Not surprised this place is empty as the woman behind the counter had a bad attitude. I popped my bike under the canopy outside as it was pouring down. She exclaims “mind you can’t leave your bike there !” I asked “where is the bikestore?’ “ we don’t have one” came the reply. Cafe place was empty, and of course I would have moved it had someone wanted the space. Orange woman has NO hospitality skills whatsoever…... not even a friendly greeting passed across the counter upon arrival!!! I’d arranged to meet 4 pals there. Coffee was diabolical. Won’t bother returning, no wonder it’s so quiet in there.

Extortionate prices, absolutely disgraceful to be charging the majority of elderly customers and parents with young children these prices. Please bring food with you if you are planning on using this park, a picnic would be so much better. The lady serving me aswel was so rude, treated me and my two year old as if we were an inconvenience to serve. Will not be returning. It is a shame as it’s a lovely building and has so much potential to be better. Please look at your prices and maybe invest in some staff training.

Shortly before Christmas. The food was good but the service was slow. We had to wait for a table, the place does have a nice atmosphere but it was so noisy we couldn’t talk to each other. One large party of rowdy people spoiled the visit. I would go back hopefully on a quieter day.

This was one of our Covid walks from North Shields Fish Quay when you had to sit outside and we have continued to go in normal times. Northumberland Park is excellent and so is the cafe. Fruit and Cheese scones are made FRESH DAILY and are delicious --- the fruit scones actually have plenty of fruit in them. All their food and coffees are reasonably priced plus they have a loyalty card which can be used in any North Tyneside Council cafes. The staff are also excellent and friendly bacon sandwiches etc are also freshly made. Our grand nephew and niece love going there following various trails around a well kept park which is down to the many volunteers that work there. There is also a good sized play park for children. Kingfishers and Water rails have also frequented the park over the years attracting many birders with massive camera lens. Sometimes when the weather is horrible they may close early if there aren't many people around.

Recently visited on a weekend away with my wife and I was appalled by the manner in which Brandon (could be a false name) spoke to us in. The young chap spoke with such disrespect and arrogance that it put a real dampener on my experience at this stunning venue. Katherine (my wife) and I, had a lovely lunch and the food was great but I must say the service makes it a 1 star alone! Stopped here while out for a walk. Great location and very reasonably priced (as it should be as it's owner by the council). Cheese scone was the best I have had for a good while but what let's it down is it doesn't appear to have a proper coffee machine providing barista made coffee. Filter coffee yes. Other coffees out of a machine where staff apply press a button yes. We'll worth a visit though.

Staff in the cafe is a joke. If you go there an hour before closing time better don't, they are in a rush to go home and they pretend they don't understand you and make you feel you should not be there as you giving them more dishes to wash and clean after you, also they laugh behind you back they seem to be more interested in chatting than serving people, i am sure the owner don't pay them to chat and treat customers like hell!!!! The park itslef is lovely always go there but you need proper staff in that cafe. Is a shame as is my second time attempting to have a coffee there never back again!!!

Does Mike Ashley manage this place? Send the staff home at the first sign of inclement weather? Leave potential customers standing outside, bemused at the closed doors. Surely the management must appreciate that people make arrangements to meet at the park cafe. Shelter and a nice cup of tea would be really welcome, especially when the weather has turned. How about keeping the place open for regular hours and perhaps more people will use it. Other than that, when it's open, the staff are friendly and helpful. Sack the board! 😉

Fantastic coffee and cakes with stunning vista's over the fabulous Northumberland Park. My only complaint is the cakes were served on polystyrene dishes and the coffee in disposable cups with plastic lids - we were eating in and it all seemed a completely unnecessary waste. Tynemouth is supposed to be a plastic free zone - so the PR tells us. As a council facility the Glasshouse must do better!

Took our dogs for a nice walk in Northumberland Park. About 10 degrees, fairly still but some rain. A few other people doing similar. Was looking forward to a coffee and cake overlooking the lake. Unfortunately - we arrived at 1.55pm only to find the shutters part closed and the cafe shut up. 2 staff inside cleaning up and generally speaking looking rather unfriendly. Managed to knock on door only to be told that it was raining and therefore they were closing up. What a load of rubbish. As I understand this is council owned, I pay my taxes, and it should have stayed open. We would have spent money and so would have others - but no - lazy council staff decided to close up and waste taxpayer money. I bet they all get paid in full! Very poor as the cafe itself looks like a nice resource. Shame!

Northumberland Park is an oasis in North Shields. If you fancy a cuppa and a piece of cake, then the Glasshouse is a welcoming spot to take a rest. If you just fancy a walk, then the grounds are beautiful - wild flowers in abundance and little duckkies on the pond. There's even a park for kids as well now with a zip wire. Something for everybody!

A lot of money has been spent on making Northumberland park a completely enjoyable experience especially for families. This cafe has added that extra dimension to be able to have drinks and snacks both inside and outside. Facing south on a sunny day with plenty of seats and tables available in a sheltered spot makes for a very pleasant experience. The staff were welcoming and prices very reasonable .Well worth a visit especially when half a mile away the coast is very busy.

We arrived at the Glasshouse on a sunny Sunday afternoon, wanting a cuppa and a snack. Having checked the website it said that closing was at 3.30pm but as it was only 2.30pm we thought that it would be fine. We sat inside, and were immediately disappointed that the lovely views out to the lake were covered as the wooden shutters were covering the windows. We had two cups of tea, served in a paper cup, not even a proper mug or cup (at £1.55 a go). The meat pasty my husband had was tasty enough and there was a microwave for us to heat it up if desired. What was supposed to be a nice relaxing afternoon was soon curtailed as the staff shut the doors and put the rest of the wooden shutters up. I asked what time they shut and was told 3pm. If we had known that, we would have gone to Tynemouth or Linskill for a better cuppa and nicer surroundings. There is a lot of competition round here for tea shops so sadly we won't be returning. Shame.

Another 'meh' Costa location which cements their reputation as the poorest of the big coffee chains in the UK (Nero has better coffee, Starbucks better spaces, and Pret better food - and let's not forget Greggs which is giving them all a run for their money across the board). That said the staff here are lovely. Game for a bit of banter and a laugh and clearly the reason why your cohort of regulars keep coming back. I hope you look after them as well as they look after your customers. This location could be vastly improved by getting the basics right. Why is the WiFi broken? Why is it so dark? Why are there flyers strewn across every surface? And why is a flat white served in a soup bowl?
