Recently went for lunch and had what was called Bouillabaisse must turned out to be a very poor imitation. The waiter/manager replied when asked about the serving replied "that's the way we do it". Well it isn't the way the did it a few weeks back. Not impressed really, and would be concerned about recommending in future.

First of all I must congratulate the staff, they seem to work all hours God gave, are run off their feet, and yet manage to be attentive, polite even ‘interested’ in you whilst taking orders and serving food and drink. Well done them. (A special mention here to Gabby, Nick and Evan, who all went that ‘extra mile’, well, they looked the five of us! And very well they did it too). The food is excellent, our daughter is a vegetarian/vegan, and they went out of their way to find things she liked and could eat. I do miss their old menu, together with a special bar menu, and one for vegans/vegetarians pre covid days, there was so much more choice, but understand completely the the necessity to make the choices a little more ‘compact. Sunday breakfast was really lovely. Little individual bottles of milk, lots of different marmalade, jams, honey, butter flora etc. The menu was vast and everything was cooked to perfection, compliments to the breakfast chef that morning.

Very poor service, had to wait 30 mins to be seated, then another 15 mins for a menu, after 25mins got our drinks then another hour before our food arrived. Quality very bland. Tried to speak to GM about service but he was too interested in eyeing up the ladies and commenting to the chef what he’d like to do to them. Worst restaurant I ever been too

We have eaten many many times here and this was our first time back after re opening.I usually have cheese soufflé as my starter it’s delicious. But apparently could not have this today as it is no longer gluten free I was never aware that cheese soufflé had gluten in it?So decided just to have my usual fish and chips this has always been a firm favourite of mine here. The batter was always gorgeous and light and fluffy, chips plentiful so much I usually have to leave some. Both my husband and myself could not believe what was presented to me. The tiniest very sparsely battered fish(absolutely no resemblance to what I’ve had before) a tiny few chips that were very overcooked you couldn’t even taste the potatoe. Tiny ramekin of peas which were cold. This looked like a child’s portion. The price had also gone up as well. I looked at a table next to us and three guests had fish and chips and the piece of fish was as big as the whole plate on each of them. You would have needed three of my pieces of fish to make it the same size..fish is gluten free so there is no reason for me not to have the same size fish as other diners. My husband had a crab salad all it was was a bowl of lettuce 1 potatoe chopped into chunks and what I would say breadcrumbs of crab that were barely visible this was truly shocking you seriously cannot present a guest with a bowl of lettuce and call it a salad and no dressing . We were so disappointed with our lunch we decided not to have any further drinks or dessert it really took the shine off our day. I did draw all of this to our lovely waitress and she said she would mention it all to the kitchen . They did tell her that the gluten free batter was lighter .so why can’t the same batter that used to be used on the fish, it was much nicer. She did reduce our bill but honestly £12 for a bowl of lettuce and barely visible crab crumbs is just not acceptable by any degree. Please try and get this resolved as I’m pretty sure you will lose many regular customers. I really wish I had taken some photos

I don't normally leave reviews when I've not actually experienced the full end to end process, but I feel compelled to do so on this occasion. I have also spoken to the General Manager today to get his view on my complaint beforehand, but nothing in that conversation has dissuaded me from leaving this review. It's our Silver Wedding Anniversary in June and we want to hold a small family meal (about a dozen) in nice surroundings. We emailed the SHH to enquire about availability. We have eaten here several times in the last year or so and been very pleased with the quality of food and service. We received a mail back to say there was availability and they needed to confirm details over the phone. Unfortunately, my wife missed that call and when she rang back she had to leave a message. The hotel called again but when my wife explained what she wanted to do, the caller said she couldn't do what was required and would ask someone else to call.No call was recieved so we chased and in response got a terse email to say there was no availability. So I'm left wondering, was there ever availability and we've actually been wasting our time in the last week (the GM thinks this is the case)? Or was there availability but it wasn't pencilled in for us so that whilst awaiting our details others have booked up the tables? In either case, I'm extremely disappointed in the hotel.I realise that it's a super busy time, we're just coming out of Lockdown 3, and the rules are changing again hopefully in mid June, but I've come away from this whole experience with a very bad taste in my mouth. If they were fully booked when we first enquired I would have totally understood, that's how reservations work after all.I definitely won't be frequenting the SHH again, and I'm highly unlikely to stay at another HH anytime soon (and you'll see from my other reviews I've been to three so far and enjoyed them). As my title says 'Oh dear' HH - how not to keep existing customers happy and returning year in and year out!

I took my mum here for dinner for her birthday having had lovely experiences in the past, however we were extremely disappointed. We were booked for 8pm but stood at the entrance until 8.20pm before anyone spoke to us and seated us. The restaurant was completely full with no space to allow for social distancing and we were seated les than a metre away from the people at the tables either side of us. They were clearly very short staffed, the two waiters and one waitress were rushing around trying to serve everyone but it was impossible for them to keep up. The restaurant manager was also doing her best and didn’t stop, but again there was just too much work to do and not enough staff. Our starters came out quickly but I sent mine back as my poached egg was stone cold, it was whisked away with no apology. A replacement came back hot but again no apology. We waited a long time for our main courses which were luke warm, however we were so hungry by this time that we ate them. When I got to the end of my chicken I realised that it was pink and not cooked properly, my mums was the same. There were just four items on the dessert menu and we were told that two of them were unavailable. We waited ages for the desserts we chose to arrive, they were nice but the fruit was clearly tinned and not fresh which is not what I’d expect when paying those prices. A lot of people were quite rightly complaining, however I feel that the problems lie higher up the chain and they need to sort out the staffing issues. The poor manager was dealing with some very rude angry customers, but she was only doing her best with the situation she was forced into. Judging by the quality of the food I assume that the kitchen was very short staffed also. I have been here many times in the past as I am local and it used to be great. Wonderful cocktails, happy and well trained staff, delicious food. I sincerely hope for the sake of the customers and the staff that it can return to its former glory.

We are very well at the Hotel with excellent service by friendly staff. The only thing that was not fantastic was the Vegetarian choices for the main meal. I was hoping for something more adventurous like a Vegetable Strudel or Pithvier than the usual Gloopy Curry or Risotto that seems to be the the preferred Veg option of many, many Hotels and Restaurants.

We stayed at the hotel for two nights. We have reviewed the hotel separately. Dinner in this restaurant was one of the worst we have experience in every sense. We were seated then ignored. When a waiter eventually took our order he freely and without prompting bad mouthed the barman (and later the kitchen). It took over half an hour to receive our drinks. We eventually asked the lady maitre’d and were then loudly told off for doing so by the waitress who brought them. At this point we considered leaving (and should have done).A starter of scallops with garlic butter had no garlic butter. A second starter of duck terrine was dry, with dry bread, and a relish sauce that was overpowered with garlic. A main of chicken with prawns and leeks came without leeks but the unwanted addition of mashed potato instead, and one prawn. A second main of cod on mashed potato was so small and badly plated it looked like a plate of leftovers. All around us other people were voicing similar issues. We left as soon as possible and ate elsewhere the second night.Breakfast on the first morning was an improvement, with a good fruit salad, Greek yoghurt and fruit compote. Eggs benedict were ok, but avocado on toast came without seasoning, or any of the chilli mentioned on the menu. Breakfast on the second day was not good. Fruit salad now seemed to comprise mostly of some large pieces of apple, and both the full English and Vegetarian hot breakfasts were served cold. Black pudding seemed to be cooked with the plastic wrapping left on. Coffee on both mornings was undrinkable. The only real positive about this restaurant is the setting which does have good views in the daytime. And the young waiter serving in the bar was excellent (albeit with rather poor drinks knowledge).

Harbour hotel for Sunday lunch. Cobwebs hanging from windows & floor in need of good clean, so not good start... welcome in restaurant dismal. Waited 45 minutes for the smallest scallop starter (£5 supplement) further 15 mins for roast pork with rind of fat not crackling and beef sent back as so overcooked it was laughable in a sad way! We really want this hotel restaurant to succeed, but after today’s poor attempt Sunday lunch is not recommended!

The surroundings in the dining room are very nice, and felt fairly safe, although they wanted to seat the four of us from two households at a very small table - we moved to a somewhat larger one. Service was slow and inefficient. The food was pretty average really, and, judging by the high prices, nowhere near as good as they think it is.I think they are getting away with all this because they have a ready market in their own hotel guests, and the competition in Sidmouth isn't strong.

It was our Wedding Anniversary and we booked dinner here for our celebration. The view is amazing and it was very relaxing sitting outside for pre-dinner drinks. The restaurant is very pleasant and we had a table by the window. Starters were fine, but they would have an issue with the Trade Descriptions Act for my main course. It was meant to be 'Slow cooked veal steak with a creamy tarragon sauce'. It was thin slices of veal in a brown mushroom sauce and a small amount of tarragon that was barely visible. My husband's Chicken & Prawns was as described but the prawns smelt and tasted off and had to be replaced. Eton Mess had other berries and not many stawberries, and no meringue. We mentioned to our waitress that it was our Anniversary and she didn't even wish us a 'Happy Anniversary', so nothing else was forthcoming. The bill came to £124 including 10% service that was added automatically.

Throughout our stay at the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel we ate in their Upper Deck Restaurant for breakfast and dinner. It was a varied experience. The front of house staff were working extremely hard, but they appeared to lack organisation. We had pre-booked both breakfast and dinner times as the hotel requested us to so do as part of their COVID19 measures. The problem was that the information didn’t appear to have filtered through to the restaurant staff. Once seated our orders were taken without an unreasonable delay, but then the food service seemed to be chaotic. Sometimes our food came rather quickly and other times after a very long delay, the longest being nearly an hour. There was no sense that food was coming out of the kitchen in any order. Sometimes we were served well before others who had given their order well before us. At other times those who had arrived in the restaurant after us had nearly finished their meal before we received anything. The quality of the food at dinner was excellent and the menu varied, however the food was rarely hot, except’ that is, the soup. On our last night I ordered the “Cod and Crab”. The cod and mash were moderately warm, but not hot. The peas and butter sauce were stone cold! I must admit I didn’t complain because my wife already had her meal and the delay in rectifying the situation would have been intolerable. The presentation, also, was not up to the standard that would be expected from a quality hotel, but it was the breakfast that was the real nightmare. The breakfast was not of the same quality as dinner and the food was not appetising. The menu was good with a wide selection, however, I must say, I would have expected a fish option like smoked haddock or kippers. Service was extremely slow at whatever time we arrived, yet once again the serving staff appeared to be working flat out. Our worst experience was a morning when I ordered Eggs Royale and my wife, two soft boiled eggs and toast. We waited for nearly an hour. When the food came my Eggs Royale were cold and looked as though it had been just slapped on the plate with no thought to presentation. Even a little sprinkled parsley would have improved matters. One of my wife’s eggs was hard boiled and the other was nearly raw and inedible. The toast was fine, but a restaurant that cannot boil an egg has a problem! Our experience would have been even more intolerable than it was, but for Gabbie, one of the waitresses. As a result of my complaint about the breakfast mentioned above, she organised two glasses of sparkling wine at our evening meal, by way of an apology. In fact Gabbie was very attentive and helpful throughout our stay. That apart though, the restaurant has a problem that, if not addressed, will destroy the reputation carefully built up by the owners of the hotel’s previous manifestation, the Westcliff.

First visit and it will be our last. On arrival private car park not available. We were told to go across the road to a public car park costing £1 per hour with no attempt made to reimburse. We chose this afternoon as it was the last day of eat out to help out. Afternoon tea for one would normally cost £17.50 per person. We chose to have two so between three of us it came to £17.50. Thank goodness we didn't pay full price and chose only two have two not three.1. Crockery poor - cream pot not china.2. Sandwiches were on white bread with cheap filling with the exception of 2 smoked salmon sandwiches.3. Odd selection of confectionary for afternoon tea. No pastries or cakes. Square slabs of chocolate brownies, a chilled lemon dessert and a toffee sponge. Four scones with one red berry jam, not conserve, completed the miserable ensemble.4. No hot water with the pot of tea and no offer of refills for coffee or tea.5. One lager and one glass of wine £12.50.We expected to stay for at least 1 and 1/2 hours but we were happy to leave after 45 minutes. All in all a poor experience, service, food and ambience unsatisfactory - building work around the hotel grounds.Tip: Go to the Victoria Hotel down the road.

We are regulars who bring a lot of people here. We came today for drinks and the service was terrible. Very unfriendly, champagne was flat and without an apology the replacement was in a much smaller glass, the aperol spritz was extremely weak and when we asked for it to be a bit stronger it took 25 minutes to come back out and was even weaker then the first time! In the meantime all the other guests had finished their drinks. The cocktails were disappointing and in ugly glasses with so much ice that I couldn’t even taste anything! On leaving the manager asked if we had a good time and we said no and the response was ‘we are still learning’ yet we still had to pay the full non-learning prices. Staff/manager need to sort themselves out sharpish! Will not be returning and will not be recommending to all the locals where I live in the village nearby.

I would like to preface my comments by stating that during each of my previous visits to The Harbour the service was exemplary and everything was beautifully presented. In the bar, Victor and Ollie were professional and affable in the execution of their duties and it was a wonderful place to relax with friends. On Friday 28th August my visit was an abomination to what had gone before. The bar staff were surly and petulant. They may have been struggling with the situation that we all endure; however, at a time when the hospitality industry is ‘on its knees’, their performance was definitely under par and unacceptable. My friend was served a glass of champagne without even a hint of effervescence. Any barman worth his salt would have noticed and opened another bottle. My cocktail was weak; something deduced by colour and confirmed upon tasting it. I waited in excess of 20 minutes for a replacement which was even weaker than the first. The company line was; “We are still learning.” The ‘take it or leave it’ stance without apology is indicative of contempt for the clientele. Surely the prices should reflect the aforementioned ‘learning’.

This was an utter disappointment. I came here for my 21st birthday for afternoon tea and it was extremely poor - I would not recommend it to anyone. Having been to afternoon tea many times, I would NOT class this as afternoon tea. There were two of us and for £35 you get poor tiny sandwiches (2x ham, 2x cheese, 2x egg 2x salmon), a peculiar selection of sweets (2x chocolate brownie, sticky toffee pudding, and 2x lemon curd) and four scones. The sweets really let it down - I was expecting mini tarts, pastries and macarons. At no point were we asked what jam we would like for our scones or what bread we would like our sandwiches on (we were given white). Service was also poor. For afternoon tea you expect refills of tea and coffee - but at no point did anyone come over and ask if we would like more drinks. At the end we were asked if we enjoyed our meal, we said 'no' but instead of questions, we were met with silence.Afternoon tea is often a treat for people - and I worry that if they came here, at present, it would be a waste of their hard-earned money.

My daughter had arranged Afternoon Tea here on 21st August as a birthday surprise for me. There were 7 of us in total and it should have been wonderful with such a nice dining room and fabulous view. However the whole experience was extremely disappointing. We were seated promptly by one of the managers and our order taken but things then went down hill rapidly. The service was poor, no one explained what the selection of cakes and sandwiches were, we had to find staff to help. Again we had to ask for tea pots to be refilled once we could find a member of staff and at no time did anyone ask if everything was ok or if we needed anything. We had to chase for the bill and the final straw was to find a service charge had been added. When we queried this with the waiter, which we again had to find, he said it was optional and he would remove it which he did. However, we then asked to see a manager and was told that there was not one on site. At this point we gave up in the restaurant and left. At Reception on the way out I again asked to see the manager on duty and a helpful lady found one for me. He was the man who had shown us to our seats initially in the restaurant. He was apologetic but said as we had paid there was nothing he could do but would offer some of us a discount on our next visit. Felt this was very poor as he was fully aware we would not be visiting again with so may other places to chose and such poor service here. Very disappointing and spoilt my birthday as well as upsetting my daughter who had arranged it.

Visited for Afternoon Tea 1st week in August. Extremely disappointing. Our waiter was abrupt, rude and very unhelpful. Priced a £25 per person with champagne, this was not even worth £10! When we asked what tea was available, we were basically given a blank expression and told breakfast, earl grey or fruit. All tea bags, cups and saucers dumped on table looked like something out of Fred's Caff. Sandwiches were very poor. Not even a choice of bread. Wafer thin ham, slimy salmon, boring egg. Cakes, well!! 1 scone, jam and cream. a couple of pieces of brownie and ginger cake. That was not afternoon tea!!! So very very disappointing and not worth the money at all. The view was nice. End of. Will not be going back and will remove from our places to visit in Sidmouth list. A course in customer service may benefit a few unhelpful members of staff.

Re Covid 19, masks were worn by all staff and visitors were asked to wear them when walking around. Hand sanitiser on every dining table. We also got the ‘Eat out to help out’ promotion which was a bonus. Thank you Upper Deck we had a perfect evening.

Not a good experience but I am told its OK if you can get in.. Was a hot day and very busy but there was no notice at the gate to say fully booked or "don't come in". After a long climb up the steps and path to the hotel, we selected a table just outside the door of the restaurant. Waited 15 minutes and nobody came out at all to see us.Gave up. Another couple of our age had exactly the same experience.Comig away I almost fell down the steps from the restaurant terrace. They are very difficult to see where the actual step is because of the design of the steps themselves. I used the rail and it was OK but a bit nerve -wracking for someone with arthritis and poor vision. I don't recommend a casual visit at all.. yet strangely enough mu favourite hotel restaurant is the Harbour in Christchurch...very very good all round.Sidmouth Harbour..I SUGGEST A NOTICE AT THE GATE WHEN YOU CANNOT FIT ANYONE ELSE IN.ITS A LONG HARD CLIMB FOR THE LESS AGILE OLDER PEOPLE. We visited this charming restaurant after two years, and we had the similar impressions. The place has a beautiful view, and it is very suggestive, especially on the sunset. However, the staff lack in organisation and the first impression is that they are not professional. The service was slow, and the food was average, but the location absolutely worth it. We had our dinner outside, and it was very romantic, mostly because of the starry night. This is the right address if you do not mind the food, but you want to experience a glamorous night out.

I had lunch in the restaurant last week. The food was lovely, especially the cheese soufflé, but I was quite disturbed to find that although other COVID safety precautions were taken, the staff were not wearing any sort of face covering. I think the website mentions staff have regular temperature checks but this does not take into account that it is possible to have COVID but be asymptomatic and give it to others. This spoiled an otherwise enjoyable experience.

My mum, sister and I decided to have a spa day and lunch at this hotel, it hadn’t been recommended but we found it to be in between both of our locations so gave it a go. After not being so impressed with the spa we hoped the restaurant made up for this. They allowed me to take balloons and a cake for my sister, they placed birthday confetti on table and really made it so nice for the 3 of us. My sister came away feeling extra special, the staff sang happy birthday to her twice and the food was delicious. They even catered for myself (pregnant) by making a mocktail that wasn’t on the menu! The staff all smiles throughout and made us feel just as important as the other tables that had lots of customers on them. We will definitely be back to use the restaurant!!

Main course was fine but nothing special. Even though it was Sunday Iunch, the nut roast was bland and the accompanying vegetables uninspiring. The service was mixed and bordering on rude from one of the waiters. This place could be amazing. We will return to give it another go as the soufflé was the saviour.

I've seen the other reviews and this may have been an off day - but maybe not. The place and staff is not well managed. A crowded lunch time bar, and two bar staff serving one person . . . . .I mean, come on!Lunch quality varied - I'm told the chicken was excellent, as were desserts. However, the roast lamp was tough and dry (I suspect, carved early, left under the hot plate and gravy added just before serving). The other lamb eaters on my table agreed with this statement. We were attending a club dinner. The staff in the dining room were ill directed and not managed for efficiency (all staff were charming and helpful, though)I asked for plain ice cream as I didn't fancy anything on the Table d'hote menu. My ice cream was bog standard and nowhere near the quality of that served with other desserts.Maintenance - it has to be done. Does it have to be done (painting, and banging, nails/screws etc) at peak times of meals? If so - cordon the area off (it was in the middle of a customer busy area) and give the maintenance team a break! This is not a cheap hotel - far from it. With so much similar competition in Sidmouth, we'll not be back.

Visited Wednesday evening 19/02 for my sister in laws birthday. We all decided on the £27.50 three course set menu each. Starters arrived and were acceptable and enjoyed but when the mains were given to us I was dismayed. My wife had the lamb kofte served in a dry hot dog roll, accompanied by some salad leaves and a small tub of yogurt - nothing else! No vegetables - no other dressing or sauce, not even any tomatoes or cucumber. It was the sort of dish that your local cafe/snack bar would serve you for a couple of pounds. My sister in law had the vegetable wellington which was a very generous description. It was just a baked pastry vegetable slice with some mushroom sauce dribbled on top, but at least it was served with some vegetables. Both meals reminded me of something you would get from Icelands for a couple of quid, not quite what you expect from a restaurant. My fish and chips were acceptable - but how can you go wrong with that?Desserts were fine and enjoyed by all.Total cost with drinks of over £120.00 it would have been cheaper and better to go to the local chippy! Maybe it would be better to order from the a large carte menu for better dishes? The staff were very attentive and made us feel very welcome and the restaurant was not very busy.

Food let our visit down as food was cold and 2 of our group ordered items that we were later told was not on the menu so they were offered steaks which also wasn’t on the menu, desert would have been nice if the pastry wasn’t burnt and it came with whippy type cream rather than fresh whipped cream, we drove for over 2 hours to get there for our brothers birthday and the food really disappointed. Staff were great the very apologetic

Dreadful customer service at the bar for happy hour cocktails.Completely ignored by staff. Standing there whilst barman cashed up. Manager observed this but no recognition.Another barman at the coffee machine no acknowledgement. Will not be visiting again. Cocktails are not cheap but the service wasWhen I asked the waitress who eventually apologised for the wait if it was still happy hour she reluctantly said i'll check and looked at something on the till?Absolutely dreadful

I have been here for dinner, but on this occasion my son treated me to Sunday Lunch. It was a nice relaxed atmosphere with a pianist playing in the background. There was a choice of two or three courses, and we chose the three, all of which we enjoyed. The staff were attentive and helpful. We then sat for awhile in the lounge where we had coffee to finish. I live in Sidmouth and my son is a visitor, so we shall be back again for Sunday lunch.

We have had 2 evening meals here. Both times the food was delicious, my favourite was the Hake in white wine sauce with crushed potatoes and my husbands favoirite was The Guinea Fowl. What makes this place great is the waiters and waitresses they are a credit to the hotel and the great view and decor. Would thoroughly recommend

This restaurant must boast one of the finest views overlooking Sidmouth. We visited for Sunday roast lunch as a treat for my husband who enjoys his food! The three courses were beautifully cooked and excellent value for money. The staff were courteous and helpful and made it a real experience for us. The dining room feels very luxurious and they have a pianist in the adjoining lounge area who adds to the atmosphere of elegance. They were also serving afternoon teas, with tiered cake stands crammed with cakes and dainty sandwiches but after our more than ample lunch, sadly we had to decline on this occasion.

We went to the Sidmouth Harbour Hotel this afternoon for my mum’s 60th birthday tea. The array of sandwiches, cakes and scones was super (the scones especially were deliciously fresh and warm), and it was lovely to be able to choose between prosecco, cocktails or gin with our tea for comparable prices — they even gave mum a complimentary glass of bubbly on honour of her birthday as well. We were impressed with the value for money; the service was fantastic (friendly, polite and attentive), the setting was stunning, and all round the afternoon was lovely.

My husband and I booked for the Thursday evening offer of steak for 2 with bottle of wine for £38. This was our first visit since the change of the restaurant to The Upper Deck Bar & Restaurant. We were very impressed - the attention to detail in the décor was fabulous, with high end fitting and fixtures -just like being on a beautiful liner. The views must be the best in Sidmouth! The staff were all very attentive, friendly and courteous. We were offered a choice of Peppercorn, Béarnaise or Bone Marrow sauce/gravy. Very tasty! The meal was perfect as was the wine. When we arrived at 7pm the restaurant was 1/3 full, by the time we left there wasn't a free table. The tables are close together but being so busy there was a real buzz about the restaurant. This sassy place to eat is just what Sidmouth needs. Thank you to the young, attentive waiter from Romania whose name I have forgotten but it began with a S. Apologies.

So basic and disappointing. Nothing exciting, just a few finger sandwiches, fruit scone (not very fresh) fairy cake with a small swirl of cream and a slice of rock road. At £26.00 per head very letdown and a special occasion ruined. Had better from Marks and Spencer. The champagne didn’t materialise until we had almost finished. Called in to the Harbour Hotel for lunch on the terrace. It was a beautiful day and there are wonderful views to be had from this hotel over Sidmouth to the sea. Unfortunately though there are no umbrellas at the tables. There were three that I could see, but one was taped up obviously no longer usable. The others had seen better days, looked slightly unsafe, large and unmovable and were dirty, ripped and unsteady. People were moving inside unable to bear the direct sun. Such a shame. Unacceptable and shoddy.

The hotel's restaurant was busy when we visited, so booking in advance is strongly advised. The restaurant enjoys an enviable outlook and our table for two looked out directly over Sidmouth's imposing red cliffs. In even warmer weather, it would doubtless be nice to sit outside on the terrace. Food quality excellent. We had been treated with a gift-card for a three-course Sunday lunch, including a bottle of house-wine. We are relatively unsophisticated wine-drinkers, but it seemed absolutely fine to us. Limited car-parking availability at the hotel at present, so choose the time of your visit with this in mind (we dined quite late).

My friend was staying with me for the Bank Holiday weekend (sorry my first attempt at writing this review failed!) he loved it too. We had the palma violet gin cocktail and a strawberry one, which were devine. We also were lucky to try a new one which reminded me of the taste of those twister shots (they were the shots of ice in a green and yellow tube you might have had as a child) wonderful! Staff were amazing as always, always attentive smiling and happy to help. I would name the new cocktail the raspberry twister as it is full of a fresh raspberry twister shots flavour. We returned recently to the Upper Deck for Sunday lunch. With the exception of one visit our experience at the SHH has always been excellent. I am pleased to say that this was also a very pleasurable event. All in our party opted for a three course selection, starters were fantastic and the cheese souffle is a firm favorite and didn't 'disappoint. We all selected various roast meat dishes and whilst these were hot and of good quality, they were not of the standard of the rest of the courses. Desserts were also extremely good and the Clementine Pannacota is outrageously good. Service was fantastic,in fact I cannot recall ever having had better. Staff were, warm attentive and clearly went above and beyond to ensure we enjoyed our experience. In all a wonderful experience which I hope to repeat in the very near future. And a huge thank you to SHH Customer Services for their professionalism and taking the time to respond positively to reviews.

This is a great store & café based on the outskirts of Ottery St Mary right next to the garden centre. The shop has lots of healthy options and local food, drink and crafts. There is good supply of fresh fruit & Veg, cheese, local eggs and a great selection of cakes & bread baked within store. After a god shop or look around head into the café for coffee & cake, sandwiches & their own quiches, they even do chips now! If visiting the garden centre or passing by on the A30 take a detour you will not be disappointed. Good food, good choice and great staff. We love it!

Breakfast was certainly an interesting experience. The incredibly friendly staff certainly had their own unique system of handling groups of over 4 people so you can imagine their delight when we arrived with a group of 20. Potential customers should be aware that you categorically must not order for yourself but through a middle party instead. If you try to order your own food or drink I suggest you speak to the responsible person in your party for them to relay your order to the very lovely rosey cheeked attendant at the till. In my case our responsible person was only 3 foot away from me but we made sure to follow the rules as to not cause an eruption of chaos in the kitchen. When I received my apple juice, I really admired its antique look. The sediment at the bottom and the out of date use by label really added to the chic worn vibe that this hip establishment embellishes by the bucket load. The cleaner is obviously very lucky and has had a long holiday, (possibly to another farm shop the costa del Sol). I say this as the building has acquired an impressive collection of cobwebs in their absence. Now the main event BREAKFAST!!! Everyone likes to start their day with a hearty meal, I feel the two members of staff whole heartedly agreed with me as they left a few extras in some of our food to make sure we didn’t go hungry. One fantastic long black hair that I’m sure is packed full of protein (looked like a moustache hair, but I’m not a barber). One no longer buzzing fly that gave my crispy bacon that extra crunch. I also stayed hydrated through the water that was served to me from a designer tea pot that had amazing tea colouring and stains within in. Once I had consumed my meal I made sure to use the toilet facilities to rid my ablutions apart from the skid marks and the mixtures of cobwebs and urine the toilets were delightful. In all it was an unforgettable magical experience. Shamefully I am stuggling to give it 5 stars and there was a small chip in the plate my breakfast was served on. 4 stars.

This was our first visit to Lyme Regis and after having a little look around we were all getting a little hungry so we decided to stop off at Jane's Cafe on the parade. There were five of us and we all shared two boxes of cheesy chips together, I can't comment on the drinks that the others had but the cheesy chips were very nice. Good position sizes although could have been a little bigger but the chips were nice and there was plenty of grated cheese on top - I expect it would have been even better if it was melted slightly! There were plenty of places to sit and eat with nice views over the beach. The only negative comment from a family member was that the staff were a little slow serving the drinks but the food was ready pretty quickly and it was hot which was the main thing! A good little place to stop for a quick drink and something to eat.....
