A real gem of a restaurant! Very authentic Italian restaurant - the decor is beautiful, the food was very fresh and absolutely delicious, and the service was excellent. Very, very impressed - we will definitely be back! Highly recommend!

Came here for a Father’s Day meal, first time for two of us out of the four of us. We had an amazing meal and the service was fantastic. Our server was really interactive with us - doing magic tricks and keeping us entertained! The food was really tasty, we all got pizzas and had antipasto for the starter to share and we loved it. Would definitely return, good value for money and good location.

Very delicious Italian pizza. This is the only place I go now whenever I crave for pizzas and it never disappoints. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with beautiful interiors. If you're there, try the tartuffo pistachio for dessert. 100% would recommend!

It's intimate, it's eclectic, but wow, what amazing pizzas! maybe no more than 25 covers and personally it's a pizzeria so order pizza and I promise that what you get is as close to what you'll get in north Italy as possible. Yum- Yum, can't wait o go back.

Won't be back in a rush. Service not good, food not right, over charged bill. Really disappointed as I was looking forward to going there.

Sadly Disappointed. Despite this being open for almost two years I'd never managed to get there. And I won't be back in a rush. Why not? Well, we were given a table for 90 minutes, which should have been fine but everything was just too slow. First ask for drinks order was about 15 minutes. Starters.. the calamari was good although lukewarm.. parmagiana was hot and good. Main courses were almost an hour after we arrived, and weren't as ordered. When I pointed this out, there was an indifferent shrug. The calzone was somewhat undercooked. We left it under a napkin as by now we had decided we would finish, pay, and leave. When we asked for for a set of cutlery and some chilli oil (two sets of cutlery delivered for three people) the waitress walked straight past the chilli oil and reappeared literally about 3 minutes later with a knife and fork and said "oh you've got some chilli oil". I'd gone and got it myself. There was no table check at any point. When the waitress was clearing our starters she asked if we wanted the dessert menu. And the icing on the cake was an incorrect bill where we were charged for a bottle of prosecco when we'd had a bottle of rose. What a shame. What a disappointment. First time in a long time we've left a zero service charge/tip/gratuity. In a town with a choice of (Italian) restaurants I think they need to do better.

Excellent. First visit but what a treat!

Went for an impromptu dinner out and Zio’s did not disappoint! The starters were fresh and a very decent size portion. The mains came out promptly and were absolutely delicious. So light but filling. We finished off our dinner with three massive profiteroles that were hard to finish. Everything was fab. The house red wine was really nice and the espresso was velvety smooth. 10/10 from us.

Small, intimate restaurant with only 20 or so covers. Pizzas cooked in a large pizza oven in front of you. And very good they are too. The pasta dishes are tasty as well. The staff were friendly and attentive. I recommend.

Delicious pizza and salad for a young family. Friendly service and lovely Italian style setting. We will return!

We booked a table but on arriving at Zio's were told that they hadn't received our booking even though we had received a confirmation email. They then offered us a table, we sat down, they asked us to move, so we did, they then said we couldn't stay after all. It was embarrassing, and being a Friday evening, very hard to find anywhere else. It was a mistake, probably on their booking system, but there was no real apology or even interest in us. If you want to try Zio's, perhaps phone to check they have your booking! Or perhaps look at another restaurant.

Such an inviting atmosphere and delicious food. The gluten free pizza was incredible, unsurprisingly given the quality of the pizza oven they have. I would love to see some gluten free pasta options and to be honest was slightly disappointed that the gf pizza base was an additional £4, whilst I can understand they can be more expensive I’m coeliac and I feel it’s a shame to be penalised for something that is not you’re choice but maybe that’s me being picky. The restaurant is a bit limited in space but it creates an intimate and authentic experience. Already a great restaurant but if they modified elements to make its more suited to gluten free they could tap into a new market

This is one of my favourite spots in the whole of England for a relaxed, simple, tasty Italian meal. The pizza is very good, even for Italian standards - Gorgonzola and zio pizzas are top notch. The other dishes I tried - eg spaghetti alle vongole or spaghetti allo scoglio (no chilli for me) - are very good too. Staff is lovely; the restaurant is cozy and welcoming.. When I fancy a pizza or a simple Italian meal, I come here; and I come back over and over again.

A go to for us, the pizza here is made in a huge wood fire oven and is so tasty! Service is always friendly, atmosphere very relaxed. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice meal out in Harpenden!

Visited today again with a friend. The food is nice and please keep it that way but the service is appalling. The place was empty when me and my friend walked in. Once we sat down we waited quite a bit before someone appeared and still ignored us eventually we had to call him to be served. I’ve eaten in this pizzeria a good few times and always had the same problem. Service slacks. Please guys don’t run this place to the ground as your food is decent but the pizza is to die for. 👌👍

What a Gem. Have known of Zio’s for a while now, and I’m just annoyed I never went in sooner. Lovely decor and staff, very fresh pasta and pizza. 10/10. It’s not cheap, but it is fantastic. Will be going back soon.

The first time we ordered take out for delivery from here (shortly after it opened) it was sensational - literally the best pizza I've ever had. For a family get together I asked that we all get pizza from here. We went to collect, and while I appreciate having 8 pizzas ready at the same time and hot was a challenge, most people weren't that impressed. We tried for a third time a few days ago, and once again no one was especially happy. The salad was delicious, but carbonara was laden with pepper, my gorgonzola pizza had one (ONE! ) small chunk of gorgonzola on it, and Papi said his calzone was chewy and difficult to eat. Sadly, I doubt I will be able to convince anyone to get take out from here again. I just wish I could have that first pizza again, as I still think about it.

Great little Italian pizza house, used to be a chip shop. Pizza is cooked to order with a fired oven, great to have a proper "well done" pizza. Super friendly staff/chefs. Limited space and tables , so book early.. £4 for a bottle a still water when we asked for 2 glasses of water to go with our bottle of wine, felt a bit "gougy", so lost a * for that.

It has been long time to be in there. I came to Harpenden today and I just realized my experience in the restaurant. I found hair on my pizza when I mention this to my server, he did not do anything. Even he didnt suggest to replace my dish with new one. Such a bad experience. Needed to my review as I seen owner’s reply; your firts aim has to be customer experience. You need to polite with me. I can proof my purchase with bank transaction. I dont think so I am alzheimer. And definately I will leave my review here to be sure everyone aware of your place hygine level.

Booked for dinner in the evening. Beers arrived - Peroni in Moretti glasses. Starters arrived and were great. Then the mains arrived, asked if we needed anything else, we requested cutlery. Unfortunately the standard of food was poor. Was not restaurant standard food, as in if you are paying, it should be of a high standard and certainly not below average. Mixed mushroom linguine, was a mix of just 2 types of mushroom and were sparse in the dish. The lasagne was incredibly bland and tasteless, unseasoned, really poor effort. Shame.

I was disappointed with my Linguine Al Tartufo, which didn’t have a trace of truffle flavour and no evidence of the truffle pesto which was supposed to be an ingredient. I asked for more truffle oil which didn’t add any truffle flavour. I tasted the truffle oil on its own and it tasted of plain EVOO. My truffle oil at home is worlds apart. My daughters pizza was delicious though, the surroundings were nice, great service. I might be back but definitely not for truffles!

Fabulous pasta and pizza menu, the latter being beautifully prepared by Sadiq before your very eyes.And, of course, their Risotto is freshly made too, so please be prepared to wait! Desserts include a wonderful Pistachio Tartufo.It’s a small but perfect Italian restaurant. Do visit: you will not be disappointed.

4,5. Very good pizza. The doe is great. Not giving 5 stars just because it isn’t the best pizza I have had. To a non Italian person this should definitely be a 5 star place if you want authentic Italian pizza.

Basic pizza and a gluten free margarita pizza. Shocked to find out the gluten free one was £4 more just for a base. Gluten free was nice but expensive, even more than London.
