We had dinner then breakfast here and were very excited as this restaurant is advertised as award winning and always uses the finest ingredients. It just couldn’t be further from the truth. Seafood pasta had only five, heavily overcooked, prawns in it. Then the pork dish didn’t include any of the sundries it advertised, rather just a clump of Bok Choi. Breakfast was a farce. Bearing in mind we paid £28 for breakfast to be included with the room. We order coffees, which are apparently £4 extra each. These arrive and are the cheapest possible capsule instant coffee possible. We then order a full English and receive the stingiest little plate of cold food, missing black pudding. It was truly terrible. We mentioned we weren’t happy with it and were brought a free Eggs Royal (which would’ve been an additional £6). We were given a couple of comically anaemic, cold and overcooked poached eggs with some simply bad tasting salmon. How this restaurant is attached to a 5* hotel is beyond me. Truly a disappointment.

I think others are being too harsh. The atmosphere for breakfast was perfectly pleasant and the food was wonderfully prepared. Maybe the portion was on a bit of the smaller side, but I thought it was a wonderful way to wake up after a lovely night at the hotel.

We have a family birthday party at the hotel and booked table for dinner. We had a great meal here, the menu is small but all good selection. I had the pea soup to start, followed by steak and peppercorns sauce. The whole meal was delicious. The waiting staff were fantastic, we had arranged a cake and this was all done very efficiently.

We didn't stay at the hotel but I had in the past so knew the restaurant. It was a special evening - a meal to celebrate our Ruby Wedding. I booked the table the day before and then later that night looked at Trip Advisor. I then seriously considered cancelling the booking. However I worked on the fact that perhaps people are more likely to complain than praise so we went as planned. Thank goodness we did. We had a lovely evening - both in the bar and restaurant. The food was lovely - the ambience was quiet but welcoming. The staff were brilliant - special mention to Georgio, the waiter, to Bogdan and the bar manager. All were extremely friendly. The food was superb - well priced and great quality. It was a super night and the reviews were not what we experienced. Husband loved the Bath Sling cocktail too!

Stayed for 3 nights so ate dinner in the main restaurant and afternoon tea the subsequent day and then in the lounge area on other days. The food is expensive, we had a main of chicken with vegetables which was £24, however the meal was faultless. The chicken was so moist and each flavour complimented each other. You could see the time and care that had been taken to cook and plate the meal. We also had the gnocchi as a starter which I would really really recommend (£12). The deserts again were good, we had a chocolate pot which was a good portion with homemade honeycomb and fig tart. I was impressed that when we asked our waitress which dessert wine would complement the fig she could discuss the different wines and what they offered. Certainly recommend for dinner despite it being a little pricey due to the high quality and great flavour. The only thing to add would be the wait staff were spread quite thin so it wasn’t easy trying to get someone’s attention for drinks and the room was so big which was lovely but lacking a little in atmosphere. However we were eating on a Monday night. On a separate day we had afternoon tea, again lovely and really good value.

We didn’t even get to our table due to disgraceful customer experience. I booked our Ruby Wedding Anniversary about a month ahead but minutes before we were due to leave the house we got a phone call to say are we still coming and we can’t do Sunday Lunch as chef has just said he doesn’t have the supplies. They said they we could have the à la carte menu instead so we decided, reluctantly, to go with it. When we arrived in good time we were told our table wasn’t ready and would we take a seat. I noticed men in suits were hastily arranging tables for a large party but sat down and waited, and waited! After about 20 plus minutes I wandered into the restaurant area to see if someone would come up and seat us but no one did. The men in suits proceeded to walk past us as we sat waiting and we’re fussing with air spray. Then a large party were ushered in and seated. I went to the reception desk this time and expressed my dissatisfaction. Still no action. I then presented myself again in the restaurant and a waitress asked if she could help?! Yes please but my frustration boiled over and one of the men in suits appeared. He apologised and ask me to take a table but by then I just didn’t feel like eating there and we walked out, disgruntled at our 2nd class treatment. Thankfully the Bird Hotel just down the road rescued our special day. While there the restaurant manager rang to offer a complimentary meal and I said thanks but please pop it an email as I was still calming down. It’s a week now and, of course, no email or any other message has been forthcoming, hence this dqmning review. We know we don’t want to return ever and I strongly advise anyone to NEVER SET FOOT IN THIS PLACE!

The presentation of each dish was creative and stylish and the portion sizes just right. My white chocolate panna cotta was very rich and so delicious! We stayed at the hotel and had a 3-course dinner with a bottle of wine at the restaurant. We've never dined in such a grand hall, so it was something different to experience. This restaurant is hugely underwhelming for the price. The dining hall is drab and boring.. it feels like a wake for a funeral. The food quality and cooking is so poor it's unbelievable. They charged £30 for a badly cook steak which was of poor quality meat. A small (cup size) chips was £7 and they were average at best. At breakfast, the Eggs Benedict was pretty much anaemic. The eggs were over cooked and looked like they were shop bought rather than sourced from any local farm etc - you can tell farm bought eggs because they look almost orange in the yoke. These were a pale yellow indicating the chickens didn't go out much / kept in barns. I am sure there are many good restaurants to try in Bath that you could find through Google maps. Definitely give this one a miss.

The staff were very friendly and attentive but the food was very overpriced for what it was. The atmosphere is not the greatest, not very intimate and a bit awkward. I had scallops to begin and at £20 for a starter you expect excellent quality, however the scallop was cooked ok but the broth was under seasoned and a little bit bland. The main wasn’t horrible and plated well, but very basic flavours. Again, under seasoned. It was a basic roast, just less of it with pea skids. If it was pub grub prices I would have given it a lot more, but it wasn’t. I think they need to work on the ambience and perhaps be more generous with the flavours.

After a flight from the US and a full day in London, we decided to take a day relaxing and just eat at our hotel. Vellore is the upscale restaurant at the Bath Spa Hotel and it did not disappoint. Our afternoon tea was delightful, and made even better by the Platinum Jubilee themed sweets. The earl grey was some of the best I've had. Even the bottom of my first pot was mellow with the slightest hint of citrus. The finger sandwiches the day we visited consisted of 4 varieties. The expected chicken salad, and smoked salmon were very well done, and both the cucumber and the pickled cucumber were light and fresh. The brought two towers and I shared one with my vegetarian daughter so I think we may have had a few substitutions, one of which was a curry-based sandwich. The scones were fresh with clotted cream and raspberry preserves, and the assortment of sweets were decadent. Dinner was equally good. The menu isn't large, but it was very good. My wife's steak was cooked to the perfect temperature, the monkfish was well prepared with potatoes my daughter said were amazing. My duck was perfection. The perhaps could have seared the skin just a bit more to render more of the fat, but the confit bon bon (basically a round, fried fritter) was crisp with a melt in your mouth center. The drinks were expertly made. The basil gin smash was perfect if you like spirit forward drinks that are more herbaceous than sweet. And the desserts were top notch. My lemon meringue had varying levels of sweet and tart and many textures from the creamy custard, to the crispy meringue, small dices of jello like cubes and sweet candied lemon peel. If you're looking to splurge and appreciate artistry and taste over portion size, I highly recommend it.

Four of us went to lunch at the Vellore for a special occasion. The restaurant is in a beautiful room which was originally the ballroom. The service was excellent with very well trained staff looking immaculate in their uniforms, they were all very helpful. We all chose different dishes which were perfectly cooked and presented. The menu was imaginative and offered something for everyone. My venison was the best I have ever tasted. We go to bath spa hotel for different reasons on different occasions. This evening we went there to dine, food was good not great, however we received the most terrible service ever. To begin with, we arrive there a bit early and we were sat down almost in time but it went down the hill from there. We had to wait for over 20 minutes just to be seen, once they had our order we had to wait for over forty minutes to get our food, when we finished our food took them over ten minutes just to take the plates away ( seriously!!!!)and we asked for dessert menu, guess what??? we had to wait for nearly twenty five minutes just to get the menu. The young chap who was serving us, did confirm that we could have a free glass of prosecco or free dessert, we chose our desserts and they arrive on a timely manner which was the only thing that went right during the evening as we were one of the very last customers, by the time we had our meal we were sat down for over two and half hours. At last we had our bill and went home just to realise that we were charged for our desserts. I think Bath spa hotel management lost their touch and I don't think we'll go there ever again.

As I had reviewed this in the wrong place, have now included it here. Dont know what the hotels room are like, but we arrived for a booked table, via Tastecard app. At first we were taken to the posh Hotel Restaurant only to find the booking wasnt in their list, but got a table for our small party. We then realised there was more than one restaurant and asked if we should go through to that. The waiters were excellent and ushered us around to the other restaurant, which when we looked at the menu, only did sandwiches and had no ambience. So after telling the staff at this part we were going back to the other restaurant, they gathered us up and off we went. The head waiter said he thought we would be back and had left our table for us. So duly sat and ordered Steaks and also Chicken dishes. Although the meal prices looked a bit expensive, they were not as expensive as another hotel just on the outskirts, which was a surprise. When the meals came, they were cooked to near perfection and although new cuisine doesnt look enough, they were full of flavour and were quite filling, which was a complement to the chef really. We had a bottle of wine, but it seems a lager shandy is something that eludes them, but what came out was enjoyable and tasty even if there was no alchohol (but i was the driver). We each ordered deserts which were just enough to finish off the meal. We sat chatting with the staff at most changes in menu and they were very pleasant and we had made them laugh as they did us. With the discount on this meal card the whole sitting came to little over what it would cost in a pub overall and was well worth the experience. A good night was had by all.

My sister and I took a day trip to Bath, and decided to book an "luxury" afternoon tea to wrap up our day. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who took us to the Drawing Room to be seated for our tea. However, the illusion of luxury ended there. The tea itself was served in stained, dirty, metal teapots with teabags floating inside –– no loose-leaf tea to be found (even though there were tea strainers sitting on the table). Although well presented, the pastries, scones, and sandwiches on the cake stand had obviously been sitting in the refrigerator for an extended period of time and were most likely not freshly prepared. The service was abrupt, and the two members of staff who served us in the Drawing Room gave off the feeling that they'd rather be anywhere else. The tea was dropped on our table and the staff disappeared; I had to go into the other room to find a member of staff who could help me pay the bill (which was sky-high, and not the price advertised on the website or menus). Overall, we were extremely disappointed by this overpriced tea that was not worth a single pound that we paid.

But the whole meal, which was for a special occasion, was ruined a) by the awful electronic piano music (so bad it is almost funny, Les Dawson played the piano better !) b) worst was the service which for a 5 star hotel restaurant was unacceptable. It seriously needs sorting out. We were literally abandoned after the main course and waited an age to be offered a dessert menu. I had to flag someone down eventually. Waitresses were clearing tables and walking around smiling rather than seeing if we wanted a dessert. We weren't the only people complaining either. Also not once during the entire meal were our drinks topped up. Real shame as we love the hotel which has good staff, a great location and looked after us very well. However the restaurant spoils it and we will never eat an evening meal in it again. The restaurant staff need to visit the Bath Priory to see how it should be done.

The menu suggested that we were likely to be let down by the food in some way - small choice, high price, extortionate extras (£4.00 for a few chips). As it was, some of the starters were insultingly small. The terrine was great and well proportioned whereas the salmon and the beef carpaccio were budgie on a diet size and did not come anywhere near justifying the price (in quality and quantity). The main courses were all good but again, slightly on the stingy side. The desserts, were OK. The wine list was reasonable but the prices were not.The service was very weak. We waited for 45 minutes having ordered our desserts only for them to miraculously appear once we had queried where they might have got to. We asked for water and the wine list only for neither to arrive. Once we had water, it was not topped up without prompt. The staff were friendly but just appeared to forget everything as soon as they were more than a few metres from the table.Overall, the food quality was a redeeming feature but the meal did not come close to justifying its cost. For a 3 course set of £45 I would expect some efficient service at the very least.

Lovely restaurant with mostly spacious tables. Delicious sounding menu, however top end prices. Had a delicious scallop and chorizo starter, followed by saddle of lamb with beetroot. Lovely wine - NZ Sauvignon e (albeit again top end prices). Good service and atmosphere. It was a shame the piano music was recorded and not live; (there is a piano in the restaurant) however still fairly effective.Would recommend.

The dining experience here was much improved from our previous visit , with the food being nicely presented and prepared, even if in my world there was to much of the haute and not enough of the cuisine . The menu selection is fairly limited and does not seem to change much daily except for some fine tuning of the accompaniments to the main ingredients . A greater menu selection would make the restaurant much more appealing. The wine list is fairly extensive and expensive , and an issue this time as last was that wines that are generally intended to be served cold were not particularly cold so in my case a wait was required whilst they chilled. For our second day staff pre-chilled our wine , so let them know, and I am sure they will do a similar thing. The staff were excellent as they had been previously, but this was in line with our findings at the rest of the hotel. On a personal note can some one turn the electric piano off please!!! The staff deserve medals for enduring the same difficult to identify muzak by the not very good electronic pianist day after day .

Overall amazing food, in particular exceptional deserts. Lobster was superb, but unfortunately my partners gnocchi was quite insubstantial (5-6 pieces) though excellent tasting. Needed side orders to really feel like a sufficient amount of food.Service was a bit slow, and was not particularly attentive, which was a surprise given that there wasn't a huge number of guests at the time. Servers were however extremely friendly, helpful, and polite.

We stayed on a special offer that included dinner. We were impressed with the dining room and staff and the choice on the menu. We decided to pay the supplement to have the beef , which was delicious and beautifully cooked. We also bought a bottle of wine , which although was fairly expensive compared to other hotels, was a very good wine. When we signed for our bill, we noticed we were charged for service on the extras we had. So the wine in fact cost £30 and the supplement charge was in fact around £10 each not £8.50 . So if you have a dinner inclusive meal, be aware of this. Also, ask for tap water...a bottle of sparkling water will set you back £5.50 plus service!Staff were attentive and the food was lovely, but I'm not sure I would choose to dine here if not included in my hotel package. Breakfast also served in this room. Nice choice of food ,cold meats, cheeses, cereals, fruit, yoghurt etc and a hot breakfast as well. No service charge for breakfast!

We used the restaurant as we were staying in the hotel for a couple of days and once was enough. The room is very grand and the piano music a nice touch but the food just doesn't quite deliver what you would expect for the price. The wine list is extortionate - nothing is under £9 per 175ml glass - be careful you don't end up with the wrong bottle, it could cost you £100. We ate at Circus and Clayton's on the next two nights and both were significantly better.

The Restaurant is very well staffed with excellent service. The menu was not to extensive which is always a good thing, but the choices were varied with a range of local produce. We stayed for 3 nights and had different meals on each night. Every meal was a delight.

We had a meal included on the first night and it was sumptuous - a mushroom risotto for the veggie (me) and chicken for the other one. The puddings were delicate and filling. All served with real class.

I was looking forward to treating my in laws to dinner and was very disappointed. While the food was excellent (we had chicken, lamb shank and salmon), I felt the portions were too small, the price too high and the service was horrible. We stayed at the hotel and I thought for convenience sake it would be nice to dine at the hotel. We had the 2 course dinner (38 pounds) and would have expected not to pay extra for veg and potato. The waiter was horrible. No sense of humor, did not engage with us and when he asked us if we were ready for the check, after waiting 20 minutes, finally had to go to the desk to sign for it. We won't be back.

A very grand restaurant with lovely staff. However, a 5 star hotel should surely change their menu daily. We met people staying for 4 and 5 nights so dinner must have been a very predictable occasion.

I have to say honestly that the service was truly awful no one knows who is doing what and no one seems to be overseeing the operation. The food wasn't up to much either. It's a shame as it's a lovely setting and could be truly spectacular.

The meal was excellent value and the food of very good quality and ethically sourced.I have a gluten intolerance which was well catered for. The heritage tomato and goats cheese salad starter was delicious and a nice size as an appetiser. My husband had the crab pasta which he said was 'very crabby'. My main was the lamb shank, cooked to perfection, falling off the bone, with roasted root vegetables and a silky smooth mashed potato. My husband, still fishy had the hake in calms and mussels and pronounced it yummy. Sadly I had no room for pudding, but stole a small piece of cheese from my husband's platter!I would definitely recommend this restaurant. The menu was a fixed price 2 or 3 courses and excellent value for money.

We very much enjoy our visits to Macdonalds hotels, and this one was no exception. The hotel is ideally situated for exploring the city as it is a short, brisk walk from the town centre. Once settled in the hotel you do not need to use the car until you leave. The only downside to the chain of hotels are the evening meals, we usually end up eating in the bar area, in this case the Vellore Restaurant as it offers a selection of food more suitable to our tastes.

The Vellore restaurant is part of the Bath Spa hotel. We dined there and had a three course diner. Service was correct and friendly without becoming too formal. Just as we liked it! Tables were laid with high quality white linen. It all looked very nice. Everything went very smooth and timings between courses were spot-on. The food itself was first rate. One could see and taste that everything was prepared to a very high standard and with a lot of love for the end result. An absolute recommendation!
