The food was ok chicken a bit overcooked. But sadly when we asked for my leftover madras and partners korma to be boxed once we arrived home we noticed they had put the meats together in one box and the rice together in another so we couldn’t use it due too the fact it was all mixed in together so very unprofessional

We've not had a takeaway from here for a while. but will be back as it was really nice.

My first time eating here. Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and the food was great. It was a very chilled environment and the price of the food is very reasonable 👌 I will be back again I'm the future 😀

Relaxed and chilled atmosphere, food was great, service was great and staff are very friendly. Prices for food is very reasonable and we had a lovely evening here. I would say the restaurant is also child friendly, we had a 5 and 8 year old with us who were both content the entire meal.

came here for a meal with my brother, staff were so welcoming and friendly, fast attentive service and food was amazing so fresh and flavourful! Shah was the loveliest guy and made time to speak with us which made it that extra bit special :) first time coming here and will definitely be returning!!

My first time ever here, went with a group of guys and we were well looked after by waiting staff. The food was really nice as well ~ no ill effects the following day. June 2024 : Nothing has changed ~ still good food and very pleasant waiters too.

Just finished eating and coming back home from varandah. Fine dine kind of experience with table cloth & cutlery. ✅ Prompt service and well organised staff✅ Ambiance was decent with warm inviting lighting ✅ Food was good too ✅ specially pappadums with chutneys. Garlic mushroom was tasty but too salty! 🙄 In mains tarka daal was delicious but could have been better with more of a tarka. (was kind of blend) and we tried vegetable tikka morrisa which was more of a onion tikka*****literally one full sliced white onion in tikka spicy gravy. Flop 👎 Highlight was GARLIC NAAN. 👌 ✅ Fluffy and full of flavour. Pure delish. Can have it on its own. Overall it was a decent experience at Varandah. We are from London city so don't know about when we'll go back. Anyway. Try it. Review it. Thank you.

Nothing massively wrong with this place but wouldn't recommend it... Food wasn't really anything to write home about and others in the party said their meals were pretty bland. Poppadoms definitely weren't fresh either. Given the choice of restaurants in Berkhamstead I'd choose somewhere else.

Friendly staff however when the food arrived I queried if the curry they gave me was what I had ordered. The waiter said he’d check with chef and didn’t come back to us with any answer. I then asked him again as the curry was totally different to what I ordered, to go and check this but again he didn’t bother. The food at best was very bland and I would suggest if you like a bit of spice in your curry maybe try one out of Tesco.

I am editing this review to reflect how the food actually tasted as I just needed to get the point across that drinks for customers shouldn’t mingle with drinks for restaurant! The food wasn’t half bad and we got a lot for the price but it lacked a lot of the flavor I have with similar Indian dishes. I know because I am boring and always order the same thing whenever I go to an Indian restaurant. Pros: Fast/good delivery service and Portion size. Neutrals: Food wasn’t particularly special. Cons: Just a little bit more care with what is being sent to customers. For that reason I think it’s fair to give 3/5.

What a fabulous evening we had in the Verandah. We had two tables 25 of us in total, the food and service was spot on, I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a lovely evening out!

Fabulous food, fabulous service - moved to France in 2019 and returned to visit friends and have a curry! The Maitre D remembered us, despite us not having visited for 4 years! Can't recommend highly enough - all dishes ordered were excellent quality- Chattinad delicious as ever, can't wait for our next trip!

the restaurant looked good from the out side , so we decided to book a table for 10. The staff were unpleasant and the food was very average and cold definitely reheated in the microwave. definitely won’t be visiting again.

Just had my second curry takeaway from here. First one was not my taste and thought I'd ordered incorrectly. Tonight asked for the same dish (Lamb Koraigh) with sauce. Tasteless with little spice to convince me it was a curry and not worth the problem of parking near and collecting this. If this is the standard of food from this establishment I'm not sure the locals have tasted better elsewhere. Pity! I will not be going back. Wish Id gone home and put the chicken and leak pie in the oven. Id say it was the equivalent of going to watch a horror movie and ending up watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

A group of us ladies dined at Verandah on a Tuesday night and took advantage of the banquet night which was incredible value! The food was superb, the service was impeccable and the restaurant is very comfortable. I can 100% recommend Verandah to anyone looking for high quality Indian cuisine at very reasonable prices.

We had a selection of 7 or so small dishes from the vegetarian menu, a few naan breads and rice. Everything was excellent and the service even better. In the absence of a specific tea, the manager scoured their stock to present every possible option for one of our party. They went out of their way to accommodate us, I'd definitely recommend Verandah.

Very average and made us pay cash. I’ve been going here a while and it’s riding on its reputation rather than being a quality Indian restaurant. Felt like I was part of a money laundering scheme tonight. Won’t be going back.

Berkhamsted has many restaurants, this doesn’t need to be one of them. Made us pay cash without any sort of apology and the food was average at best.

Best curry I’ve had in years from a local berko take away

A group of 9 went out for a birthday celebration, we had an ok meal, but we where caught out on the service charge! when has it been the norm to add a service charge to a bill, as the first item?, and then of course, we added a 10% tip to the final amount. so low and behold we paid over £80.00, and when we were paying the bill, the staff didn't explain that service had already been added!! you could say it was a mistake, or sharp practice?

Another very enjoyable visit to our favourite Berkhamsted restaurant. The delicious food never fails to please, next time I must resist my favourite dish, Chicken Nawabi , and order something new. It's not only the food but the service and friendliness are also 1st class. Looking forward to our next visit already.

Booked a table for 4 well over a month ago via the restaurant online method...confirmed at time of booking....recieved further email day before confirming booking....get to restaurant...no booking....oh really...will squeeze you in...another table came in after...no booking...get seated before us. Food lovely...no complimentary drink..bit underwhelmed or apology...so moral of this story...check your online booking...

Very poor customer service, rude Management, never recommended. We went, ordered some drink, then when we ordered the waiter said he don’t take order for small amounts and ask us to leave the restaurant, he didn’t tell about minimum order amount when we sit and order drink, and then both water and manager/owner become so much rude and force us to leave the restaurant and force us to pat for the drink that even not taken.

Good food, clean and tidy modern decor and attentive staff. Toilets need a facelift though.

First visit to this restaurant after passing it by many times was greeted with a smile when walked through the door we choose food from there Sunday buffet menu all was ok very typical of Indian cuisine wasn’t as good as the fat Buddha across the road quite small portions but enough but it was the smallest onion Bhaji I’ve ever had in a Indian restaurant the waiters were very pleasant found the drinks a rip off £4.50 for a pint of coke They won’t serve water from the tap you can only purchase bottled water plus if you want to take food home with you expect to shell out another £3.50 for the containers to take home your already purchased food find this as poor customer service so I can’t see me rushing back there any time soon sorry

Good food and great selection of dishes. This is not a pretentious restaurant and staff are very friendly. Some of the chicken tikka was slightly dry but my go to lamb madras dish was spot on - sauce was delicious and portions are ample. Having not been out for a curry for many months this did not disappoint.

Has a provincial 1970s Hemel vibe. However, the food and service are very good and the prices are reasonable. Menu has a wider selection of dishes than is usual. Worth it.

The house specials are delicious, particularly the Khazana and Shatkora.

Fantastic prices here. It's a wonder that can keep it going. The food is fine if not tantalising but certainly palatable for a weekday when you just cant be bothered to cook.

The food was disappointing and service took a long time. I would have expected better .

This is the first time since this COVID 19 that we have been into a restaurant. We booked for 6 30, thinking it would be quiet. Unfortunately a group 26 , 16 - 20 year olds arrived. No face masks, no social distancing. Felt very unsafe could not wait to leave. We won’t be going in there again and probably will stay at home and order take away.

We eat from Verandah at least 3 times a month and usually the food is great. Unfortunately our takeaway we received yesterday, although was on time, was poor. The butter chicken and the Jalfrezi did not taste of anything. There was no flavour and it was just a couple of bits of chicken in a completely bland sauce. The naan bread had no garlic taste although was meant to be cheese and garlic and was quite burnt. We are so disappointed. We did inform just eat last night but are yet to hear anything back from them or the restaurant in question.

As ever the staff are fantastic. We had ordered a takeaway previously and one dish (out of many) was missed and another sent in error. I rang up and was immediately offered a replacement, however I opted for a free dish next time around. Next order it was mentioned and we were immediately given our free dish no questions. Always tasty food.

Very friendly staff. We normally order a takeaway but thought with the current situation, it would be nice to get out of the house. We ventured out with the family. All the staff were very attentive, safe distance, made us feel so welcome from the moment we entered. The food was lovely and it certainly was so lovely too enjoy it after a stressful of weeks. In these challenging times we had a very tasty dinner from the Verandah last night. Portions were generous and the food was hot.

We hadn't booked but were warmly welcomed and offered a choice of tables. Very polite service. Good choice of dishes on the menu. Food was tasty and good portions. A little too much for me but 'carry out' was immediately offered. Parking on the road. Very large restaurant and if anything my comment would be to make the decor more cosy

My wife and I visited on a whim on a Friday night, the staff were lovely and got us settled. We ordered the seafood moilee and paneer prawns. The seafood moilee was gorgeous and we used the naan to mop up every last bit. Would definitely come again

Restaurant you will not be disappointed such lovely people and cannot do enough to help,. No waiting around great place and atmosphere

We ordered a takeaway over the phone and I spoke to a very charming gentleman who took the order and repeated back to me as we went to ensure correct dishes. When we collected the food it was right on time and filled the car with glorious aromas. The quality of the meat was great and the dishes were fresh and flavourful with a good luck of spice. A really lovely meal.
