A pleasant lunch visit on a hot hot day. Menus looked through and we decided on 1 Ham sandwich with salad and crisps 2 Wensleydale cheese sandwich as above Friendly prompt service. Drinks tea and chilled tap water. Including deserved tip just over £21. The deli downstairs is worth a visit on merit too. We moved to the area last year and will return as great places deserve their busy trade. Too many places have poor staff but here friendly and well trained. Keep up the great work. See you again soon.

Friendly and helpful staff - nothing was too much trouble. I wanted a seat outside and enjoyed a delightful lemon meringue pie with fresh cream and berries - Taylor’s tea in a generous pot and three cups later - all done :)

Both my wife and I ordered the hearty vegetable soup. Worst soup we’ve had in our lives, completely tasteless not to be recommended.

Great little tea room with a good menu good value I had a bacon roll and pot of tea. Bacon roll had 4 larg rashers of bacon and very tasty.

Second visit, delightful food, pleasant staff, good value for money. We will definitely return on our next visit to Thirsk.

Staff were very pleasant and we were served quickly. The food came out fast and was very good. They got my husband’s order wrong but quickly rectified the problem and then apologised multiple times. We’ll definitely eat here again.

The food and service in this lovely tea room completely exceeded my expectations. I was working on my laptop and asked if I needed internet access, tap water is provided chilled and bottled and the cheese scones are the best I've ever had. It's the little touches that make customers feel really welcome in a venue, this place has them in spades!

Nice place with plenty of character. Had the Yorkshire breakfast and thoroughly enjoyed it. Coffee I ordered was wrong but I couldn't be bothered so drank a decaf... was ok. Service was friendly although a bit slow and it wasn't that busy. Looking forward to returning for another breakfast.

Popped in here today while visiting Thirsk. We only went to the deli downstairs rather than the cafe upstairs. There is a large counter of cakes/pastries and a shop selling lots of products - jams/sauces etc. There is a sandwich bar at the back that does sandwiches, jacket potatoes, salads etc. We had a tuna panini which was amazing and a chicken salad roll, also spot on. The fillings are fresh and generous and everything you could ask for in a sandwich! The lady serving was super friendly. I would highly recommend and go back for a light lunch takeaway if we are ever back :)

Lovely spot!! Gorgeous deli downstairs full of stuff you didn't know you needed! Sandwich bar behind this but upstairs is the cafe! Only small but characterful! We only had coffee and cake today but other people's lunch looked delicious. My latte was smooth and velvety and I loved the mugs! And the cakes were beautifully presented!!! Oh my goodness! Passion fruit, physalis, blue berries and cream! Gorgeous!! Yes, I would recommend it to anyone that can manage stairs. Great little spot!

My 3 friends and i were looking for a place for a light lunch after visiting the vet museum. Our tea was served in a pot and China cups the food was excellent and generous. Our number one place to to eat for lunch whenever we visit Thirsk. All the staff are very friendly, the menu quite varied and service quite prompt even when busy. My favourite is the cheese savoury (cheese, mayonnaise and spring onion) sandwich , and 2nd favourite a jacket potato with cheese savoury filling…. However, the platters are equally delicious, using food from their own deli downstairs.

Really friendly, helpful and hard working staff. My breakfast was delicious and I got free coffee with it because I ate before 11am. Highly recommended - looking forward to going back.

This was our third visit for breakfast it’s a fantastic breakfast top quality food and lovely staff called in the next day for some scones also excellent.

What a find, after the disappointment of the market not having a cheese stall we popped in here, great selection of both local, other British, and foreign cheeses, and a great selection of everything else foody, all served by a very knowledgeable and friendly lady, it was that good (and raining outside), we went up to the restaurant and had an excellent lunch, a real treat, thank you

Very friendly and helpful staff. More than willing to take the time to explain gluten free availability. Since my wife was diagnosed coeliac a year ago we have often struggled to find genuine gluten free eateries. This one is very good.

100% recommend these beautiful tea rooms, which also house a Delikatessen and sandwich bar. There were 7 of us having brunch. Fantastic service and delicious food 😊. Lovely atmosphere.

We drove off the A19 after seeing recommendations online for "best bacon sarnies".. Two sarnies and a coffee later we are very happy we did! Well worth a detour!

If you are looking for an excellent breakfast highly recommend the Yorkshire Breakfast. This is a full English breakfast that includes black pudding which I don’t particularly like however I was offered a substitute which I wasn’t expecting. If you order before 11:00 it includes a pot of tea. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, particularly enjoyed talking to Gail who is a Thirsk history fan.

I was looking for somewhere to get something to eat. It was Saturday afternoon, light drizzle, and not many places were open and also a race day. I came across Upstairs Downstairs which said Tearooms. I ventured in and was pointed to go upstairs if I wanted a meal. Although busy I was shown to a table for one and given a menu. Shortly afterwards I was asked what I had chosen.. I ordered a meal and a pot of tea . I had just finished my first cup of tea when I was presented with my meal which was very filling . I had an individual meat pie resting on a bed of leaves with a marinade, tomatos piece of cheese, pickled onions and a small dish of relish. The service was excellent and the price reasonable.

The cafe does not allow any dogs in including assistance dogs which is unlawful. So we had a lovely meal at a dog friendly cafe near the seating area in market square.

Stopped for a bit of lunch while we were visiting Thrisk. Was not that impressed with anything really. Staff were not great, cutlery was dirty, food was average not what I would expect.. would not return 😕

I’m extremely impressed with this fab deli / cafe/restaurant in Thirsk .It’s so good I almost struggle to put it in words.Tea lovers will adore the beautiful crockery and it’s very pleasant in the usual areas of staff , decor etc but the food is simply mind blowing .Look at this for a ten pound ‘cheese , crackers and chutney ‘ plate .It came on a board around two foot wide ! Four big slabs of cheese -Stilton ,Brie and two Cheddars ?-with a side salad and lots of extras ( bean sprouts , strawberries , raspberries , blueberries etc ! My companions’ soup was gorgeous too .This is the best food I’ve had in 2023 and considering it was a hot ,sticky day the staff had their work cut out .I’d say their breakfasts must be awesome .A must visit !

Since moving away from Thirsk I visit 2/3 times a year. Breakfast here is/has always been something to look forward to. The last two times have been pretty bad, earlier in the year I complained that my sausage was tough. The waitress said they weren't cooked fresh and it may not even have been today's. Today's visit, I was beckoned to choose a table. And then ignored. No menu, no drink order. I was watching other people be shown to their tables, given menus and then asked what drinks they'd like. Yes - I could have got up and asked for service. Instead I went to another cafe in the square and that's what I'll be doing in the future. I can only assume its under new ownership.

The idea of the business is amazing, with a delicatessen downstairs and a cafe upstairs, really enjoyed the food it was nice to see that the salad had been dressed (playing to the foodie within me). Would totally recommend for people visiting Thirsk, but it is definitely a small cafe.

If you visit Thirsk this is the place to eat. People eat with their eyes and the presentation of the Sandwiches and sausage rolls makes you want to eat there. Loved it in there, pleasant staff, great food, a good sized tea for two, clean toilets and overall best place in Thirsk.
