I got my order not delivered , I escalated this on the app and all I got what a slap in the face , saying my order was left at the front door. I didn’t get the chance to tell my side of it , I didn’t see any food . How wonderful your services are , thanks for showing how unsupportive you are , bye .

The best Indian restaurant in Brighton. Every meal, usually takeaway, is on point.

Food, service and ambience was good. A group of girls were so annoying and disturbing all other customers with their loud noises. Staff should have told them to lower the voice.

Best and most authentic South Indian restaurant in all of Brighton, London and Edinburgh. Though many other restaurants are more popular this is most authentic IMO and I have lived in India for 27 years

Vel is very popular. Rightly so as the curries are varied. Service is friendly. Atmosphere good. But because it’s popular is way over priced. The curries depending on when you go are very unstocked for the price. The mutton curries don’t have much mutton and same for chicken ones. We have been a few times and I think it depends on the chef cooking that day and how busy they are. Best food we have had is lunch time. When much less busy and better quality. Pick and choose your dishes carefully. The rice is expensive but very good value portions. The salad is a joke for value for money. The curries already mentioned. If you want really South Indian value for money. Walk the 7 minutes down the road to the Brighton Curry house. See how much your 13.99-15.98 for one dish in Vel gets you there!

Enjoyed Dosa from Vel very much. The service is superb too.

fish moilee was too spicy and oily which I already mentioned not to put too much spicy flavours in it .

Wonderful Vel. Delicious fresh food. Always. We had fish and a mushroom curry pilau rice. Hot and full of flavours. However the start of cold weather meant their usual hideous front door jams open when customers and delivery drivers come and go. Two males at separate tables spent an hour getting up to shut out the cold wind from the restaurant. Why have they never fixed it. Be careful about the table you choose from late September! Otherwise go.

The best Indian food I had in Brighton mainly the pepper chicken was really good. It tasted the same as proper Chennai food and also the Chennai king dosa was like a Tamil Nadu street style dosa. I recommend people who like south Indian food please visit the restaurant once.

The customer service is great and the restaurant atmosphere is very pleasant. The gravy of the curries was excellent, very well seasoned and tasty. But the mixed vegetable curry was so ridiculously overpriced! Small portion for £11.9, made of ready diced mix of either tinned or frozen vegetables, carrot cubes with corn and peas. Similarly, the chickpeas were clearly directly from the tin, and not cooked well from dry ones. They were not tender and soft enough. If the restaurant would use fresh ingredients and not tinned or frozen ones, and would not overprice their dishes so terribly much, it all would be excellent!

Excellent South Indian food which we could see being cooked at a moderate price too. The restaurant was full as it deserved to be

Very tasty and filling South Indian food. The staff is very friendly and attentive, offering more rice or checking if we were enjoying the food. They also have vegan options. Definitely will come back.

Absolutely AMAZINGLY AUTHENTIC! Gorgeous! Mutton Madras, paneer, garlic naan…. All spectacular … but STAR ⭐️ of the show is the spicy salad starter! Omg! Raw fresh veg, hearty spice! You are truly LIVING. Staff were beautiful people, place was full of Indian people. Really good value also…. Best Indian experience from west of Ireland, all over Dublin, London, Leeds, Brighton…. BEST! Heart is warm, belly satisfied, mind happy 😊

Really worth every penny. We were searching for veg food in Brighton and Vel came as suggested and we were not disappointed. Food is great and service even better. CSK dosa and chholey bhature were amazing. Will definitely visit again when in Brighton.

The best dosa I’ve ever had! I chose three vegan fillings: potato, onion and a spicy crumb-like one, and the textures came together really well.

Biriyani should always be served with vegetable curry. We ordered 6 biriyani and none came with vegetable curry.

It is really good for South Indian lovers and also who wishes to taste chole Bhature. But chole only available in dinner time that was quite unexpected. On the contrary, try Rasam with anything. You love it. A place is bit tidy but when we visited there, was vacant so easily get food. One of the staff members named by DEV was very helpful. We had lunch and dinner on the same day.

Went in as they were taking last orders and they were super nice and made us a delicious and spicy curry. Even got a high five from a baby!

I've been to vel a few times, and everytime I loved it. This is one of the best places I've been to for South Indian food, and most places don't this food are so expensive. The service is always attentive. The dosas are a must have. Unsurprisingly for a south Indian restraunt, there are amazing vegeterian /pure vegeterian selection, including some indo-chinese dishes. A must go

Delicious food and incredible service!! The egg Kottu and Tamarind Garlic curry were outstanding. Very helpful waiters and it's cool watching the chefs in the kitchen do their thing. Speedy and affordable, and all looks to be homemade, we'll be back!

My favourite Indian restaurant in Brighton, and one of the best place to eat in Kemptown. Staff is friendly and welcoming, and menu varied with plenty of choices. Prices are generally ok with a few exceptions (£9 for egg fried rice seem rather excessive).

It’s not the typical Indian Restaurant, where usually serve westernised Indian cuisine. It’s one of best South Indian restaurant with authentic South Indian cuisine. It’s a small restaurant near Kemp town in Brighton . You will have to book your place, as it can get really busy. We really enjoyed all the food.Everything reasonably priced. Nice staff.There is no parking , street parking around.

If you're looking for the best indian restaurant in Brighton then your search is over ! ... I ordered take out food from this place and its genuinely the only place I have found so far in Brighton that knows how to make Paneer Butter Masala properly.

Being a big time lover of south indian food, i loved my time and experience here. Loved my fav south indian filter coffee and rasam along with dosa. Did not like Veg briyani but will rate 5/5. Will visit again.

One of the good places which offers authentic Indian food. Definitely have to say this the taste here is really amazing. 🤩 well recommended for South Indian food and also the chole bhature is a must try. Prices are getting bit more on the expensive side, over the last few months.

The food was exceptional! Loved it! It's a beautiful restaurant with very friendly staff. Only downside to the evening was the door was always open, delivery drivers kept leaving it open and it was freezing.

Ridiculous place. Extremely expensive for a tatty canteen.

Very impressed. Great selection of food. Veg and meat. An Indian dessert called sooji that isn't available everywhere but was excellent, just like everything else. All in all you cannot go wrong.

Been there for dinner, Worst ever indian. Overpriced. Ridiculous that I’ve paid £100 for two people, I've never been so disappointed spending £50 per person just for a dinner. Highlight is that filter coffee, only served half of cup and charged £4.99. “VEL” need to look at your pricing, I mean seriously... Take better care of your customers and they may actually come back. Don't rip people off.

Lovely authentic food and very reasonably priced. Went for my son's first birthday earlier, he made a mess on the floor and the staff were very friendly and understanding. Thank you.

The food is obviously well prepared with fresh spices and cooked well, very tasty indeed. However, the food was cooked with way, way too much oil, swimming in it in fact. This spoilt it for us, which is why I’m giving 3 stars.

Been in Brighton for a while now, and so many people have been hyping Vel up for being the “best Indian restaurant” in Brighton! That’s a questionable label… First off the place was packed with tons of people, and this increased my expectations for the food. You can also see the chefs make the food in a traditional sense through the glass window, which was a show to watch! We ordered a variety of food! Just wanted to note that it’s a South Indian restaurant meaning that the options differ compared to the commercialized Indian restaurants. We waited for more than 30 minutes to be served the food as they had tons of orders to deal with. The daal tarka was tasteless and way too thick! It was drenched in turmeric and missed the actual tarka that was expected. The chicken 65 was quite average and was dry. I expected it to be more crispy and juicy. The dosa was basically the only thing I enjoyed along with the flavorful chutneys and potato masala! It was crispy but got cold really quickly. The filtered coffee was watered down and did not carry the essence of what filtered coffee should be.

We tried four different types of vegetarian dosas. Definitely recommend for dosas.

Absolutely brilliant restaurant. No where in Brighton makes a decent dosa apart from Vel. I am a dosa connoisseur. Great atmosphere and service. We have eaten here multiple times and every dish has been tasty.

Food taste and quality is good, don't expect exactly Indian taste. But ok atleast. Also service charges are included in bills even though they ask for tip. That's fine if service is good , but service is something they should focus on. For me service was very late.

This used to be an amazing place BEFORE, after staff changes the quality of food n staff present has dropped drastically There was hair on the table on which we sat, upon informing they took it away. Then I found hair in my chicken 65 informed the lady serving she just took it off and left, no apologies at all. We just ate our mains and decided to leave. Whilst paying for the bill she insisted on TIP? I was shocked she didn't care about what food was served to me, no apologies, I atleast paid for the chicken 65 with hair

Inedible food, great service, fruit flies. Alas, one of the worst Indian food experiences ever. I don't know what others see but the food was at times inedible. Onion bajis are not a slice of onion dipped in thick pancake batter to resemble a flip flop, they should be light and crisp and delicious leaving you wanting more. We asked for our curry to be mild and it was so hot we couldn't eat it, despite the waitress apologising and offering yoghurt. The rice was nice but the aloh Gobi was like a babies purea and leaving large amounts of curry leaf in the currys meant spitting out twigs with every mouthful. The waitress was excellent and service was far better than most places but fruit flies buzzing around our plates shows there is a hygiene problem too. £35 a head with a beer and inedible food makes this an overpriced and alas pretentious Indian, sorry but its a no.

Always liked the food. Slightly on the spicier side but you can let them know accordingly. My fav dish has to be kothu chicken. They do it really well.

Not as good as it used to be. I'm not sure if it's changed hands, but the last time I dined in the food wasn't as good as previous visits and the service was poor. The last takeaway was very poor. The Thosais were a real disappointment.

South Indian cuisine including street food favourites. The staff will happily explain the menu. The new yellow trays remind me school dinners, wish they had more traditional stainless steel ones. Otherwise good value.

Order was delivered later than stated. The temperature of the food was cold and the naans had a texture of rubber, the main dish was also cold, I chose this restaurant due to the positive reviews on the Just Eat app. The Just Eat app was saying that a courier was waiting to be allocated for quite along time. I was told by the manager that I need to let Just Eat sort this out & that they could not help me. I had no microwave available in the hotel. Not happy at all.

If you wanted to try the typical South Indian food in UK. This is a must go place if you are missing South Indian food. The 3.99£/4.99£ chicken/mutton gravy was the bestest🔥 Biryani's were amazing and they make separate prawn biryani which has its own unique taste. Great job keep it up guys!

Decent dosa (thosai) - sambal was spicy and delicious, dosa was nice and crisp with simple potato masala' Chennai super king dosa was very spicy so be warned but great with coconut chutney. Too many tables for the space so not comfortable to sit. Friendly servers. Unclean toilets. Overpriced for what it is but pretty decent food

I am writing this review from India and after 2 months visiting this restaurant. If you are south Indian trust me just close your eyes and walk into the restaurant its the best taste I have had in the UK I would say! The Sambar was literally tasted like home. If you are Kannadiga 'Maga' just hog tinnu its the best. Thank you guys for the hospitality.

I placed order online. And they didn't delivered the food. They said can't find any delivery driver..

The food is authentic and delicious, there is many options you can choose from. Today was my second visit and I would write that staff might be a bit helpful and explain more about the food. As as European I am not clear with differences between south Asians dishes. Also waiter could be more organised , I'm aware restaurant was full and he was there alone however he was very slow and his service is poor.
