Fancett's is recommended by Michelin, surely a star cannot be far in the future. Took my partner for a birthday treat and I think we may be returning soon and often. The decor is comfortable and welcoming, not overly lavish, but feels somehow timeless and retro all at once. When we arrived , every table was occupied, and still our table felt intimate.The service is excellent: friendly, fun, and flawless. The staff are absolutely amazing.And the food is delicious. More than that; exquisite. With a wonderful wine list to go with it. I cannot recommend this lovely restaurant enough!

A wonderful meal. Really hard to fault either the service or the food - so I won't. Portion sizes are nicely judged - and the menu has something for everyone. Other reviews have rightly praised it enough but I would point out one very nice touch. When the waitress noticed us attempting to polish the glaze from our plates in an effort not to waste a single trace of the sauces she swiftly appeared with a bowl of bread to facilitate the operation. We will return.

Great meal, superb service. Everything was delicious but desserts were the standout dishes for us.

Very disappointing experience during our visit to Fancett. Despite confirming our reservation a week prior via telephone, we were informed our table was cancelled last night due to an issue on their side. Poor service and attitude from the front of house and no attempt to rectify their mistake and initially attempted to turn us away. Having been in many articles and reviews online, I would expect a much better service from the staff. We travelled to Cambridge from London for a Birthday meal, very disappointed with the experience and we will not be returning again. Unfortunately, two glasses of complementary champagne did not compensate for this negative experience and this ruined the overall atmosphere of the meal. However, the food was good and compliments to the chef.

Been here so many times, i just love it. The food is totally on point, full of flavour and fresh, each dish is skillfully crafted. Dan, chef/owner will often come out to see the dinners which is testament to his confidence in his food. The service is always friendly and attentive without interrupting dinner in what is a small intimate setting. It is also excellent value given the fresh quality nature of the food. You wont regret dining here, if you can get a booking!

I went for lunch. Very tasty food and reasonable pricing. The only fussy complaint may be that it is too hard to grab a seat if you walk in. Always need booking in advance....

Luckily followed recommendations and booked lunch here as from the outside didn't look anything special. However once inside we had a most enjoyable and tasty experience in a delightful restaurant with charming service Hope we get the chance to return!!

202405 simply delightful The lunch menu is less complicated than the dinner one, and yet still beautifully executed. Perfectly satisfying and not too heavy. The beef carpaccio is gorgeous. Tender and melts in mouth. The anchovy mayo isn’t too greasy, brining more umami and a little citrusy flavor. Adding on to that is the nutty Parmesan. So harmonious. Confit guinea fowl leg is also nicely cooked. Tender dark meat with a slightly crispy skin. Not too oily and lightly seasoned. I’m glad that the salad of French beans doesn’t come raw. The Morteau sausage tastes good too. My friend’s hake and cheese soufflé also looks nice. (Some how we ordered red/white only plates :3) Lunchtime dessert doesn’t look so tempting so we’ll see next time at dinner. The space is small, but very cozy and not crowded at all. The staff are friendly. The kitchen team is organized and food came promptly. It isn’t always easy to find a table and I was lucky to get one before the price increases. Looking forward to coming back for lunch or dinner.

This place is exceptional. I live in Cambridge and in my opinion you can't find a finer place to dine at this price!

Incredible meal, I've been here twice for lunch now and I cannot recommend this place enough. I can't stop talking about it. The staff are friendly and attentive and the food is delicious. Seasonal, local delights and a small menu meaning they can really produce quality food, don't change!

Food was absolutely delicious, some of the best we have ever eaten. Finally a restaurant in Cambridge that competes with the London restaurant scene. Will definitely go again!

Lunch for 4 on Friday, portions a bit small and only two starters and mains to choose from, having said that the Trout Pate, Guinea Fowl and desert were to die for, have never eaten anywhere that gets close to this, not a food critic and have eaten in places that have been recommended by many but this place was on a different level.

Great lunch but vegetarian main was salmon dish without the salmon.

An excellent lunch with friends. Each course was delicious. High quality food - well cooked and presented, and lovely flavours. At £29 for three courses, really good value for such good food. Between the four of us we tasted all but one of the seven dishes on the menu (two starters, two mains and two of the three desserts) and none disappointed. Relaxed but efficient service. Will definitely we back.

Lovely little charming place. Food was delicious. Service was okay. Male server was a bit blunt and not very warm overall. But being my first time, I would definitely return and recommend, as everyone else were lovely.

Wonderful, interesting food in a relaxed atmosphere. We were here mid week to celebrate a friend’s birthday. I think it was good value considering the quality of the food and wine.

Beautiful restaurant with warm, gently buzzing atmosphere and exquisite food prepared with great care and skill. A special shout out to my fellow liver lovers! If you are after a beautifully cooked, delicious liver dish, this is the place to come.

Fancett's is a small but cosy restaurant on Mill Road that cooks incredible seasonal dishes with skill and passion. I've been twice now, and both times have thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience. The à la carte menu provides a few options for each course, and everything I've eaten here has been delicious. They have a good wine list, a selection of cocktails and are more than happy to recommend a good pairing with your food. The staff were delightful, giving friendly and efficient service. The atmosphere is vibrant and judging by how quickly their booking page fills up, people seem to agree. I know I'll be back again, and again.

Fabulous meal with friends. The lamb was succulent and tender. The veg tasted fresh and cooked to perfection. Staff were excellent. Highly recommended and can’t wait to return.

A-M-A-Z-I-N-G (says my 9 year old) It is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to (I’ve been to approximately 100 restaurants!) (Says my 7 year old) Literally can’t believe there’s somewhere this good in Cambridge, and I’ve waited a whole year to come - what a waste of eating opportunities. All dishes were very good, two (cured mackerel and the lemon parfait) were exceptional. Very good value too. Can’t wait to come back again.

More then lived up to expectations superb lunch, great value and excellent food. My first visit, but wew will be back very soon, well done to Fancetts-just what is so lacking in Cambridge, independent excellence !

Again, sounds a bit dull on the menu, doesn’t it? Mushroom pasta. Stop the presses. Butternut squash in autumn? Groundbreaking. But the dish slowly reveals itself, little surprise after little surprise. A film of salty parmesan on the top. Caramelly carrots. Then, when you think you’ve mined the depths, little crisp bites of sage. Yes. And what’s this hiding underneath? Massive chestnuts.

Absolutely wonderful restaurant. Great staff, lovely atmosphere, well worth the 6 week wait for a table ! We went for our anniversary and had 3 courses + a glass of wine each and it was £138. Absolutely loved it. Thank you

The quality of the cuisine is superb. But the quantity*quality/price ratio is not good. Indeed, excellent cuisine does not compensate for portions that are too small and very expensive.

Initially we were on the standby list for last night and fortunately got lucky enough to go due to someone else’s last minute cancellation. We had a wonderful experience from start to finish! The set menu pricing, whilst not cheap, is good value and the service (thanks to Theo and Callum!) was excellent! This’ll be first on our list for our next visit to Cambridge!

Having read about this on line, we were looking forward to lunch here and we were not disapointed. Its a small menu, 2 choices of main, we chose a different one, both were delicious (the cheese soufflé, oh perfect). Dessert and cheese was also absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is fairly relaxed but the service was prompt and friendly. A really nice little bistro, we will definitely be back. We'll done to the whole team. 😁

Three of us had a most enjoyable lunch yesterday. All three of us enjoyed all 3 courses, which is quite something. Staff were warm and welcoming. Delicious glass of Cremant de Loire to start followed by several of the by-the-glass offerings - all good stuff. I have docked one star for the limited choices available at lunchtime. Choice of 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 deserts, whereas for dinner there are 4 of each. We knew that was the deal - they are quite up-front about the restricted lunch menu. I'm sure it helps keep cost, and waste, down. Hadn't quite appreciated that if there was an item you didn't fancy, it's Hobson's choice. Would love to return, and it will be for dinner :-)

My partner and I turned up 3 weeks before our booking, I got the date wrong!! They couldn’t accommodate us at the time, I was going to cancel the date I mistakenly booked, but kept it (01.03.24) we are sooooo glad we did, inside is very unassuming with about 30 covers max, it was plat du joir, you had 2 choices for each course. What we had to eat was absolutely amazing … 6 stars out of 5! Thank you for the wonderful experience, see you again Soon 👍

Went for dinner in the private dining room. Atmosphere was lovely, and service was quick and attentive - never needed to ask for more water. Each dish was delicious and really made for a special evening

The shine has come off! First thing we noticed is that the service was terrible, is this the best they can do? Menu has been very much reduced. The only vegetarian dish was a "hunk of cheese", meaning I could not choose a main dish for my fixed, two course price. Desserts too average and served almost frozen. It seems no one cares any more! Spoiled by their success?

What a wonderful evening. We were made very welcome, there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the food was delicious. Apparently they’re booked weeks in advance. I’m not at all surprised!

Fantastic restaurant, worth every (reasonable) penny. I have been many times, and each occasion it has been as good as the last. Service is friendly, food is exquisite and the whole atmosphere is fantastic. Staff are great at knowing when to check in and when to leave you alone. I must try them for lunch which is great value too!

Best restaurant meal I've had in Cambridge....or anywhere...for a very long time. Starters, mains and puds were nicely presented, beautifully cooked and all at a reasonable price. House red was super. We'll return!

Beautiful birthday lunch. Have had lunch at fancett's for most special occasions. As always was so fresh and spot on with taste. Fresh broccoli soup to start with blue cheese and thinly sliced almonds. I had a pork loin with cabbage, the creamiest mash I have ever eaten, black pudding and a gorgeous tasting jus.my husband ate a red mullet bouillabaisse with mussels and we both had an espresso brownie with hazelnut ice cream to finish. Cannot reccomend enough. Stunning .

A family restaurant, inspired by French bistro cuisine. Excellent prix fixed fine dining menu. Wonderful food. A wine list with superb wines to suit most budgets, including those ready to splash out as well as good value ones. Very friendly staff, efficient but not stuffy.

Every meal we’ve had here is brilliant. It’s within walking distance of our house so we should go more often but the rest of the community know it’s good too so it’s regularly booked up! (So you should make a booking 😉) Menu is simple but always with veggie, meat and fish options generally. It’s really like visiting a French bistro in France. They take real care with food and wines. A real treat (and the lunch set menu is a steal!)

We had a wonderful evening here, the food by Dan and the service by Holly, both exceptional! We had the private dining room for 6 of us, a lovely room with its own music and a large square table. The food itself was so well cooked, wonderfully presented and so so tasty!

Went for the set lunch, and it was just perfect. The food looks simple, but you can tell a lot of work and thought had gone into it. The lunch deal is extremely good value for this level of cooking. Highly recommend!

Wonderful meal. A nicely small and well structured menu, with some excellent drink options. Absolutely loved the tasteful and subtle interior. The welcome was warm. The staff friendly, funny and knew the menu…such a refreshing change. Worth it.

Excellent value for money for a fine dining, three course lunch. The service was exceptional. Very friendly staff and not at all overly pushy. The food was of a very high quality, presented beautifully. The highlight was the “Velouté of coco de paimpol with truffled chantilly”. In my opinion Fancett’s sits in the top three restaurants in Cambridge, behind the 2 star Midsummer House and 1 star restaurant 22. Can’t wait to return.

Small place in Mill road (Cambridge) but is very worth to go. The wine menu is beautiful and the price to the quality of the wine is amazing. They gave us a glass of prosecco as courtesy (was our wedding anniversary), the bread was perfect and the duck was beautiful cooked. Is a well combination of French and English food.

2e fois dans ce restaurant et certainement pas la dernière. Le menu du soir (3 plats à £48) est vraiment d'un excellent rapport qualité/prix. Nous nous sommes régalés avec en entrée la soupe de champignons pour certains et la tartelette chèvre betteraves pour les autres, pour suivre la lotte et enfin pour le dessert la tartelette au chocolat/pistache et la mousse de framboises façon crumble. Tous les plats étaient vraiment très fins et parfaitement cuisinés. Une valeur sûre à Cambridge.

Lovely bijou bistro. Small but excellent lunch menu, the pollack and mussel stew was delicious, perfectly cooked. Truffle seasoning in the home for the cheese course also spot on

A small selection for lunch, so a couple can try almost everything! Each dish we had tasted great and there were some genuinely surprising elements, like the sweet and vinegary mushrooms nestled in a delicate soup. We left with big smiles on our faces.

We were celebrating my brothers 50th birthday. Fantastic food, great service and very friendly. Soufflé was amazing! We will definitely be back!!

Firstly the people provide such a warm and attentive experience. At my second visit our waitress Yuliia remembered my favourite course from our first visit. There is no wine up selling but skilful listening and matching - I was recommended a less expensive wine to accompany my menu choice, which worked so well. This is a heavenly venue if you enjoy people, high quality service, and fresh well presented produce with good value prices.

Fancett’s Another lovely experience. Greeted by a friendly team upon entry. Lovely big plump Gordal olives and fluffy focaccia bread on the house. Starters: The gazpacho plus cod bignets were refreshing. The beef carpaccio was excellent. Main: The pork chop with nduja was juicy and super tasty with anchovies and roasted peppers. A nice balance of spice, sweet and salt. Dessert: The chocolate mousse and apricot soufflé with dark chocolate ice cream was worth the calories. The wine list was varied and excitingly plentiful. We enjoyed our carafe of Sicilian red. The team were very attentive without being in your face. Nice friendly smiles. They deserve the positive feedback and reviews plus being mentioned in the Michelin guide. Sorry we tucked into the gazpacho and carpaccio before taking photos!

Food was OK but really small portions. Service was rather poor. We had been served by a waiter (I think he is greek - Sorry I don't know his name so I have no other way to identify him!), he was rather slow and definitely with an inappropriate attitude.

We had an amazing dinner and I appreciate the birthday champagne! The service and all of the courses were very well thought out and all very delicious.

The salt cod brandade stuffed piquillo peppers (main) and Saint-Marcellin with crackers (dessert, not for you if you're not into strong cheeses) were our highlights! The caprese salad was not bad too. The food was generally of a good quality and appropriately priced.

Quite simply the best affordable restaurant in Cambridge. Everything is home made and absolutely delicious. I’ve been about 5 times since its opening in September 2021. Would recommend lunch for people looking for a cheaper deal as they do 2 or 3 courses for 20 and 25£, but the dinners are a cut above as attention to detail and ingredients tend to be more refined. Only downside is booking tends to be weeks in advance for weekends, but is better for weekdays especially lunch!

The food and service were very nice. The menu has a fixed price which reflects the quality of the food. It can be pricey if you also have wine. It reminded me a little bit of a restaurant we used to visit in Chiswick - le Vacherin but much smaller and intimate. The steak tartare, which is not so often found on menus in England, I found particularly delicious. I thought we had found a gem of a restaurant in Cambridge (which obviously has a lot less choice than London). Unfortunately there was an extremely drunk and verbally abusive old lady on the table next to us who started making really nasty insults at me which upset me a lot and completely ruined the experience. I’m not sure I would want to return because of that experience. (We had been there celebrating our anniversary)

The food was so good!! Well-made unique twists on classic dishes. Go there if you can get a booking. Not somewhere I could afford regularly, but perfect for a special treat. They were nice friendly staff too.

Favourite meal I’ve had in Cambridge to date. Felt like fine dining but at an affordable price. So many nice touches such as focaccia to start and homemade truffles to end, both not added to the bill. Excited to return as they said they change their menu often.

We feel blessed that we live within a few minutes walk of a restaurant of this quality. It's the second year now that we have come here for my birthday and there's no doubt we will be back for as long as they are open. We would come more often, but it's just sooooooo hard to get a table! Thanks for the amazing food and wine. Loved it.

Incredibly disappointing experience. This place was closed on a Saturday night, despite us pre-booking over the phone and the opening hours saying it’s open on a Saturday night and receiving (and double checking) a confirmation email. We received no notice of a cancellation from them. This was very poor, and meant we had to walk a considerable distance to find somewhere else on a Saturday night, when most other restaurants were full.

Great atmosphere and service. Proper classic French but homemade style. Sausage roll had such a strong flavour that you could never taste from other sausage rolls. Mackerel was my favourite dish indeed. The fish was definitely fresh and so tender and goes so well with celeriac & horseradish. Brilliant dessert as well and very impressed with affogato. Highly recommend 3 courses lunch with reasonable price. Definitely planning to come back soon to try few different menus.
