Urban 44 in Kingston upon Hull, City of

Went for lunch today going on previous reviews and wished we hadn't bothered. First thing we noticed was sign on table saying they preferred cash and if in a group preferred you paid by only one card! Staff weren't overly friendly. Food arrived my mums wrap was burnt and the salad on my plate (well a few bits of lettuce) had seen better days. Portions small for the price. On paying the bill I even noticed they had charged me 25p for the mayonnaise I asked for! Better places to go for lunch in the area, don't waste your money!

I love this cafe! I think it's one of the best in the whole area. The menu is very varied and there are more unusual choices on the menu which make the place more interesting. The coffee is wonderful and all the food I've tried - I've been a few times now - has been so full of flavour and well-cooked and presented.

We visited early Feb for a friend's leaving lunch. I've visited a few times before and always been a happy customer but I was a bit taken aback by this visit due to how one of my friends was treated because of her food intolerances. My friend was already worried about coming as she is only able to eat a certain food group due to medical reasons and didn't want to be awkward so she called ahead and was told it would be fine for what she wanted. Flashforward to the day and she was then told that she was not able to have her order of bacon and poached eggs because the chef was unable to do it past breakfast time. Even though these were on the lunch menu as extras, it was apparently impossible to do this! Impossible for a chef to cook 2 pieces of bacon and two eggs and pop it on a plate and charge the extra rate. The waitress was not coming home with any resolution so I then said I would order these as an extra to my lunch as I felt sorry for my friend who was looking at sitting there with no lunch, even after being told that her intolerance would be catered for and coming for that reason. Funnily enough, when the food for my friend arrived, which I had ordered as a side, it was on a separate plate! Such a shame as the food is lovely from Urban and I've never had an issue personally but how my friend was dealt with has put me off returning.

New to area and random pick from Google maps led me and daughters here after some shopping in Hessle only time for quick lunch but will definitely come back - my daughters polished their plates clean so that says a lot . Think we will have to take some cakes home as daddy will be full on jealous he’s not here

This restaurant is great for coffee, food and a good atmosphere. They have good music playing and the decor is so homely and comforting, the staff make you feel so welcomed as well as being kind and polite to you as a customer. I would definitely recommend Urban 44 as a great place to visit for a nice meal or a coffee date with a friend.

Repeat visit to our favourite little cafe and again we were not disappointed! Breakfasts x 2 were exceptional complimented by the brilliant staff who deserve a well done 👏 My wife had the Big 44 and I had the Eggs Royale with extra Salmon 😋 washed down by excellent house coffee ☕️ Thank you Urban 44

Urban is such a cosy, inviting space it’s so pretty inside and the staff are absolutely amazing, so friendly. The atmosphere is brilliant and the menu is very catering. The coffee was the best I’ve had !! I definitely recommend urban for any occasion.

Visited for a birthday afternoon tea with family and we couldn't have been more disappointed. When we arrived we were not greeted very well just pointed to a table, no communication to let us know they knew we were having afternoon tea and given a menu. After around a 20 min wait we were finally asked what we were having, I mentioned we bookked and had already paid for afternoon tea and we chose drinks. When the afternoon tea came we couldn't have been more disappointed, stale sandwiches, cakes and scones. We didn't eat much and nobody came to ask if we were OK or needed more drinks etc. A box was dropped on the table we assumed to take bits home and we left without any goodbyes. We won't be back.

Was driving past this place just as we needed some lunch so popped in - didn’t know anything about the place. Limited menu on the Sunday we visited, just breakfast and brunch items available but the full English and the mushrooms/poached egg on toast were quite honestly outstanding. I’ve eaten brunch at Betty’s in Harrogate and Ilkley in the past month and the poached egg I had today was better!! Fantastic quality and a very friendly chap serving us, will go again. Didn’t have any cakes but they looked delicious - maybe next time!

Fancied coffee and breakfast somewhere different and tried here. Looked good outside and in and not too busy. Read previous reviews on Facebook. Preoccupied waitress offered outside but we preferred inside. She offered us a window slot very close to adjacent customers, very very close. We asked if we could sit at a nearby table and surprisingly she said sit where you like. Sat down and read the preferences for cash as a small business and thought about our welcome. Wife said let’s go. As a first visit we were thinking new customers might not appreciate being an inconvenience. Fairly sure it’s a decent place but first impressions count.

Wow, just wow! First visit today, Father’s Day, and very impressed with every aspect of our visit. Three adults, two children all enjoyed superb breakfasts with lovely servers and very friendly atmosphere. Will certainly be making return visit. Thank you all.

It's a very popular cafe so I suggest you book to avoid disappointment. We came for Brunch and as usual was greeted warmly, taken to our table and asked what drinks we wanted and then told of the specials and given a menu, tempted by some wonderful choices, (I am a coeliac and they catered fo me no problem at all) me, my daughter and partner all opted for different things. We were served our drinks then our food came altogether and everything was delicious, I even got a gluten free cake Due to current covid conditions and less seating available than usual, we were totally fine having a time slot in which we could comfortably drink and eat our food in. Came here for a catch up with my friend, we both ordered the chocolate brownie milkshake but only one turned up. We assumed they’d be bringing the other shortly after however, we had finished our food and it had still not arrived. The service was fast but unwelcoming, the girls were very blunt and did not appreciate our custom. We had decided to leave and get a custard cream white chocolate muffin to go. After leaving we had realised they had charged me for the brownie milkshake that had never arrived and to add to our disappointment the muffin had a black hair in the icing as shown on the picture. Will not return again!

Met my daughter this afternoon for a long awaited catch up. Had a lovely tasty lunch today with friends. I opted for a "Forest Melody" however everything on the menu sounded delicious so I will definitely be visiting again. The gentleman who waited on our table was polite and attentive and met my friends every whim with a smile. Service was great. There is plenty of parking nearby, some even outside. I would highly recommend this coffee lounge.

£8 for two cup of terrible tea and a brownie, which i waited 10 to 15 mins for.. When there is no que..Needless to say i tipped the brew.. and our lass ate the brownie cause she didnt want to waste.

We visit Urban 44 every week and it is always excellent. I'm disabled so cafes can be a bit of a nightmare , but not this one. The staff are always cheerful and helpful and the food is FAB .

What a wonderful little cafe bar this is. I went with my mum for breakfast & found a lovely friendly place which was not too big & I think this helped with the friendliness. It was obvious there were a number of regular customers, which to me is always a good sign. Our waitress explained the menu & told us about the specials board as well. We both ended up ordering a brunch special & it was very delicious & tasty. The cakes all looked lovely & were homemade, but we had no room to try them after our filling meal.Urban 44 was recommended to me & I would certainly recommend it. It also has an advertising board at North Ferribly football ground & I hope people notice this & pay the cafe a visit. Although this was my first visit it will certainly not be my last.

Nigel and Maria are lovely people and urban 44 is a firm favourite for breakfast. The eggs royale is the best in the area.All ingredients is clearly fresh and prepped daily on site. Specials menu always has something fabulous on also but I love the eggs royale too much to switch. The coffee is also excellent. We always end up having more than one.We’ve been in for lunch a couple of times as well and the superfood salads are also excellent.I also like the factor you look after the police who popped in whilst we were there for a coffee top up on their shift. Only thing I can fault is you don’t do babycinos for my little girl but I’m hoping this may change.

I pop in whenever I get the opportunity, the food is always lovely and the staff are excellent.I’ve mainly called in for a morning Sandwich or sit down breakfast both have plenty of choice.Also worth mentioning the coffee as it’s probably the best I’ve had locally.If you get the chance call in you won’t be disappointed.

I met a friend for a drink and a catch-up. It was my first visit even though I live locally so I was curious to see if the place lived up to the excellent reviews on TA! It was a horrible cold and very wet day! It seemed dark in the cafe but probably just because it was so dismal outside. There was also a strong smell of chips/cooking. The décor is pleasant and welcoming.We were offered the menu straight away but we did not want food, just hot drinks. We both ordered a hot chocolate (without extras as we were being good) and they were brought quickly. It was only a cup though, I do prefer a mug but that is personal choice. It was not very hot either so I had to drink it straight away, not savour it as I would normally. However it was very nice. It cost £2.80. Staff were friendly and I would return.

Found on google when passing through the area great little find.Atmosphere relaxed and friendly. We all went for the Special, potato cake with avocado poached egg and Halloumi. Absolutely delicious even got a lesson on how to poach an egg from the chef, thank you for taking the time to do this. If ever back in the area will definitely call in again.

Met up with old school friends today and went to urban 44, what a great place. We had the "slider" mini burger, chicken and halloumi. I'm not keen on halloumi so they changed for another chicken and it was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble . All be back fornthe platter

Just popped in today across lunchtime. It was our first visit and was greeted straight away and given an option of where to sit. We choose to sit outside at the back - a really lovely and well thought out space, nicely decorated and very clean.

Being local I’ve passed Urban 44 on several occasions and thought must try that place. Finally visited today and frankly I was taken aback. Not what I expected at all. Bright contemporary interior, seating out front and in a rear garden. Lovely friendly welcoming atmosphere. Frankly this is more than a tea and coffee shop, although if that’s what you are looking for then that’s absolutely fine. Bistro should be added to the title. Service was prompt and very professional. Lovely infused tea with capacity for 3 cups (that’s a bonus!). I had the breakfast croissant (I don’t like avocado so just asked for no avocado - simple!) which was very tasty in deed. Daughter had pancakes with banana and syrup also delicious. Lunch menu looked equally enticing, cakes also. Really enjoyed this visit will be stopping off again very soon. Just another point , a previous reviewer complained that it was cold and they had to keep hats and coats on IN AUGUST !! noticed date of visit was JANUARY. Not a fair review I think lol

Me and my hubby went to Urban 44 in Hessle for something to eat and drink, we had ham/cheese melt with side salad the food was delicious fresh bread, lovely ham we also had a milkshake each and a piece of cake.

Gym summer bbq night, food delicious and plentiful. Hosts friendly and accommodating. Great little place, have previously visited for lunch, or just popped in for coffee and cake. Always come away having enjoyed it

I visited Urban 44 with my family for a Sunday morning breakfast and coffee, my breakfast was nicely cooked and very tasty but my wife only had toast as it appeared the rest of the menu was based around avacado and raw spinach, which wouldnt have been to her taste so just opted for toast and butter, in all fairness the bread was very good quality so she was happy. Almost finished our breakfasts by time our coffees arrived as i quote "sorry for your wait we had a lot of takeaway coffees to do". Fair enough but surely it is more important to look after the people sitting in eating than a takeaway coffee. When the coffee arrived it was ok, nothing special, i asked for an espresso to pour inro my cappuccino as it was pretty weak. The cafe was very cold inside with the door constantly being left open which i appreciate its the customers fault not the staff,but maybe put a closure on the door. There was no sign of heating either, we was all sat with our jackets and hats on. It wasnt bad but definatley in no rush to return.

We live a long way away from this restaurant and discovered it by fluke when returning from a ferry trip to Belgium one morning Feb 2019 and it was so good we promised ourselves to try to visit again whenever visiting Hull. Today, a Tuesday in May we were returning to Hull (The Deep with grandchildren during half term).

Popped in for a coffee as I’d heard good things. Ordered a take out coffee, service was slow as it was really busy. Got the money out of my purse ready to pay (looked at the chalkboard with pricing on to get the correct change out). When my coffee was done I went to hand over my money however the man serving me told me the coffee was 40p more expensive than stated on the board. I looked confused and asked why the board was wrong. The man got very defensive and said it was because he had put an extra shot in my coffee (which I definitely hadn’t asked for). I suggested maybe they should add that as an option to the board so customers don’t get confused. This seemed to wind the man up working behind the counter even more and I felt if I didn’t just pay and go this was going to turn into an argument. So I popped my money on the counter, took my coffee and didn’t even feel comfortable enough to stay to receive my change. No customer should be made to feel like that. The coffee was ok but I’ve had better in other coffee shops in hull. Definitely won’t go back.

If you want a change from your regular coffee shops, you can not go wrong with Urban 44. They original learnt the business in Australia so they certainly have the edge on every one else! Their coffee is unique and if you want to really relax try the Mumbai chai tea, it’s definitely a hug in a mug when you need it. Also the meals are delicious and home made cakes are to die for. To top it off the also have a liquor licence, nobody can beat them even if they tried. Just a little extra, I was going to move, for sale sign was up, then Urban opened, I tried it, guess what the sign came down and now have no intention of moving
