Excellent food, excellent service, our restaurant of choice when we go to Inverness

Found online when looking for haggis on the menu. Would never have found it otherwise. So glad l did!

Food was really good, a nice home cooked meal scenario. One star knocked off as had to call so many times. Please when busy get an answering phone. Came back a second and third time. Food and service is great. Friend however was not so keen on the hunters chicken. They were expecting chicken breast but got a casserole type chicken.

Amazing gem of a restaurant. Only been there once but I will definitely visit again!

Food was delicious, I never imagined a vegetarian haggis but it was delectable. The atmosphere was charming and the staff were incredibly polite and attentive.

The ribeye cooked medium was tough to chew. Hunter style chicken was good. No desserts. One glass of wine. The server that interacted with us the most never smiled. Like G Miller said in the review 1 month ago, the overall experience was not "wow". Instead, it was "meh" and for the pricing, we wanted "wow".

Really nice home cooked food. Very friendly staff, great portions and very well priced. Definitely worth a visit.

When we arrived in Inverness, we reserved a table here at short notice and were not disappointed. The ambience seemed a bit more upscale - some guests looked a bit irritated by our hiking clothes - but no matter. The food (haggis, burgers, game sausages) was really great. The price is also completely ok. Located right at the end of the Citts, on the River Ness. Highly recommended

Hidden gem! Delicious home made food, and all the staff were just so warm and welcoming. Don’t be deceived by the exterior, best traditional food we had in Inverness. Couldn’t recommend more! Get the haggis, neeps and tatties - the whisky sauce is divine.

Wir waren zum Mittagessen hier. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich. Vor- und Hauptspeise haben uns gut geschmeckt. Das Lokal war sauber. Insgesamt waren wir sehe zufrieden und würden wiederkommen.

It was well decorated, and the dishes were well presented and hot. The service was excellent. Great all round menu, but you don't walk away with that wow, that tasted brilliant feeling dont get me wrong it was nice food. It's average grub you would get anywhere. The toilets severely need a revamp tho.

Great small place to get some delicious food!

It was the best food I had in Inverness. It's a very small restaurant and you definitely need to book in advance.

Intimate and welcoming place, with very kind and attentive staff. We ordered a soup of the day, which we were satisfied with as it was tasty and creamy. Then we had a prawn, curry and rice dish, which we didn't like at all as the rice was overcooked and bland, and the sauce was way too much! Overall we were not happy.

Very good food and size, but……. Poor service and atmosphere, waitress didn”t ask for the quaility of the food, not a single word. When split the bill, we did it by our own, normal service by the waitress. Only eat there due to the good food.

We were served by a very friendly girl and the service was fast and super efficient. The place is nice and very quiet, making eating very comfortable.

Delicious food with excellent service. Perfect place to eat after walking through the streets of this beautiful city. Delicious salmon and delicious venison sausages. You can't miss the desserts.

I went there based on a recommendation from a staff member at my hotel in Inverness (I wanted to eat haggis). The restaurant (a fairly small restaurant on the first floor) is highly recommended. As already mentioned in other reviews, you should definitely make a reservation. Both the haggis and the cheese selection are very tasty. The great service and the ambience make your stay there perfect.

Visited this restaurant tonight for dinner. A nice friendly welcome from Lauren and Ellie and the service from them both was first class. The food was simply amazing, a rib eye steak to dye for cooked to perfection as it was meant to be. The food was also piping hot, lovely real fries and home made onion rings. The whole experience was amazing. Please do not hesitate to visit, but advisable to book,it’s extremely busy. Little wonder with the quality of everything.

Happily stumbled upon this restaurant and enjoyed possibly the best burger I've eaten. Juicy, full of flavour and satisfyingly tasty. Chips were perfection. Reservations recommended.

What a great restaurant and don't let the entrance and stairs put you off visiting.

Lovely meal here today. Was in between lunch and dinner. Nice sized portions, served fast on hot plates. Lovely quality meal. Kids enjoyed it too. Shame they don't have kids sized deserts menu. Nice place will definitely be back.

We arrived at the restaurant for our 7.30pm booking and were seated at a table nearest to the kitchen / toilets. I could see that there was a spare table for two at the back end of the restaurant, which was a much nicer position. I asked if we could have that table and was told we couldn't as they were fully booked and needed to move the tables together. Clearly this wasn't the case as there wasn't enough space to put another table in. Another table for two came free within a few minutes of us sitting down and I asked if we could have that one, which got the same reply. We were the last people to be seated that night and the second from last to leave, at 8.15pm. People came in after us and were turned away as they were fully booked yet there were several empty tables that never got filled and we overheard the waitress telling a customer that they had no one else in that night. We confronted the waitress when we asked for the bill as to why she wouldn't let us have a better table when clearly there was no- one else in and was told that they needed to move them for the next day. Absolute rubbish they just didnt want to oblige us! We only had a main course as we weren't very happy at being lied to and treated like idiots. The food was fine but nothing inspiring and the chicken was overcooked. There is no atmosphere in this restaurant and clearly no passion. It is dated and traditional and there are far more interesting places in Inverness to go to. Sorry Urquharts, you need to up your game to get our vote. Very disappointing!

One of the best restaurants in Inverness. Locally sourced fresh ingredients cooked to perfection. The venison and haggis burger was sensational and steak pie was absolutely delicious. Cranachan and banoffee pavlova for dessert were amongst the best we've had. Every dish we saw coming out of the kitchen looked exceptional. Staff were on point with everything - polite, friendly and professional. Very highly recommend visiting if you get a chance and make sure to book in advance!

Friendly staff, very popular place so ould recommend to book a table before going there. Their fish pie is amazing and the portion was really big.

I wanted to try the National Dish of the Scots and Urquhart didn't disappoint. We went in there at 2 pm in afternoon, half an hour shy of closing so the restaurant was pretty much empty. But the quality and the quantity of the food was just amazing. If you want to have Haggis, you must give this place a try. Other dishes were superb too. Total value for money given large portion sizes. Onion rings were wee bit oily, so I would skip them, but other than that everything else was yummy. We also had Hunters Chicken, Mac and Cheese wit chips and Chicken Curry. 10/10 recommend.

If you want to eat a good haggis, this is the right place. Great service too. Remember to book!

There are tons of highly rated restaurants in Inverness but few have a menu as varied and unique as Urquhart's. I thoroughly enjoyed my birthday dinner here, especially the dessert (which was very difficult to choose from the long list they had).

Excellent food! I was a bit afraid of spending to try Haggis (people love or hate it!) and it was fabulous!!! Excellent attention, nice place to a good food!

Went in for a late lunch/early dinner and had the roast beef. It was delicious, and the puff pastry and gravy were divine. The real winner was the creme brulee we had for dessert, though!

Shocking service, couldn’t serve a basic starter after waiting for 45 minutes. Someone across from us finished a main and dessert in the time we were waiting. Last time I visit here.

Lovely wee restaurant. Great service and good food

We were up in Inverness for a days days break and phoned and managed to get a table for dinner. Lovely highland welcome by staff . The menu catered for all tastes with a great selection to choose from . My wife chose Scampi and I ordered Stroganoff both were excellent in taste and presentation . We shared a homemade strawberry tart which was a delight to savour. Great value for money. Well worth a visit you will not be disappointed.

Walk up the stairs to be amazed by excellent food and service. The mushroom starter was excellent. The fish pie was amazing and the curry chicken delightful. Scrumptious deserts top offed a great dining experience. Service was great and friendly.

Fish & chips brilliant, haggis is the best I have tried, hunter's chicken is one of the best. The food is excellent! Service is fast! One thing which can be improved is the atmosphere - make it a bit cosier (not really critical, though). Keep it up, guys! Thank you for superb food!

Was there on Sunday evening, starters, main course and desserts were absolutely first class, service was polite and timely. Wine was reasonably priced, as was the meal. In my opinion, the best restaurant in Inverness.

Urquhart's fish pie is the best I've had.

Had a beautiful meal in Urquharts last night. The staff were lovely and our meal was delicious. My chicken with Haggis and whiskey sauce was excellent, as was the fabulous Malteser cheesecake OMG! Lovely atmosphere too. Highly recommended.

Absolutely love this place ... A local told us about it years ago & we always visit when in Inverness, sometimes twice as the food is amazing!

I emailed this business first to tell them about our experience and said I wouldn't be writing a review on TripAdvisor but since they didn't even have the courtesy to reply, here I am. Never in my life have I had such awful poor quality haggis. Every single mouthful had to but put out of my mouth onto a side plate, chewy grisly meat of the cheapest kind. My husband had a steak with was also a very cheap cut. The waitresses were like Sunday school teachers, my husband tried to crack a joke but nope, went right over her head. Absolutely no banter or craic with these waitresses. Would never go back and I'm amazed that there are so many good reviews!!!!

A place a stone's throw from the center of Inverness, small and with few seats but with a welcoming atmosphere. The girls who served us were very kind and helpful. Good food but not very tasty. Unfortunately we found a lack of salt on all courses. The Malteser cheesecake, on the other hand, is very good. Average price.

Now a long standing favourite restaurant, if anything the food has gotten even better. The staff are still friendly and efficient, and the food is presented excellently and tastes amazing.....I particularly recommend the Stornoway black pudding in whiskey sauce, simply amazing. By far and away one of the best places to eat in Inverness, and for that reason you really will want to book as early as possible.

The food is outstanding, the service brilliant, this has got to be the best restaurant in Inverness.

Went there on Friday with my brother as we were in Inverness for the weekend. The service to start with was good and the food was excellent. We decided against pudding so I had another drink and my brother had a coffee. We were sitting chatting and deciding if we were going to be having another drink or go back to hotel and have a drink there when the bill was put on our table which we had not asked for as though they were in a rush to get rid of us. It was only about 9 pm. We then asked for card machine and while my brother was paying the girl who I found out was called Rachel stood with her arms and legs crossed which I found very rude. I sent a email the next day to complain but the email address was Rachel....so obviously she must be the boss so I did not get a reply. Very disappointed and we certainly won't be going back.

It was a great lunch. Portions were BIG and filling. I loved the atmosphere: intimate and warm.

Mein Freund und ich hatten beide ein 3 Gänge Menü mit alkoholischen Getränken. Die hausgemachte Suppe mit dem selbst gebackenen Brot war unser Highlight. Als Hauptgang gab es Pilzrisotto und Curry. Beides hat gut geschmeckt und satt gemacht war jedoch Durchschnitt. Die Dessertkarte war sehr einladend und vielseitig. Beide Nachspeisen, Cheesecake und Crème Brulée waren sehr gut. Die Drinks waren gut gemixt, nicht zu stark und voller Geschmack. Fazit: sehr zu empfehlen.

Lovely restaurant situated close to the centre of Inverness. It has a good menu with food to suit all tastes. Everything was well presented and tasted delicious.

Had dinner here whilst visiting Inverness, and having read reviews. Food was good, but I feel somewhat over rated; felt more like "pub grub" than that of a restaurant. Probably wouldn't visit again.

Went on Sunday the 5th of November with our friends . Had an Excellent meal , service Excellent and dessert was out of this world. Would definitely go again and would recommend to family and friends .

Came in for lunch yesterday, thankfully we had booked in advance as when we arrived a sign said they were fully booked for the whole day. My roast dinner was fantastic - I didn't leave a single scrap on my plate! My husband's fish and chips was excellent too. We shared a banana and toffee pavlova for pudding which was beautifully presented and delicious. Service was excellent too. This place never disappoints.

The salmon with prawn and brandy sauce was to die for and the onion rings are the lightest and crispiest I've ever had!

Small restaurant with a feel of someone's house. Very intimate atmosphere. The food is traditional cuisine with a clear focus on local produce. The food is cooked to perfection like your mother would cook for you if your mother was an excellent chef! Enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere.

What a beautiful experience. Food was amazingly priced (we came for lunch), and so delicious. It was out first time trying haggis and was pleasantly surprised. Treated ourselves to dessert too, which were all super yummy! We came on a weekday for lunch and it was well packed, rang ahead for a table and thankfully one was available. The service was fantastic, with the waitresses attentive and accommodating. Would highly recommend!

Looked at the highly rated reviews (looking online for restaurants in the area, not knowing the place) and chose to go here on my date. I was not disappointed. Not only do the full bookings speak for itself, but the food was delicious, from the starters, to the mains to the dessert. I'd highly recommend this place. 👌

Absolute Empfehlung. Ich hatte Haggis, sollte man sich Mal trauen in Schottland! Und habe es nicht bereut. Mit einer hellen Bratensauce und Kartoffelpüree serviert war es sogar ganz lecker. Auch der Lammburger war super ! Bedienung sehr freundlich! Preise wirklich human.
