When we have been here in the past its always been great but our family meal on Christmas eve was a terrible experience. My father-in-law booked a late table for 3pm due to family logistics. This, in hindsight was probably a mistake as we were rushed from the get go to sit and order as quickly as possible. We should have expected the same level of service as the other diners but the staff clearly wanted us to leave as quickly as possible. This could have been forgiven if the food had been up to it usual standard but it was far from it. Firstly the menu (if you could call it that) was extremely limited and ranged from expensive to very expensive. If you didn't want to spend £35 on a steak then it was a choice of a burger or a vegetarian celeriac steak. I went for the burger @ £16 and it was probably one of the worst burgers I have ever eaten and I'm including McDonald's in that statement. It was quite literally thrown onto a plate with no care or garnish of any kind. It was also dry, overcooked and rubbery. There was an overpowering and frankly not pleasant taste of harissa. The slightly undercooked fries were served separately not individually but for a "help yourself free for all". We had to repeatedly ask for napkins and sauces. We were brought a tiny ramekin of mayonnaise between 6 of us and when we asked for more we were told they had run out. How the hell do you run out of mayonnaise? My dessert (again, a tiny choice of crumble of brownie) was the apple crumble and was served Luke warm at best with about a tablespoon of uncooked sugar and crumble mix thrown on top. I felt very sorry for my father in law as he paid for this terrible meal as our family Christmas get together. I certainly wouldn't have paid for this food and service. The chefs here should be ashamed of themselves. In this day and age of covid upsetting the industry then I would say this place isn't going to last long as other restaurants have far higher standards of food and service in the area. Shame. It used to be nice.

Fourth visit and still just as fantastic. Great service headed by Alex, just a truly superb hospitality manager. The settings are cosy for such a large barn, with cool lighting and the smell of wood fire. The food is just as good, a great menu cooked perfectly. And to top it off, the tap room through that back offers a top quality offering of wines, beers, liquors, including the Big Grin Gin or vodka, both excellent. We will continue to come back and keep bringing friends to spread the word!

We went as a family on Friday night and had the BBQ set menu. Excellent food but wrap up warm as the food is served on picnic tables in an unheated barn (I think they light the woodburners a little later in the year!) - all added to a novel and authentic experience though!

We went to the Firehouse on Friday for BBQ night. What a great atmosphere ! Warmth of the welcome matched by warmth of log burners, fiery glow from the cooking oven and sparking lights over head. Chattering families were followed by groups of adults on a night out. The food was great. Couldn’t believe the range of tasty BBQ meats included in the one price ( chicken, beef and pork) . This came with starter ( We really loved the focaccia bread and tahini hummus ) and salads. The butternut, red onion and spelt salad so good we paid for more. We will definitely be back soon with friends.

We stayed at the Redsky campsite next to this establishment. There were 4 of us in our party and on arrival at the site we made our way for lunch. We were thoroughly impressed with the menu which offered something different from other restaurants and pubs. Our party enjoyed delicious burgers and truly scrumptious ribs with homemade coleslaw. We booked in for breakfast the next morning before finishing our meal! The staff were warm and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The decor is relaxed and stylish and the open kitchen was spotlessly clean. We particularly liked the fairy lights! Breakfast was also an event. Can recommend the crumpets with brisket and fried egg- honestly not eaten beef for breakfast before but wow! The full English was well presented and all the ingredients were of high quality and cooked to perfection. The freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious. Our whole party enjoyed our experience and only wished that we live closer so we could visit more often!

Fantastic food and service, was recommended - and wasn’t disappointed. What a gem this place -we will definitely be back for more!

Popped in for Sunday morning breakfast, excellent, all 4 of us enjoyed the food and the staff were so welcoming.

Sorry to be writing a poor review but this was, pre-Covid, one of my favourite destinations and I was SO disappointed with my visit last night. Previously we enjoyed free choice from a varied bar of meat, veg and salads, all bursting with freshness and seething with flavour. Now I know self service isn’t really a thing at the moment and completely understand why, but the food we were served was really none of the above. Everything tasted and felt like it had been made a day earlier and warmed over. Not even very thoroughly warmed over. The meats were hard and tough, flavours had declined, the roast potatoes were tepid and greasy. Most bizarrely of all, the food we were served bore little relation to the menu we were given. No pulled pork or harissa beef, ribs and belly pork turned up which weren’t on the menu, quinoa salad where bean salad was stated. What is going on? You can’t just dump any old food on a plate and expect that the punters won’t notice. The Cole slaw was amateurishly prepared and a very mean portion - it’s cheap stuff for goodness sake, at least you could afford to be generous. On a positive note, the staff were great, fitting us in at short notice and very friendly and helpful. Also the venue remains great, The barn is large and airy, very covid-safe and with a (potentially) great atmosphere - but not with cooking like that. I really hope to see a return to the great standards of the past and to posting a glowing review in the future but yesterday’s experience falls far short.

We were visiting the area for a couple of days and looked at the reviews and decided to give it a go. So glad we did. It's a huge BBQ in a barn with lots of fairy lights making it look magical. The food was £20 pp for the bbq and there was plenty to go at, so much actually that we struggled to finish. Lots of people had takeout boxes to take home because they couldn't finish it. Loved the atmosphere and would highly recommend.

The restaurant is in a large barn-like structure with pub garden style seating. This makes it airy and open but plenty of tables, although almost completely full when we were there. It's a very interesting menu based around BBQs, but is far more than you would do on your BBQ at home. You can see Sam and Jak working away cooking the food, fresh from the grill. They were very flexible in catering for any special dietary requirements (e.g. vegan). Everybody got served at the same time, the quantities were substantial and the food itself excellent. The service was quick and with a friendly smile, making the experience all the better. Overall an excellent experience and one we will be happy to come back to.

I couldn’t be more pleased that Sam and Jak are running the Upton Firehouse. It was great previously with the all you can eat BBQ self serve meat fest! But obviously self serve isn’t practical now anyway. But it was a bit ‘meat fest’ or nothing. Now Sam and Jak are injecting some of the similar style menu and quality that they were so excellent at when working at our old favourite Madebybob. It seems that losing Bob, Sam and Jak has been a major loss to madebybob as dissapointingly it isn’t as good anymore. But it’s our gain as the boys have moved nearer to where we now live and they are doing a great job. We visited actually on two occasions this weekend. Saturday we went with friends and had excellent hot wings, and possibly the best burger I have eaten for quite some time! Everyone else were also very happy with with their choices too! I then went with my wife and some of the children for Sunday roast, which again was faultless. We had a great time and will be back, the downside is that it’s so good i need to go back ASAP. Keep it up guys! The service is great too by the way!

We ordered our food, then changed it at the last minute and they accommodated us, the brisket chilli and fries was amazing and my husband's burger was the best he had tasted in a long time, really safe to pick up and helped cheer us up in lockdown.

We booked this restaurant for lunch as a celebration for my wife’s birthday. The restrictions that the Covid rules that have to be adhered to was a concern, however our fears were misplaced. They are not allowed to run a Buffett style which is a shame, but the menu was extensive and the food served to your table. We went on a Wednesday and unbeknownst to me when I booked we had selected the final Wednesday when you got 30% discount. The food was superb and I would have been happy to pay the full price. The price of the two beers we had, was I feel on the high side , but very palatable. I would recommend this eatery as a good place to choose.

A lovely Sunday breakfast. We shared the smoked salmon scrabbled eggs and brisket crumpets. Great vibe, varied menu, and if you love smoked food a few real treats. We will be returning with friends and family soon. Sam and Jak and team thanks for a lovely foodie experience. (Take a jacket to keep warm if you feel the cold - as the fires were not burning yesterday).

Mi esposa, mi hija de 3 meses y yo visitamos para almorzar y fue perfecto para lo que necesitábamos.¡Era algo diferente a un pub rural de Cotswold y nos encanta cualquier ahumadero!Era un granero grande y espacioso con mesas bien separadas. Buen ambiente con buena música y personal atento. El personal fue complaciente con su servicio y cualquier solicitud específica.¡La comida en sí estaba deliciosa! todo lo que esperas de un ahumadero. Teníamos las costillas y las patatas fritas con una pequeña fuente de carne para compartir. Todo estaba delicioso y lleno de sabor ahumado. El plato venía con patatas, hojas de ensalada, arroz y pan, que era un buen acompañamiento para la carne. Lo lavamos todo con una bonita botella de sidra. ¡También recibimos un 30% de descuento!Lo recomendaría al 100%. Me imagino que este lugar es ideal para el desayuno / brunch, el almuerzo y la cena. Fuimos como una familia adulta de 3 personas a visitar para un almuerzo de domingo; el ambiente en el granero era genial y muy diferente a la escena de un pub tradicional.La comida era excelente: mi esposa comió un filete ("hermoso"), chuletas de cordero hija y yo la hamburguesa de la estación de bomberos, todo cocinado en una barbacoa enorme, la calidad de la comida y los acompañamientos excelentes.La cerveza y el vino también están bien, cerveza de su fábrica de cerveza.Solo los inodoros negativos eran cuestionables, especialmente aparentemente las mujeres: estos deben actualizarse / mejorarse.Además, el servicio de mesa no estaba en sintonía con la entrega de alimentos: nuestra comida llegó de la barbacoa y luego tuvimos que esperar y luego perseguir la entrega de utensilios, servilletas, salsas, etc.En general, aunque bien merece una visita, volveremos.

We visited the Upton Firehouse for a spur of the moment lunch. We were thrilled with the food - delicious sea bass, beautifully cooked and the quality of the wine we ordered. Speedy, friendly service throughout. Excellent - we’ll be back!!

Tasty BBQ, good varied menu and very nice craft beer made on site. Service was unfailingly friendly although slightly overwhelmed with an unexpected turnout during our lunch visit. We will be back!

I am sad to report the disappointing experience from Sam & Jak tonight. This place I usually rave about and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend, until this evening. A reluctant 1 star only because there is no option to leave none...We were a group of 4 out for pizza to celebrate a birthday, we called ahead to reserve and were told no need just turn up, we arrived at 8pm to be told they “had run out of pizza dough, so no service”We sat outside on one of the benches chatting & weighing up our options and witnessed 3 different groups of people enter and not leave, we had decided that we would return the following week, one of the group went inside to reserve to avoid disappointment only to find that the people who arrived after us seated and being served, when challenged on the pizza dough issue which was clearly a lie there was no explanation nor apology offered.We have supported your business since the start when there were only few customers but if this is the now standard of customer service you won’t be getting any more business from me. Sam & Jak it’s worth remembering “it’s not the employer who pays the wages, they only handle the money. The customers pay the wages”.I am open to discuss the matter further should you wish to respond!

Myself and partner visited the firehouse this morning for breakfast and we were not disappointed at all!!!! The BEST breakfast we’ve ever experienced, from the food to the service to the juice bar! The atmosphere was brilliant, the owners Sam and Jak cooked our breakfast and it was perfect! Couldn’t recommend it enough, they’ve recently built in a juice bar in the restaurant which we saw on Instagram and had to check it out, brilliant all round well done! Already planned to go back next week!

Big shout out to the Firehouse for working under Cover restrictions.. We have used the latest offerings for Friday Night BBQ and treats a couple of time now, and both times have been fantastic. £20 a head for a FULL main meal! The first time we pre-ordered we weren't sure how it would be, but we didn't need any concerns. Arriving, speaking about my order (pre-booked via email) out of the window. I only got out to go and pay, then back in the car and our food was well packed and delivered to the car. Fantastic bbq, and plenty enough to lunch the next day. Highlights for me being the buffalo chicken thighs and also the savoy, apple and celery coleslaw. Really great to be able to feel like you're eating out at home, and all for £20 a head. We'll be back again for sure.

Hands down the best BBQ food around, and now our go-to takeaway. We planned to eat at the actual restaurant for Easter, but given the current circumstances that wasn't possible. When we realised Sam&Jak were running a takeaway service on Fridays we couldn't resist.The food is AMAZING! Superb selection of high quality, locally sourced meats and a variety of side dishes usually with bread and/or potatoes. £20 for one portion that will easily feed 2 adults!Very friendly and accommodating staff, willing to go the extra mile. No complaints here.

Purchased a fabulous take away yesterday consisting of various high quality meats, salmon, salads and bread. It was BBQ takeaway night. These guys know how to cook wonderful food from locally sourced Ingredients. Their restaurant is one of our favourite places to eat and given the current pandemic are doing a great job with their shop and take away menus. An absolute must for a unique dining experience Keep up the good work guys

We have been to Upton Firehouse on a number of occasions and have always highly recommended it. Following our booking for 6 at 3pm today, we also pre booked a vegetarian dish for one of our guests. However, we had a very bad experience and won’t be returning. On arrival they had run out of chicken, the meat was very dry and cold as it had been sat there for quite sometime. Our vegetarian guest was told to help herself to salad and potatoes and there was no vegetarian dish plated for her as before. We were then charged £19.50 for potatoes and salad. I spoke to a girl behind the bar who explained that’s just the way it is. Very unhelpful and didn’t want to know. I asked to see the manager and was told they were both busy. After 1 hour, one of the managers came to our table. He explained they had a busy day and that’s why they had run out of chicken. Even though they still had guests coming in and serving food until 4pm. Couldn’t see a problem paying £19.50 for potatoes and salad as potato dauphinois is expensive. Good quality potatoes, cheese and cream is costly. Really? He begrudgingly apologised and left. Since the firehouse has changed ownership it’s standards and customer service have declined. Prices have gone up and I would strongly not recommend this place. That’s just the way it is!!!!

Lunch here for the first time. Great selection of meat, salads all served in the cow barn! Even get a pint of beer from the micro brewery next door. All the meat was tasty, cooked well and you can eat as much as you wish. Booking essential

Mi novio y yo nos topamos con este lugar mientras conducíamos de regreso a Reading y estamos muy contentos de haberlo hecho. Este es un pequeño lugar fantástico, la comida era increíble, con una amplia variedad de opciones y un ambiente tan bueno. Estoy triste porque no vivimos más cerca de eso.

Nunca he estado en un lugar como este. Desde afuera parece un edificio en un polígono industrial. En realidad no es muy obvio cómo entrar, pero una vez que encontramos la puerta y nuestros ojos se acostumbraron al interior oscuro, fue una verdadera sorpresa. Un espacio cavernoso lleno de mesas de picnic. La informalidad es la consigna, así que básicamente te sientas, te dan un plato, llevas el plato al área de servicio y eliges entre lo que parece una variedad interminable de platos y sigues volviendo por más hasta que te duele.La comida era excelente, con una variedad de carnes a la parrilla, verduras, ensaladas e incluso un salmón cocido.Hay un olor encantador a humo de leña y todo el ambiente es divertido y relajado. Nos lo pasamos muy bien y sin duda volveremos.Los únicos inconvenientes fueron que los bancos de picnic no eran los más cómodos; cuando fuimos había muchos niños corriendo y poniéndose debajo de sus pies (lo que para ser justos dice más sobre los padres que el lugar) y se agregó un cargo por servicio que, para ser franco, era ridículo ya que el único servicio que teníamos era cuando las camareras nos trajeron nuestros platos y una ronda de bebidas. Como éramos una fiesta razonablemente grande, la "propina" llegó a más de 30, lo cual fue exagerado. El 19. 50 por cabeza era razonable para la cantidad y calidad de la comida, pero un cargo por servicio adicional era un poco demasiado.

Reservamos la estación de bomberos para una celebración familiar y no me decepcionó.Muy impresionado con todo el conjunto, increíble gran barbacoa y muchos extras deliciosos. No soy un gran devorador de carne, pero estaba más que feliz con el encantador salmón y las mejores papas Dauphinoise. Ya he reservado una visita de regreso. Suerte al equipo. . tiene una experiencia única que ofrecer y realmente la disfrutamos.

We ventured out to try the food at this somewhat unusual eatery. The price per person was £19.50p which seemed a little pricey to start with. We arrived in good time for our booked slot and was pleasantly surprised to find their was a micro brewery right next door. We decided to check this heaven sent addition and found that the beers on offer were excellent. After purchasing or drinks we were again pleasantly surprise that we could take our drinks through to the restaurant which was situated within a 10mtr walk. The waitress approached us and confirmed our booking and again we were pleasantly surprised that it was a buffet and there was no limit to how many times you could visit. The food is cooked fresh and the choices of meat wide ranging. Beef, steak, brisket, chicken, pork, lamb, gammon and smoked salmon. A number of salads were also on offer. The food was continually refreshed and kept hot. All in all this was a very enjoyable experience so much so we would definitely return on a regular basis. I made two visits to the food counter as that was more than enough for me, however the guy on the next table made four visits. The value is excellent if you like meat cooked on a BBQ with various tastes and aromas. The desserts are £6 and we had one which was plentiful for two people.

We have been planning a trip to the fire house for over a month for a birthday...we rang a few days before to add a extra person to table... all fine..Saturday came my son rang to confirm the time of our booking and was told there is no bookings today as there was a market on... they were only running a bbq. ... needless to say we we re left disappointed and annoyed..just a phone call to say there had been a mix up or an apology when we rang would have gone a long way... looks a nice place to eat but I certainly won’t be going back...

Booked a table for myself and our family for my birthday for the bbq lunch buffet, was very excited to try it as the venue looked excellent and have read great reviews.

Have visited twice now, great food on both occasions, very friendly staff. Really like the informal family atmosphere. The side dishes are great so maybe a better vegetarian option would give it wider appeal?

We dropped by for a late lunch on a Sunday & after just managing to park we were delighted they had room inside. The barn is lovely, and our son especially loved the cartoons being projected on the wall. Wide choice of food, but unfortunately for us some of the meats (ribs, chicken wings, sausages etc) were cooler than what we'd of preferred . The salad accompaniments were nice. First impressions last, and as we prefer our Sunday lunch hot, we won't be making a return visit, which is a shame as the venue would be ideal for larger celebrations.

Under new management and noticeably better with wider choices of side dishes and salads in addition to the perfect selection of freshly cooked in front of you meats and fish. We just love the relaxed atmosphere with local onsite brewed beers

I did not even know about this place...so it was a great surprise as the outside does not look very exciting! I would definately visit again. Good value for just under £20. Micro brewery also behind building. Great choice of meats and salads.

Visited recently and was so disappointed! This used to be so good. It is under new management. The quality and choice of meats has gone down. The price had gone up. Would no longer recommend it. It’s a shame because the atmosphere is still good it is a perfect setting for a relaxed meal with friends and family. People still want good food too though!

Been to the firehouse for food on many occasions & it never disappoints! We pretty much go to their pizza night on a Wednesday every week, their pizzas are DELICIOUS & in my opinion the best in the Cotswolds! The service is always great & the relax dining feel makes it a lovely place to go with friends & family. At the weekends it is always busy and has a great atmosphere, to top it off when the weather is nice it is has a lovely little outdoor seating area where you can sit, eat, drink & chill (what more could you want!)

I took my partner here for her 30th birthday as had heard great things. We were not let down! From the moment we walked in it was great service and the staff were very friendly and had a nice vibe. It was refreshing to see a relaxed layout of tables and we loved that we could go and help ourselves to the variety of great food and go back for more when we wanted!

My friends took me here last Sunday for lunch, I was completely amazed..from the outside it just looks like a huge wooden barn! inside its a busy, buzzing restaurant! The food is served buffet style on a bar in front of a massive bbq and its all you can eat. I loved the asparagus, hot smoked salmon, sirloin steak and all of the salads!!! Can't wait too go back!

The place has a great atmostphere, it is incredibly relaxed and not too loud. The food is wonderful, and apparently the menu changes regularly. I particularly liked the seared asparagus and the cumberland sausages, but the salads where a revelation.

My wife and I chanced across this place a few weeks ago when we took the A40 route over to Wales and were very pleasantly surprised. It’s essentially an all you can eat buffet in a barn but it’s really well done, the food is excellent (both the various meats and all the salads etc) and the service is very friendly and attentive. It’s also dog friendly, indoors and out. We felt that the £20pp cover charge was at the top end of what was acceptable, but overall we were happy enough with the experience and I went back again a few weeks later with two of our children. Another good food and service experience again this time, although we hadn’t realised until we went to pay that the child portion charge (which is still a very steep £10 for one course) is only applicable for children aged 3 to 11. This is completely absurd and if we do go back, we won’t bring the kids.

Been told about this hidden gem from some friends of ours, so we thought we would pop in for lunch. Service 100% food 1000% amazing so tasty and freshly cooked right in front of you !! The pricing is fair £20 PP for as much food as you would eat !! We will be back soon !!

Great afternoon. Really friendly and easy to book. We had a group of 18. The service was brilliant and the food was great. My photos don’t do it justice. We will definitely be going back.

I love their shop and products so was excited to visit them for lunch which was quite an event. Great buffet, great food and good value, food refreshed during service and the salads are excellent, great venue for a casual family meal.

Visit the buffet as often as you wish- nice selection of meats and salads- veggie and vegan options available too so large family well fed. Desserts were large and shareable.

Awesome eatery must go to venue. Everything is authentic, smoked onsite (over the field) then cooked on the largest barbecue I’ve ever seen and tastes wonderful. Full bar and nice people. Great choices plus vegetarian Wife was perfectly looked after and happy.

What a great concept, well worth a visit, we are not 'local' but will definitely visit again. Staff excellent, food excellent, everything 'just right !'

13 of us, family and friends aged 2-89, got together to celebrate a birthday. We enjoyed the relaxed nature of the Firehouse and the high quality of the food provided in the buffet.

This place is excellent. It’s all very rustic in a barn on picnics tables, but the food was just amazing. We had a great time and we will defo return here.

We went here on a wet day out with our young daughter. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The massive bbq looked great at one end of the room and the bar at the other end. It was a buffet style so could have a big plate of all your favourites. Will definitely be coming back with friends.

Came with my nephew who is a BBQ expert, having spent plenty of time in the USA and has is own smoker at home. Ribs, Brisket and Pulled Pork all great, not to spicy and Rib's fell off the bone, finger licking good. The Moroccan Lamb was lovely lamb with a pretty strong rub, the thai chicken thighs and cumberland sausage also good.

We went to Upton Smokery for Sunday Lunch last weekend and enjoyed a lovely laid back afternoon eating foor cooked on their very impressive indoor BBQ. The restuarant looks like a barn and has lots of tables with benches covered in cow hide. There are the odd chair or two which was great for my back. Staff were very attentive and friendly.

Fantastic place. Quality food. Quirky setting. Friendly and helpful staff. Even got to see some magic tricks! Loved it, will definitely be returning!

Found it by just driving by, doesn’t look like much from the outside, but well recommended. Buffet BBQ, meats, fish, salads fantastic choice.
