Excellent coffee, consistently made to perfection. The milk is always steamed to perfection too. Friendly staff and tasty food offerings. My number 1 for coffee in Sheffield!

El café es perfecto. No tengo quejas sobre la calidad. He estado varias veces al alza y tuve buenas experiencias, pero esta vez será la última. Recientemente, sin gluten, pensé que ese lugar tendría una variedad de opciones. Cuando pregunté acerca de sin gluten, simplemente dijeron que no y fueron bastante despectivos. Me quedé y tomé una copa, que para 3+ era un café de mal sabor. Sentí que, dado que el área de labranza había cambiado, había poco ambiente allí y los letreros hechos a mano y la escritura en el menú de la pared se veían pobres y descuidados.

Tuve un almuerzo encantador en este agradable café: el rollo de salchichas caseras fue lo más destacado de nuestra comida con el remolino de canela en un segundo cercano ¡Volveremos por más! !

My experience at Upshot was a pleasure from start to finish. Upon arrival my friend and I experienced a very warm welcome with the staff keen to tell us all about their menu items and answer any questions we had about ingredients. We both had one of their beautiful cheese toasties and I had a very refreshing iced chai latte which I'm told they make over night for maximum flavour. We took some macaroons away for the road which were beautiful and home made. Super impressive. Will be back!

I have often come here with my daughter to enjoy a brunch together. Would highly recommend the pancakes. Lovely cafe with friendly staff and good prices.

Very handy for the Hallamshire, nice cup of coffee and free customer wifi. Very friendly service as well. Definitely worth it.

Went on Saturday afternoon to Upshots other venture called: ELM at 167-169 GIBRALTAR STREET, SHEFFIELD, S3 8UA The coffee is ok, but not brilliant given the amount they charge. They are served in small mugs and I feel that they are expensive for the amount you get which is meager. I found the cheese toastie I ordered very expensive for what I got . It was a cheese an onion one with a little bit of onion and some small gherkins costing £7!! My boyfriend had a margarita pizza as he wanted a pizza but found that there was limited choice on the board. I feel that this place is very much style over substance and the prices are expensive for what they serve you. I've been to better places where they server you decent sized portions for less and give you large cups of coffee.

We had breakfast. Tea, coffee, waffle, avocado toast with egg and bacon £19. Quality was good and service friendly. Decor minimalist, chairs uncomfortable and table wobbly. Lots of man buns, lumberjack beards and laptops on show.

I was told to go there to taste a cinnamon bun. Wasn't bad but not enough cinnamon for the big fan that I am. I went there around 4pm and I think the cinnamon bun would have been better earlier in the day. I may come back

Came here for brunch with a couple of friends. I had the vegan waffles with dark chocolate and banana and it was amazing. Finding such good rich vegan brunch isn't easy but this place smashed it. The deco and atmosphere were lovely and could have happily sat in there all day

I liked the atmosphere in this place. It is clearly passionate about coffee but rather than being achingly trendy it had a relaxed feel. The staff were friendly and it seems a very popular venue, in a great location right near the University of Sheffield.

Visiting the hospital and wanting something other than hospital food or a long walk into town and was recommended this cafe. Fabulous little place, lovely decor, great coffee, wonderful cakes and simple good breakfast/lunch options. Small but perfectly formed. Will visit again.

Popped in for a quick lunch after a hospital appointment with our son...greeted by a really friendly lady behind counter, smiley and happy for us to bring our disabled son in in his pushchair... Lots of students but we didn’t feel intimidated being a family of 3. Really quick service and lovely food and coffee...couldn’t resist taking away a cinnamon bun and salted caramel brownie for journey home! The brownie is the best i’ve had! Look forward to our next visit :-)

In Sheffield for uni open day and had breakfast at Upshot. Delicious avocado and bacon on toast with excellent coffee. A real treat, would highly recommend.

Had breakfast here twice, the avocado sourdough is decent but I though the peanut butter and jam porridge was fantastic! It’s as good as how I’d make it myself. My colleague also said the coffee was great

Really nice coffee, lots of different blends etc. Our favourites are the cappuccinos and lates, the halloumi sandwich, the waffle with bacon and maple syrup is amazing and the salted caramel brownie! You’ll regret it if you don’t go in and try for yourself!

Lovely warm welcome from the barista. Coffee made to perfection on both visits today (I was in need of a good brew!) Latte was lovely and creamy. Americano had a good aroma and taste.

The coffee they serve here is really good and although the food selection is quite limited, you can’t go wrong with any of it. The banana cake is particularly tasty. Good selection of vegan options too.

Been here a couple of times now, it's alright. The coffee is good, menu is limited but nice enough. Didn't find the staff particularly friendly. Ordered coffee, she said 'aeropress or pour over'. I've no idea what this means so asked what's the difference and got daggers. Maybe I'm just not hipster enough, but then she didn't know either and had to get her bearded colleague to try and explain. Front seating area was full, so ended up sat in the back room underneath a boarded out window which was a little bit drafty. All in all, yeah it's nicer than a Costa or a Starbucks, but that people say it's the 'best in Sheffield' says more about Sheffield than it does about upshot, and I'd say it's second best to Tampa anyway.

Always in here as its my go to coffee spot in Sheffield. Love the staff (including and especially Margaret). Can't wait for the new one to open!!!

This coffee shop is just opposite the hospital. The staff are great -really welcoming and it has a nice atmosphere. The coffee is great - no standing around waiting for it, they make it with care and then bring it to you. Cakes are to die for - especially the salted caramel brownie. Lunch is also good - Avocado on sourdough is great as are poached eggs on sourdough, also reasonably priced - around £6. Vegetarian and vegan options.

I had been informed that upshot expresso served some of the best coffee in Sheffield and as a lover of the fermented bean I was keen to try. Lovely varied selection served in a nice location. Good food served from knowledgeable staff. A great experience and more importantly a great coffee ☕

Simple first class! Recommend Beef Smorrebrod, Banana Pecan and honey porridge. Matcha Lattes and Brownies. Cool vibe.

As is in the title, really moist and chocolatey, if you have a sweet tooth, you must try this. Service with a smile, very helpful and friendly when I couldn't decide between the salted caramel brownie and the peanut butter brownie. Will need to return to try some of the other treats :-) and having lunch here soon.

The proximity of this cafe to work makes it really handy for me when I have the time for a decent lunch break. When I visited they had only one coffee option which I tried as an espresso. It had a good flavour with a citrus hint but it leaned too far towards the acidic scale for my liking. Their sandwich and goodies options were good and I enjoyed their Halloumi cheese bun sandwich. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, I enjoyed my coffee and my sandwich and I will certainly visit again. The only drawback for me was the very loud music which I found irritating at times.

We'd heard good things about this place and called in for brunch. We were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and clearly enjoying being there and the food was delicious. Will definitely be back.

I visited upshot espresso for lunch today with a group of four, luckily there was a table available for us straight away.

There are lots of great independent coffee shops in sheffield but upshot is by far my favourite, coffee is always excellent and the staff friendly. Just wish they stayed open later for a post-work coffee

Arrived early, around 8:30 with my housemates for a Friday breakfast treat. Had the grilled cheese and a latte. Lovely breakfast in a great atmosphere. We sat for over an hour and didn't feel rushed to set back off out in the rain. Picked up a peanut butter chocolate brownie to go with my lunch and that was equally as tasty. Will be visiting again!

Needed a meeting place near the Hallamshire hospital. Found the Upshot Espresso online. Choice of coffees was excellent, all the cakes are homemade, service was great. Will definitely be back.

We come here regularly and always enjoy the coffee and a sandwich. The staff are always very friendly too. We came in December 2016 and everything was really good again. The only downside is the coffee is getting a bit more expensive and the sandwiches are often the same 3 choices. But maybe I should try the rest of the menu!

Been here for a coffee a couple of times and also had a light bite here. Friendly staff and great quality food/drink, although a tad on the pricey side. Also modern/very nice environment and love the dog. Staff also v friendly, would return.

I have just tried this coffeehouse for the first time and found the staff ( including the dog) very knowledgeable on the food and drinks and very friendly. I was at a very loose end because of my girlfriend going into hospital for a major operation so it was nice to come to a place where I could just take stock of what is happening and relax. The music was just right the coffee amazing and the staff from what I could see where very friendly and attentive. I am not sure what the food tasted like but from other customers faces and comments I heard it sounded very good.

Asked about their famous donuts (which really do look amazing) and was told (with a bit of eye rolling) that it was "too much of a ball ache - we only do them Friday's- have you ever even tried to make a donut?" And there's us trying to be complimentary after coming specifically for their donuts. No apology, no recommendation of what's good to try. Expensive. Smallest cups ever. If I wanted to sit in a student union and hear about student life (from staff not customers btw) I'd go to the SU bar. Cafe looks great, shame about the staff. Won't be going back.

I discovered Upshot whilst waiting for my Mother in law to have a check up at the Hallamshire hospital which is near by. I was exercising our dog ( Toffee) and fancied a coffee. I went into the cafe and was made very welcome as was Toffee. On our first visit I drank the coffee on the bench outside and the staff brought Toffee a bowl of water. Since then we have visited 3/4 times as check ups and minor operation have taken place. Each time the welcome has been great and the food very tasty whether it was a mid morning "browny" or lunch time meal with a good range of drinks. Now that the weather is colder we go inside where the atmosphere is congenial. Upshot is close to the student area so the clientele are unsurprisingly studious using their laptops presumably between lectures. The bonus is certainly the dog friendly welcome which is hard to find in Cities.

I came here for a late brunch at around 2pm. The atmosphere inside the cafe was really cool and relaxed. The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the service was very quick. The food itself was absolutely gorgeous, we had the pancakes and the ham hock with poached eggs - all freshly made and tasted delicious. I would definitely visit again!

I visited upshot on a day off for breakfast. I'm not a coffee drinker but came for the food based on what I'd seen on instagram and heard from friends.

Read about the place online and chanced upon it while walking from my hotel to the Sheffield university. Had a very delicious avocado toast and excellent latte . Love the unpretentiousness of the place. The friendly staff is a big plus.

Dropped in for a coffee after a poor drive into work. Could have sat in for hours. Good staff with just the right mix of friendliness and service. Quality of food and coffee was great. Bacon butty was like two gammon steaks . Very reminiscent of good Australian coffee bars, even had banana bread!!!! . More of these places please. Costa and Starbuck don't deserve your business people, this is how a coffee should be. Great work!!!!

Sooooooo goooooood, friendly staff and tasty food. If you are a coffee snob you need to get in there, I can't usually hold a conversation about beans in most places but these guys totally get it and care about it.

Upshot is such an all round pleaser. I've visited this cafe many times with different friends and family and every single time I get beautifully made coffee and excellent service. On one occasion I was soaking wet from the rain and even though they were closing very soon, they were happy to make me a coffee and provide me with the best piece of banana bread I've ever eaten (might even be better than my own!!). A quiet and lovely atmosphere with a great spacious layout. I can guarantee it won't be long before another visit to sample more of their great bakes and hot drinks.

First visit and won't be the last, friendly staff, not noisy even though it's on a main road, large choice of coffee and teas, with a good selection of cakes and pastries. Plenty to try on future visits

I believe Upshot do the very best coffee in the Sheffield area, if not Yorkshire! Although quite pricey I would suggest it is worth it. The food is almost as brilliant, especially the sandwiches which are unique and delicious - the kind of sandwiches you never want to end! The staff are always friendly and as student at Sheffield Uni I look forward to returning in September.

I visit Sheffield a lot and tend to always pop in for a coffee. I have always had a friendly experience with outstanding customer service. The menu is just right for a tea break and from my understanding, they always have different treats by the counter.

Went in with friends for brunch, very nice food although slightly expensive (still worth it in my opinion!) The only downside is that the menu is very limited.

The home to the best peanut brownie I've ever had. The staff are lovely and welcoming and, despite my unusually large legs struggling to fit under the small tables, the place is overall very comfy. Only not a five star due to the steep pricing.

I live locally and upshot is always my first choice if I'm meeting someone for a coffee or a bite to eat. The staff are lovely, it's got a really chilled atmosphere, the coffee is first class, and the food is really outstanding.

This was one of my first coffee shops I visited in Sheffield and I haven’t stopped going back. It is such a pleasant experience and the staff are always very friendly. They serve brilliant coffee and food plus have a variety of sweet treats that complement the coffee. They always do nice pours on the coffee and tend to produce coffee with beautiful crema.

Went in for a coffee, had a flat white, what a legend. Coffee was excellent, would have been the highlight of my visit... HOWEVER! The Halloumi roll was great. Highly recommend

Called basically to kill time before pending appointment at hospital opposite.First impressions was the wooden panel in broken entrance door needs to be fixed-We were greeted with friendliness as soon as we walked in.My husband chose the halloumi sandwhich which he enjoyed but was a bit awkward to eat and needed to de-construct it and use knife and fork I had the avocado and chilli on sourdough which was faultless-very tasty.We both had a pot of tea which held enough for 2 cups each.My gripe here is there was no white sugar only brown which does not go well with tea ( i know -i should give up the sugar! ).I loved the quirky mis-matched furniture and the background music was great.Toilets could do with the hot water being fixed-better than cold for washing away the old germs.We come to the hospital regularly and will definitely call again for a quick snack and try the coffees next time.All in all a very pleasant find in relaxing chilled out atmosphere.Also good reading material available.Get the white sugar in and see you soon.

I was really pleased. The Peanut Butter Brownie was fabulous. Really good mix of flavours, crunchyness and moist. Goes really well with the black coffee I had which was also tasty. Robust and rich. My hats down to the 2 chaps serving this day, they were friendly and quick. The place was pretty crowded for a 10am time. Worth stopping by.

I had time on my hands before it was time to pick someone up. They'd told me about this place and I thought let's give it a go.

Upshot Espresso is famous amongst University of Sheffield students as the hottest spot to grab a coffee on campus. The hype is justified I can assure you! The coffee has a very distinct taste and is so delicious, you'll never have a Starbucks again. The granola is my absolute favourite thing on their menu and I definitely recommend you try it - it even comes with soy milk for Vegans!

I love this place. It has become a ritual for me and my boyfriend (occasional friends as well). We have to walk half an hour uphill to get there but it's totally worth it! I usually have the matcha latte because its deliciously nutritious, not to mention Upshot Espresso is the only cafe I know of to have match lattes on offer! I also love the way they present their food, it's like art everytime. Obviously tastes great as well and the prices are too crazy (compare to marmaduke's for example). Definitely recommend this cafe to anyone, whether you want to go have some me-time whilst listening to some really chill music, or catch up with loved ones over great food.

Coffee is very good, not the usual fare and the bacon roll is quite possibly the best I have ever had. The owner was very apologetic about the lack of the usual toasted brioche, but in fact the brown seeded roll substitute was probably even better. "Bacon" doesn't do it justice - think two, 1cm think rashers of perfection! I've never had such succulent, tasty bacon.

One of the only places in Sheffield serving amazing food and coffee! I go very often and I have not been sodas pointed yet! The staff are also amazing and care so much about all of their produce! Go!!

When some say pretentious, I say handled with care. Every part of the service and food we received was the product of much attention and devotion.

Expensive, pretentious and mediocre coffee served in cups even the borrowers would deem small. Mixed customer service, ranging from polite and friendly, to arrogant and hairy (is it hygienic to have that much facial hair?). I much prefer supporting local, independent businesses however, the pricing and sizing of the coffee made me long for the Greggs which once existed next door.

Let's face it coffee shops are ten a penny in sheffield, but this little gem is one of the best I've ever been too, great strong coffee and a great choice of cake too, definatly worth the effort to seek out.

My hubby and I called in here for a coffee yesterday as we like to support independent coffee shops rather than the big name chains. I had a macchiato and my husband had a double espresso. Unfortunately both of our coffees tasted sour and to be charged 4.50 for two coffees isn't very realistic. I think they need to change their brand of coffee. Having said that, the cafe is bright clean and tidy shame about their coffee.

Delicious range of a espresso and filter (V60 and Aeropress) coffees, and home made sandwiches and cakes. All served by professional staff who know their stuff, with a passion for what they make.

We paid our first trip to Upshot this weekend and loved it. We enjoyed a really lovely brunch - gorgeous presentation, good value for money and yummy too. Coffee was fab and staff were friendly and welcoming. We'll be back!

very poor service, the guy took our order by a fancy ipad but he kept playing with his noise and he started to prepare our coffee! :( coffee tasted horrible, I think size of the mug was too small for americano anyway. We sit down on a dirty table and I noticed that other service guy he cleared the next table and wiped the table with his bare hands to get ride of the bread crumbs... 2 minute later he turned up with our food :( horrible. When we decided to leave the place, no body told a good bye or anything because one of them was dealing with the washing up and the other guys was also turned his back and dealth with something more important than customers... Fancy ipad, fancy credit card machine fancy coffee machine cheap tables from charity shops? And awful service, pretty bad coffee...

I like good coffee and the reviews of Upshot sounded promising. Certainly I couldn't fault the presentation- very pretty, very skilled - but what immediately went through my head was "it's quite small".

The coffee is great and well-made and that takes some time and is a good thing. Especially with an awful Starbucks just up the road. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I ordered a single origin coffee they had just run out of (a good thing - compare with *bucks) and got a discount on a different single origin coffee. Two things would make this place special rather than good.

Popped in today for coffee and bite to eat had a great coffee and ham and cheese sandwich and after my mrs had given birth she enjoyed the salted caramel choc brownie , if only their were more places like this in sheffield thank you guys

I've spent my afternoon in upshot espresso and felt a welcoming friendly atmosphere. I didn't know that coffee could taste so great, I could tell that the staff take full pride in their work. I would recommend a salted caramel brownie to complement your drink.

Called in here for breakfast and coffee. The coffee was excellent, the food could be better. Wanted to like this place, as its independent and original, right up my street. The choices were limited; fair enough, two staff in a small kitchen. The avocado on toast was different, plentiful and tasty. The croissant wasn't very warm and didn't seem particularly fresh. But nicely presented with butter and jam in a little dish and no problem with the speed of service, which other reviewers seemed to take issue with (and every table was occupied). The furniture is mismatched which I generally like, but quite uncomfortable. But the staff were friendly enough. This place is okay but could be brilliant.

Just when I was thinking that I would never find decent coffee in Sheffield I was recommended this place. Coffee is just amazing (and pastries are quite good as well).

We went there few weeks back for a family breakfast. I must say presentation of the food was superb. We ordered various things of the menu; most of the foods were good.

this place does great coffee but the brunch experience is sadly lacking.On the Saturday we visited the staff struggled to remember a simple order and seemed somewhat disinterested when the order was chased. The menu was well meaning but sadly the execution wasn't up to the promise ..it had the hallmarks of a good home cook who has tried to turn a hobby into a business and was struggling to cope ..perhaps less is more

Outstandingly good quality coffee. Good food carefully prepared and presented. Lovely cakes and sandwiches. Very friendly and chatty staff who clearly love their coffee and know about it too. Has a great buzz about it most days.

I'm not really one for coffee, but if their coffee's half as good as their brownies, I *wish* I was into coffee (from the conversations I overheard, these guys know their stuff). Then I'd have even more of an excuse to spend time people watching from one of the window benches as well.

I popped in for a take away coffe. Although there was no queue at all and cafe quiet i waited for ages. After standing there for 10 mins when I was the only person ordering (reason i went I for quick take away) I was very firmly and rudely told that it was busy! Really? Very rude person told me he has only only person of hands. Rude staff, the other spent the whole time counting out coins for the till. Seems like customers bit if a nuisance, coffee nit very nice and cold! Give it a miss.

Small but perfectly-formed cafe, and just perfect if you're looking for a light lunch near the Royal Hallam hospital.. The place was pretty full when we arrived and most of the rolls had already gone. One of us had cauliflower soup which was delicately flavoured with curry notes and melted cheese on bread: quirky but tasty; the other had a pastrami roll which had a chilli pepper that provided a pleasant heat and v tasty too. The chocolate and peanut butter brownie was just delicious without the usual staleness you get in most caffs. Nice coffee. At £17 it was a relatively high price but worth it for the sheer quality of the food alone

Great breakfast here- loved the addition of stewed apple alongside our sausages and eggs. The sandwiches are very tasty (though a little bread heavy) and the coffee and cakes are very indulgent. You can just smell when you walk in that it's really good quality coffee. A lovely addition to Sheffield and very glad it's not a chain.

This store has a great atmosphere with talented staff well versed in coffee. Drink a handcrafted coffee or buy artisan beans to use later. Upshot will not disappoint. A refreshing antidote to awful mass produced miserable drinks and food.

We found this coffee shop by chance on the occasion of an appointment at the nearby Royal Hallamshire Hospital a few months ago. We returned this morning for a quick coffee before another appointment at the hospital but could not resist the brownies on the counter. Both coffee and cakes were excellent. A few hour later I returned to buy a couple of sandwiches to take away for lunch. These too were excellent. The cafe is not cheap but it is certainly a question of paying for quality. In summary, the coffee and food were first class with service to match. The ambiance is relaxed and it is a place to go back to.

I often go here to do a bit of reading. The coffee, tea and food are all great. The teas especially are really good, and they even offer to do extra infusions, so you really get what you pay for. The food is delicious, especially on Saturday mornings. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Definitely recommended. It's a shame they don't stay open later!

Dropped off at the hospital accross the road and found mysdlf outside this coffee shop. It looked welcoming and quite busy. Not knowing what to order i asked for a recomendation from the staff and they suggested a flat white. Good choice.

Came here with friends for a late Saturday morning brunch. First impressions favourable - great décor/atmosphere, and welcoming staff. Ordered a bacon brunch from the small but interesting menu (could have chosen any of them, they all sounded superb!), which at first maybe seemed bit pricey. Need n't have worried though - turned out to be a fantastic meal. Rashers of quality bacon with perfectly cooked eggs on a large slice of white bloomer, combined with spinach and caramelised apples. Absolutely superb! Combined with a perfect long black coffee it made for a great brunch. Everyone else's meals were of a similar high standard, with quality ingredients and inspired cooking. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff go to make this a great place that I will definitely return to when next in the area.
