We are for lunch at 1:15. Wanted something simple so we ordered Ham Egg and chips x 2. Served by very polite staff. When our meal arrived we were sadly disappointed. Chips were freshly cooked. But, the ham was cut so thin you could see the plate through it. One slice, I don’t think that they could buy cheaper. The eggs looked like they had been leftover from breakfast and wormed up under the grill. Not a good experience at all. What a shame could and should have been a simple enjoyable lunch, it wasn’t. Lesson learned.

We were here for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday, so expected it to be busy with slow service. However it was a lovely surprise! The food was brilliant. We had one Huntsman’s platter, which was huge, and beautifully presented, at £15.95, and one Jacket potato, with Brie, bacon and cranberry sauce - well cooked, delicious and well presented- at £8.95. The food appeared very quickly after ordering, and the staff were great. The Huntsman’s was maybe a bit expensive, but when we saw what was on the platter, we could see why. Enough for two meals. We really enjoyed our lunch - Thank you, Valley View restaurant!

Stopped here for lunch while visiting the garden centre on a bank holiday and it was terrible. Everything was so expensive- we spent £30 on two coffees, a jacket potato and disgusting “nacho’s” that were just cheap tortilla chips covered with cheddar cheese. I even found a piece of metal wire in my jacket potato which I luckily didn’t swallow. I alerted a member of staff about it to ensure no one else had the same and she did apologise. All cake slices are £4.99 and even the staff member serving raised their eyebrows looking shocked when their colleague told them prices had gone up. We ordered one and it was very average- not worth it. It was a bank holiday so it was understandably busy but staff were definitely overwhelmed with a massive queue and only one poor lady waiting and clearing tables. She coped well but I felt sorry for her. Only good thing is that it’s dog friendly. Overall, an awful lunch. If you want a garden centre with a nice cafe I’d recommend driving an extra 10 minutes out to Chacewater instead.

Now i am so gutted to have to write this review of a local place but i like to give my honest feedback to you all, we visited today and ordered a ham and cheese ploughman's and ham egg and chips, with a pot of tea and a bottle of coca cola, the total came to £29 which we thought was quite a lot of money. The food came the ploughman's was large and the ham egg and chips you got 4 small pieces of ham with 1 egg and half a dozen chips which was abit poor. But the main part of why this is a poor review was because the cup for the tea had a load of chips in and was still wet and smelling like wet dog, then the food plates came out with the cutlery smelling the wet dog again, now we understand it is a busy place but when we sat down there was 3 or 4 people in the cafe, then 10 minutes later there was a big que. But we tried here awhile ago and only had 1 item smell like wet dog so we gave it one more chance but we said if it was like it again we WOULDN'T GO AGAIN. Unfortunately we will not be revisiting this cafe/reasturant again for the high cost for little amount and the cups, plates and cutlery smell. Unfortunately due to it being a quick stop i didnt manage to get images.

Thought we may as-well have lunch whilst at the garden centre. The coffee was nice but the food was something else... £9.95 for a cheap fishcake that had obviously been fried over and over as it was brown in colour. Chips + peas had been sat out for ages as they were crusty. The Soup was tasty but so thick! Could've been watered down and put in a bigger bowl as the portion was TINY! The roll was 1/3 size of a normal one and so hard I could hardly bite into it!😬 Service was very slow but the girls were pleasant enough…nothing special, seemed to whisper upon themselves a lot 👀 definitely need to work on the queuing system/have more people serving!

Oh dear! Coming to this cafe used to be a treat when visiting Carnon Downs Garden Centre but (like the garden centre itself) the place is now worthy of a miss. The restaurant is large and bright with lovely views. We visited early lunchtime on a Saturday and the place was far short of busy. We arrived hungry and that probably didn't enhance our opinion of the speed of service. Despite the apparently high staffing level, the service was glacial. We queued for so long at the counter that we decided to just go for a hot drink and share a "large cheesy tortilla chips". Tea...ok, hot chocolate...weak and watery. The tortilla sharing platter, at nearly £8, when it finally arrived was frankly pathetic. I have owned and operated an eatery like this and I would have been embarrassed to serve it. On a large plate was a meagre scattering of tortilla chips. If we felt cheated by that, the sparse dribble of melted cheese on top clinched it - abysmal! This was served with tiny dips of bland salsa and (we think) soured cream. There are no condiments or sauces or sugar or serviettes on the tables which had been shown a damp cloth. Half the table and two of the four chairs were still dirty. Eating is never cheap at these sort of places but prices appeared extortionate even by garden centre standards. Looking at others food, portion sizes were small and were served with a side-order of apathy. Not sure if this place is franchised or owned by the centre, but the garden centre itself also seems to have gone downhill since our last visit so maybe Valley View is following suit. We heard another customer say that it had changed hands. A shame, but we will probably not visit again unless it improves.

First time & the last time that any of us will order any food there. As it was my mums birthday ( 81 ) I didn't kick up a fuss as it would have upset her. The staff looked fed up & it was obvious they couldn't cope with the size of the cafe. Suggestion maybe to reduce the menu size as trying to cater for all the options but be a challenge for the kitchen staff: quality over quantity

Just been in for my favourite egg and bacon roll, all seemed ok until the order went in for the bap and I heard the guy in the kitchen say "it's too early" though they were open and he was probably joking it was a negative comment from the customers point of view. As I waited I couldn't see any of the usual staff so that was a bit unnerving and then the bap arrived. Firstly the bap has changed its now dry and not so fresh and sweet as usual, the bacon besides been dry and overly done ( i thought it was too early so how did that happen?) has changed from the usual thicker sliced smokey bacon and even the fried egg was broken and overly cooked, if they can't serve a proper fried egg then there's really no hope. I left the egg and bacon bap, and asking around found its under new management and all the old staff have left.

I have been a regular visitor for a few years to this restaurant, just for cake and coffee (cake is ALWAYS excellent). I cannot turn a blind eye anymore however to the poor decor and hygiene. The carpet looks as though it has NEVER been cleaned EVER... yuck. God knows what is living in it!! The tables are slatted, much more suited to outside on a patio, and the food that gets stuck in the gaps is disgusting. As I have visited frequently, the variety of plants can be good, I have noticed that even the skirting board in the restaurant is hanging off and had been just laying on the carpet for months. IS THERE NO HANDYMAN?? Don’t get me started about the toilets.... they are like out of the 70s and really need to be refurbished ASAP. Whoever owns it needs an enormous kick up the backside, and needs to visit the MUCH MUCH better restaurants in the area. WHAT A WASTE OF A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY. It is not good enough

Which there are no signs of either just 9.30-2.30 food served. Felt completely ripped off after stopping off here for coffee and slice of cake. Charge £3 for small slice of cake, unbelievable. 2 coffees and 2 slices of cake came to £11.50 ..... really????? No wonder the the place was practically empty. I will never set foot in the place again.

Paninii was £6.75 for what was no more than a small finger roll toasted cheese not melted and tasteless. Lemon meringue pie - no flavour. Basic liver and mash. Abrupt women behind till, man was polite though. So sad as it used to be so good.

Expensive poor quality food. Scampi chips and peas just under £9 scampi tasted like cardboard chips had no taste peas were harder than bullets. Don't bother with the cottage pie a puddle of gravy with no taste potato topping if that is what is was had the frozen taste as did the inexpensive vegetables. 2 scampi 1 cottage pie 1 tea 1 weak black coffee £31 what a rip off. Very small portions of cheap food. Food was served very quick I now know why. Would not recommend such a shame as the location is good.

Carnon Downs Garden Centre is a fascinating place to go. As this is a review of the Restaurant I'll start with that. Great variety of food. Tempting cakes and mid morning/afternoon snacks but also a delicious menu for lunchtime mains meals. Good value for money and all in a restaurant with 180degree views out over a Cornish Valley. If you like birds then watch out for Buzzards circling in the valley. For gardening fans there's a large selection of plants, garden tools and statuary plus all the different plant treatments you may need. Back in the main building there's a large book/card and gift selection on sale plus two clothing outlets and a fascinating, major pet area. One tip - give yourself plenty of time!

I visited mid morning during the week. As the cafe was quiet, service was pleasant and food quickly served. The downside is the poor quality of food. I ordered a bacon bap and coffee. The bap was cheap white bread with no taste. There were 2 slices of back bacon which were okay but nothing special. The bill came to £6.15. The restaurant is a canteen style hall, but has seen better days. The carpet is dirty, cutlery very old and worn and the toilets need to be fixed.

This Garden Centre has a large restaurant where you can select from a wide range of meals/snacks or breakfast. It is all quite quick to be delivered to your table after ordering at the counter. Lovely view across the Carnon Valley. Can get a little crowded and noisy at times but if you pick the less busy times its very pleasant.

Although the journey took a long time the house was easy to find when we got close and immaculate inside and out. A great house in a good location close to the Gardens of helligen and Mevagissey. I would totally recommend this house.

I've got kids and often popped in here when shopping for the garden or fish (Maidenhead Aquatics) and it's always been ok - it's not fine dining, but there's a good selection of cakes for the morning coffee crowd, breakfast menu or lunch (usually a good choice). There are better places for Sunday roast, but if on a gardening-related shop, it's an easy stop. As with many garden centre's the café closes earlier. Sometimes, it's a little on the cold side if the doors are open.

I went to the restaurant for a full English with my two children and my friends two children. My son who is only two and is teething cried a little bit. The lady from the restaurant came over and said can you try keep your children quiet please as we have elderly customers! I said I will try my best but they are children. I then went for some pudding for the children and my friend and my son started to cry again so I took him away into the shop for 5 mins and he was fine again. So we sat down with my friend again and he started to cry as he was tired. The lady came over again and said that we would have to leave as we were making too much noise and people were complaining. We couldn't believe it and my friend and I hadn't even eaten our cake. I went up to the till and told the lady that we were leaving and she said" good I'm glad". I asked her and the staff "have you never dealt with children before?" "do you not realise that they cry? " and that it's hard being a mother and they all just looked at me. It has shattered my confidence in taking my children to a restaurant and its hard enough being a mum but to have society against me too! I thought it was meant to be a child friendly place but it looks like children are too noisy and obviously they favour their elderly customers more. I will never be going to this restaurant again.

Well , where to begin, I have been using Carnon Downs Garden centre for over thirty years and have spent more money there than I dare mention, in case my wife reads this, We thought we would have our once a week breakfast somewhere different this week and kill two birds with one stone. a little heavy garden shopping for me and a coffee and breakfast for us both. so we waited to be served for about ten minutes while they were trying to sort out a toasted bap over charge which caused the cashier much bother for some unknown reason, just a simple refund, but told her waitress if they want a refund they have to come up and get it. We are finally served One coffee and two Full English Breakfast I didn't want a drink. went and sat down and waited for the delight of a Full English Breakfast to be delivered . when the food arrive I was a little disappointed a one small rasher of bacon one sausage, overcooked beans and a greasy egg on top an half toasted floured bap and to top it all was a whole deep fried tomato spilling oil everywhere I would have complained there and then but the waitress was still trying to sort out the over charged toasted bap from the previous customer Now for two decent Breakfast and coffee £14.73 would be most acceptable but not for what we were served .needless to say we did not do any shopping there as we felt ripped off, which is such a shame because I buy A great deal from there. it as though there is a lack of customer care and standards.

I took my Mum here today, to look around the garden centre, and to have some lunch. I have to say, I was a bit apprehensive about eating here after reading some of the reviews about it, but I needn't have worried. We had a really nice meal. Its a lovely big area with lovely views, and plenty of different sized tables for small and large groups. The tables were clean, and while we were there, a member of staff was constantly clearing and cleaning them as people left. We didn't wait long, and were served by a pleasant young lady, although It was fairly busy in the seating area, but being a weekday, was not as full or as busy as Im sure it must get at weekends. We sat down with our drinks, and about 15 mins later our food was bought over to us. It was freshly cooked and served, was piping hot, and tasted very nice. The menu is fairly extensive, with plenty of choice, from snacks to some larger meals. In my opinion, the pricing did seem a little odd on some items, with some of the smaller lunches like paninis and jacket potatoes costing only a couple of pounds or so less than the larger meals like scampi chips and peas, but that's only my opinion. I have to say though, that our meal was fairly good value for money, and we were very pleased with the quality of it.Although we didn't try them, the cakes looked lovely. All in all, its a really nice place, and we had a lovely lunch. Really well worth a visit, we will be back!

Walked around the garden centre which was perfectly ok and then decided to get coffee and something to eat. I asked at the information desk where the cafe was located . Without looking up the 'assistant' pointed and said "Over there" . Great start.Walked over to the large cafe that had about 4 customers in it. There was an elderly lady emptying a bin in a room at the end of the servery. When she had finishe she strolled over and just stood there. J asked if she could have a cream tea. The woman replied " well if there's and scones in the cabinet"That was it. Out we went.Shoddy service from the Information desk, the woman in the cafe hadnt washed her hands after touching a bin and then totally unprofessional service. Not just rude but potentially hazardous to health.Wont bother again.

Haven't been here for a while. When walking around the garden centre itself there is no point in smiling or saying good morning to the owners. They simply blank you and you are made to feel they just want your money and would like you to leave.this used to be a real garden experience it was all about the plants but now it's more like everything but the plants. Very expensive. Anyway I went to the cafe. Ordered a coffee and scone. The scone was like a brick so dry it stuck to the roof of my mouth. Scones are the easiest thing in the world to bake how can you get it so wrong. I watched a man coming out of the kitchen with food bellowing a table number and a face like a slapped bottom on him. So miserable. He obviously does not like his job. The young man serving coffees was very jolly and polite the older woman with grey hair a real misery. You are made to feel this establishment as a whole is all about getting you in. Get your money and get rid of you as quickly as possible. What a shame this could be a real gem!! And for goodness sake somebody show the chef how to make scones it's not rocket science

For £6.75 for a dry no condiments chicken burger (with no chips and instead hash browns as they didn't have chips). Appalling. There are 4 staff in the kitchen across the counter, serving and kitchen. Plenty to perform the basic task. I would have expected at least mayo in the chicken burger. Whilst they also didn't have chips, they also didn't have sausages. Considering that half their menu has either sausages (breakfast) or chips it's a bit of a sad attempt. At best this was worth £3. No way was it worth £6.75.

Oh dear... Not one to write reviews but honestly this cafe needs to sharpen up their act! Looonnng wait for a drink with a woman shouting "we've got no bacon left!" To a little old man waiting for his all day breakfast. The people serving (two women) kept wandering in and out of the kitchen and seemed surprised to receive an order. All the tables were dirty and not cleared. There were no teaspoons. Shame because it could be a good little cafe for pensioners and young families -especially with the £1 unlimited tea/coffee and soup and cheap food for kids.
