The Penny Black in Sheffield

Encontré asqueroso cómo el gerente podía dejar a una chica joven en el bar todo el día sola mientras estaba claramente enferma y embarazada, incluso cuando estaba ocupada, la chica joven estaba tratando y haciendo todo lo posible para que todos fueran atendidos de manera oportuna, incluso cuando el gerente apareció, ni siquiera ayudó al pub estaba helado y no se permitió que se pusiera calefacción y no había rollos de papel higiénico en el baño de damas, que era muy poco profesional. No es una experiencia feliz, pero no puedo culpar al personal por esa única gestión.

Very disappointed. Website says closes at 11 but turned up at 10.26 and bar had closed with some poor excuse that they weren't licenced past 10.30. There were 30 of us trailing in and this is a town centre pub. Not happy at all. Disgraceful

Entré a tomar una copa Soy un inspector de control de infecciones servicio era bueno, pero mirando a su alrededor y visto rayos desinfectantes para los baños en la barra para las mesas bruja es un no no. rollos de inodoro en el inodoro de las señoras pegado, un cliente jurando en el personal del bar y casera no hizo nada al respecto se sentó con el cliente bebiendo absolutamente asqueroso.

Ha pasado más de un año desde la última vez que estuve aquí pero elegí el lugar para reunirme con dos colegas entre trenes. La última vez que un fornido escocés genial era el gerente, aparentemente se ha ido y me dijeron que el pub tiene una nueva licencia. Dicho esto, el pub era básicamente el mismo - una amplia mezcla de clientes, una pinta de Stones es £ 1. 25 (brillante! ) y el personal del bar era amable y rápido. Si hubiera leído algunas de las reseñas de aquí, entonces habría organizado una reunión en otro lugar, pero parece que hay un tema corriendo a través de ellos (no tuve que esperar ''10 minutos'' para nada). Ni yo ni mis colegas tuvimos ningún problema y sugeriríamos que alguien tal vez tomara revisiones personales con una pizca de sal. Disfrutamos de nuestra visita - es sin duda mejor que algunos pubs que hemos visitado en nuestros viajes!

It loses a star because of it's "home fans only" policy. Mind they served our group both before and after the match. Overall, a good pub otherwise.

Sorry bout 3stars but had pint carling 4 pound wow ...pretty empty a 3 on a fri ...18 year old chav in doorway giving it large with girlfriend acting big with all his brass baubles haha.. four young lasses with a baby ..and that clientel . City pub sorry not my cup a tea even tho girl serving was loverly ...

Recently changed hands end of Oct 2024. The quality of beer has improved

We come from Belgium, and we ate there while waiting for our coach to London: very good fish and chips, the fish was very fresh, the curry sauce was succulent, all served kindly and simply, hospitable staff :) A pleasant surprise, with excellent value for money! We recommend, and we will come back! 😊

El personal es una vergüenza, entonces estoy seguro de que su nombre es estaba dentro y fuera de la parte de atrás, así que solo puedo asumir que él es la dirección y permite que su personal se emborrache mientras está en el turno de terry era su nombre. Este pub se ha ido muy cuesta abajo. Su trabajo es servir bebidas a los clientes, no beberlas. ¿Por qué el greeneking emplea a gente como esta?

Stopped in for some food before seeing my partner off on a coach. Friendly staff and genuinely much better burgers than we've had in many more expensive places.

Penny black hasn't really changed over the years

Got absolutely stranded in Sheffield due to trains. Teri and Mark who were on shift were so warm welcoming, friendly and accommodating if I’m ever in Sheffield I will definitely be back next time

They have a John Smith's option. And the pub is right next to the interchange - not for to walk for bus or train.

What a super pub this is or first time and was made to feel very welcome from the barmaid. And the owner plus the cutest dog lol .. the food was outstanding and the prices where spot on ..

Great pub with really good pints and a lovely atmosphere. The girl behind the bar (with the tats) was excellent. Very friendly and even remembered our order when we returned hours later. There are a lot of great pubs in Sheffield, and this is definitely up there.

Surprisingly good pub. We stopped in on a stag do as we passed it on the way to our hotel. Was expecting a bit of a rough pub, but the staff were excellent, beer was good and no problems with anyone inside. We called in a couple more times during the weekend

Came in for some breakfast on our break at work and it did not disappoint. A tasty breakfast that filled and fuelled me for the day for a great price.

Might not be the most glamorous of venues but top landlord and team. Always come here before we go for a rave - didn’t get guys name but Scottish guy always friendly and helpful and talks to all the customers making them feel welcome. Saw the guy helping a disabled man in and taking time to bring him in and they always open to just let people come in from the cold. Top place top man !

We were made to feel very welcome after booking a table for dinner prior to watching Cov. V Sheffield Wednesday . Plenty of TVs showing live sport. Really nice meal, which was reasonably priced. The staff were very attentive and friendly, which was a big plus for me. We came back after the football for a beer and a game of pool. Only slight negative was there was no real ale being served to my knowledge. Would definitely return again though.

A group of us arrived early into Sheffield and were looking for a pub that would be open. The Penny Black was open and a short walk from the station. The landlord and staff were friendly. The free jukebox and sky sports were a bonus too. Will visit again when in town for the football

We don't live in Sheffield, so Saturday was our first time here. Knew it was a Blades pub (non match day) so as we parked across the road. Thought we would go have a drink (or two!) Female waitress was very cheerful, pub lovely and warm and good atmosphere. Would defo come back! 👍

All round great place, never tried the food but definitely will be when I return as the meals looked and smelt amazing. Edit!! Back down from Scotland again, this time we have been in for food and I can honestly say it didn't disappoint had the hunters chicken was cooked to perfection 👌🏻 will be in again most of this week for our meals 🏘☂️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Very dated, typical green king, not spent a penny on the place by the looks of it for a long time.

Visited on a Wednesday lunchtime with company. Ordered food and manager came out to say there would be a slight delay. This wasn't a problem & it made a change to be informed (far better than sitting wondering where food was). When it came food was excellent. Had Fish & Chips and my wife had the Scampi. Both were great as was the size of the fish. It was all cooked freshly with the batter for the fish made fresh in the kitchen. Friendly atmosphere but surprised more people don't go for the food. Overall would highly recommend.

Popped in whilst waiting to check into the hotel nearby and so glad I did was fantastic place have a drink, wasn’t very busy and had a really good atmosphere and fairly cheep booze

Came in yesterday with friends (Sunday) we was reluctant to order food at first because the bar was so busy with food orders and poor young girl was on her own but we chanced it and the wait time wasn't long at all. Friends had Sunday beef that looked lovely and I had cheese potato pie and it was fantastic such good value for money. We never got to thank the chef but hats off to him food was beautiful. And thankyou to the polite lovely young lady behind the bar you made us feel so welcome. We have been told on several occasions to avoid this pub but I am so glad we didn't. We will be back for sure lovely staff great atmosphere 🙂

Amazing food at an amazing price. My dad’s a fussy man and he couldn’t stop complimenting the chef. Came for brunch before my graduation and the staff couldn’t stop congratulating me a lot. Great friendly atmosphere, would recommend. Has a pool table as well.

It's a warm friendly pub and reasonable prices. It's 3 minutes walk to the Bus station and a 7 minute walk to the Railway station. It's a good place to catch sports on TV. Almost opposite is Sheffield's oldest domestic building and it's also a pub, the Queen's head, the portrait on it's sign is that of Mary Queen of Scott's who was kept in Sheffield for 14.years before her execution. Today, Tuesday, there was a friendly bar lady and she had time for everyone who came to the bar and made everyone feel welcome

Recently stayed in Sheffield and this was the pub near the hotel. I was in Sheffield for 3 nights and went to the pub 3 days. Lovely local atmosphere where both staff and customer were friendly. The food was good pub grub and reasonably priced.

Popped in after a day visiting our daughter at the uni, we weren't sure what to make of it at first as it was a bit rough around the edges from the outside but we had a couple of hours to kill waiting for the coach so thought we'd give it a try. We only ordered drinks and deserts as we'd eaten previously but they arrived in good time and everyone enjoyed them. The prices were standard for Green King, staff were friendly and accommodating, the music (Saturday DJ night) was in full swing and enjoyable. Will definitely visit again when we come back up this way.

I use this place regularly for the football, it’s always a great atmosphere, with friendly staff. We’ve been meaning to try the food here as it’s always looked nice. Well yesterday while on our way to a concert we finally got a chance, how glad we are that we did, Jock & the staff put every effort into making their food. It’s a (locals) pub, but don’t let this put you off. You’re not going to get posh tablecloths, but what you are going to get is absolutely lovely food at very affordable prices. We will definitely be eating there again..

Bargain price beer and great atmosphere. Friendly locals. We were dressed in crazy rock gear as we were in town for Sleaze Rock Festival at academy where the beer was twice the price. Raised eyebrows with the regulars who were more interested in the footie on TV. Will visit again next time we are in town.

Perfect place for taxi drop off to wait outside for a coach....bus parking to easily get out of the bus terminal in Sheffield.

Didn't know what to think when we first came in, but was welcomed, sat down and had some smashing snap. Jock and the others were friendly, made sure everything was all good through the visit. Had a cracking time and if I'm back in the area, would definitely re-visit. Cheers guys!

Comfortable pub, great for watching sport with quite a few different seating areas and screens. Friendly manager but no real ale.

This little pub with grub is right outside the bus station. We popped in to have a cuppa and shelter from the rain, but the menu looked good, so we stayed. I can't recommend it enough. I had a burger, my son a steak and partner wanted gammon. As there wasn't any, he asked for bacon and was given a lion's share. All the food was excellent. The guy behind the bar and the chef were both very pleasant. 10/10.
