Absolutely delighted by my brithday dinner experience here! everything was satisfying - food was absolutely delicious, excellent service and cozy atmosphere. Highly recommend for anyone looking to make their special day even more special!

2nd visit, 2 years apart. Both very impressed. Food is fantastic and the dining room feels very high end. I’d come more but I have a toddler and rarely get out!

One of the nicest place you could have a meal whilst in Cambridge. The restaurant's pub exterior is deceiving as upon entering, it has an elegant and understated interior that gives you the impression you're going to be in for a treat. The food is a wonderful fusion of French and Asian. Once again, when it comes to presentation, the food was very simply and elegantly plated. I had the duck confit for the main and sticky toffee pudding for dessert, and two weeks later I'm still thinking about the dishes. The selection of wines were delish and also very reasonably priced. Service was attentive and very personable as one of the owners Gan was serving that evening. Overall, I had a great evening spent at Sole and Duck. The food was faultless, as was the service. We had three courses plus wine and a cocktail, and we were shocked at how reasonably priced it was! A fabulous way to finish my UK/Cambridge visit. Thank you Gan!

We had a lovely Sunday roast here. However it was a shame we were left un attended for the first 15mins without so much as the tap water or asked for drinks. They did however pick up the service and bring drinks nice and quick. The staff were very friendly shame the table next to us had 3 very loud men almost shouting at each other.

We went to the restaurant for my partners birthday tonight and all of the staff were absolutely lovely. There was a small error with the food and they were exceptionally gracious and helpful. We look forward to going back soon as the food is exceptional and every time we go we have a super time.

Starter octopus was very good, while the crispy duck was not crispy at all. The steak was outstanding, definitely the best among others. It was a hard decision but the fish was finally described as the second best. The sunday roasts were okay. I would not choose pandan creme burlee next time. A bit pricy for the food quality, but still a good choice.

Our son and daughter took us to the Sole and Duck today. The atmosphere was great, the service excellent and the food sublime. Restaurants in Cambridge, wake up. You should aspire to reach their standards.

Service was slow and unprofessional. We waited for our courses for a while and ask our server when the food is gonna be ready.No acknowledge from a server after, a while owner came over to reassure food is coming witch the guy was drunk and slurring his words.We could smell alcohol from a mile. Overall food was OK but overall experience was hectic.

Yet another fabulous meal at this elegant, friendly restaurant. My husband, our daughter and myself went last night and the food was (as always) delicious. We first had some lovely cocktails and a beer in the bar seating area, we were shown to our table. After looking at the quite short menu (always a sign of freshly cooked food) my husband chose the pan-fried tiger prawns in garlic butter with homemade sourdough and our daughter and I both had the crispy duck & pancakes for starters. Absolutely delicious! My husband then had the “best steak I’ve had for ages”, whilst our daughter and I enjoyed the wonderful pork belly with amazing crackling served with a gravy boat on the side. All the choices were served with freshly cooked vegetables and were beautifully served. I then tried the yoghurt panna cotta (yum) for dessert and our daughter loved her artisan honeycomb ice cream & wafer. My husband couldn’t eat any more and settled on a coffee (he is very hard to please with coffee) and always enjoys the coffees here. The accompanying wines, as usual, were excellent. This restaurant is bright, exceptionally clean and tastefully decorated. The food is fresh & tasty and beautifully prepared to order. The owner, Gan, makes you feel welcome as soon as you enter, as do the rest of his staff. What more could you want? Try it and see.

What a disappointment this time. We've been here a number of times and always enjoyed good quality food. The real disappointment was the Christmas dinner. The turkey was dry, potatoes rubbery and veg was raw. The rest of the dishes were ok to good, but having previously come here for sunday roasts and really enjoyed them, we were really disappointed. We visited on a Saturday lunch time and it was not very busy.

We had a fabulous Sunday lunch. The garlic prawns were amazing and my husband said best roast beef he’d ever had. Can’t wait to come again.

Background - usually love this place and a regular and previous 5 star ⭐️ review. However tonight disappointed and will explain why. Whilst food as always was high quality we were sat on the left as you go in on the elevated area. A group of 6 were sat next to us who were the loudest group I’ve ever had to sit next to in a restaurant and totally obnoxious with it. The ladies in the group were actually screaming across the table. So much so you couldn’t hear yourself at all. I asked the waiter if he could ask them please to be a little quieter and he said no. It ended up with 3 out of 4 couples next to them moving to sit in the bar (including us as we were shouting at each other and couldn’t hear at all). At the end I asked them why this was acceptable as had put a dampener on our long awaited evening. I was informed that the six of them had paid over £1000 for dinner with pre ordered wagyu steaks etc. And there it is. My £200 tonight as a regular customer (usually once a month) was not enough to be treated with respect and not have my evening ruined. He who pays more can treat all the other customers with a total lack of respect and scream across a dining room all night causing everyone around them to have to move without an issue as they pay more. The manger could and should have dealt with this better. Regardless of the money they were paying they should not have been allowed to ruin everyone else’s night by behaving in this manner but it appears cold had cash is all that matters to sole and duck. I certainly won’t be popping along every month moving forward as they’ve made it clear where their priorities lie.

Wonderful food, excellent wine and a great outstanding service. Lost a star on atmosphere only because we had a very loud group near us. Only downside was picking just one dish for each course from a great menu. I really appreciated the care with my allergy. Will be recommending to others!

Only giving 4 stars for service as the staff is quite young and learning (nothing wrong with that of course). Otherwise 5 stars! The food is very good. The owner is on the floor. I'm updating my review as they had just opened and now the young wait staff are all very professional and the quality of the food is unwavering and excellent.

My wife and I had lunch at the Sole and Duck last Friday to celebrate her birthday. It's a hdden gem and one of the best restaurants in Cambridge. Warm welcome and excelent serivce without being overbearing. My wife started with smoked mackerel which was outstanding. I couldn't make up my mind which starter to have... so I had two! Somebodymust have heard me say 'happy birthday. At the end of the meaal the waiter arrrived with a candle in an ice cream with happy Birthday written in chocolate on the plate. If we could give six stars we would.

Highly recommended by my friend that lives in Cambridge, this restaurant appears seemingly rustic at the outside, but surprises you with an absolutely delicious meal. From the starters, main, wine, all the way to dessert, everything was beyond perfect. Went out of the usual duck plates (they are popular for this they said) but I ordered the tiger prawns to start, catch of the day and vanilla parfait. Very very delicious!!! I would eat here again (and again) not just for the food but for the great service too!

First time back to the restaurant since Covid, to try it out under its new management. What a transformation! Beautifully decorated and lovely welcome by the staff. Knowledgeable staff too who helped us decide how our steak should be cooked. I had the set menu which was very good value for money and a large glass of wine which was reasonably priced too. It was in the quiet side for a Thursday so am hopeful that it gets busier over weekends. I would throughly recommend this restaurant as a place to meet with friends or for a special occasion. I probably wouldn’t bring my children here, so I’d save it for “grown-up only” meals out.

Sunday lunch to recover from and celebrate son’s house move. Warm welcome, excellent food and attentive service. We all enjoyed tender beef sirloin with well judged vegetables. Also diverse starters including delicately flavoured smoked salmon. First visit. We will be back soon!

The service was amazing. We went there on Sunday and we tried the Sunday roast. The beef was very nice cooked and the dessert beautiful. However, the beetroot tartare as starter in my opinion was one of the best. The price is very worth.

We drove past this restaurant and thought the place looked nice so decided to ring and see if we could get a table for later on and they managed to squeeze us in. Staff were very helpful and polite and the food was absolutely beautiful along with the wine.

We've visited on numerous occasions, the latest on a sunday lunchtime. In summary, the warm greeting was followed by great service and wonderful food. We went for starters, followed by the roast option, with particular highlights being the prawn and tuna starters followed by the roast beef, tasty accompaniments and an amazing cauliflower cheese; all in all, awesome!

Totally delicious and super service at Sole & Duck. I had never heard of this restaurant but was taken by my daughter and son in law for lunch. It looks like a very old pub that’s now a restaurant. Food was a mixture of different Asian classics fused with pub classics. So instead of a beef burger I ordered a Crispy Hoisin Duck Burger that was fantastic. Came with slaw and chips like a classic pub burger but way more interesting as a generous amount slab of Chinese duck and crispy duck skin plus a thick Smokey bacon that went so well with it. I had a tuna tataki to start that was pretty and delicate with a crunchy pepper crust served with micro greens and a dipping bowl with a light fragrant soy rice wine mix. The others tried Korean chicken starter with a sticky glorious sauce and the pork belly or lamb mains which didn’t have Asian twists but were full flavoured and good (not overwhelming) portions. Choice of wines by the glass by the way are great but at the higher end of the spectrum - I was the only one drinking wine which was probably a good thing. Good amount of parking at the back of the restaurant.

I attempted to have dinner last night. Steak really expensive, at 39 and still have to pay extra if want vegetables. Steak sauce only one on offer is peppercorn, which is great if not allergic to cracked pepper. WaIter was asked, if any other type sauces, but only option offered was, we just leave it off, expensive dish to miss one element without having alternative in its place. The gentleman who showed me to my seat, did not want to acknowledge me after that at all. The next young waiter offered me the allergy menu (has more ingedients highlighted - great idea). After that I felt totally ignored. Even the manager kept walking past like I was invisible. So as having just tap water, I put my coat back on, which didnt attract attention, surprisingly, as it got caught on the back of my chair, I was flapping around, not elegant by any means. I got up, still unchallenged and left. Must say they did have other customers of two or more turning up. Table for one, would not earn them much, maybe why I was ignored. Very expensive, limited choices or wiggle room. Left very disappointed. Tip : when someone eats alone, they still need to feel special and seen ! One positive; Parking nearby, diasbled entrance, great addition.

Visited here for the first time with a friend will NEVER go again was greeted by the manager who showed us to our table and told us Max would be looking after us for the evening. I ordered prawns In garlic butter when they arrived they were swimming in a very dark brown sauce that was pretty off putting with a piece of sour dough bread. I had duck breast which was served with some sort of orange puree and cavolo nero. I sent it back as it was stone cold the manager apologised and said would cook fresh one, he returned less than 5 mins later, I took one look at it and said to my friend I can't cut this, it is like rubber!! after sawing away at it I finally managed to cut it in half and it was RAW all the way through I felt physically SICK.I did not want to have anything else. The only good thing about this place was the waiter Max who was really friendly. The manager needs to have serious words with the chefs luckily I didn't eat any of the RAW duck otherwise I would have definately had serious food poisoning tomorrow. All I can say is I won't EVER be going back there again

Excellent food and service. Went for a birthday celebration with my husband, our son and his girlfriend. Food was tasty and beautiful presented - with the only disappointment being they had run out of two of the three flavours of sorbet. The service was friendly and relaxed. All in all a lovely way to spend an afternoon - we will be back!

Great food and dining experience. I had the tiger prawns starter and the chicken balantine main course. Both dishes were cooked perfectly and the meat was tasty and succulent. I understand the bread is frashly baked on the premises too. I highly recommend this unique restaurant.

I booked a birthday meal with my son & daughter after spotting Sole & Duck by accident & I’m so glad I did. It was an absolutely superb meal, in a lovely restaurant with great ambience & impeccable service by lovely staff, who were attentive but not intrusive. I couldn’t fault anything about it. When booking online, you can state if it’s a special occasion & when my dessert arrived it was on a long plate with Happy Birthday written beautifully in chocolate next to the dessert - the perfect little personal touch. The melt in your mouth fillet steak & very tasty duck burger were perfect. The comfortable seating (important for me as I have arthritis) & large parking area at the back are a great bonus. A little on the higher price side but absolutely worth every penny & will definitely be going again.

Elegant well furnished restaurant just off main road with easy approach road to large Car Park. Easy website booking. Comfortable seats and tables and discrete distance. carpeted. Refined ambience. Front of house greeting. Food was excellent, well presented. Sunday Lunch menu taken. Large portions. Prawns in garlic with sour bread in olive oil, delicious, main beef pink inside and outer done well. Beautifully presented with thin Yorkshire pudding and vegs. Wife had pork belly again very good. She commented that thin strips had equal balance of meat and fat and would have preferred more meat. Sweets again excellent. Two courses and drinks with gratuity came to £98.This will be my go-to-place when entertaining or taking my wife for treat.

Hugely disappointed to have our table cancelled two days before coming. A special family occasion has been ruined after being booked very well in advance. Let down by email due to not having pre ordered food we did not know had to be pre ordered. No previous email until instruction of cancellation. Will not be using them again this is very poor customer service

Eating at this superb, elegant fine dining restaurant is a joy. The food is taken to another level - and the whole experience is delightful. The menu is fairly limited - because all the dishes are cooked fresh to order - but they are very carefully chosen, to use seasonal ingredients. Even so, there is plenty to choose from. The fish dishes are really delicious, as well as other choices of steak, lamb, pork, chicken, pasta and vegetarian. All finished off with indulgent freshly made desserts. Love it.

First time visiting Sole & Duck, and it definitely wouldn't be the last time. Service was absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately I didn't get the name of the man who looked after us, but he was fantastic. The food was simply perfect, the size of the portions was very generous also. I feel it is very very very rare to find a place that has no flaws, but the Sole & Duck has hit the nail on the head. A real gem if a restaurant, keep it up!

Best place for dinner around Cambridge. You don't need to jam into the busy city centre and still get fantastic food and service. Very friendly staffs and cozy atmosphere. We went as a big group of 10 and everyone enjoy it very much.

The best place for dinner in Trumpington

Sole & Duck is one of my favourite places to eat in Cambridge. The food has always been beautifully constructed, with friendly service and a really comfortable atmosphere. An annoying issue is that, on several occasions, the vegetarian option has been delicious but with barely any sources of protein, so they end up really unsatisfying. In the worst case, the vegan roast simply replaced very large meat portions with "more cabbage", and for the same high price. The menu changes often so this might not always be the case, but I'd love to see the same care applied to the nutrition as the rest of the experience. Will definitely go back but not without carefully scrutinising the menu for good options first!

Not the best restaurant considering the price however it does have good interior and vibe. Soup, garlic prawn and Korean chicken were good choices for appetisers. Although seafood boil and duck were disappointing. The seafood boil was special menu of the day but it was full of muscles as you can see instead of scallops or other ingredients so was not happy with the quality. Duck was bit undercooked but sauce was good, sweet potato mash was very nice too however not sure about the deep fried duck ball. Black cod was the only thing that impressed bc and worth do preorder as the texture is very soft yet tender and well glazed. Service was not too bad but one of the staffs are very young and quite inexperienced. Literally don’t know how to open the wine bottle and never refill the glass for us. Hope the quality of the food will be improved for the price.

Fantastic food, excellent service and elegant atmosphere. I went for a late Sunday lunch and had a wonderful experience. No detail was too much for the staff. The server, Ray was very personable, welcoming, always smiling and provided excellent recommendations. The set menu was complete with wine pairings for each dish and there was also an extensive drinks menu to go with it. Food is sourced locally and a wonderful taste of the best of what Britain has to offer. Dessert is top notch and portions are wonderfully generous. Can’t wait to go back! Thank you!

The roast dinner here was THE BEST roast dinner I've ever had and that is saying something. It's a set menu, had the Jerusalem Artichoke soup to start 😋 just wow. I'll definitely be going back here very soon. Make sure you book as its very popular.

By far, this is the best restaurant in Cambridge! Food is exquisite and worth the value you pay for, unlike other restaurants that charge so much for food that you can prepare better at home. Bardzo dobre jedzenie podają w tej restauracji. Lokal jest gustownie urządzony, tworzy klimat spotkań z przyjaciółmi w małym i większym gronie. Bardzo dobra obsługa, no ale przede wszystkim pyszne dania i dobrze skomponowane do posiłku wina.

I was greatly surprised. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff was really nice and polite., Starters were delicious, tuna roll was my favourite..the cod was really fresh with the sauce and sides..I did try the fillet that was tender and full of flavour.. We will back

Yum & Sunday Roast is very big proportion

We've had meals here several times and each time everything was perfect. The staff is very friendly and professional. The food is excellent (the tiger prawns are definitely the menu's highlight!) and the service is second to none. Compared to other restaurants in Cambridge, it is a bit pricey but in my opinion it is definitely worthy. I love the location because specially on a weekend the last thing I want to do is to spend ages stuck in traffic and looking for parking in the city centre. Here I don't have to worry about that. It also doesn't get as busy as other places so we've been lucky enough to always get a table even as walk-ins. For all of these reasons I've been hesitant to share my review, since I wanted to keep this little gem to myself for as long as possible but I do think they deserve to be recognised and have lots of success so here it is. If you don't trust me, just go and try it for yourself ;)

Really nice atmosphere and amazing food!

Well cooked and flavoursome food, peaceful atmosphere for a family meal. Only slight quibble was the exceptionally long and ornate nails of a member of the serving team, ok they are not be prepping food, but they do raise hygiene concerns.

Have absolutely no complaints about the food. My complaint comes from the 12.5% service charge as there were over 8 of us. While I’m prepared to pay for good service we weren’t given this and were forgotten for half of the evening. We only had one drink each as we weren’t asked again if we’d like any more. 2 members of our party couldn’t make the meal. We’d paid a deposit and they of course expected to lose it. What we didn’t expect was to have to pay for their meal and for them to be given a gift card minus the £20 deposit. Although the food was lovely I won’t be recommending it or returning. Don’t expect a value for money meal.

Unusual fusion of Asian and European styles of cooking. Tasty food - quite expensive. Had the mixed fish bowl special which was very good but not wow and had several damaged mussels which couldn't be eaten. Would however return for a special occasion and staff were attentive and friendly.

Had a wonderful dinner here with our friends last week. Once you walk in, a modern deco yet with a cozy ambience. A great selection on the menu, food looks amazing as well as drinks, especially the seafood. Crispy duck and garlic butter prawns are must try. We also had the chance to try their festive seafood menu, Delicious! Everything is up to high standards. Owner and staff are friendly, professional and attentive. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The food we ordered there tastes very good. Duck burger and duck breast. The duck breast could have been cooked for a bit longer, but its still good. Focaccia was perfectly made, best I had so far. Food presentation was nice as well the service there, friendly, helpful and quick. The prices are very reasonable there too. Definitely recommended.

The atmosphere and the food were fantastic. The ribeye was cooked to perfection! And the staff are so knowledgable and lovely. They asked for dietary requirements at the door and then informed our waiter who took them into account when answering question about the food.

5 star experience yesterday for lunch! We booked for 17 of us to celebrate our Mum’s 70th birthday. The food was absolutely delicious and first class service. Our booking included allergies which was no problem for the restaurant. I absolutely recommend and will be returning soon. Thank you for making the birthday run so smoothly.

Four of us had a really great meal here. Very subtle chic ambience/decor, excellent menu, perfect service and most importantly delicious food. My Korean steak tartare was the best I ever had (which to be fair, is only a few) - interesting Asian flavours and a good chilli back-hit. The sole was perfectly cooked, though with hindsight, I'd have asked for new potatoes rather than Bombay potatoes, which were a bit underwhelming. Also could have done with a bit more spinach. Anyway, we all loved it and will go back again I'm sure.

Really enjoyed our time here! We had Sunday roast, and both the Beef & Pork were very tasty with the accompanying vegetables. There is a good selection of desserts to choose from; Sticky toffee pudding, Pannacotta, Cheesecake & More... Staff were welcoming and friendly.

It was a beautiful birthday event, everything went smoothly. The place was nice and cozy, really quiet and romantic. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely heavenly, we really enjoyed it. The place has a big wine list to browse and many nice plates to go along with it. Ideally book beforehand, especially if there is a special occasion, they accept bookings online.
