The Grind Cafe in Sheffield

Great cafe. Lovely food and coffee. Highly recommend the sausage rolls (when not all sold out!). Always friendly workers there.

We stopped by the Kelham Island branch for brunch on a Sunday. We took a free table outside in the sunshine and went inside to order. Service was super friendly and prompt, both of our dishes were delicious (my friend had pancakes which were HUGE) and I opted for the BLT - I brought my own gluten free bagel as I wanted bread (there were other GF options) and they kindly toasted it without cross-contamination and added plenty of bacon, lettuce and tomato chutney :) Coffee was hot and delicious. I will be back!

I was so happy to find this cool enough place to buy two nice hot Americanos and two pieces of Grandma Apple Pie to take away for Sunday breakfast.

Booked on line as over to see son. Got there only to be told there is no booking system. Staff pretty clueless. Told we could wait 45 mins and maybe be given a table. Absolute waste of time.

Great atmosphere and great food with lots of windows at this place. It’s a lovely café to go to specially on a sunny day good selection of food and breakfast. Warm and welcoming service and the food is served very quickly. It is very tasty and done perfect.

I've been here a few times over the past few years and I do like it but there are a few weird notes. Ironically for a place called the Grind, salt and pepper are pre-ground dust in shakers which is not lovely. The food is pretty good and a good selection but I ordered rostis today which were a little flabby, not at all cruspy and seemed like they were made with mashed rather than grated potato. The dish was tasty too and the side salad garnish not an afterthought

It's absolutely ridiculous. Food is amazing. Staff are lovely too. Wish more cafes like this existed, it's awesome.

Lovely, friendly service and relaxed atmosphere. Good food and super coffee. The kiwi and lime cake was very nice and the quiche and salads looked good but we just met for a family breakfast. Would happily go again.

Food was lovely but unfortunately I was charged twice. The first time I asked for it not to be on a tab so I paid £30 upfront. Then after buying a cake I was charged on a tab for the meal and cake so I was charged £37.(Which I realised when I got home) It's been impossible to get in touch, phone number doesn't work, Facebook account has been ignoring me and no email to be found. I can't just pop round to the cafe as I don't live in Sheffield so I'm really very disappointed in the customer service. I would still recommend and will go back for the food just be careful when you pay here so you're not paying twice.

Best coffee we have had in the UK so far! For breakfast my partner and I ordered poached eggs on sourdough toast - the meal was delicious with a tasty salad garnishing and eggs sprinkled with dill and chives. I have been put off sourdough toast before as the crust can be tough when toasted, but this sourdough was perfectly done. We’re from New Zealand and find good coffee and brunch places hard to come by here, but this was top notch.

Poor. You made me feel invisible. I stood by the counter for 5 minutes while 3 of you were too busy to even acknowledge me while I was waiting (I wasn’t expecting you to stop, just notice that I was there. And I was there because although you had said you would come to the table you didn’t, I waited there for 10 minutes first). I asked for my coffee twice, then left after an hour and twenty minutes without having had it. It really wasn’t that busy, the food arrived quickly once ordered! The food was ok, nothing special. Sourdough very thin slice, salmon bland, avocado minimal. Probably won’t bother going again which is a shame as it’s a nice atmosphere and I would like to support local (Broomhill) business.

The service was good - very quick and offered drinks/menus upon arrival. The interior was lovely and it seems like a nice spot within Kelham. However, the coffees were cold even though we were served them straight away. I don’t mind paying good money for good food but on this occasion it was not worth it. The full English was average, and yet again cold. The flavoured fried eggs (do not not recommend) were not what I thought they would be - could be my mistake. But nobody wants a pan of oil for their breakfast. We also tried the pancakes as the pictures online looked divine, however, these were also disappointing - the pictures do not reflect well on what is provided, and I wouldn’t order them again. Overall, a lovely place but wouldn’t visit again or recommend. The pictures do look lovely but not worth £40 and leaving disappointed.

The coffee and cake were exceptional, truly delightful. However, the service left much to be desired. Despite being the only customers at the time, the staff were more interested in chatting among themselves. We had to approach the counter and wait for them to finish their conversation before they acknowledged us and took our order. Adding to the frustration, other customers who arrived later were promptly served at their tables. Improved attentiveness and customer service would enhance the overall experience.

Went out for a long lunch with former work colleagues and bumped into 3 x SWFC footballers and as a fan that really made my day. The food was great as was the friendly service and really nice atmosphere in the cafe.

Discovered this café by chance. Great service. Lovely setting near old Kelham and great coffee and cakes. If we are visiting Sheffield again we will definitely stop again. All the best!

Says they have vegan options but there were absolutely none when I went at lunchtime on a Thursday. There’s plenty of other cafes in the nearby area that cater to everyone.

Wife and I were in the area and popped into the place by chance. We had a delicious couple of sandwiches which were great. The rest of the menu, cakes etc. all looked fantastic, fresh and of very high quality! Will definitely go back to sample what else the place has to offer. Thanks so much :)

Fantastic atmosphere, we didn't want to leave. The food was amazing nearly all of it looks home made. The staff are very friendly. The look of the place and the music is superb. Wouldn't hesitate to come again!

Had a lovely cup of tea in this cafe in a smart area of Sheffield. The only problem was parking. After 15-20 minutes driving round, I finally found a spot about 10 minutes walk away from the cafe.

5 stars for the doggy service area

Review of Broomhill branch. Positives. Friendly staff. Efficient service. Nice atmosphere. Great coffee. Had an all day breakfast and a Turkish scrambled egg dish. The breakfast had good home made baked beans and a couple of rashers of quality bacon. Fried egg was fine. The sausages were insipid looking ( was worried they weren’t cooked but were hot ) the mushrooms were dry and the tomatoes tasted / looked like had been warmed by putting in a microwave or blanched in boiling water. Black pudding was tasteless. Sourdough toast was nice. The scrambled eggs weren’t the best - greasy and over cooked but tasty enough. Overall ok - but wouldn’t rush back for food and at price point (£12.95 and £9.95) expected better.

Is nice. The mixed salad is a nice change to other places, where you choose three. Limited/same old vegan options outside of it, a sausage butty or breakfast meal (though there's some nice looking menu items thay may be able to be made to suit diets) but for the price the salad beats them hands down and you can pick from a bunch of flavoursome stuff

Would have loved to have lunch here but the waiter gave away a free table of 2 that I had asked about him clearing to a party of 3 then suggested I sit in the chairs in the window. I was dining solo but the chairs were uncomfortable, couldn't sit facing my plate as there was no room, had to sit side saddle. No respect for solo customer, obviously wanted to seat a party even though I had asked about the free table first.

Came in this morning for brunch as we have been wanting to try it first off they helped us with a baby chair then took our order the food came very quickly we asked for a few specific things e.g no black pudding and it came with black pudding we set it aside and enjoyed our food which was amazing after eating our food we decided to order a cake to share the lady that was serving us brought out the wrong cake and looked at us as if it was our fault. Even though the food was amazing it was ridiculously expensive the price of a meal out for just pancakes and a full breakfast is crazy won't be going back.

The coffee is ok, the cakes aren’t the best though. It’s a cute enough cafe with all the trappings of a good instagram post, but that’s kind of it. Did feel a tad overpriced given what the service was like. Didn’t have any of the food, perhaps that’s better.

This place seems to always busy and bustling - and no wonder. Great value for money and always an interesting range of food to choose from

Very mediocre breakfasts with an extremely uninterested waitress. Not one person asked us if our food was OK……would not recommend.

It was a really nice place for breakfast and lunch. Chai latte and americano good. Food: The Turkish eggs dish was amazing, highly recommended. Pancakes good too, but I wish I'd had the syrup separately to add the amount I wanted, but out of that it was perfect. Waitress and personel always kind and serving

We came for brunch and the food was very tasty. The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming and the coffee was great. Slightly irrelevant point, but I absolutely loved the ceramics used for the coffee and food plates too. ❤️

Busy coffee and breakfast stop in Kelham Island. Staff very attentive, food decent, coffee could be better.

I’ve been here on different occasions and tried different things from the menu. First of all, the food is absolutely delightful. Every time we had food here we were amazed by the mixture of flavors the food has and how well they go with each other. Secondly, the service is very nice, patient and always helpful. Usually it seems busy especially during mornings when we barely found seats inside, which obviously shows the place is really good. Always a pleasure being here.

Great cafe with a lovely decor, view, plenty of seating (both outdoors and indoors), quiet corners and friendly staff. Unfortunately when I went, the kitchen was closed so I could only try their coffee and cakes. Had the cappuccino and marmalade pudding. Coffee was good but the pudding was a bit hard. Overall, a great place!

Went for lunch. Been here a few times but oh dear it’s dropped. Mac n Cheese showed no sign of any cheese at all.. just Mac.(yuk). No pepper on table, picked one up off another table… empty, next table, empty. Coffee didn’t turn up had to ask again.. wasn’t busy. Won’t be back👎

Nice place, good seating indoors and outdoors. Good brunch options but nothing outstanding. Vegetarian breakfast is fine but not my favourite- picture attached. Lovely branded mugs and saucers, coffee was good but not exceptional

I loved the atmosphere here, it cozy and a good place to read a book or work on your laptop. They offer a student discount. Flat white is so good

Great café hidden away from Sheffield City Centre but close to two celebrated pubs. Toasted sourdough with scrambled eggs was excellent, eggs cooked to perfection. Seriously good coffee, in a different league to the High Street chains. Will definitely be returning.

The food here is always excellent. However, on a Sunday morning, if Grind doesn’t want customers who swear never to come again, it either has to manage the number of people it attempts to serve or sort out its service. I waited an hour and a half for breakfast, surrounded by angry people who were waiting for similar times. Time after time people were given the wrong dishes or things were missing (including mine) which caused a further backlog. Even getting a coffee was next to impossible. I was told there was a coffee ‘backlog’ but other would-be diners saw no-one near the coffee machine and no coffee was served to anybody for around 15 minutes of our wait. I’m not coming back on a Sunday (which will make things easier) until this is sorted out.

Love visiting this place. Food and drinks quite reasonable.

Stunning breakfast with top quality produce, a little on the expensive side compared with others in the area but everything seemed to be made in the kitchen, we went on Sunday and it was lovely weather so it was nice to sit outside in the sun taking in the chilled out vibe the area has.

We began visiting The Grind, Broomhill when it first opened as close to office. The coffee is actually really good but yes, they do charge extra for speciality milk (which other popular coffee spots appear to have removed) However, it's the complete lack of customer service which really lets this place down. Sullen staff and lack lustre welcome every, single time you go in. Sorry to say, we've now found an alternative in Weston Park and shan't be returning...

I'm shocked I forgot to rate this place the first time, so here we are. Came for the first time with the in-laws for brunch, everyone was happy - pancakes for the child, salads for my mother in law and my father in law joined in with the Turkish breakfast that was amazing. Went today with a friend for lunch, good for her as she tries to avoid a lot of gluten so salad range great for her. Great value, lovely service, pleasant but simple decor. They have 3 branches of the Grind Cafe now, need to try them all but this definitely gets 5 stars.

First visit and last. They charge for soya milk (even Costa doesn’t do that) so my cappuccino cost £4. £4!!! For a pleasant but average coffee. Nice place to sit but won’t be going again - not to a place which penalises you for not being able to have dairy.

Firstly we arrived and were met with a surly waitress advising us that an indoor table would be a wait of 20 mins . We opted to sit outside but within minutes a table of 4 left so we popped back inside. We ordered and the signature granola and fruit was boring, dry and disappointing. We collected our own spoons as the service was diabolical. Not the best way to spend a Sunday morning, being treated with total indifference by a very “Marty’ ’ teenager. Simply not good enough.

Great brunch! Ferrero rocher pancakes delicious. Packed leftover and chef gave me extra ferrero rocher a. Coffee was not heated to my liking and staff swiftly replaced with fresh ones. Lovely friendly staff ..def going to go again soon!

We stayed at a hotel down the road and found this amazing place for breakfast. The food was delicious and huge portions. Coffee was really nice and service given with a friendly smile! Great selection, good for veggies and vegans. Highly recommend.

This must be the worst lunch I've ever had. I went with a friend and we were both disappointed and hungry when we left. We went to Domo gor desert. I had chicken with beetroot slaw and spices potato. My friend had quiche with beetroot slaw and potatoes I asked if I could have the potatoes warm and was told no they are served cold. The assistant came to our table 5 minutes later and said. I xan warm them. No thank you I've already started eating. The beetroot slaw was very chunky red cabbage red onions and tomatoes. No beetroot. I did mention it to the assistant who said yes there's beetroot In it. Not in ours. And chunky raw onions and cabbage not nice. Conclusion terrible first time and last. I've never paid to be hungry.

Kelham Island is a cool gentrified area of Sheffield filled with cool bars & cafes. This is the only one I've visited so far but boy what a first impression. Great breakfast menu, great coffee & lovely environment. Salads & cakes look amazing so I'm going to buy cake & take it home. The Gring full English is easily one of the best full English breakfasts I've ever had. Well done everyone at the grind.

Really lovely little cafe that was buzzing on a Saturday morning. Loads of staff serving, not too long a wait for drinks/food. Plenty of tables both inside and out and easy parking either in the street (if you’re lucky) or the very nearby car park. We had coffees, poached egg and avocado on sourdough and a sausage sandwich. Highly recommend!

Sat for brunch on a Sunday morning, not warned about any waiting time. Took 30 mins to even get 2 coffees and had to ask where they were, then another 30 minutes for food. Turkish breakfast nice but shakshuka bland and eggs over cooked, just tasted like tinned tomatoes. Wouldn’t normally complain about food but to have waited for over an hour I was severely disappointed. Not helped by waiting staff wandering around aimlessly with no idea of who the food and drinks are for.
