Carterton Fish & Chips Shop in West Oxfordshire

Now the portion are amazing! And the curry sauces was delicious with a touch of salt added.. but the chips were chewy, strange. You would expect crispy yet fluffy chips. But they were so odd I can’t tell if it was the potatoes or if they were just cooked hours before. I will try again and amend the review if it was just a one off bad day for everyone.

Love love love this place! You get a bang for your buck, the portion sizes are huge! And for such a small price! It's crazy, the location is convenient and the food it always cooked perfectly and the right temperature. They're always generous with the salt and vinegar exactly how I like it! Super kind and friendly staff. Out of all fish and chips shops local this is my number 1

I had a lrg fish and chips Batter crispy and chips nice flavour and fluffy I tried burford rd Carterton twice same product and fish no taste and batter not crispy.. chips not good. On first and second visit even gave them a chance… So we’ll done . Be there again..

Purchased Fish and Chips at 12-30 today. Chips were not even tepid. Ate them 3 mins after purchase. In my opinion they were from last night. Feeding ones I didn't eat to the dog. Hope she is alright afterwards.

We were staying in a village just outside Carterton, had heard through the grapevine how good thier food was. We were not disappointed by no means. Not greasy, cooked to perfection 😋. Good size portion, reasonably priced and good value. The young lady with long plated on her left shoulder was very helpful and polite, with a smile. Very pleasant lady. Nothing too much trouble. Shame we are 95 miles away.!!!

It was a very hungry Tuesday for me and the family. Only a big Chippy feed would do! And Carterton chip shop delivered good! The fish was flaky and its batter was crispy! The chicken nuggets were cooked to order, very tasty and enjoyed by my youngest! The battered sausage was scummy and naughty! The curry sauce and mushy peas were both traditional, hot and plentiful. The large chips was massive and fed a family of 5! And all of this for just over £5 a person! Well done 👏 from a very happy and full Carterton family.

Very poor fish was dry felt like it was from yesterday .very disappointed .

Appalling customer service. Batter was rock hard with very little fish in it. The worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. Why bother opening if you just grunt and look miserable you obviously don’t want to be there. As for the fish it was definitely overcooked!

We've always stuck with the original chip shop as we wanted to be loyal to local business, but when I went in the other day the woman wasn't wearing a mask, coughed as she served our food, then wiped her nose on her hand as I walked away. And the chips seemed like they'd been kept warm for a long time. Don't think we'll go there again.

I asked for a large fish and chips and a regular fish and chips. I recieved the same size for both and they were more than happy to charge for large portions. I won't be using again would rather go to the harbour as at least I dont feel like I get ripped off.

First time visitor. Quite a few eateries and other chippys in the vicinity but came here as had some good reviews. I had fish and chips as usual. The meal isn’t too expensive at 6.60 ish. The chips were really good and might have been twice fried. Not sure but they were the undoubted highlight of the meal. Really tasty. Crispy. Didn’t go soggy with vinegar. I even took what I couldn’t eat home and reheated them the next day. Still lovely. My mate had a steak and kidney pie and said it was of a very high standard with more meat and less gravy than he is used to. My fish had already been cooked on arrival. Although the fish was quite big, it was very thin and of a poor quality. The batter was hard and chewy despite being quite thin and I did not eat it, scraping the fish flesh off the batter to eat it with my fork. No chunky, flaky cod here, as I said - it was very thin fish and a bit rubbish. So that’s cost them the stars. Another review states they will fry fresh if asked. I would consider doing that if I was to return, which I might. Because I really enjoyed the chips. I don’t want to write the place off, particularly as there are other Chippys to try locally but be nice for them to up their fish game. I’ve enclosed photos of the fish and chips.

Very good fish and chips actually. The shop was easily found. The fish was big and the chips well cooked. Contactless payment was accepted and CV19 precautions were evident.

Ok except I asked for Chicken Breast and Chips twice but got home to find one was a chicken breast and 1 chicken leg.

Rude staff, who seem very uninterested in their job and customer service. Fish wasn't the best and chips were luke warm. Very disappointed so won't be returning

Stale ships, like cardboard, definitely not freshly cooked, seemed like they were cooked earlier and were hanging around waiting to be sold. Waste of money for my monthly treat.

Without a doubt, the best fish and chips in Carterton. Always a smile and a cheery chat for the customers.

First time eating here. Ordered a large cod and chip. Portion was very generous! Unfortunately the chips were cold and undercooked while the fish was tough and overcooked. Disappointingly, the picture looks much better than it tasted. I'll not be a repeat customer.

Really good fish and chips but one thing to many chips asked for less so they did just need to sort out there porsons

It's a shame that the quality died. I was a longstanding client here! Their love for the shop has gone which shows in the quality I'm afraid.

This is the only fish andchip shop we used, but if going late in the evening thing can be a bit cold, but at peak time best there is.

Two medium cod and chips and one pie - not difficult. Nothing cooked fresh and one piece of fish was definitely not cod and was probably the worst we've been sold - ever. Won't be going back.

Fantastic Fish & Chip Shop! You have to walk round the parade area where there are loads of other food shops to tempt you, but don't give in, stay on the fish & chip shop track! Great portion size, good prices and best of all, fresh food. Very tasty meal here after dining at a posh restaurant for a couple of nights, what a relief for some normal good food - loved it and will return if ever in the area.
