Before I write this I just want to say that I never complain in restaurants, and have never written a bad review. But my meal was bad. And the service poor. I ordered nachos for £8 and what I received was a bowl of classic Doritos with shop bought sauce, and not very nice cheese. I politely asked to have something else, even just chips, instead as I could not eat it and felt very disappointed with what it was. I was not expecting the response. The man at the desk (assuming he is the owner) told me nobody had complained before so I could not have anything else unless I paid for it. He argued with me and made me feel very small, and treated me terribly. So terribly I began to cry for the first time ever in a restaurant because of his terrible customer service. He did not seem to care that he had upset me, and talked to me in a rude manner. I do not recommend, and would advise to avoid. Rude service, as I left upset I could hear him moan about me to another member of staff. Anywhere else would have refunded us, but not here.

Should have checked Trip Advisor and listened to my instincts when asked to pay before getting the meal.. always a no no. This could be a really good place, good location and the classic video games are fun. But I do baulk at paying £12 for a supermarket pizza and £5 for milkshake that doesn’t even compare to Nesquik. I know it’s been incredibly tough for those in tourism but no excuses for this. I just had to smile and leave - knowing I’d been turned over good and proper & chalk up to experience. Suggest you go one better & smile as you walk past this one.

We enjoyed a couple of coffees at this place while soaking up the mise en scene of Mousehole. The gentleman who greeted us was full of smiles and mirth and we were made to feel extremely welcome. Coffees were just what we needed, my frothy iced latte affair pleased and my partner remarked the Americano was darned fine. The outside seating was well spaced but I feel the chairs had seen a bit of a rough weather spell! Worth a nip into if you are lurking around Mousehole.

minutes ago on Google After a lovely visit to Mousehole we stopped here for a cream tea. My father ordered his cream tea and said I'll have 2 teas as you could choose tea or coffee with the scones. The miserable male owner bought out the cream teas with tea and another 2 teas saying that it was what my father ordered. We explained that we didn't need this much tea but he didn't care even though it was obvious he'd added too much tea onto the order on purpose. How many people does he do this to to make more money??? His customer service was awful and he even moaned after we complained about us asking for a glass of tap water for my son. What a n idiot. Wasn't worth the visit to this place and it ruined what set out as a lovely day. The scones were not very nice and my mum found a hair in her clotted cream. Would not recommend this place to eat. He is a rude Man who cons you out of an extra fiver unnecessarily!. Please don't waste your hard earned money in this place when there are lots of other lovely places to eat.

This is a fantastic little cafe selling local produce, home prepared pizzas and delicious meals. I took the family (and dog) here for lunch, we were greeted by a friendly owner and acquainted with (I’m guessing) his eloquent, polite and friendly son. Would very much recommend this haven of a cafe, and would love to stay here too if the cafe is anything to go by. A*

After wandering around the harbour area we stopped by for a coffee but couldn’t resist a Cream Tea. We shared two warm scones with jam and cream (jam first or it’s a crime as the menu states!) with a pot of tea and a flat white coffee. All was good, we received a warm welcome and felt it was good value for what we had plus they are dog friendly too!

We stopped at Mousehole after a visit to St Michaels mount, it was a little after lunch and we were hungry, looked at other places to have a light lunch but all the ones we liked the look of Were busy, we noticed this cafe up a side street and decided to take a chance as from the outside it did not look like much however having found some nice and good value places in our travels that also did not look great from the outside we went in. We had two wrap and one sandwich both with wedges however chips arrived but they were the best part of the meal, coffee, Apple juice and my husband and son had a bottle of beer. This cost £50 ! The food was mediocre and not worth what we paid for. And yes if it had been better I would not be writing a poor review. We’d pay this gladly if the quality was better. The coffee was a latte out of a packet (yes I am a snob as far as coffee is concerned) The four of us were very disappointed and I would not recommend this if you stop at Mousehole. Sorry but this is by far the worst meal we’ve had this week.

Not happy with my experience here and felt very unwelcomed☹️ I desperately needed the loo and so popped in to buy a takeaway coffee so that I could use the facilities here. I have 2 dogs and since the place was dog friendly, I just asked politely if the member of staff could hold them for 2 minutes. They weren’t busy (maybe 1 or 2 tables which had been seen to outside) so I really didn’t see the issue. My gosh, they made me feel bad for even asking.

It was raining when we arrived in Mousehole and this is the first place we saw. Wish we had gone further down into the village now. Anyway, we both fancied fish and chips. In the meantime, we had coffee which wasn't too bad. The fish and chips were served - and looked at our food in horror - it was at this point I was wishing we were more like people from overseas as they are better at complaining than us Brits. The fish batter was a very dark brown lol, placed on top of the chips. We picked off the batter and ate the minuscule portion of fish inside. It was obviously bought in frozen from Suppliers and not fresh from the harbour, which is what we expected. No peas or a salad garnish either. Don't know who is cooking but it's obviously not their calling. If ever we're in Mousehole again, we shall give this place a wide berth - whether it's raining or not.

We stopped at this cafe as it looked lovely...... well that was as far as the niceties go. I order 3 sandwiches and then asked if they could make a jam sandwich for my daughter to be told no we only do what’s on the menu. Ok I said but, could you do a small sandwich for her? Again he said no and expected me to pay £7 for a cheese sandwich which my daughter wouldn’t of eaten. I chose our drinks out of the fridge which was broken and the drinks were warm. On payment I felt really uncomfortable as I didn’t want to stay and the man who serve me was really rude. I told him we wouldn’t be staying and he said “oh well I’ll cancel the food then shall I and put your drinks away shall I!!!!” What a disappointment as it looked so nice but never again.

Stopped here yesterday with my wife and two daughters for a cream tea as the cafe looked so nice. However we were very disappointed at the poor quality (both of food and service) for the price we paid. Don't expect to be served freshly made scones - I suspect the ones we had were shop bought and not all that nice. I don't mind what I pay for when eating out but expect the quality to be reflected in the price. In addition to this, I asked for tap water for my daughters only to be told they don't serve tap water. I'm pretty sure that it is law that licensed cafes have to serve tap water if requested, but irrelevant of that, I have never been refused tap water anywhere until yesterday. Overall, not a great place and could be so much better.

Set in a lovely location, we decided to have cream teas for the family of seven (4 Adults & 3 children). The proprietor was the most miserable man I have ever come across in a cafe/restaurant. The food was served with no finesse and the prices were extortionate. Most disappointed in the way we were treat - not just us, we noticed the same lack of attention to all the customers. This place could have been so much more enjoyable and memorable if the service had been better. Would not recommend ANYONE to go there unless the proprietor changes his attitude.

Visited as a family of four. After reading the menu I could see it wasn't going to be amazing but thought we'd give them a chance. I had the falafel salad it was 'lafelble' all you could taste was a cheap thousand island dressing... & that's all I could taste for days after. I thought I was safe ordering salad. How do get a salad wrong?! My husband had the crab. His face whilst eating it looked like he would have had a better experience if he'd gotten crabs! It was full of shell. Our sons had the pizza - something that was so hard it could have been mistaken for the plate it was on. Needless to say we left leaving most of the food. Shame ☹️

With 3 young boys in tow and looking to keep them fueled for a busy afternoon this restaurant seemed a great choice. Pizza and sandwiches were duly ordered and a jug of tap water requested for the table. "We dont have jugs. We have bottled water if you prefer". Not even the choice of a glass, when requested, just "we have bottled water if you prefer" repeated at us. Well apart from licensed premises being required to serve free water, the attitude and lack of any customer service made it an easy decision to leave. We could tolerate the kids being a bit hungry for 10 minutes but we would not tolerate this. We are now sitting in the most excellent Rock Pool cafe with mackerel pate, a full cheese platter and tasty cream teas. For nothing else "thank you Tremayne for making sure we had a lovely lunch somewhere else!!"

We visited this cafe last week during a brief visit to Mousehole - unfortunately we made the mistake of stopping at the first cafe we encountered on our way from the car park to the centre of the village. We weren't overly surprised to be charged over £20 for two sandwiches & two drinks - unfortunately it seems that over-inflated London prices aren't uncommon these days in the more popular Cornwall tourist spots. What did surprise me was the owner's attitude when said sandwiches were served to us 10 minutes or so after we ordered. I had asked for the 'two cheese & spring onion sandwich', and when it arrived unfortunately it was smothered in mayonnaise, which I can't eat. I returned the sandwich inside to the reception area, where I'd placed our order directly from reading the blackboard behind the desk (which made no mention of mayonnaise being the major ingredient in this sandwich), and politely explained to the owner why I couldn't consume it. He couldn't have been ruder if he tried, asking me what I expected him to do as it had already been made & he wasn't prepared to refund me, or offer any alternative. I explained that if the menu had indicated that the sandwich had contained mayonnaise, I would not have purchased it in the first place - at which point he dug around under the desk & produced another menu which he clearly knew I had not had sight of upon placing the order, & told me that it did list mayonnaise as one of the ingredients in the menu, had I cared to read it properly. This man clearly has no interest in customer service, or of creating a good name for his cafe in order to attract return business or word-of-mouth recommendations. As a result of this man's appalling attitude, I left the restaurant hungry, in tears & quite distressed - the most expensive culinary mistake of my life!Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Arrived in Mousehole during a downpour of rain. Thought it was a good idea to take an early lunch and took refuge in what seemed from the outside to be a pretty looking cafe/restaurant. Inside was busy but there were tables, just needed to group together a few more chairs for me, my husband and two children to sit together. I asked if this was possible and the owner said it would be fine. He then watched on as we struggled passed other customers to gather three more chairs. My husband was prepared to leave at this point but I thought due to the rain it was worth the effort. We ordered lunch at the counter and then a couple of glasses of tap water for the kids. I was charged 50p per glass for the tap water. When I asked whether this was legal, he said it was and the fact that he sold 400 glasses of tap water due to the heat wave he would be a fool not to....after all it is a family run business he remarked. On service of the tap water, my husband asked how he could justify doing this...he said it was the service of the water to the table and also for payment for use of the glass!!! He also mentioned the fact that he could profit from this too. Gobsmacked...he is clearly shortsighted. But for this we would have been return customers that week and we would have also tipped far more than the £1 charged for tap water. He clearly is of the sentiment that tourists in Mousehole are passing trade and he should profiteer from the heat and peoples and childrens subsequent suffering! It looks as if this is not a one off and also experienced no toilet roll (again we questioned whether he would have charged for that too!!).

As regular visitors to Mousehole we thought we would try somewhere new for lunch. Well this was a mistake. Being fooled by the quaint decor and pleasant garden, we went in and were shocked at the prices of the food, but decided to go ahead. We ordered a 9" pepperoni pizza to share at just under £10 and a portion of potato wedges coming in at a ridiculous £5.75. Well to say the least I have had many better frozen supermarket pizzas. Bland, tasteless and doughy with approx 3 pieces of pepperoni. Average oily wedges. Certainly not worth the money and definitely will not be coming back. As previous reviewer said - wish we had looked at reviews! To top it all off, we were refused a jug of tap water with our lemonades and charged for one glass. There was also no toilet roll in either male or female toilets - maybe they charge for that too? A big shame.

I visited Moushole on a tour of the south coast, the town was lovely so myself and my friends decided to stop and have lunch. From the outside the restaurant looks very quaint which is what drew us in. Upon arrival we noticed there was only one table that would seat 6, to conserve room it had been pushed up against the wall. We pulled this out and sat down, promptly after a window table became available with a sea view so we moved. During this time we still hadn't ordered any food, once we sat down I assumed it was the owner who came over to us; was quite rude and told us to not move the tables around and to put them back the way we found them. We are all in our early 30's so was quite taken back after being treated like children...after all there were six of us did he not want our business? We should have left at that point... but we stayed and ordered food, I had soup which I'm sure came from a can and some stale bread, we won't be returning! The only plus I can say is that I enjoyed looking at the art on all the walls in the Cafe.

I have never written a review before, but I have signed up purposely to comment on this place. My family and I arrived here after spending a lovely afternoon exploring Mousehole and the neighbouring sea towns.Once we had decided what we would like to eat, we ordered and were straight away very taken aback by the prices; a crab sandwich alone coming in at just under £10.00 a head.As we do not go out as a family very often and it was a lovely day out (so far) we shrugged off the prices (coming to £58.00 with 4 drinks and a couple sides) and suggested that it must be very special with excellent quality ingredients.Alas, the meals turned up, featuring a couple spoonfuls of crab meat in BONE DRY bread with cheap spread pasted inside, complete with a pitiful salad with a sachet of cheap mayo.No condiments other than this were provided. The sides were 2 tiny pots of greasy, slimy almost burnt chips, about 12 chips in each.We all gave each other glances as we started our meals, I could already see the bread was desperately dry and I wouldn't be able to eat it.Long story short, I asked the owner if he could put the crab in another roll that wasn't stale, and I was greeted with a very aggressive, hostile response. Telling me I was wrong and nothing was stale, even though he never even tried it. Naturally my family interjected as I sat there red in the face, heart thumping away still slightly shocked at how rude he was, he then began to verbally attack my family, raising his voice stating we were going to be impossible to please. In the end, we didn't eat our meals and I was desperate to leave, he gave us £10 off for bread he refused to admit was stale. I used to work in a bakery and I can tell you we wouldn't even sell that stuff as bread crumb. He stated no one had ever had anything bad to say about the food before, although coming on this website, it is clear this is a lie.We left, still bewildered at his hostility and shockingly dire standard for even a simple meal....

The noise was not acceptable. We sat for a few minutes and nobody came to take our order. Eventually we left and found somewhere else to eat. Please believe me, I hate to write a poor review but in this instance I feel I have to as I was so disgusted with the service and quality! We spent a lovely morning in Mousehole last week and decided to stay on for lunch before moving on - big mistake. We looked at a number of cafes and decided that Tremayne looked lovely from outside but looks can be deceiving. On the boards outside they advertised pizzas so our little boy got very excited at the prospect of having one for lunch but when I tried to order I was told they had none left but they'd have a delivery the next day (did they expect us to wait!!!??). We then chose sandwiches and two drinks, my sandwich was supposed to be chicken, bacon and sweet corn but when it arrived it was a microwaved wrap containing chicken, bacon and some sort of white sauce. The whole thing was very bland and miserable. We paid just over £30 for the privilege of being served by a very unhappy owner and his wife who made no attempt to interact with us, even though we were the only people inside, we had bad food and paid a fortune for it. We were also charged approximately £8.00 for a cheese sandwich for a 3 year old! All I can say is this place could be a really lovely place to eat and drink if the quality of food improved and the owners perhaps took an interest in their customers and perhaps took a course in customer service. We will be taking holidays in this beautiful and wonderful area again and again but sadly won't be visiting the Tremayne again. If the owners read this I'm very sorry if I offend you but please use the plenty of poor reviews you have received as constructive and a basis to make changes.

Visited here during April 2013 and after the Easter rush. We were made welcome by the young girl on the till. Also we were allowed to bring our small dog in (many places don’t!). There are bowls of water provided for thirsty pooches. The cafe is pretty inside in a typical English tea room style. There are an assortment of pretty gifts and trinkets on sale. We both had a cream tea which was well up to Cornish standards. Two good scones each, ample strawberry jam and clotted cream. The price was what we have paid elsewhere and not expensive. The tea cups and plates were perfectly clean and chip free. I was surprised to see so many previously negative comments about this cafe in relation to cleanliness. I can only assume that the owners have taken note of the Tripadvisor comments and improved their standards. We enjoyed our visit and will revisit next time we are in Mousehole.

We made a very big mistake...The Tremayne has a nice outdoor area which attracted us on a beautiful sunny day. We decided just to have a pasty and some soup. The (Heinz?) £3.95 Minestrone soup was served in pathetically small portions with inedible microwaved bread. We complained and more bread, cut into thin strips, was served. It was still totally unacceptable. The £5.95 pasty was served warm and soggy after being microwaved. The accompanying salad was miniscule and wilted. It must have been clear to the owner that we were very disappointed with the food but he didn't even ask. Avoid.....(Later we had a very nice pasty (£3.20) from Pam's pantry - pity we didn't go there first)

Don't be fooled by the pleasant look of this place! Have visited Mousehole countless times as we live in a nearby seaside village. There are lots of good places to eat in Mousehole but the TREMAYNE IS'NT ONE OF THEM! Most places were very busy as it was luchtime in August, but the Tremayne had plenty of tables free, this should have sounded warning bells! The food is very average and overpriced, the place was not as clean as I would have expected ( china cups & teaspoons looked like they could have used really good wash in hot soapy water.) The cream tea was the worst I've ever had and bear in mind I'm a local, so I think I should know what a good Cornish cream tea is like.Very poor quality scones (one was burnt on the base), average type of jam, cream, and tea but charged top price! Loos - very poor- no lavatory paper, watered down liquid soap and no paper towels/towel to dry your hands on! The whole thing was a totally disappointing.

Lovely looking building and garden with plenty of character however very dissapointed with pricing, my wife and I had a glass of very expensive average quality wine and left as the quality of the food did not appear to match the prices stated.

Arrived at Tremayne at around 1.30pm and were told that we'd have to wait for '10 minutes' for our order to be taken as it was 'very busy' - considering it was lunch time we thought ok fair enough and sat down. We waited patiently for around 15 minutes when we were told our order would be taken shortly, we waited and waited and eventually after half an hour a lady came over to take our order. What made this all the more frustrating was that the whole time she was serving the other 3 tables in the restaurant (not a hugh number considering it was lunchtime but perhaps this should have been a sign!), taking over bills, taking payments etc. - we clearly weren't important enough to warrant serving until she was ready. I still don't really understand why we weren't at least offered a drink as goodness knows how long they'd have made us wait for the actual food! While waiting we had plenty of time to peruse the very limited looking and rather expensive menu. When our order was eventually taken my Husband asked for a Latte and I asked for a House Rose (£5.20 per glass) and a glass of tap water - I was immediately told the tap water would be 50 pence and asked 'do you still want it?'. As I was thirsty after waiting so long to be served I had no choice but to say yes but was shocked as have never ever been asked to PAY FOR TAP WATER but baring in mind the last sentence on the menu was 'Service not included!' I think it sums up the fact that this place clearly uses every opportunity to make money from it's customers, I wouldn't be surprised if they charged customers for using the toilet. Fair enough mention that service isn't included but is there any need to include the exclamation mark?I then attempted to order a Cornish Pasty and was told they had sold out so we decided enough was enough - not only had been been left waiting to even order for half an hour, they were trying to charge us for tap water, the other menu options were not inspiring but expensive and we would have had to wait even longer for our actual food, we cut our loses and left and enjoyed one of Jessie's Dairy's Pasty's on the harbour. We wasted half an hour of our lives in Tremayne - please don't do the same! Having read some of Tremayne's reviews on their accommodation, it was interesting to note the owners comment on one of the negative reviews, saying it must have been a competitor - an odd response to a customers comment and which clearly sums up their attitude towards them.

Lied to my wife regarding other options and insisted the other option was to return to Penzance. Then produced some awful scones and charged a full price for them.

Stopped at this pleasant looking cafe to sit outside and have a sandwich. Ordered crab baguettes £8.95 each. Terrible chewy bread, not a crusty baguette, with the tiniest smear of crab inside. Complained to the waiter who did nothing. The biggest rip off ever.

Says it was open till 8pm went to get food at 7pm and it wasn't even open looked like it hadn't even been open this evening. This is terrible if you say you are open then open or change the opening times.

Oh dear... Not one to write reviews but honestly this cafe needs to sharpen up their act! Looonnng wait for a drink with a woman shouting "we've got no bacon left!" To a little old man waiting for his all day breakfast. The people serving (two women) kept wandering in and out of the kitchen and seemed surprised to receive an order. All the tables were dirty and not cleared. There were no teaspoons. Shame because it could be a good little cafe for pensioners and young families -especially with the £1 unlimited tea/coffee and soup and cheap food for kids.

For £6.75 for a dry no condiments chicken burger (with no chips and instead hash browns as they didn't have chips). Appalling. There are 4 staff in the kitchen across the counter, serving and kitchen. Plenty to perform the basic task. I would have expected at least mayo in the chicken burger. Whilst they also didn't have chips, they also didn't have sausages. Considering that half their menu has either sausages (breakfast) or chips it's a bit of a sad attempt. At best this was worth £3. No way was it worth £6.75.

We are for lunch at 1:15. Wanted something simple so we ordered Ham Egg and chips x 2. Served by very polite staff. When our meal arrived we were sadly disappointed. Chips were freshly cooked. But, the ham was cut so thin you could see the plate through it. One slice, I don’t think that they could buy cheaper. The eggs looked like they had been leftover from breakfast and wormed up under the grill. Not a good experience at all. What a shame could and should have been a simple enjoyable lunch, it wasn’t. Lesson learned.
