A truly special dining experience. We were so lucky to be seated at the pass and had a wonderful evening watching Alex and the team prepare the delicious tasting menu. Each dish was incredible - we particularly loved the strawberry bao, and the soft drinks flight was equally as thought through as the food. Highly recommend, we can't wait to be back.

We very much enjoyed the casual vibe as soon as we entered. Everyone in the team was very friendly and service was suitably attentive and knowledgeable with each course and pairing drinks carefully described to us. Each dish was beautifully presented and I found all the flavours and textures to be well balanced. I would happily eat a bucket of the beans and tomatoes! We tried both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks pairings, and I felt the non-alcoholic pairing was more interesting and better complemented each dish. We very much appreciated that our dessert was delivered by Alex himself who was happy to stop for a quick chat. Thank you to Alex and the rest of the team for an excellent evening! Places go very quickly, so booking early is recommended. Try and get a seat at the pass.

The overall product here is first class, the food is amazing, the service first rate, and the experience really special! I would not hesitate to recommend Vanderlyle to anyone. As a side note, I’m a vegetarian (and although it is getting better) fine dining is something I have largely felt excluded from historically…..Vanderlyle hits and exceeded my high expectations, I will be going back! (The 3 meat eaters I shared the experience with did not feel they were missing out on anything)

Wow! 10/10!! I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! The food was exquisite! Every single mouthful was unbelievably delicious and inventive. The chefs used locally produced ingredients to create the most incredible vegetarian dishes. The attention to detail was wonderful. We were lucky enough to sit at the chef's pass so it was a front row seat to watching the chefs create their masterful art. The chef's would each bring us their created dish and explain the provenance of each ingredient and answer questions about how the dishes were created. They were so friendly! It was a truly wonderful experience. The decor was calm, light, open and luxurious, making you feel relaxed and comfortable. The staff were incredible! So friendly, professional and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble and it all felt very seamless and calm. We cannot wait to return to Vanderlyle and we are recommending it to everyone!

we were 3 people and had one of each drinks pairing - we went in early July. Fully lived up to my expectations - really creative fantastically tasting food . We had 1 of each of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks pairings. These were great and was enough for us (light drinkers). Overall I highly recommend. There was a big group sitting near us and it was a bit noisy - making it difficult to hear the explanations by staff for each course. I think it would be good to have some written notes to explain each course - there is a lot to explain for each tasting course and it was hard to take in all the details - would be nice to peruse some written notes while waiting for the next course.

The food was amazing and the service was excellent. Our favourite dishes were the carrot tartare and the dish with the white beans and morels. The savoury doughnut of course was a real treat too. Every dish had fantastic and unique flavours with very fresh ingredients, and beautiful presentations. We really enjoyed our evening and will love to come back.

This is a top notch restaurant that focuses on vegetarian and vegan dishes. Booking a table isnt easy.. it's popular.. I think you have to book on the first Tuesday of the month and pay in advance, but it's totally worth it. Expect to pay £60 per head before drinks and service.

I almost didn't bother leaving a review because everything I was going to write has already been said by everyone else who has reviewed the restaurant. If you are a vegetarian you have to visit because it is superb and if you are not a vegetarian you have to visit to see how amazing vegetarian food can be. Cannot rate it highly enough. The only downside is it is so good we struggle to get a table!

We've been lucky enough to have eaten here a number of times now, and it never fails to impress! Every time you go, the menu is slightly different, and all ingredients sourced locally. Yes it's a vegetarian restaurant, BUT you wouldn't think it. Alex and the team produce some brilliant dishes, and you end up not missing meat! The restaurant is just the right size for a good atmosphere, allowing the staff to give just the right amount of attentiveness. Whenever people ask us what restaurants are the best in the area, this one always comes up.

We had another stunningly excellent meal at Vanderlyle. Every course was excellent, and the level of gluten-free accommodation I received was outstanding. I almost cried when they brought out a gluten-free steamed marmalade pudding for me. Pictured, plant based caviar (from seaweed) had the starring role in this dish described as "co-farm oca, coco beans, saffron sauce". I will keep coming back to this restaurant.

We don't get there very often due to distance, but this is my favourite restaurant. The quality of the ingredients, the 'thinking out of the box' combinations and the attention to detail is sublime. The highlights of the January menu have to be the smoked carrot tartare paired with the lightest mixed seed cracker and the cashew parfait (the yeast topping could con you in to think you are eating the smoothest, most unctious duck parfait) and the flourish brassicas with paillason potatoes. I don't really 'do' radiccio or marmalde and my husband doesn't 'do' ginger but the care and love with which these ingredients are handled, put all out fears aside. There is always an ingredient we haven't come across - this time it was 'oca' (and yes, we had to google it too; a delicate root vegetable akin to potato) which is always exciting. I hope you'll realise by now, just how much I love this place. If you haven't tried it and can, please do!

Lovely. I have to give this five stars because the food was superb, the staff were fantastic and the drinks pairings inspired. Just one bad point , though - there was too much. I really wanted to eat and drink everything (didn’t quite succeed), but that left me too full. Just cut it down a bit, and this would be perfect. Food: wow. Ingredients, recipie, and cooking meant everything was a lovely texture, really different tastes, and simply a delight. Special mention to the apple granita with blackberries - which just shows that simple, yet perfectly executed, can win the day. We shared alcohol and soft drinks pairings. I can’t fault this. Explained really well - and, yes, the drinks complimented and enhanced the food. The staff were really friendly. Somehow, the normal restaurant “how was your food?” conveyed actual interest in our answer. I only wish I lived nearby. I’d go here again in a heartbeat.

It seems Vanderlyle tries really hard to put off people from eating there. - it's closed on weekends - booking experience is awful, you have to rush at a specific time and still unlikely to get a slot - asking for advance payment - cancellation fee of £5 regardless of notice - the booking system pretends you can easily cancel but it doesn't support cancellations, only booking and taking payments We didn't actually end up going and won't be trying again. The experience already feels far from fine.

Aug 2023 - Our second visit to Vanderlyle and, if anything, the food and service were even better this time. Too many highlights to mention them all, but the smoked roasted peach half way through the 7 course tasting menu was just inspired - an explosion of unexpected taste and texture sensations - fab! We eat in a lot of fine dinning restaurants on our travels and love the fact that Alex and the team dare to be different. Not just in the 'almost' vegan food, but in the endlessly creative menu and the purposefully relaxed atmosphere. It just feels as though it is a restaurant that is totally comfortable within its own skin. Having said that, I have marked the atmosphere down a star because it was too noisy at the start of the meal for us to be able to talk without straining. Thankfully the noise levels reduced as the meal went on and we were able to enjoy the experience to the full. Thank you Alex, Alice and everyone else involved. Dec 2019 - We were nervous taking our 6 year old to Vanderlyle for the Christmas special. It was her first experience of a tasting menu. 3 1/2 hours, at least 8 courses and not a piece of meat or fish in sight! ... We needn't have worried, the relaxed friendly atmosphere coupled with the exquisite morsels of food and divine pairing of soft drinks was a total hit, pretty much from start to finish. Oh, and we loved it too. Our new favourite restaurant and it's just down the road, fab!

If you've not eaten at the Vanderlyle in Cambridge then you need to add it to you bucket list, whether or not you or anyone in you party is vegatarian; it is an experience that you will not forget and the reason we keep going back every couple of months. It is causual 'fine dining' at its best with in-season vegetables at the heart of each course, expertly prepared and elegantly presented in often unique ways, e.g. my favourite this time was a Basil Risotto with a Strawberry Ragu (cooked for some 16 hours). The produce is often sourced locally, e.g. the courgette flowers were super fresh and sourced within two miles of the restaurant on a not-for-profit farm. For £75 each and with about 8 to 10 courses it reprsents excellent value for money too. We often go for the soft-pairings, which complement the meal extremely well with such diverse concoctions as Cola herb soda and black tea and berries.

I’ve been enjoying vanderlyle since it’s beginnings. Amazing before covid and brilliant after. Delicious takeaway meals during the ‘dark time’. They are moving from strength to strength and the team are wonderful. Every meal had there is a joy and I only wish I could eat there more often. Veggie menu but without being boring or missing the meat. I am a dedicated carnivore but have loved every meal here and left well fed! Special mention goes to the soft drinks pairing. Gloriously creative and delicious, the drink options never make choosing no alcohol boring.

Came for the November tasting menu. The food was incredible and the staff were lovely. I had the non alcoholic pairing and didn't feel like I was missing out at all, the drinks were delicious and very similar tasting to the alcoholic pairings. One of our guests rarely eats plant based meals and even they were wowed by the food. You will also not come away feeling hungry! I will definitely be back and can't recommend enough! I've eaten Alex Rushmer's food several times throughout the last decade. Originally at the Hole in the Wall and then via a variety of pop-ups that he's done. I also ate at Vanderlyle when it first opened, and it was good. However, after visiting recently, I have to say that the food has reached a new, even higher height. It feels like there's a real confidence in Vanderlyle. They know what they want to do and are executing on it with a real passion. Without wanting to go hyperbolic, it was everything. Comforting, refined, beautiful, delicious, and surprising. You can tell that the chef has a love for what he does, because it's there on the plate, the way it looks, the way it tastes, the way it makes you feel. So for that, thanks. Thanks for a great dinner, a great experience, a great night. I can't wait to come again.

I visited Vanderlyle for dinner with a 9 year old. We waited for about 3 weeks for our reservation as it is very popular. I really liked the idea of a creative and friendly vegetarian cuisine with the focus on local vegetables and I am hoping to be back again to experience its other seasonal menus. We both really enjoyed the experience overall, the food was very good as well as the overall design (open kitchen, nice pottery). Petit fours were amazing as well as the cavolo nero confit and the cashew parfait. What would make the experience a perfect 5 star in my mind would be just a little more flexibility on the size of the meal. We are good eaters, but when we got to stage 6 of the menu, we simply couldn't finish the relatively large mushroom pie and we've seen similar status in the neighboring tables progress. For the drinks pairings, it's also either all or none. Having smaller menu sets with the possibility to order more if needed without changing the overall dishes prepared would make it feel less wasteful and more affordable too for the times when the novelty that allows for the high prices fades.

Oh how was I looking forward to it! First the positives: Vanderlyle is a remarkable restaurant, and the food is fresh, locally sourced and often delicious ! The chefs clearly make a good show of their talent and creativity. Staff are relaxed and friendly and there is a lovely atmosphere (and a great playlist). However, maybe a bit for bad luck, I was presented with a menu with a massive monotonic chord: sweet. I do not enjoy sweet very much, and I did not expect to have to endure 8 courses of variations of the theme. After the rarebit crumpet with strawberry ragu (fairly at the start of the journey), my threshold had already been lapped. One incomprehensible course, in the middle of the meal, was a generous serving of cashew parfait (a bloc of buttery pâté), with prune and cherry, surprisingly the one course without paired drink (it needed one to go through it). This heavy load unambiguously came in the way of enjoying (nor getting close to finishing) the following 2 autumnal dishes and 3 desserts. At some point both my partner and I felt dazed and overly full. The thought in our mind was unfortunately: “make it stop!” :/ I was probably only unlucky with the October menu which did not really match my taste, however with the price paid we expected to have a good experience no matter what… hence the 3-star. A big shoutout for the smoked carrot tartare which was absolutely delicious and the red wine that went with the mushroom suet pudding. We will probably come again (after saving a few more months) and hope to get our minds changed.

Very enjoyable dinner at Vanderlyle. Well worth the effort required to get a reservation. Every course was unique and tasty. Salsify was the standout as well as the delicious tomatoes that were allowed to carry themselves. The menu as a whole left me satisfied with each dish and craving the next. Service was welcoming happy to accommodate any requests or leave to enjoy the meal. Highly recommended.

Wonderful introduction to the Cambridge culinary scene at Vanderlyle for their May menu. The care, love and attention that goes into creating the best seasonal plant-led dishes makes Vanderlyle a real gem. With sustainability and local produce at its core, the quality of the ingredients and meticulous research that goes into the creative process, delivers an astonishing balance for the palate, and beautifully orchestrated symphony for the senses. We tried both the soft and alcoholic pairing and were impressed by the successful attempt to recreate a matching experience for anyone, drinkers and non. Hard to choose a favourite dish as the menu was an enthralling experience overall but, being someone regularly disappointed by petit fours, we got to applaude Vanderlyle’s utterly glorious dark chocolate truffles with porcini mushrooms and truffle based macaroons 🤤 We also valued the use of a locally sourced ivy honey in both drinks and dishes. Party of four to celebrate a birthday - food was exceptional. As a meat eater, found myself not even pining for any meat in the dishes - all dishes had a savoury moreish quality. Drink pairing was well executed and evidently thought through to great detail. To top it off, a lovely birthday card signed by all staff members on the table was a lovely touch and thoughtful gesture. Highly recommended.

Good food overall but a bit carb heavy and if you can’t eat carbs - i.e. for health reasons - you are a bit stuck- a bit disappointed that a vegetarian restaurant can’t offer a few cut up carrots or peppers or any veggies really (£1-5 value?!) as a dip alternative to bread …portions are a bit small too !! Hmmm…not looking to get back there any time soon- no wow for me there - plain good, but just good - nowhere near restaurant 22 for example - that’s a wow!

We came to The Swoop for a cocktail masterclass. Fiona was amazing, a real laugh and her cocktails were so good. You could tell she had a real passion for what she did and we learnt so much as well as had a good time. Miles was also superb and did some more cocktails for us after. The fact everything was locally sourced was even better. I ended up buying everything to make one of Fiona's signature creations. We'll definitely be back and I highly recommend a class at The Swoop, or if you want some local alcohol as a gift or for yourself, you must check the shop out
