We’re told on arrival that the castle closes at 4, rest of the facilities at 4:25pm. Went to view the castle first as it was 3pm already and wanted to have a quick coffee after. We got inside just after 4 and got told the cafe was closed already - never had a chance to have a coffee and a disappointing end to a nice visit. Wouldn’t trust the information you’re given, castle worth the visit but rest of the facilities not so much…

After touring around the castle and grounds my hubby and mysrlf decided to get a coffee and bit to eat... He had a muffin and coffee i opted for soup and coffee... I had the soup in a take out container, when i got outside and removed the lid i was shocked to see the little amount of soup there was... I took the soup back inside and asked if that was the correct amount for £5.90 .. The young girl behind the till said im so sorry but policy is we only give one ladle of soup...she couldnt say sorry enough... I told her i understood it wasnt her fault but it was disgusting the amount for the price...she agreed.. so id say if your hungry DON'T have the soup!

We visited this cafe as it was the only one in the area to have some lunch. After paying £10 for two baguettes and then spending further money on two small bottles of water & two packets of biscuits we felt a little deflated. The baguette was average and most certainly not worth the money. Disappointing as we are sure this cafe has more to offer than just pre-packaged expensive food. Details were not taken for the track and trace either which surprised us.

We had spent the morning cruising Loch Ness and exploring Urquhart Castle so were ready for a nice bite to eat. While the range was similar to many tourist cafes, it was well prepared and the staff friendly. There were also a couple of vegetarian options which was nice to see. While I am usually totally vegetarian and was more than happy with my meal, I do admit I tried a little bit of the seafood chowder and it was delicious too. The view sitting outside is just fantastic and very popular so we did have to wait for a table.

Came to the ruins of Urquhart Castle about 40 years ago - what a lovely surprise to find the Visitor Centre. After a windy walk to the top of the ruin, frothy coffees were just the ticket with a slice of lemon drizzle for the hubby! Price was fine and the view really good...... friendly and efficient staff, with clean surroundings. Good to see that there has been lots of effort in the areas I have revisited to preserve these fabulous monuments and to encourage visitors of all ages - well done Scotland!!

I have a gluten free allergy and that being said most of my reviews are centered around my allergy unless I have someone else with me who can attest to the gluten based foods. That being said the selection is nice, but small. I had the option of soup and about 4-5 pastries and all the ice cream I could eat.First off, if you don't eat anything else you must get the ice cream and the indulgent hot chocolate. Sublime and wonderful. The pound cake with a tinge of lemon was nice moist and fluffy. Very pleasant to eat. The brownie was a little dry, but good after dumping it in the decadent hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was £3.50 the pastries combined was £5.00 and the ice cream was £2.25I came to about £11. I give this $...because the food wasn't bad in pricing for all that I got. This would have been almost double in price in America. My companion for non gluten free items recommended the salmon cream cheese bagel. She said it was good moist and pleasant to the palate. Not overpowering or too salty or flavorless. This get a 4 out of 5 because of the dryness of brownie and the few options for gluten free allergies. I could not eat "real" food only desserts outside of soup. Tsk tsk I guess I had to eat cake instead of food. But nevertheless, the staff was wonderful and the overall vibe was good. Definitely worth a spin if you decide to visit the castle as well. Please see my review about the castle as well. Until next time!

We drove here after our Loch Ness Cruise to view Urquhart Castle but there were so many tour groups, we ended up just having lunch. This is a large cafe with a huge menu of sandwiches, cakes, soup, pies, etc. but the prices are pretty high. The queues were long but the service was impressive and considering how many people were there, we were served very quickly. We were travelling on so just had a sandwich lunch with a cake & cup of tea/coffee. Everything was delicious and we would highly recommend the cafe.

On a rainy day when many tourists wanted to take some comfort in warm food they were running out of food. At least there was an ample amount of cakes that were excellent :-) It is often difficult to find balance between satisfying everyone all day and not making too much food, but better planning is possible... Prices are higher than average but they have no competition here :-)

They have a huge logistical problem that would be easy to fix--why should you stand in the food line to pay for a bottle of water? It would be so easy to suggest that you can pay for water or canned beverages in the souvenir line, which wasn't busy. On cruise ship days, the visitor's center is overwhelmed with people and this really detracts from the visit to the castle.

First the positive elements With the cafe, - great view and setting! Also, the melted brie sandwich was delicious. I tried the smoked salmon fritteria (?) dish which was very small and not that tasty. But the main probem With this Place was that there was no staff there for up to 10 minutes at a time (we stayed there for about 30 minutes, and this happened twice during Our stay there) and my husband went to the shop who could not help us because they were another Company, and my husband knocked on the door to the staff area from the cafe without anybody there. Very strange! When the guy at the cafe finally arrived, there was no excuse so this must be an ordinary behavior at the cafe. Average for what is a much visited attraction. Appallingly not dog friendly and symptomatic of a lack of empathy with travellers and residents alike. Missed opportunities abound. How do we get away with this in Scotland ? I look at our foreign visitors who are hauled around on coaches from venue to venue, box ticking, and let down by complacent holiday operators. They do things so much better in England and in Europe. Will we ever learn. Visitor numbers mean nothing.

Unfortunately we received a very poor example of a traditional Scottish dish, Cullen Skink. It was nothing like expected, and was more like bland watery leek and potato soup with some dyed smoked haddock added at the end. We received a warm welcome by staff and locals alike along with their dogs. Our haddock and chips arrived promptly and were delicious. However, our Westie started making a fuss. One of the locals and then a member of staff offered to “dog sit” so we could enjoy our meal. Exceptional! Thanks to all involved.

This Country Hotel lacks love and attention. Outside front and sides are very tall weeds, the flower boxes were full of wilted. Car park resembles a quary.. On entering the dining room was well presented albeit I felt it chilly . Only 3 diners and we had to wait to see if we would be accommodated. We were..we sat at our table and the really lovely young server took our order limited menu and 3 choices off that evening.. Food was just OK...not value for money @ £17.95 for haddock and chips. Overall not the greatest.. I'd love to see the outside tidied up and give the hotel some road side appeal

After arriving at skye and looking for places to eat this proved a little difficult as it was out of season and places had limited opening hours. We went for Gabbro bar after seeing it on google maps. The pictures of food looked passable. After getting there having to get our own wipes to clean the table after ordering things weren't looking good, then the toilets were very rundown and like a back street bar toilets. The food then came out in baskets, lined with greaseproof paper. (Something you would expect in a arcade) Fish and chips and the macaroni and chips. Even a plate would have been acceptable even though the fish was clearly out the freezer and very greasy. To top it off a random dog was wandering around trying to smell the food on the table and pushing its way under the table to check for any food.

The fab cinnamon buns elevated our coffee stop from great to awesome! Other really yummy cakes are available. Oh, and the vegan tomato pizza swirl looked great too if you fancy a savoury.

A total shambles. Sunday carvery .couldn't eat any of the meat as mostly fat.Plates so small you can't get much else on the plate.waitress saw me trying to catch her attention and hid .eventually came over sheepish with bill and at that point looked at all the fatty meat on plate and her response was sorry about that .we then never say any staff .They had vanished into kitchen .On our way out there was a lady who had mobility issues annoyed there was no disabled access just a set of very steep stairs .£24 each for 2 courses and only starter choice was soup.Dont waste your time .
