Bread & Meat in Cambridge

We arrived at just gone midday and there was already a queue forming on the street! Because it was just the two of us, we got seated straight away - although it was at the stools directly in front of the window which meant the people in the queue outside were all staring hungrily at us while we ate, and we did feel a bit like animals in a zoo. My partner ordered the porchetta ciabatta and a poutine side, while I had the honey soy chicken bowl. Everything tasted fab and came in decent portions, and the servers were friendly and efficient. We had a nice lunch and I would happily eat here again, though I probably wouldn’t be prepared to queue up for it…

My first time trying Bread & Meat. We had a takeaway Philly cheese steak with half jalapeños and half without. With then their pot of gravy! So tender and seasoned really well. I’m not a huge fan of sourdough bread sometimes but this was so fresh. The gravy had so many flavours. I can’t wait to go back again and try some more sandwiches! 9.6/10!

I’ve taken every guest I’ve had here in the last few months and it is always top quality service and food. The Philly cheesesteak and poutine are some of the best things I’ve eaten in years. The to-go option is great if you can’t get a seat in the restaurant. Pricey for sandwiches, but a favourite for a reason!

Worth the wait! When we arrived here on a warm Saturday afternoon there was a bit of a wait (~20 minutes) but it was completely worth it. This was probably my favourite food place I visited in Cambridge, I had the honey soy chicken sandwich and it was nothing short of sensational, the bread was lovely and the meat was juicy and succulent. It is quite a small space so you will likely be sat next to strangers but the food totally makes up for any spacing constraints!

Solid sandwiches, quality meat and bread, aptly named. Very filling. The poutine was so so, fries not that crispy and cheese curds don’t have the characteristic squeak I would expect from a proper cheese curd.

Ordered Philly Cheese Steak Ciabatta, potato wedges and homemade lemonade. Ciabatta is toasted and flavours are good. Although the Philly Cheese Steak Ciabatta was very greasy; from the cheese rather than fatty oils. Seating is limited given popularity so queue was constant. Takeaway is available. Service is friendly. Price is a little expensive.

The poutine was delicious, warm and tasteful. The menu was simple yet it had options for all dietary needs. The shop itself is rather small so we recommend anticipating the wait of about 15-30 minutes - longer for a bigger group.

Stumbled upon this place from google maps and the high review ratio and we were definitely not disappointed. Truly excellent food which was so tasty and worth it! The menu is a bit confusing so make sure to double check what you want. Recommend the sandwiches but the poutine is also excellent and the beef gravy made the dish. Enough seat options for dining in but may have to wait and que during peak hours. Service was quick and nice would recommend for sure and if i’m back in Cambridge I’ll definitely come visit again!

The porchetta poutine here is my favourite food in the entire world. The staff are all fantastic, service is quick and the food is always delicious.

I ordered the honey soy chicken bowl. It was really disappointing. The chicken was very fatty and full of gristle. I ended up spending some time having to dissect it to try and find edible pieces. Not worth the money charged. Also very few wedges with the bowl mostly just a heap of rocket.

Decent sandwich, slow takeaway service, quite pricey. Friend got told off for asking their sandwich be cut after it was handed over; too busy to do such a small thing.

I had the Honey Soy Chicken Ciabatta with jalapeños (£12) today, as a takeaway. The bread was deliciously crispy and initially the taste of the chicken (with pickled mooli and sriracha mayo) was delicious. However on my 3rd mouthful I had a large piece of chicken that was very unpleasant. It was unchewable so I had to spit it out. At best it was a flabby bit of skin, at worst uncooked chicken (it looked very pink). Either way it was really horrible and unfortunately put me off eating anymore of the sandwich. (I was 15 minutes away when I ate it otherwise I would have gone back for a refund). It had the potential to be a top notch sandwich so it’s a shame that more care isn’t taken when preparing the chicken…..I’m sure the staff wouldn’t want to eat a large flabby bit of pink chicken ☹️

The honey chicken bread is so amazing. So so good. Staffs are so friendly as well. I will come back to Cambridge for this

Went for the fourth time today, AND AGAIN perfection! Can't beat it, definitely worth a try! Top stuff!

Visited here for lunch on a Saturday. The wait was minimal for how busy it was which was great. The staff were friendly and the place had a nice sort of craft pub atmosphere, nothing too fancy, just good food is the impression I got. I had the garlic soy chicken ciabatta and it was absolutely fantastic. The flavours weren't overpowering the chicken, and it was so tender and juicy. The ciabatta though was the star, I've never experienced such a soft and easy-to-eat ciabatta. The inside was so light and the outside was crispy but not in a way that hurt your gums when you bit into it. The crispiness of the crumb with the softer chicken thigh was a great pairing and the sriracha mayo was a delicious accompaniment. Can't fault the experience.

This place was a revelation to me - Philly cheese steak poutine?! Yes please! Absolutely delicious, and generous with the portion size. No wonder this place was packed. I'll be coming here again next time I visit Cambridge, no doubt about it.

They have a pretty limited menu for good reason- every single thing they offer is absolutely spot on. Honey soy chicken is fabulous, very flavorful. Philly cheesesteak is also great! Poutine is top too. I love that I can get a bowl when I want to make it more healthy. Specials are consistently fabulous. In short - if you like bread and you like meat, GO!

This place was recommended to me yesterday. So I arrived with my partner to find the place empty. We sat down and looked at the menu and there were only about 6 options. When I read at the bottom that an automatic 12.5% charge would be applied, at that moment my partner and I stood up and left. I do not agree with those terms at all. We went next door and ate at a pub for half the price with no greed tax.

Brilliant lunch out with family! Food absolutely delicious, and very welcome after the wait in the queue but 100% worth it. Friendly staff and busy welcoming atmosphere, especially sharing tables with other diners! Very professional dealing with dietary requirements. Will definitely be coming back :)

Such great food! Recommend the Prochetta ciabatta! We had to wait in line for about 15 mins on a Sunday, but it was worth it. A little cramped inside and you may have to share the table at times with other customers. Servers were friendly and efficient.

Both are absolutely incredible, but there is clearly a winner: Honey soy chicken. A light sandwich, on a crispy and warm bread that served as a bed for a juicy and flavorful chicken. There is no mistaking it and nothing more to say, if you are looking for a good sandwich in a cold winter, this is the right option to warm your hearts and your bellies.

Reliably delicious, plentiful and uncomplicated food, small and foolproof menu with just enough special action to keep us interested but never neglecting their signature dishes. Pleasantly informal setting, very friendly and helpful service, unobtrusive but responsive to questions and needs. It's usually possible to get a table despite it being always well frequented. They've found a winning formula, I hope they never change it.

Casi me fui del sándwich estándar, pero me alegro de haber optado por la poutine. Los filetes de queso, patatas fritas y salsa eran exactamente lo que se necesitaba después de un largo paseo por el río. Bono extra que tenían algunos crepitantes sobrantes que nos dieron a los que estábamos en el restaurante gratis, que fue un toque muy agradable!

We took a takeaway. Philly cheese steak sandwich was balanced and so satisfying, we will be back to try the other options soon. The girls taking care of the takeaways in the back are the stars: friendly, quick and extremely helpful ❤️🤗

Very delicious and high quality food. First, you choose the meat or chicken you want to eat, and then you choose whether you want to eat it on bread, on roasted potatoes, or in a bowl with steamed vegetables and salads. Good food, very tasty and different. However it doesn't allow reservations and it is tightly squashed. Also the menu is a bit confusing between what comes on samdwiches and poutine. Food was lovely and staff very accomodating. A kids menu (half sandwich?) would be really good. Central location is handy.

Bread & Meat were one of the places that I picked for my family to definitely go on our time in Cambridge. I do recommend to wisely go whenever it is quiter as you could be joining in a long queue to get a table. Though you can always have the food as takeaway if you want. There was a charge for service which I was fine with but there wasn't any outstanding services. The place can also get really tight ahen you're eating in. For the food, I got the Porchetta Ciabbata and Dirty Chai since it was cold. The rest of the family got the Pulled Pork Ciabbatta, Honey Soy Chicken Ciabatta and the Philly Cheese Steak Poutine. The food was delicious, especially the Porchetta, the pork was so juicy and succulent, I recommend it the most. It was so good that I got it again for takeaway later in the evening, this place is worth a visit when you're in Cambridge

Got porchetta sandwich takeaway. It was good and a large size. Only shaving off a star because the takeaway orders are done in a dingy corridor where you have to ring a bell, someone comes out to take your order, and you have to wait out in the cold. Not the best experience. #Cambridge

Canadian Style Didn't expect 'Poutine' means meat and chips in gravy at all. We always thought it charges extra because it's a ciabatta sandwich with chips as a side. I should have read the reviews before coming, my bad. The sandwich is okay. At least it's a hot sandwich. But the pork cracking was a bit too hard for teeth. I strongly suggest you biting it really slow, you know, Canadians' way. The Poutine is very salty. The chips became very soggy because of the salty gravy. We failed to finish the dish. Not sure about this Canadian style. But the service was good. Clean environment. Price was reasonable in Cambridge town centre.

I got a takeaway of the beef brisket sandwich and I can’t believe I hadn’t tried it earlier. Absolutely loved the sourdough bread and the meat combination. Highly recommended!

Went for a mini date night and had heard amazing things about Bread & Meat. Honestly amazing food my other half had the honey soy chicken sandwich with a side of poutine and it was all stunning. I chose the philly cheese steak bowl (gluten free as I am coeliac) and it was amazing, highly highly reccomend we will be back at some point!

The food is very nice! I tried the Poutine - Beef Brisket. Delicious, the beef was falling apart. It was just a little too salty, other than that no complaints. The restaurant is located near The Eagle and King’s Parade, so very central. Definitely worth popping in 😊

Pros✅: Food was so so so good, I highly recommend anyone visiting Cambridge to come here for lunch. The porchetta ciabatta was delicious and my favourite part was the crackling and salsa verde. The bread is also very fresh and served hot. I highly recommend the poutine - the gravy was the best part. Good value for money. Cons❌: Can get super busy during peak times. We arrived at around 12pm on a weekday and there was a queue of about 7 people ahead of us. We only had to wait for about 10 mins as the place has very quick turnover of customers like a fast service food restaurant. Great place for honest quality grub. Small menu which is good, and top quality pork and chicken. The bowl is a good option for meat and veg to fill u up. Great milkshakes too. Good service too. Will be back.

Very odd and uncomfortable experience with the management. We were a group of four, and upon arrival, we were immediately directed to an uncomfortable table. What made this experience more noticeable was that we were the only customers of color in the restaurant. Shortly after we sat down, a white family of three took the very table that had been denied to us.

I found a tasty and healthy dish, I asked to remove dairy products, no problem. I enjoyed the food, the service and the vibe. Makes me want to return.

Had the weekly special- the Jerk chicken sandwich in ciabatta bread. Can comfortably say it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The size of the sandwich was extremely good value for the price. A must visit!

Great small cafe. The Philly cheesesteak is amazing. My favourite meal to get in all of Cambridge. Milkshakes are large sizes and delicious. Only thing I don’t like is sometimes the laminated menus are a bit greasy.

Let me start this off by saying I absolutely love this place. It’s one of 3 places that I visit religiously the one time a year that I’m in Cambridge. Unfortunately I was left a bit disappointed today. The food still tastes great but the portion size of the meat and crackling (porchetta) was way less than usual, maybe 1/3 less. I definitely didn’t get crackling in every bite like I usually would. The price is now £11 for a sandwich, it was £10 the last time I was here. (July ‘23) I get it, costs go up and prices have to too, but you can’t reduce the portion sizes and increase the price. It’s a shame, this place was the first thing that comes to mind whenever Cambridge is mentioned around me, I recommend it to anyone that comes this way. Maybe I caught them on an off day, we’ll see how they do on my next visit.

Walking by this restaurant and saw a beautiful pork roast with craklins (chichirones) surrounding it and was lured in by the smell and looks. The food was fabulous. We had been in England for a week and the will be my most memorable meal. My wife asked the owner how he achieved the craklin and rather than try and keep.it a secret he went through the lengthy procedure needed to create the meat. This is gem and I hope the people of Cambridge realize how fortunate they are! Truly unique, truly delicious!
