Dreadful cod fish, over battered and dry, I think it was cooked twice. Too many small chips. Overpriced very disappointing after going there for years. Dreadful.

We had wanted to try this chippy when we were in Whitstable last year on Bank Holiday but the queues then were ridiculous. This year we had chance to go, again very busy but not too daunting. The quality of the fish, all of us had the cod and haddock wasn't available was lovely. Crispy batter, chips cooked in beef dripping, so tasty and delicious. Shame one of the fish ordered didn't materialise when we opened our bag of food, but we had not been charged for it, but did not realise at the time. Cod was £9 per fish, for clarity really as some of the information from past postings show £6. Great fish and chips when visiting the seaside!

Lovely fish and chips , only let down are the mushy peas. They had a very odd taste , were not like proper traditional dried and soaked marrowfat peas. Maybe they are bought in in tins? However the fish and chips were great and the staff well organised and friendly.

We rediscovered the original taste of fish and chips at VC Jones. The taste and texture of the chips reminded us of those when we were growing up, simply delicious. The flavour of the crispy chips and batter can only be achieved cooking in the traditional way.A great quick service, very reasonable prices and good size portions. This is now our favourite fish and chip shop in Kent and will return regularly.

Lovely fish (Haddock), terrible chips. It seems to be thing that fish and chip shops and takeaways just can't cook chips properly. Why? What the hell is going on? I've had chips from V.C. Jones on many occasions and they are ALWAYS pale, limp, undercooked and soggy! I have to pre-heat my own oven ready to cook them properly upon delivery (for about 20 minutes @ 200C). It doesn't matter if you cook them in beef dripping or not if they are undercooked. It is only because I love this restaurant so much that I point this out, because it represents Whitstable, and I really want it to do well.

Having lived in the North of England for 5 years & having experienced real fish & chips, upon returning to London it struck me that you cannot find real fish and chips in the capital. Other Londoners May get defensive to this fact, but Fish and Chips should not have the skin on and should not come adorned with any salad item. I’ve searched far and wide with no avail until a friend tipped me off about VC Jones. After a 90m drive out of London we arrived in Whitstable. Shortly followed by a long walk on the beach it was nearly lunch time so we ordered Fish & Chips with real mushy peas and curry sauce, washed down with a can of Dandelion & Burdock. I can honestly say they were delicious. Cooked in beef dripping like they should be and golden brown, with crispy batter and chips that crunch, all cooked to order and still hot 15m later. I love fish and chips and this is the closest real ones to London, so I shall definitely be back soon! Thank you VC Jones!

Eating the fish and chips from V C Jones was like a trip back to childhood where our local chippy always used beef dripping for cooking purposes. This process may not be to everyone's taste, veggies will be disappointed no doubt, and our daughter was not quite so keen, but we oldies loved it. I only read today that Mark Hix and other tv chefs recommended this method as the best way to cook chips. We enjoyed from the Jones establishment a really excellent piece of haddock as well. I have been eating at VC Jones since I was a young boy in the 1970s, fond memories of that hot vinegar smell whilst strolling down by the shipwrights and through the harbour, to perch myself on a groin and eat my supper with a can of pop whilst watching the tide go out. and that still hold true today the town may have changed but VC Jones has stayed true, it is the absolute definition of Old School Fish and Chip shop, with great sized portions cooked in the traditional Dripping, this gives the chips and fish a unique flavour unrivalled by other shops, if any of you are reading this, and planning the Trip to Whitstable please make sure VC Jones is in the Top 5 things to do, if choosing not to eat in then walk down the beach and lose yourself in the Fish supper, Bay and Sunset, A Beautiful pairing.

We brought our Aussie rellies here to sample some traditional fish and chips in a traditional dedicated restaurant and they were nit disappointed, in fact they loved it. The fish is fresh, local and excellent and the mushy peas were the best. One tip, if you have the mushy peas perhaps have one portion between two as they come in separate dishes and there is too much for one person. The old dining room is original, I guess from the 1950/60s which gives it its own ambience and the team cooking an d serving were both personable and helpful. Ok it's a fish and chips shop and you typically have to wait but that because they don't keep a stock of pre cooked fish in the warming cabinet. Oh and they do only take cash. But probably the best F&C; I've had in quite a few years. After you have got your order, walk about 5 mins to the beach where there are benches and picnic tables having also got a few beers from the 'Offy' first - and enjoy the evening. Lovely.

We went to Whitstable on a Sunday during the Oyster Festival and it was packed, even the charity shops were open. For memory sake we headed up the High Street to Jones's for lunch. We passed more fish and chip shops than there used to be but when we got to Jones's in Harbour Street there was a queue out of the door and along the front of the shop next door. It was worth the wait, fish and sausages in batter were just as we remembered and the chips were pale but perfectly cooked. We took our lunch and eat on the sea front in the sunshine, a lovely day.

I popped in for fish and chips early on a Saturday evening during hot July. I usually go to Ossie's but thought I should try this as it's a town staple and often has a queue. Yes it was busy (although only a small queue outside) but clearly customers had been waiting for their orders for a long time.

The queue down the road would have you believe that you were going somewhere special.... however this was just bog standard average fish and chips.

Only had some chips after a football match but they were good! When I get the chance I'll go back for a full meal.

We popped in on a lovely sunny Sunday of bank holiday weekend. No surprise that the place was packed! We joined the queue and waited our turn. At least you know the food is freshly cooked. Not cheap but not ridiculously pricey. A bit annoying that it was cash only. They lost a few customers because of this. Very tasty fish & chips. We’d definitely go back next time we’re in Whitstable.

I used to go to this Fish and chip shop in Harbour street Whitstable when I was a boy, a long time ago and it has consistently served great traditional Fish and chips, others come and go but Vic Jones shop with its restaurant has outlasted most of the others by serving a quality product and with friendly staff too.

Walking the Saxon Shore over this years Saturdays with my son. Faversham to Chestfield and Swalecliffe. Needed a lunch stop so Googled for a traditional chippy - did not let me down. Though popular we decided on a seated option at the back of the shop. Easily got a table. Waitress was friendly and seeing how hot and bothered we were from walking instead of giving us a glass of water gave us a jug. Great Cod and Chips. Cod was one of the best I have had. Chips I felt were a little to crisp for my liking - I like the once fried texture so they are crispy but soft as well. Only a minor niggle as still very nice.

We get fish and chips probably once a week This used to be the best by far. Last few times less so. The last time was uneatable Think they maybe cutting the quality in favour of price

I had battered fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce. The components were distinctly average and no better or worse than your average chippy. The portion of fish was probably the smallest I have ever been served and, despite the up market location, a rip off at £25. On the plus side, the staff were very pleasant.
