Visited the Shed once before and was appalled at the service I got , cold food and young people serving with no people skills , decided to call in today to give it a second chance , and was told the lady that was running The Shed has left , so that was good news as it's now under new management and can only get better.

We visited the Shed near Box, Bath last weekend and were extremely disappointed at the service and quality of the food and the general very shabby look of the complex.First off the car-park itself has open unshielded junction boxes where the shielding box has been broken away by careless parkers in there cars, a blatant safety hazard. The inside of the "shed" is not much better. The toilets are a disgrace, smelly, baby changing facilities are not separate and are part of the communal hand washing area (which was filthy) and the overall quality of the shops whilst some where individually quite good the whole place has a feeling of "hanging on" with not much selection and high prices. We stupidly ordered food at the restaurant as we were famished and after a 40 minute wait the burger and chips that came out were cold. Once these had been replaced it was obvious that the burger and chips had been cooked in reused vegetable oil as both tasted strongly of fish !!!! Overall really not a nice place to visit and eat at which is a shame as it's in a lovely part of the world and could be much much better.

This is the second time I have been there. The first was good no complaints but the second was awful. 1) I found a big black hair in my chicken sandwich which they replaced but I was put off by then. 2) There was a nasty smell coming from the toilets. 3) The bathroom area was desperately in need of a clean. 4) Both myself and my friend who ate there yesterday have been feeling sick since.

Popped in today with my brother, wanting to get a light lunch. However, the menu consisted purely of a selection of roast meal options. Having thrashed myself in the gym earlier, I felt that I could justify this, so my bro and I decided to go for it.He had beef, I had lamb.To cut to the chase they were both excellent, one of the finest roast meals I have eaten out of home. Vegetables, meat, potatoes, etc were perfect. I would visit again for sure. My only criticism is the staff could be better trained in service and the blonde girl would have looked much better if she smiled! I have been several times before and there seems to be a relatively high staff turnover. I make this point because service is important. Improving this would make the experience top notch, whereas it was very good! I'd definitely return and commend the chef for his talents. The final thing is the flapjacks. Have just polished off a half at home. These are most certainly the best I have ever tasted. Great venue, great food, nice staff.

we went to the shed over the bank holiday weekend for a Turkish themed evening it was our first visit here my parents live nearby. We were pleasantly surprised the surrounding shops were not open but I was still able to buy a terracotta pot! The staff were lovely and a big fire was blazing away in the eclectic styled dining room. The food was fun 4 courses lots of different flavours they had tried really hard the dips and pitta were delicious the starters were tasty especially the kebab but the mains were a bit too much. Homemade Turkish delight baklava and some yummy donuts finished us off quite literally!!! Overall a fun evening my only gripe would be too much food!!! This popular venue is great for meeting friends and family and equally good for morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea and cakes. The lunch menu caters for those who want to try something a little different (such as the butternut risotto with sage crisps and sweet potato chips, and the pistachio panna cotta was delicious - very delicate flavour) or more traditional like a rib-eye steak. The extensive selection of cakes and pastries are all made in-house by the Michelin starred chef and his talented team.

There were 8 of us and with the one bottle of wine and four soft drinks the bill was £165! Well, you might think at that price the food would be outstanding? No...it wasn't! I had pork, being Sunday roast day it was roasts only available (beef/lamb too). It was a plate of fat!! The roast potatoes were very dry, the cabbage, sweed and carrots can't be described other than yuk! It was luke warm and just dreadful. When we mentioned it to the waitress she completely ignored it, like they didn't care! I was holding out hope for dessert after not eating the main. I along with another family member ordered treacle tart! It came out stone cold! We couldn't get the spoon through it it was that cold! When we asked if it should be warm the waiter "didn't know!" He came back after asking and said it should've been warmed up!! It came back luke warm and not tasting anything like treacle tart! I never review anything much on here, but felt this had to be said! I know it's all subjective....but seriously, believe everything I've said. We definitely wouldn't return.

From the really tired furniture beyond needing reupholstered, to the warm beer, tasteless starters some served on slates too small that the food fell off them on to the table, the no better than carvery main food, my beef was almost half fat, limited choice, granted it was a Sunday, but roast was the only choice on the menu, and slightly surly and unhelpful waiting staff, the shed was a disappointment almost all round. The only saving grace was the fairly decent pudding. But we only tried one, so can't confirm whether they were all OK. And it's not cheap. For what you get it should be a lot cheaper. Definitely would not go back, which was a shame because we were really looking forward to it.

Poor service, Luke warm food, overpriced. We went to The Shed because we wanted to support local enterprises. The waiting staff who served us seemed to want to limit the interaction between themselves and the customer to the very minimum. The coffee was served after a reasonable wait but was tepid. The lunch was bland, the French fries Luke warm. Two of us were there for lunch, my companion had to wait a good 15 minutes before her meal arrived after mine. Only when asking when her meal was going to arrive did we receive an apology. My advice, don't bother there are plenty of cafes more deserving of you money and custom.

The little shops within well worth exploring and albeit they are not the cheapest some interesting products and services, would go back again as the cakes and pastries in The Shed looked very inviting.

I didn't experience any of the negative things that other reviewers wrote about the service, at least. My boyfriend and I were on our way to the tried-and-trusted Northey in Box for Sunday lunch but went past the Shed and decided to try it instead. I'd read an article by the owners/managers who said they were trying to recreate a sort of Antipodean vibe - a laid-back multi-purpose eating and retail space with a casual natural feeling. I'd say they recreated that atmosphere quite nicely; the cafe/dining room was very light and airy with quirky art on the walls, and the outside terrace reminded me of lazy sunny days dining and drinking al fresco in Australia. Not today though, as it was a cold winter day. Our order was taken promptly and arrived promptly. £12.95 for a roast is reasonable by the local standards, although you can get a roast lunch for under £10 at The Quarrymen in Box. Portions were very generous and came with a good selection of interesting if rather mushy vegetable sides - baby carrot, braised red cabbage, pumpkin puree, and creamed sour cabbage of some sort. My boyfriend's beef was commendably rare and tender, although my pork was a bit average. The temperature was tepid rather than hot, and the gravy was neither plentiful nor particularly tasty. We had arrived for a late lunch and our food tasted like it was the tail-end of the kitchen offerings. It neither offended nor pleased me really. I don't think I'll rush back in a hurry for a roast, given the blahness and the lukewarm temperature of the food. But I imagine a coffee and cake on the terrace on a sunny day would be delightful - if one can wade through the crowds of yummy mummies with their designer sprogs.

Having heard mixed reviews and read the same on trip advisor, thought we would give it a try and make up our own minds. On our way home shopping on a Tuesday afternoon we called in to get out of the rain. After browsing the shops on offer, we stopped for a coffee and cake. A table of 4 were just leaving as we took our seats. Thus leaving us as the only customers....no excuse for slack service you would think....wrong! The waitress was very apathetic and looked like she wanted to be elsewhere. We asked for a cappuccino, latte, pain au chocolat and a brownie. On arrival my latte had been slopped in the saucer and onto the tray. Seeing as the waitress looked like she was going to give it to me in that messy state, I asked for a napkin to wipe up the slop...my wasted coffee! She returned with a napkin; wiping up the slop, she put my cup on a new saucer...wrapping her hands all around the cups edge...no handle for her! No apology either or voluntary repacement for the lost coffe! After waiting 5 minutes we had to ask for the glasses of water we had also asked for. Both waitresses were stood with their backs to the side facing customers...not good really. As she turned her hair swept neatly over the cakes and counter..yuk! Then they put the music on...I'm no old fogey but it was too loud!! The staff arguing about rotas and time off at the counter didn't add to the ambience! ! Add in the scratched tea stained tables...clean but looked filthy as a result, and the torn seating didn't encourage us to stay any longer...or return!

The customer service at the shed is shocking. I visited with my mother on a friday morning for breakfast and we were not made to feel welcome at all. Everything seemed like a chore for our waitress who huffed and rolled her eyes when we requested some honey for our overcooked porridge. We also ordered a croissant, when asked where it was, after waiting 15 minutes for it, I was told it was being warmed in the oven and should just wait for it! When it did eventually arrive it was stone cold and stale! I have worked in the catering industry for many years now and good customer service is key. It doesn't take much to smile and make the customer feel important and welcome and it makes all the difference. My mother and I were made to feel extremely uncomfortable. As we were leaving, the waitress asked how everything was, I told her it was extremely disappointing, she once again rolled her eyes, tutted and turned her back on us. I was left speechless. I did complain to the manager who said he'd have a word with the waitress, but no apology was made. It really doesn't take much to ensure that all staff are providing a quality service and by not doing this the customers are really suffering. Its a great shame.

Delicious food in a relaxed and informal setting. There are few places that would entice me for Sunday lunch, it always feels mass produced and lack-lustre. However the Shed excels in providing a warm and friendly reception and food that could have easily have been cooked by your own grand-mother - home-cooked and hearty. What a wonderful concept with all the shops providing unique gifts, instead of the run of the mill items in most farm shops. The Shed oozes character and is top quality without being pretentious. Make a special effort to visit - it will definitely put a smile on your face this Christmas.

We went to The Shed for Sunday lunch. We were a bit hesitant to try it based on reviews that talked of poor service. Nevertheless, the experience was really a good one. The full-on Sunday roast lunch (roast potatoes, honey-roast parsnips, Yorkshire pudding, swede puree, braised red cabbage, steamed carrots, creamy leek gratin, confit savoy cabbage) was absolutely marvelous, especially the Yorkshire pudding. The service was friendly and unrushed in a nice way. There was a choice of six puddings. We had the bramley apple and blackberry crumble. When we came to pay (at the desk) things seemed to be a little chaotic and slow (maybe this is what other reviewers were talking about), but not irritatingly so. After reading the reviews before hand I was worried about the service as it didnt seem to get flying reviews! We were greeted at the door by a lovely young waitress who was very smiley, and told us that she would bring menus over to us. After sitting down the menus came straight over and we were asked if we would like drinks, and then as soon as are drinks arrived the girl took are order! She was very friendly and professional she'd obviously done this before. The wait for food was a long time which was a little bit of a shame although we were checked on to make sure we were okay, by the same waitress. When the food arrived it was lovely and went down perfectly! Are plates were cleared in one go which was impressive as there was 5 of us! However I must say From experience of working in the hospitality industry are waitress seemed to be the only one working, there must have been about 5 other staff on who occasionally showed their faces and when they did so none of them where smiling! I'm assuming I knew who the manager was as he appeared when a problem arose with another table, although he showed traits of professionalism, I didn't see him smile once which is a shame to see from a manager! I will be rushing back but hoping to have the same friendly waitress!

I found the staff to be polite and friendly and found plenty to chose from on the menu and a good selection of cakes. On my last visit I had pumpkin soup which I enjoyed but felt it was let down by the boring slice of white bread - chunky wholemeal or sourdough would have been my preference. This is. I ordered about 10 mins later.40 minutes later my mail meal of liver and bacon arrived. Looked good, but the liver was barely cooked and lukewarm, so I asked for it to be sent back and cooked. 10 minutes further, it came back. I felt the Waitresses were patronising and surprised that some one had dared to send food back and complain. although they were polite enough. Its a shame as I can't be doing with waiting 45 minutes for food and the liver was raw in the middle. p.s. I thought I would give the Shed a second chance as it has been several months since I had visited last and the reviews were getting better. It started good with plenty of tables to choose from. I joined the queue to order my food and waited patiently to be served. There was a couple of people in front of me just waiting to pay but there seemed to be a problem with a bill so this took a bit of a while. I noticed that the cakes looked just as good as usual not many of them left which is a good sign. Suddenly behind me in the queue a waitress started taking the order for the people behind who had obviously got fed up waiting. I turned around and said shouldn't she be taking my order first as I was before them in the queue. She finished taking their order apologised to me and then took mine. We still had to wait a good 30 mins to get cake and coffee. This place does excellent food, lovely atmosphere but it is always let down by their customer service which never seems to improve and which is the most commented on by reviewers. When is somebody going to read these reviews and do something about it.

We were a party of 20 which I don't think they do often here so top marks for having a go.The staff were all really friendly and helpful although there was some disappointment that we were not offered sauces to accompany the lunch. The layout of the room was lovely that they put out the table decorations supplied nicely. The trad Sunday lunch. Really nice, massive portion, I felt the price was fair. Service was slow, but I would say that we as a group did not order at a given time and the staff were being as flexible as possible. Very difficult for them to manage along side the usual Sunday service.I would go again, and would even consider for a largish group, but I do agree with other reviews that more robust training is needed. The staff are willing but at the moment lack the skills.

The quality of the food remains very high and always look forward to eating here. We do prefer eating here to other 'local' restaurants. However, the last couple of times we have visited on a Sunday, both special occasions this has been spoilt by the poor service. The staff are always very polite but lack the guidance and leadership to ensure that the customers needs are fully met in a timely fashion. Too often there was considerable delay in clearing away, and then only after requesting it and the pudding was delivered without cutlery which we and other diners had to ask for more than once. You've got a lovely restaurant here Helen which I'm sure will flourish, but only if you sort your service out......please.

I took my mother and gran to the shed today for their first visit, WOW what more can these guys possibly add to the shed ? its really geared up for families with a great play area outside, a shop for children to do arts and crafts and lots of lovely individual shops not found in Bath. The restaurant was very busy but still felt comfortable, there is definitely a chilled buzzy feel here, the music they play gives the place a great ambiance. Gran and Mum had the Quiche with sweet potato fries which was delicious and I had the heirloom tomato salad with truffle curd cheese, it was yum. Finding it hard to choose a desert as there was so much to choose from we decided to have the rumbaba's, again these were scrummy. Service, food, coffees and shopping turned out to be perfect, shared by three ladies of three generations - thanks to all at the shed we will be back again soon.

What a great find. The in laws booked us in and we had a great brunch last Sunday. I didn't even know this place existed as it's tucked a bit off the main road. Very chilled when you arrive with loads of parking and a perfect kids play area with tables for parents to have a post meal coffee whilst the children burn some energy. Inside, the entrance opens into a deli selling what you expect including an extensive range of local ciders. In addition there are a range of boutique and art/craft style shops. Then the restaurant. All very nice. Friendly and efficient staff with a great brunch menu and the food was delicious. Not afraid to take custom orders either. Highly recommend this place. We will be back. Kids and parents very happy.

We had brunch at The Shed this week and am delighted to discover it - relaxing, friendly relaxed serviced and really good well prepared food, made from first class ingredients.. I don't think the The Shed is trying to be a formal restaurant, and I think some of the reviewers are completely missing the point of this place. This is definitely somewhere to come if you want to eat really well but in an upmarket cafe style setting .... if silver service is you thing, go somewhere else.

Went for dinner here, service was good if not a bit frosty.Wine list wasnt that great and they didn't have enough other drinks chilled. The food was good however, really interesting combinations which were delicious. Was pricey but i liked the fact the produce was locally grown and sourced. It looks like it's having teething problems but has the potential to be amazing, i think i'll leave it a few months and try again to see if things have improved in early Autumn.

I SO want to like this place but the slipshod service lets it down badly. It is clear from other reviews that there is an ongoing problem with the consistency and quality of the service. Our first visit was when it was quiet with only a few other customers. However we still had to wait 10 mins before the waitress came over with the menu. The second visit was Sunday lunchtime today and obviously much busier. We only wanted coffee and cake and the waitress initially told us there were no free tables but on checking with the manager we were told it was fine and were directed toward a free table. Unfortunately that proved to be our first and last exchange with any of the staff until we walked out over 15 mins later. As we walked past the main counter on our way out, not one of the 3 or 4 staff behind the counter bothered to say anything. I cannot imagine that any individual member of the waiting staff sets out to provide poor or inconsistent service so I am left to wonder whether it is down to inadequate staff training and/or poor staff supervision. Perhaps the owner might want to comment ? Either way there is a distinct lack of professionalism to the service that needs to be addressed. For what its worth we ended up driving to Neston Farm a few miles away. Similar set-up, equally busy, but prompt and efficient service. If they can get it right there's no reason why The Shed cant.

We booked in advance for a special meal for my brother and his wife having heard good reviews about The Shed.We had mixed opinions of the food, the burgers we really enjoyed but the risotto was really bland. They also didn't have all items on the small menu available. Service was really slow and considering there were few people here it took far too long to clear tables and bring desserts.3 people ordered tea, 1 was given a pot and 2 were given a small pot with 1 tea bag to share. This was ordered with our desserts but didn't come until a while after everyone was served and we had to ask 2 times about where our tea was. We then asked why we only had 1 pot and were told it was all they had clean. Then we realized we had no spoons to stir in our milk and sugar and had to ask twice before getting this. We had already given up by this point and used a knife to stir our tea!We raised a complaint about this and a member if staff came to apologise about the slow service, unfortunately in her attempt to empathize we us she started by saying she understands that we are p***ed off. This was really inappropriate use of language as my son was as the table. We then spoke to the manager who was very nice and reimbursed us for the inconvenience. It was a shame because the ambience is great, the presentation of the food was excellence and the idea of the shops and restaurant together is fab.

Definitely one of the most surprisingly delicious lunches I have had and in such an unusual setting. I went with friends for lunch at this new and very different craft and produce centre. I ordered the spaghetti with crab sauce and it was wonderful, fresh and very different. We all enjoyed our lunch and selected various dishes followed by coffees. It was easy to park and not too crowded. Well worth a visit with amazing selection of mini shops and friendly staff, children welcome too.

I ate here at lunchtime with my young son, parents and uncle. We had called in advance to book but it wasn't too busy. I had asked for a table by the play corner and for 5 chairs, and the table wasn't quite next to the toys and only had 4 seats, but that was easily rectified and no problem. The service was slightly on the slow side but we weren't in any rush and it suited us just fine. The two waiting staff were both polite and friendly. I ordered the crab spaghetti but they were out of this. I ordered the steak instead but they were out of that too, which wasn't great as it was only 12.30 and notoverly busy! Third time lucky - they did have fish and chips and it was delicious. The chips were divine! My son loved his bangers and mash and my Uncle said the quiche was great. My mum had the soup (roasted tomato), which she said was OK but not full of flavour. I thought the food was well priced and good on the whole. It is just a shame that some of the items on the menu were unavailable, but we will definitely return and will hopefully be luckier next time. I also noticed a new wooden adventure playground outside which I hadn't seen before, which looked great.

visited THE SHED Thursday 16th for lunch with a group of friends, food was exceptional as was the service, drinks arrived promptly, a great selection of wines, we all chose the delicious Shiraz Rose, which was recommended by the lady serving. It was a lovely hot sunny day, the restaurant was very busy we felt like we were on the continent, sitting under vines on the outside terrace. The service was perfectly timed, we were offered puddings and coffee to follow, all of which we had. I can highly recommend the trifle, we all chose this, however I wish we had chosen more of a selection as all of the puddings sounded and looked yummy. I don't think there is anywhere in Bath like this place, we loved it and shall definitely be returning as soon as possible, I hear they are opening for evening dining soon, lets hope its very soon . Well done THE SHED seems like you have it just right, your simply THE BEST.

Four of us came for lunch after one of my friends having been for Sunday lunch spoke very highly of it.We arrived at 12.30 and did not order until 1pm. I went and asked for a soft drink. Our order was taken by a woman and already they had sold of quiche on the. Menu. The cafe was fairly busy by this time and there were 2 staff working. Two of us ordered fish and chips,I ordered a fish finger sandwich and my friend ordered tapas. The food arrived about an hour later. My friend who had ordered tapas got sardines on toast !!After waiting an other hour for a dessert menu we decided to go up to the counter to choose our desserts. The same woman took our order for coffee and our dessert choices. She came back to say they had old out of gooseberry trifle so we chose again. By 4 o'clock we had not had our dessert and the same woman was cleaning tables around us,so I was so annoyed I went and asked the man behind the till for our bill and said we couldn't wait any longer. No apology or mention of our dessert. How rude !!The main meal was delicious . What a shame. We won't be going again. My clothes also stank of bonfire and smoke as somewhere close by someone was burning rubbish and because it was such a lovely day all the doors were open.I feel sorry for all the craft shop people who rent the shops above the cafe. We wandered around these and they were excellent. If the customers at the cafe disappear so will their trade and they will have to close.

The food is excellent and the staff were very friendly. My sister and I took our parents and Aunt to the Shed for lunch, it was Dad's 89th birthday and he has dementia and mobility problems, The Shed was sadly lacking in disabled facilities as the walkway was steep and gravelly and the steps were unusually high. The loos are quite a distance from the café area and it was a struggle to get Dad there. I would suggest lower steps or a portable 'step up' and possibly handrails, also a wheel chair would be an advantage. I would return but sadly not with my Dad - he wouldn't cope with it.

An excellent idea to allow those not living in Bath city to have good food without the incresing hassle of Bath parking. Our food was excellent . I think they had a bad day with staff as we sat in our seats for 30 mins reading the paper in hope they would offer us coffee. When paying at the till they said just the price without giving a bill. I am sure the latter will be ironed out and we will go again and try their breakfast. The prices are Bath city ones, so whilst having the advantage of parking , they will need to match the service within Bath.

The Shed is almost on my doorstep but that doesn't stop me calling in for coffee, afternoon tea or lunch whenever I'm passing. Have taken friends, family and non- local visitors to it for the full range of meals and never been disappointed. The food is of very good quality and the staff helpful without being obtrusive. The restaurant space and height allows one to take small children without their activity or noise disrupting other people. As a grandmother myself I am very aware that we elderly can be easily irritated by the presence of small children in restaurants. The Shed is one of the few places I feel totally comfortable about taking my family to, including 4 under-5s, without spoiling the peace and enjoyment of other diners. The addition of several varied retail outlets in the rest of the building creates additional interest and value to the visit without turning the site into yet another bland garden centre or shopping mall.Well done to The Shed management - long may you stay and prosper.

I have accommodation quite close to The Shed and am now sending my visitors there more and more - better than some of the Pubs I think and the produce there is always fresh and nothing coming out of plastic packets. Great for all day breakfast and Sunday lunch and now there is a lovely Swiss Ice cream parlour next to it. On top of that there are now some lovely boutique shops, a farm shop and a beauty parlour all under one roof. Yes the outside area needs some attention but with all businesses you have to start somewhere and they are obviously still improving things.Ignore the negative comments and try for your self- its a winner.

I've only ever had wonderful food and spoken to friendly staff, including a man I presume is the owner who took time to talk to me about the food and was interesting and pleasant. I never normally bother with reviews unless I have something positive to say, after all, everyone has an off day from time to time ...even the Ritz in London ,where I once had food poisoning.!!I am probably one of the biggest fans of the Shed as I am local and know it's previous history.I am getting really irritated by boring cheapskates who in truth ,only bother to write petty comments as they usually want freebies or discounts AFTER their plates are clean.Or Bah Humbugs who delight in picking holes in potentially huge and dynamic venues, as it allows them to avoid looking to deeply within at their own miserable failings Come on guys! truthfully is there anywhere better locally without having to go and fight the traffic in Bath.? If you are local or live within a 50 mile radius lets support the establishments that are working hard and investing their money and time to improve our area for us.

As a local to the area, i wanted to be able to give a good review as i enjoy supporting local restaurants - especially independent ones. However my overall impressions of the delicious food were completely ruined by the female manager; she is rude. Rudeness ruined it for me. It is a great shame that the wonderful expertise of the chefs is being overlooked because of the AWFUL service. Customers, like myself, who are willing to spend a lot of money should not be treated with such disinterest and disregard. Do not feel anyone should support such poor service, especially when the manager appears to treat her staff so awfully.

I have been 3 times in the past 2 months The first time I could not fault it. The 2nd time the service was slow but I thought well every place has an off day so I decided to go back today Sunday 11th May. I will start from the very beginning I phoned to book a table the response I got was should be alright strange I thought. I turned up on time with my family after sitting for around 20 minutes with out anyone even giving us a menu I had to get up and ask or one. When the menus arrived I ordered a bottle of wine and a bottle of water after a normal wait and no drinks i had to get up yet again and ask for our drinks i then sat bsck down and to my surprise our food arrived before our drinks not good.We don't have any cutlery to tuck in straight away so have to wait for that aswell another error. When our drinks eventually turned up yes they forgot the bottle of water another error and smashed my wine glass which I again had to wait far to long to be replaced by this time I'm dying of thirst. The food was nice. We then asked for desert menus and in any eatery worth it's salt you would expect the member of the waiting staff who gave you the menus to return to take your order Not here yet again I have to ask to be served. I then ordered 3 coffees for some reason 2 came out and yes I had to wait again only then to have a tray of cakes and coffees come over not mine but I had the coffee and commented on how nice the cake looked I will order one Guess what it never materialised.Basic service is not difficult but here the service has gone from fine to terrible and I'm sorry there is just no excuse for the standard to drop to a none existent level. This is a shame because this place had the makings of a great place and the food is nice but you need some sort of degree of service to make it even if the food was out of this world. Also for the record this is my first restaurant review but I felt so disappointed I had to write one.

A friendly venue with really tasty food, which was well presented and great value for money. This place is not in any way exploitative. Rather its intent seems to be offer a relaxed experience in a cafe type atmosphere with food you would be happy to find in a Knightsbridge restaurant, without the pomp and posturing. It was one of the best experiences I've had since being offered "frites et vin" as a thin and poor hippie traveler in the South of France. We visited as a family of 4 for Mothers Day lunch. The room was very full and the atmosphere was busy but not hectic. They were serving a two course Sunday roast at a very reasonable cost per head. The food arrived hot and well presented and was as good a Roast as you would make at home and better than most we have ever eaten out. We had a very nice bottle of Merlot which was not sold at an excessive mark up. The Puddings were delicious and nicely presented. Particularly for a Mothering Sunday menu. We booked at The Shed because we had previously enjoyed the food, particularly good coffee and most excellent home baked cakes. If they keep up this standard it will become hard to get a table!

The Shed has been an enormously welcome addition to our lives. We must have been a dozen times or more now with family and friends. Each time the food and service have been exceptional. You can tell that the chefs have a great deal of skill and imagination, but they also offer up the consistency which can sometimes be lacking in rural eateries. There is also flexibility when you want to stray from the menu (adding a sausage here and there!) The creamy mushrooms are insanely good. Hard to understand any criticism of service or staff at all. It's fabulous and very friendly. They seem to have limitless energy. My advice would be to totally ignore the odd loon on Trip Advisor who likes to turn up during Sunday lunch wanting a table for a cup of coffee. The selection of cakes and tempting treats is limitless and it is quite easy to over-indulge. The coffee and tea are also fabulous; Good news, as I think they are launching a stand alone coffee shop at the other end of the building. You can tell the owners have big plans for the whole building and I am very excited to see where they go with their ideas. 5 stars all the way.

Yesterday (Monday) I visited The Shed for the first time. The interior is very 'country modern' cosy but stylish - the kind of place you can hang out with friends or come as a family. I ordered a light lunch of a salad with poached eggs - the leaves were beautifully dressed and the poached eggs perfectly cooked. I felt they were really flexible with my order and really happy to accommodate my request to have the salad made the way I like it. Chatting to another guest I found out The Shed is going to host community events and that Helen the owner is very supportive of local charities. Can't wait till the beauty shop opens - going to be the place to meet up with friends and have treatments together. The flower shop had gorgeous bouquets and I ordered some 'Jam jar' bouquets to pick up the next day. Will definitely be back!

Have visited three times in the last month now. The first time was OK although service was slow. The second and third times were worse, the staff, apart from one young boy, have no manner and have not been trained very well. On the second visit the woman (owner I assume) running it spent a lot of time chatting to her friends at the till while I waited to be acknowledged. Eventually she told me to take a seat and someone would be over. A waitress eventually came , we had lunch which was very nice but we waited an age for service. The latest visit for coffee was very poor, there were not many people there and we were told to again to take a seat and they would serve us, after a very long time a waitress came and took a very simple order for coffee and cake. An age later the coffee arrived, no cake. We waited and eventually the cake arrived. All the while there were cleaning fluids and clothes left on table tops and by the counter. The woman who I assume was the owner was sitting having coffee with a client or friend at a nearby table. Overall the impression I've been left with is that the customer is an irritation that has to be tolerated but they would rather be left to run an establishment for friends only. Its a pity as the food is lovely but I won't be back again, having given it a fair chance by visiting three times. If they can improve the customer experience by making them feel welcome and valued they may have a chance, at the moment thought there are far superior places to have coffee and lunch in Bath so my recommendation is to give this place a miss.

I have a pet peeve against staff being dressed down in front of the public by management, but unfortunately that is what happened while we were at The Garrick. It doesn’t matter how good the food and drink is if you’re going to sit in complete discomfort after a grumpy manager has a very loud go at a young waitress just because she made a mistake. We don’t care about mistakes as we like being served by humans; we don’t like when bullies cause the same young girl to almost cry while being shouted at mere feet away from us while we try to enjoy our food (though I don’t think this should happen behind the scenes either, of course.) From reading another review, I see this is not a one-off incident. Not worth the awful atmosphere.
