Okay, prices might be a little higher than you might expect but they don’t take the mickey. I must confess that the full English breakfast and the bacon bap far exceeded expectations both in the amount you get and the quality! The bacon and cheese burger was also very good and tasty even though it was a bit pricey but then nothing is cheap nowadays and they do use quality ingredients. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Admittedly if you are feeding the family it can add up but will be using the cafe again.

Lovely food etc but extremely over priced. So hard for families to afford. Even the ice creams!! Staff always lovely and friendly.

An absolutely cracking cafe! I highly recommend a visit if you’re in south hams. We spent the day at bigbury beach and were fed and watered by excellent staff and delicious food!

We’ve had coffee and food here before but never the breakfast. It didn’t disappoint. Lovely breakfast served in the indoor seating with the most amazing views

£7.99 for a sausage bap, at most places you would get a full breakfast for that price and more. Never again, it's not sustainable at that price.

Staff were great but.... Breakfast wrap was 7.99 and quite small. Worse thing was they were pre made and just heated in the microwave, can't say it's what I'd call freshly made but the views are fantastic so you pay the price 👌🏻

Ate here several times and all the food was lovely hence why we went back for more. The ice cream in a tub is delicious. Bacon bap was really tasty, I would recommend going to eat here and I will be going back

Went for a quick snack before a trip to the beach. Had the bang bang chicken was OK although it could have done with a bit more sriracha sauce as I didn't really detect any 'bang'. However, while we were eating we were entertained by a large rat that was hunting for morsels on the decking. It was successful and sat happily munching. That makes me wonder how many others there are and how meticulous the cafe is at clearing up food waste.

Had a chocolate milk shake and was really looking forward to it after reading the description on the website. Very disappointed. Definitely not worth the £3.99. Won't be returning

Stopped by for breakfast before heading home. We had a delicious full English and veggie full breakfast. The staff were friendly, and we were impressed with their eco-friendly coffee cups too. Definitely worth stopping by for food with a fabulous view.

We stopped for lunch x beautiful views over the sea and beach. Had an icecream for our dog! Was a long queue so thought it maybe some time but was super quick and moved to collection point and food was ready right away. The chicken wraps where delicious x glad we decided to stop x excellent service and quality tasty food!

Went twice, once for lunch and once for breakfast. Both times the food was good. It is not the cheapest burger you will get but it is of good quality, as was the breakfast we had on the other occasion we went in. They have upgraded the seating for inclement weather since we were last there which, in the teeth of some very cold North Easterly winds was very welcome. Sometimes all the recyclable plates and wooden cutlery feels a little forced but still worth finding!

It's February half term and we had two kids and the dog in tow, everyone was hungry and it started to rain... but disaster was averted thanks to the Venus cafe! We were SO happy (and relieved) to come across this place! The food was delicious - they have a really wide range of options from cheesy chips and decent chicken burgers to tacos and even crab bisque. The coffee was excellent, there were thick wedges of cake available, and a huge range of ice cream. Plus a really lovely seating area overlooking the surf, and water and biscuits for the dog. And smily helpful staff (thanks to Rachel, who was so lovely to our dog). There's not much better than when the whole family are happy and you're sitting in the warm with good food on a cold day, watching surfers and windsurfers - and a few brave souls trying out the fliteboard (hydrofoil surf board). The surf rental place is next door if you're feeling brave. We enjoyed watching the sea tractor too - it goes back and forth from Burgh Island (costs £2 a ride). Definitely a recommend - the kids are still comparing other holiday food options to THOSE Venus cheesy chips. Next time we're in the area, we'll definitely be back.

We love Bigbury on Sea so whilst staying in Torcross we cam for a visit, we decided to have lunch at Venus Cafe. Most of the food was very expensive, we all opted for either bacon or sausage bap, it was tasty and plenty of filling. They have extended the seating area and it has lovely views over the bay.

£32 for a sandwich, chips and a drink for 3 people. If you are on a budget, bring a picnic. Food was ok- a meal deal from a supermarket would have been much better.

Excellent food and service in an amazing location. Sitting on the seafront with a lovely coffee and breakfast was just perfect thank you.

After struggling to pay for parking by phone (awful WiFi- I used coins then when in the sea toooed up by app as better signal there lol!!) we got nice icecream and brekky at Venus cafe :) nearby to clean public toilets too x

My partner and I arrived at Bigbury on a glorious July morning and immediately made for the Venus as we were both hungry and fancied a breakfast. Great location, friendly staff. We both ordered double egg, bacon, beans, toast, coffee and two slices of cake. £33!!!!!! Ok, well lets see what comes. What eventually arrived was frankly embarrassing. Two of the smallest eggs I've ever seen. I actually thought they might be quails eggs they were that small. One rasher of thin bacon, and a spoonful or two of beans. The only good thing was the toast. I work in catering myself, and would always think twice about rubbishing fellow workers in the same trade as myself but frankly this was a total disgraceful offering. For £33 I would certainly expect something far better than what we got here. The worst value for money of any meal I've ever had. Total rip off.

Truly excellent snack food - had prawn tacos and chicken wraps which were superb, with excellent chips and great customer service. If you are contemplating the Pilchard Inn, don't bother and go to Venus!

Located on steps down to beach, Venus offer a wide choice in their offer of take aways for the beach. Very impressed with their environment concerns to avoid plastic, all food served in compostable containers. Service from team was excellent

We arrived up from the beach with some hungry mouths to feed and were pleasantly surprised when the queue moved very quickly and the service and food was brilliant. I would highly recommend it.

We sat inside with our dogs as it was raining , the lady who took our order was very friendly . Our food and drinks arrived very quickly We found the meal deals quite reasonably priced.

No competition - so overpriced. The cafe is situated in a lovely position, overlooking Burgh Island, but you can get coffee a lot cheaper in London!

Limited options on a Tuesday meant that we had no option but to get lunch here. It's a hike up to the Venus from the beach, so we opted to take everything down to the beach for a picnic. There was a good selection of options from bacon butties to chicken Caesar wraps, hot drinks and cold, there were meal deals, and you didn't have to have chips with everything. Yes it's a little pricey but it's in a convenient place and I could not fault the speed and friendliness of the service nor the quality of the food and drinks we bought.

We visited for coffee and the lady couldn’t have been more helpful. Although we didn’t eat the food was delivered to tables in a bag with a table set up for people to get sauces, serviette’s etc. Highly Recommend

Location is beautiful and staff were kind, but I just couldn’t get over the prices. The chicken main I ordered was tasty but I had ordered a vanilla milkshake and they gave me what is more similar to ice cream in a coffee cup. I was disappointed because it was expensive and not worth the money.

We always come to Bigbury and I have to say that this little cafe never disappoints. The staff always lovely. The best cup of tea ever! We’ve eaten a few times and it is always really nice. Perfect little beach cafe!

Arrived in Devon on the first day of our holiday, and after our car broke down and we were stuck in the rain, this cafe was a real port in a storm! Service was friendly, with lovely, reasonably priced food, and the most stunning view (even in the pouring rain!) We had cream teas, sausage rolls, and lots of tea and coffee while we waited for the AA to arrive, and got to enjoy the beautiful view in the process.

Just when you thought Dick turpin was dead...along comes the Venus cafe robbing people blind....we all expect to pay something but this is shameful....very short sighted profit making ....but we wouldn’t be robbed twice.. and the food was sub standard to add insult to injury.

Food was ok but the chips were not warm. Long queue. Seating outside but with no view of the beach. Filled a hole but don’t make a special trip.

We ordered large portion Fish & chips the lady at the till told the young man what we wanted and he produced it straight away to her surprise. When I opened up the box it contained three pieces of very small dry fish that had not seen the sea for some time plus the chips were of varying degrees of brown ,the tub of tartare sauce was starting to congeal around the edges. The person who served this apology for a meal wore his hair in a top knot and was supercilious and totally nonchalant . As soon as I complained he offered me a refund , I just hope it goes back on my card as he says it will .

We first visited this cafe on a nice day for a take-away wrap at lunch time. This was enormous (we shared) and really excellent.Then we went again on two consecutive days with our daughter and toddling granddaugher. The weather was terrible and it was a real relief to get in from the wind and rain! The coffee and flap jacks were lovely. The staff were efficient and friendly and no one minded our little granddaughter running about.On a nice day it would be lovely to sit outside and enjoy the views! For us being inside was a bonus and we all liked the pretty fairy lights on the ceiling. It was very clean.If you are at Bigbury don’t miss it.

Grotesquely overpriced. Charging £3 for ice creams in a pot this size of a thimble. Same with chips - paltry portion and expensive.

The worst burger I’ve ever experienced, barely cooked tasteless mush , served pre cooked from a hot cupboard, never again . Two stars because the service was friendly

Loved dropping in here and looking out to sea. Speedy and friendly service, and I love the menu which is great for veggies too. Several types of vegan ice cream to choose from. Terrific chips. full marks!

On a very blustery day we visited the Venus cafe. The two guys who were front of house were both welcoming, polite and efficient. The food was delicious and in these current times of Covid, the service was very good. Thank you to all involved

This cafe is a total rip off. £6.50 for an Americano coffee and cappuccino! (requested with no chocolate on top) Are you serious? That’s more than London prices! Made worse by the fact we were then served a double espresso and a cappuccino WITH chocolate. The Cappuccino was flat because the milk had been frothed too hard or too long and therefore wasn’t a cappuccino. It was far too hot and filled so high that you had to sip from the top of the cup before picking it up. Seriously if you have the audacity to charge that much please get the order right and ensure that they are made properly. I could have definitely done better myself by a long way. Just because you’re opposite the Burgh Island Hotel doesn’t give you the right to charge silly prices for substandard beverages.

One rating is purely for location. We have been away for five weeks & this is the worst coffee we have ever had. If you like barely warm watered down milk to drink, you will be fine. Even the shortbread wasn’t brilliant.I have read some of the reviews for this place & cant believe there talking about the same place.

This cafe is great and quite cheap. Good menu that accommodates vegans. Service is quick and with a smile. The coffee is amazing.

My wife checked the reviews prior to our visit and the reviews were spot on with the coffee and the food especially the vegan choices as well - great service and fairly good prices.Eat here instead of on the island.Recommended.Enjoy.

Wandered over here when we wanted a quick snack and the Pilchard Inn was busy and slow ( I'm sure they were doing their best in difficult circumstances ). A very cheerful young man was handling a limited takeaway menu extremely efficiently. Pre packaged sandwich turned out to be very fresh and tasty and the coffee very good. Just what we needed!

We use venus cafe a lot for chips etc for my daughter after surfing .But we went for breakfast sat and asked for a hash brown to be put in a egg roll put we were flatly refused , saying it could only be supplied with it. How hard a task is it. I had a breakfast roll which basically was bacon and egg Also asked for an extra sausage which we were going to be charged £2.75 for .At least dick turpin wore a mask when he was robbing people.

Came across this cafe on a trip to view the island. Lovely fresh sandwiches that were packed with ingredients. It was very busy but the service was quick and glad our group gave it a try. Would definitely return when in the area again.

Annual holiday to Bigbury on Sea, looking forward to our morning coffee from Venus cafe. Sorry to report it has gone downhill this year, much to the benefit of the Beach Barista. Can't fault the service, and the Pasties are top notch. Like the effort made with the new eating area and the ecological and locally sourced principals remain. Should be easy to fix I think. One staff member said the machine on the left is worse than the one on the right. Rumour has it the "beans" have been changed this year. We'll keep our loyalty card and cross our fingers for next year x

We drove over from Plymouth, found the sunshine, it’s over 20 years since I’ve been here and Hope Cove and it was just lovely - Safe, good food, prices a “little” high we thought and the meal deals not much of a better deal, but hey, these are difficult times and the staff were all doing a great job. Lovely pastie Meal Deal, lovely Prawn wrap and great burger - with chips!

It’s a good cafe, stopped for ice cream so can’t comment on other food but I think it’s reasonably priced for most things considering the location etc.

Been to various Venus's in various Devon locations. Was at Bigbury in July and it is great for what it does. Decent quality food and service with an ethical compass. Sure its not the cheapest Sandwich in Devon but to operate int he locations they do and still be able to deliver some provenance and quality is great. I only wish more cafes were available on beach locations around the country meaning we could hit the beaches knowing we could get a decent bite and keep one eye on the planet avoiding having to take pre-packed or suffer greasy or cardboard beach food. Good for you Venus!

We paid £14.50 for two caesar chicken wraps and a cup of tea. At that price, we expected the wraps to be freshly made and hot but they came pre-packed. The quality was awful and it didn’t taste great either. The were also very small. Very disappointed as we could have saved a lot of money buying something nicer from a convenience store.

Drove down to Bigbury on Sea to watch the waves at the end of Storm Ciara.The Venus cafe was actually open!!!Nobody about but we gave them our custom and glad we did. Enjoyed hot coffees and delicious Cornish pasties in our car.. out of the wind and rain and hail. Staff were really friendly and chatty.

This cafe is situated in the car park with fantastic views across the beach. The Sodabread Tuna Melt was one of the best I have ever had. Other members of my group had Bacon Rolls which also went down rather well.

Simple out of season fare & great coffee.In mid Nov you just get kiosk service but after a blowy walk to Burgh Island and back it’s just what you need !Super tasting coffee and an epic beef pasty - not allowed to say Cornish pasty of course being in Devon- served hot Guy serving was a delight, chatty and helpful - lovely spot !

We are staying by the beach at Bigbury On Sea and stopped by to have a lunchtime meal at the Venus cafe. The only other local eatery is the Pilchard Inn which has terrible reviews, so although there is only outside seating, the weather was sunny and dry so not a problem. My husband and I both had a cheeseburger and chips which was absolutely delicious and not a small meal. We followed this with an amazing ice cream, then coffee. I hasten to add we did not eat again for the rest of the day. It was an absolutely delicious meal, we honestly have not tasted better for a very long time. Nick one of the Managers brought our food out to us, he was very helpful and told us about their other cafes with inside seating which also has dog beds (we have two dogs). Our only regret is that their winter hours are not longer as we would most likely order takeaway every night while we are here. Well done guys, great experience.

Nice cafe on the lower car park. Food an drink for all an there are toilets there too. Nice just to sit an watch the sea.

Organic food & environmentally friendly - very impressed! We were lucky with timing as surfers & bikers had just left, so hardly any queue (there was a long wait earlier), & the bacon bap I had was honestly the best ever from a cafe. Nice cheery staff too.

Lovely burgers, really moist and fresh, well worth the money. The fries were also very crispy and fresh, so yummy. Everything was in recyclable plant or paper packaging, no plastic waste at all. Only gave four stars as the hot and cold drinks both came in the same size, so the cold drinks were way too small.

Great location right on the beach but what I liked most was that everything they sold came in packaging that could be recycled. Why cant the big coffee shops use paper cups and lids instead of the plastic lined ones. I was happy to pay about 50p more than Costa for the convenience and conscience. Well done Venus.

Visited here after walking Bigbury-On-Sea beach and across to the island, climbing to the top and seeing the views. Great burgers, great staff, quick service but it was very windy and there was not a lot of people ordering. I would highly recommend the king prawn, katsu burger it was lush! No frills place, no cutlery, jus boxes and bags - doing their bit for the environment.

Waited over 20 minutes for 2 meals, hugely overpriced and eventually I gave up waiting as was told they’d take 10 minutes more. Staff came across as arrogant and insincere. Really spoilt a nice day at the beach and left me feeling really angry.

Arrived at the beach and wanted a snack and drink. Found food very over priced and portions small. I understand it’s next to the beach but prices were ridiculous. The most ridiculous price of all was £2.40 for a Coke Zero, at a push I would have thought that this for a bottle of Coke would be ok, but then I got presented with a very small disposable coffee cup, I asked if this was my Coke and was told yes. I’m sorry but at least have a can or an actual soft drink cup size. I couldn’t believe it and felt very ripped off!!

Disappointed that the coffee has gone downhill. We've stayed in Bigbury for seven summers and the coffee and millionaire caramel shortbread have always been a highlight. The millionaires are now half the size which is understandable, but really disappointed with the coffee. We now go to Barrista on the beach, great Flat Whites but longer queue...says it all.

I had the classic burger and chips which was freshly made it was the best burger i had ever eaten and it was not messy or greasy at all. They also sell sandwiches and other hot meals such as tuna melts. Also they are completely plastic free which i really appreciate because it keeps the sea and sea life looking beautiful!

We’ve been coming to this beach for 40 years. It’s stunning. Many happy memories. We’ve used the Venus cafe on a number of occasions. However, yesterday at about 4 .30pm we ordered chicken burgers & chips x 2. With drinks, came close to £30. So not cheap. Chips were ok. The so called chicken burgers, were horrible. No salad. No dressing. No spread. Rolls were all but stale.The 2 small pieces of chicken were rock solid. Almost impossible to swallow. They weren’t particularly busy, a few other couples eating. We really should have complained. It seemed to be staffed by a few youngsters. Perhaps they need supervision ? Will stick to our picnics in future when we come.

Lovely location and great coffee, all served in recyclable cups. Food was nice and tasty but quite expensive. £28 for 4 coffees, a sausage roll, pasty and toasted sandwich.

The offering is fairly basic but if you have come without a picnic you should be able to find something to eat. Like the water in cans but £2 for a can. Sorry I had forgotten my own reusable bottle which is a rare event for me.

Outside dining with a wonderful view and very convenient loos. South Devon coast at it's best from Bolt tail to the headland of the Yealm.Better when weather is dry but always very tasty cafe food at reasonable prices. Bigbury beach is at the foot of the steps alongside the Cafe.

Absolutely lovely food and divine latte, and not a piece of plastic to be seen, it's in a beautiful setting.

We just planned to stop for a coffee after visiting this gorgeous beach yesterday but ended up staying for lunch too. I’m no coffee expert but we both really enjoyed the coffee compared to other places we’d visited, the staff were friendly and helpful (locating a high chair for us and doing toast for our toddler etc) and the toasted sandwiches we both had were yummy. Their effort to be environmentally friendly was just fantastic, highly recommend! We had a beautiful sunny day, all the seating is outside and the toilets are the public beach ones which are luckily close by and were perfectly clean when we visited.

We came here for a quick snack having seen a sign after we had visited burgh island. We were all really pleased with our choices, only slight disappointment was no indoor seating and unfortunately we picked a cold and windy day for our visit.

Katsu prawn burger not something I have ever heard of. Really good! Good value, friendly staff and impressed by their efforts on environmental impact of packaging etc.

Visited here for lunch, it was very busy but staff were pleasant, sandwiches were fine, little ones had fish finger and chips although quite expensive it was very good and freshly cooked. Find previous review very odd as cafe does not have toilets they are public toilets.

The staff here are excellent. The chips are so much better than they used to be and on the whole food is good but the chicken Burger and chicken strips are like eating Gandhi’s sandal! Really dry and unappetising which is a shame. If they can sort the chicken offering out (oh and change cheese suppliers) it would be the perfect beachside cafe....

During a fresh and windy walk on the beach, we stopped at the Venus Cafe for lunch. Even if the place doesn't have any sheltered spot, it is fine, even in January! Friendly staff, yummy food.

Walked over to Burgh Island and played with the dog on the beach. Then stopped at the cafe for a coffee and a pasty. Great day out.

We got a drink here after a walk on the beach on what was a pleasant Boxing Day walk. It was busy, thanks to the nice weather and there were 2 queues at the serving hatches.

Visited on a fine autumn day with family and cousins who had recommended it. Excellent menu choice from vegan to carnivore and all points in between. Most beach cafes tend to go for the "lowest common denominator" for quality but here the fare was good and locally sourced. Splendid view over the beach toward Burgh Island as well.

Visited here today, two cups of tea and a local chocolate ice cream. All were lovely. Ice cream and cone delicious and tea was excellent served in completely recyclable cups. Lady and gentleman serving were both lovely. Would go back again to try the food!

I like these guys, they buy local, the food is decent, they have never used plastic straws and they have the most spectacular view. It’s not super cheap but it’s normally good quality and when the alternative is the pilchard new cafe which is slow, overpriced and not with the same local ethos or ingredients, I’d choose the Venus every time

After an awful experience at the Venus cafe in Dartington, we gave this one a go and were really glad we did. Despite being after 11.30, when breakfast items normally stop being served, the chef said he’d cook us a bacon bap. It was perfect! Great coffee too and friendly service. This place is a great asset to bigbury bay and a welcome stop for walkers.

Just what you need from a beach cafe but unlike a lot of others it's really well organised. Plenty of ham in our sarnies and decent coffee. Tables outside with a great view of the beach.

A busy beach take-away cafe, which delivers what it promises; burgers, paninis, pasties etc., uncomplicated fare, quickly served by friendly staff.

This was the ideal lunch stop for us as we were walking on the coast path from Ayrmer Cove to Bantham Beach. I had a classic burger and my wife had a hummus wrap. The ingredients are locally sourced and my burger tasted very good. Service at the hatch window is friendly and efficient. You can either take it away or sit in the covered space outside. Lovely food if you are spending the day at the beach.

After a mornings surfing lesson, the cafe is perfect. Strong teas & bacon rolls were excellant .The service was fairly quick, they were really busy & the staff were very friendly. We altered our order after it has been placed but it wasn’t a problem for them.
