Called in for afternoon tea even though we should have booked. Manager happy to have two afternoon teas made up for three people, and server brought extra plates. Choice of sandwiches, quiche and sausage rolls, fruit and cheese scones with cream and homemade jam and a selection of cakes. Still brought home what we couldn't eat. There was enough tea in the pot for two cups each.

We had sandwiches, eggs benedict and cakes. The sandwiches were served in thick, fresh white bread and plenty of filling plus a generous pile of crisps and salad. The eggs benedict was cooked perfectly. All the food, including the cakes were delicious and the service was excellent. When they saw we were sharing dishes, they brought an extra plate without us having to ask. It wasn't cheap but given the quality it was good value.

We initially called to visit Trenchers, but apparently it’s now closed on a Monday and Tuesday. However, we weren’t disappointed in any way with our lunch at Valerie’s! Hubby opted for toasted ciabatta with a side of chips and I went for corned beef pie and chips, which was extremely tasty! Followed by a scrumptious fruit scone and clotted cream which was also delicious. Service was very good too

Lovely lunch on a rainy Whitley Bay visit. I had the quiche and it was gorgeous, they even did something off the breakfast menu for my nan even though that menu had finished. Staff are lovely and the whole place is clean and well kept. The cakes are to die for, we would absolutely recommend Valerie’s.

We’ve been here a few times and it’s been very hit and miss. Today was awful. They were busy but the quality was horrendous. The cappuccinos were far too hot so tasted burnt and there was no foam, just flat textureless coffee. The scones were supposed to be warmed but they were cold in places and hot in others. They lacked flavour and were very chewy. Also there was no loose leaf tea offered. It is supposed to be a tea room and yet you get a cheap teabag when you order tea! Vey disappointed and doubtful we will visit again.

First time here I have passed it many times so decided to give it a try. I had a hot chocolate,large cookie.my husband had a latte and a scone. They were nice. Plenty of cakes to choose from. Some cakes more expensive than others. Staff were ok only one serving and to many hanging about. You get a table and go up to the counter and order food and pay for it then someone brings it out

Always a lovely welcome here, as a regular tend to have the same things but never disappointed. Family friendly and Deborah always remembers our names.

Dropped in on a windy, wet day for a revitalising cup of coffee. We were warmly greeted and the service was fast and appropriate. The menu appeared extensive but we did not sample it!

I read reviews before we went which all complained about not much filling in the sandwiches. Well, they’ve put that right, believe me. I had the goat’s cheese ciabatta and it was delicious. My vegan friend was also well catered for. We placed our order and paid at the counter and within minutes our lunch was at our table. I am genuinely baffled by the poor reviews; this was my first visit and it won’t be the last.

Eggs Benedict was lukewarm at best, Full English Breakfast, bacon was so overcooked could have used it for shoe leather, beans were lukewarm and the sausage I was going to take home for the dog was so cremated I couldn’t insult him. It’s a while since my wife and I have visited, it will be a very very long time before we return if ever.

I wanted a Cake and a drink take-a-away. The que didn’t seem to be moving, but unfortunately i mistook that for dealing with a single big order. Nope, slow and cathartic are the only order that this place are interested in. 1 person out of the 3 hovering behind the till seemingly tasked with customer satisfaction . Then the till broke down, due to a card problem, by this time in a line of 4 i had waited 20mins to get nowhere. Another 20mins passed and none of the hidden staff who could have assisted the speed up a bit, knew how to unblock the problem. This is the governments and traders planed future for the retail guest, as i asked if i could pay by cash. A completely shocked look crossed the face of all 4 of them.”No the till is completely ‘naggered’ we can’t possibly speed up our British rail level of non service and start to take cash!” At which the girl collapsed at the thought of customer service and her last words being “don't you swear at me and use words like providing customer service, even if thats what i am here for” (well maybe she didn’t) I have no idea what the cakes might have tasted like, perhaps this shop is replicating North Korea’s fake shops, and that there isn’t anything actually for sale? I thought that service like this was a myth from the days of a two Ronnies comedy sketch. But no its alive, well and thriving in Whitley Bay.

This is a great spot for a coffee and cake, after a good walk along Whitley Bay ! Visited around the Bank Holiday. The place seemed very popular. The staff and service super - I would definitely recommend & return in the future!

Absolutely terrible service today at Valerie’s. Ordered a takeaway coffee and waited 15 minutes without any progress after queuing for 10. Advised the team I would have to leave I was in a hurry and had to leave without either the coffee or a refund. I noticed other customers were collecting their own trays of drinks that had been sat cooking on the counter. This is the second bad experience I have had there, after seeing a member at f staff lift a bin onto the counter to change the lining and not clean the surface afterwards. Lovely cake but never again.

No better way to end your holiday than a visit to this establishment. Bonus their cups and plates are made in the home of the potteries which shows only the best will do. The sandwiches had plenty of filling and tasted delicious. The quiche had plenty of ham. The hardest decision is always which cake to choose. Staff were friendly.
