A very hit and miss experience. 8 of us went in for a drink. The first round was ok but the beers in the second round were flat. We decided to eat. Ordered fish finger sandwiches. This came as a ciabatta roll with one tiny fishfinger for £12. Also ordered prawns on sour dough bread. 4 tiny prawns were delivered on 2 mother’s pride crusts! When this was pointed out we were offered a refund for the prawns and a complimentary drink. We ordered the drinks and then were charged for the difference between the ‘complimentary’ drinks and the food bill. We won’t be going back.

Fabulous pub! The manager couldn't have been more helpful. All the staff were brilliant. We wanted to watch the West Ham game & had booked a table to be sure. We arrived early & were given a choice of places to sit. He checked on us throughout the evening, making sure it was warm enough (the basement was a bit chilly, but the heaters were great). The food was good - buffalo wings, cheeseburger & fish finger sarnie. The only disappointment was the footy score 😬

Rude and ill-mannered staff (referring to a mid aged chap, probably a manager or so). Politely went to point out the water dispenser was out of tap water to then be told - 'There's plenty of water in the tap'. Yeah, right, as if I didn't know. Maybe leave a sign at your dispenser, saying it's not to be used and offer a glass of water instead? The last thing customers want is unprovoked passive aggression, especially when they're paying £8.10 for a pint of Guinness. What a low life.

I booked a table to watch the Wales v Australia Rugby match. The website specifically stated what match you were booking a table for, but when we got there, the table reserved was directly below the TV, and I mean right underneath, so we would have needed to look directly up at the screen the whole match watching pixels. When I asked for another table a member of staff said he didn't see anything wrong with it. But it was obvious he was just being bloody-minded, unhelpful and awkward. Luckily there were tables downstairs, where we moved to. So if you book a table for a match make sure you ask for it to be not directly underneath the TV, you shouldn’t have to!

Reluctant to call this out but it has to be. We shared "the mushroom" pizza which was really good except the menu said it had mushrooms, artichokes and olives. Well there wasn't an olive to be seen and the guy didn't say we're out of olives so we'll knock 2.50 off the price whereas if you wanted an extra you were charged an extra 2.50. We wanted to enjoy the sunshine in the beer garden and ordered a beer, two wines and my 21 yoa grandson ordered pizza as a snack. The pizza was burnt black around the edges so we complained and the cook said that's how their oven cooks them? A young lady offered to take it back but my grandson said he would try to eat it so as not to cause any hassles - however, I asked for a knife to cut off the burnt edges. I took a pic of the black edges and also noticed that the table next to us had pizza which wasn't burnt. We should have sent it back as eating burnt food is unhealthy and unacceptable

Nice pub comprising several areas split over a number of levels, including a riverside beer garden. Good beer and wine, and although I've never tried the food the riverside barbecue on my last visit smelled amazing. A special mention goes to the amazingly bizarre taxidermy above the main bar. It's the front third of an otter that looks like it's been in a fight, run over a few times and then left to decompose for a while before being stuffed and mounted. Nestled just off Pulteney Bridge, The Boater beckons with its unassuming exterior. But step inside, and you’ll discover a world of warmth and character. Situated by the tranquil River Avon, this pub offers more than a pint. It gifts you spectacular river views—a canvas of water and sky. The ground floor bar serves up well-made traditional pub food and drinks. But ascend to the upper level, and you’ll find a more refined dining room. Here, the menu dances with flavors, and the view extends to the Bath rugby grounds. Seek out the basement nook area—a haven for lounging and sipping. Imagine sinking into plush seats, drink in hand, as the world drifts by. The Boater isn’t just a pub; it’s a chapter in your Bath story. Come, sip, and let the river weave its magic.

No, he walked off.! We moved tables and just decided to finish our drink and leave. We were absolutely appalled what happened next. Another couple sat at the table with their drinks. She asked the barman if he had a cloth and he asked her why. She then explained that the table was dirty. He went and got a cloth and handed it across the bar for her to clean it herself! His attitude was beyond belief. He may have been the manager as he was sat at the bar with a laptop.

Needed a pit stop whilst walking around Bath with our dogs. So The Boater was dog friendly so stopped here for a drink, was hoping for food as well. We sat out in the courtyard garden and were greeted by a very friendly gentleman who appeared to be cooking a BBQ. He very kindly provided water for our dogs and told us we could order via an app, my partner needed to use the facilities so went inside, I followed. At the bar there were 2 young ladies serving drinks, they did not look particularly happy to be there and when my partner made a joke they didn't seem impressed and completely ignored him which I thought was slightly rude, even if they didn't find it funny they could have at least smiled whilst serving us which neither of them did. We looked on the app when back in the garden to order food but it appeared just to be vegetarian options on the BBQ, such as potatoes or corn on the cob and nothing more so we drank up and moved on.

Nice pub, stopped for a quick pint and were greeted by a friendly member of staff. It was nice a quiet around mid day so nice and relaxing. The outside has a nice seating area near the river. Nice place

Incredibly overpriced for what it is. The drinks are unnecessarily expensive, and the food is distinctly average and, on this occasion, barely above room temperature. The staff are dismissive and, whilst not rude, seem to have little interest in customer service.

Desafortunadamente, han convertido lo que solía ser un espacio encantador en algo realmente hortera e insípido con manteles de plástico y una decoración en general realmente horrible. ¡También estaba CONGELANDO! De ninguna manera podrías sentarte sin un abrigo.

Popped in for breakfast as we were in the area visiting family. The morning staff and Manager were lovely and welcoming. The food was good, fresh and hot. Good value for money. Will definitely be visiting again.

Decent enough pub that is a lot bigger inside than it looks from the outside. Olde worlde type look to it. Clean and tidy. Beer served wasn’t great. It was ok though. Didnt stop me going in a few times and will definitely return.

Amazing service and food! Walked away with a Christmas cake which was lush. Staff were really friendly, food was hot and all came out together although it was 3 separate orders.

Seems to have lost some of its original magic. We enjoyed a few drinks and really good food previously. Ordered Chateaubriand to share, was tough. Staff seemed stressed over all disappointing from our previous couple of visits. Gave us the impression as gone from great atmosphere, vibrant and relaxed dining to more like a rowdy watering hole. The cocktails weren’t as good as we remembered either sadly.
