coffees, snacks and ice cream. But crikey with such success how can the staff be on the wrong side of miserable. Just overall rude and almost like serving customers is just a bit of an inconvenience. I have read similar feedback before but our last 2 day time visits have been very disappointing. Of course quality of food does clearly pay a big part in success but customer relationships is how long term brand loyalty is built so maybe might be a good message to share with the staff.

Lovely family-run restaurant set on the edge of Clarence Park. Been going here most working days for the last year. The food is great and the staff are accommodating towards groups and/with children and are always friendly. Has a nice outdoor area for casual coffee meet-ups and offers take-away food. I love the provision of beach chairs to allow customers to sit on the lawn in the park. Rosie, and the rest of management team, are a treasure and make everyone welcome.

I've been coming here to get hot chocolate and a snack with my young daughter every weekend for over a year. The service has gradually got slower and far worse, and today was the point we decided we didn't want to come back. We ordered a drink and it took more than half an hour to come, and we had to chase it. The girl making the drinks (I don't know her name but she has long hair in plaits) was rude and surly , and didn't apologise for making us and many others in the queue wait so long. We finally got my daughter's hot chocolate and discovered it had a fly in it that the wait staff hadn't even noticed. I am so apalled by the sevice and the hygiene that we will never be coming back here. I am really sad about this as coming here has been such a lovely ritual for my daughter and I, allowing us to spend time together and make memories. I can't take her somewhere like this though. Verdi's clearly doesn't value its customers or their safety : (

Do not visit if you are with children - you’ll be made to feel unwelcome. I tried to visit for lunch with my two children last week, and was told that unless we had a reservation they couldn’t fit us in. It was midday on a Monday, and there were two tables occupied. I understand that recent changes have forced restaurants to change their table layout but couldn’t believe it was even worth them opening if they could only take two bookings at a time. It was very apparent to me that they’re not family friendly, so go elsewhere if you’ve got kids with you. Shame really, with the playground and space in Clarence park I feel like they’d have much bigger market if they positioned themselves as a family restaurant!

I hadn’t come here in a few years, after the change in management I was slightly disappointed by my pizza when visiting one evening. However my friend asked me to join her after she had visited a few times for pasta dishes and I’m so glad I accepted her invite! I was pleasantly surprised at my food. We ordered the porcini mushroom pasta and the sausage pasta dish and both were soooo full of flavour and absolutely delicious! Being Italian myself I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The pasta was cooked fresh, just like they did years ago with the old management. It was a bit of a wait, there was only our table and another table yet we waited around 35 minutes for 2 pasta dishes but with it all being fresh and delicious it was worth the wait and can’t complain! The only thing I would say is that it’s a shame there’s not more pasta options! Will come back and hopefully have another pleasant experience :)

We are regular customers at Verdi’s (new management) and it is our favourite Italian restaurant in St Albans. The food, staff and ambience is all very Italian. You arrive at the restaurant and you immediately relax with the very welcoming and friendly staff and owner. The menu, apart from traditional dishes, includes little gems like ossobuco, pappardelle al cinghiale, gnocchi with pecorino cream or burrata with parma ham. When we ask for variations to the dishes, they are more than happy to oblige. The choice of wine is very good. Their house red is “Montepulciano”! and their choice of after meal liquors is also authentically Italian. That’s why for us Verdi is “home from home”. Fabio

My wife & I are visiting St Albans for the night, & being Italian myself, Ive always struggled to find a really good authentic Italian restaurant.. until tonight that is. Verdi’s is a little hidden gem of a restaurant that I would urge everyone to visit! From the moment we entered, we felt so welcome! The restaurant is cosy & small, but the atmosphere is everything you’d get from a family run Italian restaurant in Italy! Terry the owner sat with us & we chatted for ages, nothing is too much trouble for him & he is what makes this restaurant so perfect! The food is amazing, unlike anything you’d get from a typical chain restaurant. I had pasta, my wife had pizza. Terry gave us espresso’s on the house & we even had Ferraro rochers afterwards! I honestly can’t wait to come back here for our next visit. You won’t find better than this!

The resteraunt is a nice space. But. As we had already been asked what we wanted to drink while being handed a menue and asked for orange so we were committed. However were presented with a menu that was either a big breakfast but with not much variety on plate for about £9 or completely massive breakfast with everything for about £10. We went for large but ONLY because the combination on the on the half breakfast were not what we wanted. The two sausage were awful, 2 eggs fried, not poached the sauteed potatoes were anemic and the beans were just plain wierd(not normal baked beans). Even with beans felt dry and heavy. When will eaterys understand that a massive breakfast that cost more than an evening meal out is just too much to start the day with. It's just unnecessary. I would have preferred half that size breakfast for at most a ball park figure of £7. Not a massive one for over 10. This with a pot of tea for 2 comes in at a whopping £35. A huge spend before you have even started your day.

OK - so you don't always want to associate a restaurant with a toilet but a restaurant is not just about location. If you are interested in food then that is what a restaurant is all about. If you are interested in being seen or the "ambience" then photoshop yourself into some Michelin Star restaurants! So back to Verdi..... The food was lovely, the staff were friendly, helpful, funny and a little rushed but in a good way. If something wasn't right they wanted to make it right - if they forgot something they got it over with a smile and an apology. It didn't really happen to us but we saw it in the restaurant and everyone eating had a smile on their face. We could look into the kitchen which was very much on view through a large window. Clean, tidy, happy chefs working together. All good signs. The menu was a good mix of authentic Italian cuisine. Nothing ludicrously fancy and nothing ludicrously expensive. All the food came out at the right time and it all tasted fantastic. All four of us had fish and the two that had starters had really nicely prepared and presented dishes. Dessert was also nice - although the tiramisu was a little short of Madeira(!). Good coffee followed and a bill that did not leave us crying. all in all - a lovely evening (and a true Italian family experience - although our young waiter was not Italian as he pointed out!)

If you eat, they bring small ciabatta slices with a oil/vinegar/chilli dip which is nice to nosh on. Starter of bruschetta was good - nothing complicated but done reasonably well.

This was a great night . I was worried we hadn't been there for several years and we had arranged for 14 of our family to meet there . I should not have worried we met at 6.30 there was already a large table there the atmosphere was so relaxed , noisy but in a good way . We were made to feel welcome from the moment we walked in I was concerned if we would have to wait to long because of the other large table , but even when a 3rd big table came in , it did not stop as getting excellent service and wonderful food . The kids meals were fabulous the pasta dishes to die for vongole , ravioli fantastic mussels pizza Italian sausage chicken good wine and beer . I could go on all at the most reasonable price. Can't wait to go back. Thank you

Back in the days of the old Verdi's (20 years ago), my ex and I ate there at least once a week, with never a complaint. The most obvious change is that they no longer serve pizzas - and they used to be the best pizzas in St Albans. But we quickly realised that one waitress (with very little English) and one chef struggled even to serve one course to one table - even when we made it clear that we didn't have all night (not that we expected fast food - we had well over an hour). The food was acceptable. The service was dreadful. I'm told there's a new pizza place in Fleetville. That's where we'll go next time.

Went here it for a nice meal on a Friday night we have booked but it was fairly quiet and seemed to be a bit like a pensioners night! Don't let that put you off as I were some young people about as well this is a lovely setting in the corner of the park with a fairly extensive menu I had the salted cod which was lovely and my partner had sea bass which was also good, for starter we had the antipasti which was lovely all in all very good meal and not overly expensive the staff were very good friendly and helpful. The decor is no frills but a good atmosphere if you fancy something a little bit Off the Beaten Track give it a try.

The setting is just lovely on a summer evening. We had drinks and ate outside then returned inside for coffee and home-made Limoncello. The owner is very frinedly and looked after us well. However, the food was very disappointing compared to how it used to be under previous management. The veal was not well cooked and the dessert was not as good as before. Maybe they are trying to cut corners, but it is a shame to let old customers down, when we can still remember the good times we experienced there.

For our 11th wedding anniversary meal, booked a table Saturday night but there was no need as half of it it’s empty. The bruschetta starter had loads of garlic, which I don’t mind so much because I like garlic but it should be about the tomatoes. My pasta Pescadore was so bad that my lovely husband swap it for his pasta with clams, which was better.

I was a regular at the old verdi’s which was excellent. The place was half empty on Saturday night. We had prawns which where salty and very poor the lamb was average but not worth writing home about. Starters where disappointing dessert was good.

My fiancé and I have lived down the road from this restaurant for a few months now and just haven't got round to trying this it- well, we have been missing out! My fiancé is Italian and I am half Italian, and we are always quite critical of Italian food in England as it can be done so badly! This restaurant is a real find though - we both had linguine with clams to start which were divine, and then he had a veal chop and I had veal Milanese. It was all delicious - even the complimentary bread, and the side salads we ordered. We also shared a bottle of very nice and reasonable Pinot Grigio, and the staff were very lovely. It was a delicious and very reasonably priced meal. We will be back here again and again!!

We recently went to Verdis trattoria as a family and then I returned with my partner - both times food and service was excellent. Proper Italian food as it should be served at a reasonable price. For the two of us two starters, two mains and drinks came to £55. They also provide bread for the table with a lovely dip at no extra cost. Highly recommend!

A converted public lavatory with views over the splendid Clarence Park. The nice views are a big plus. So is the proximity to the station. There is a little car park in Clarence Park.

We enjoyed a great meal at Verdis. The welcome was friendly and the food was tasty. We enjoyed both the fish dishes and pasta dishes. It was not too noisy so we had a perfect opportunity to catch up with friends.

3 of us went for an evening meal as Verdi’s has been a long favourite of mine. Unfortunately it was a very disappointing evening. After waiting 10minutes a lady came to take our drinks order. She pulled out the spare chair, moved my bag to the floor and sat down with us to take our drinks order. When all 3 of us ordered soft drinks she made a comment ‘oh aren’t you the big drinkers’! We then waited over half an hour before the waiter came to take our order and we informed him that we hadn’t even had the menus, which we then brought to us. A further 15 minutes later the lady took our order, but the waiter came back to our table shortly after, placed my bag on the floor again and sat down with us to query who had ordered the carbonara which he then proceeded to tell me was made with raw egg, no cream and pigs cheek not bacon. This (and his closeness and bad breath) wasn’t selling it to me so i changed my order to the sausage pasta. Not sure if this was a good choice either as it was quite tasteless and bland. On another note the soap and hand cream in the ladies wc looked of a good quality in nice bottles but these had actually been refilled with cheap alternatives. That’s just a small point but not a good impression. Sadly having gone here for any years we will not be returning.

All six of us, 31 year old to a 92 year old, enjoyed every course. Beautifully cooked and flavoured Italian food. Excellent portions and value for money ahead of the Italian restaurants in the city center. Made to feel at home by all of the staff.

This is a cafe inside of a Sainsbury's (stevenage branch) , today they aren't selling toasties because they have "run out of cheese". I guess nobody can be bothered to walk over to the cheese aisle? Ridiculous to run out of ingriedients when they're inside a supermarket.

We ordered pizza delivery from here on a Monday and it took 45 minutes for 3 pizza to arrive and when they did it was cold. We live less and mile away, won’t be using again as this is the second time we had a bad experience with Wheathampstead nonnos

Appalling service. Drinks were brought for half of our party and finished before the other half got one. Had to ask for water 3 times. 7 of us had finished the starter and the 8th person had not received theirs. When the waiter arrived, he had the wrong starter...twice. The mains were mediocre at best. They brought a wrong drink but shrugged and left it on the tabke. We were charged for it. We were offered one complimentary drink as an apology for the late starter, but were actually charged for it too. They mixed up the coffees... They made Fawlty Towers look sophisticated. Young, untrained staff, understaffed, total chaos. Absolutely shocking service. A very poor meal all round. If I could give a zero rating I would.
