Lovely decor and atmosphere as is expected for castle rising area, had a lovely cuppa and why the brownie wasn't anything good or something I recommend (in this case thr toffee crispy brownie), the aforementioned atmosphere makes up for this . Prices are reasonable.

Came here for a roast dinner after so many recommendations from friends and family and it really was one of the best! Delicious, the meat (Lamb) was cooked to perfection and the variety of vegetables were just right. Gravy was so flavoursome. We’ve been here for breakfast recently which is also very good but the roast really was even nicer! Will definitely be visiting again soon. All the staff are very friendly especially Charlotte who is very welcoming and bubbly.

To be honest; it was an overall terrible experience. Not what I would have expected from the previous reviews and genuine expectation within a lovely area of West Norfolk. Went for a lunch with family for a birthday celebration and it was a disaster from start to finish. There was nowhere to park clearly and the signs did not make sense at all. There was nowhere for us to wait and order properly and we were always in the way of other diners and also staff. The staff were not helpful at all and we were placed in a very squashed corner of the room where there was 4 of us wanting lunch. When we were moved they moved us into a place where it was awkward to move in and out and also the table was wonky and the chairs were on their last legs. In regards to the food itself; honestly it was by far the worst meals we have had in a long time; 2 of us ordered the Sunday roast (pork) and 2 of us ordered Lasagna from the special board-which should have come with garlic bread but did not and they were substituted with chips; which was not a huge deal but communication of this change would have been appreciated. Alongside this; once we had ordered; we had the 2 specials come out within 10 minutes but then the roast dinners took a hour to come out! When we did get them the lasagna was not even a lasagna; rather a pasta bake; and the roast dinners had been overcooked, burnt and was not at all warm. The service in itself was extremely slow and we were only offered a free dessert for the hour wait which was unacceptable in my eyes. I really hate hating on local restaurants and cafes but I am beyond disappointed with this place; considering the amount of previous positive reviews and recommendations offered. Will not be coming back unless there is a serious over all of the entire cafe and food.

Very disappointed with jacket potato today ordered a plain one that was to be served with salad. With a coffee it was £11.90. The potato was microwaved up from pre cooked and tasted accordingly. The salad was just a garnish and no dressing was offered until requested. I can see very mixed reviews and think I agree that there’s room for improvement

Disgusting! Five of us arrived (including two hungry little girls aged eight and five) and we ordered food – nothing fancy, just sandwiches, chips, a salad and a jacket potato. We were told it would be 20 minutes, which was fine. Three-quarters of an hour later, with no sign of anything on the horizon, the lady who ordered went inside to be told our order had been (and I quote) ‘forgotten’. She was offered either a refund on the food (which was impractical, since the little girls were by now extremely hungry) or a promise of the food in ‘five minutes’ and complimentary drinks. We were forced to take the latter option, although it doesn’t take a genius to work out that the management would still profit from this arrangement, given that the drinks consisted of a can of John Smiths and two cans of pop, no doubt bought cheaply from a wholesaler. Ten minutes later, the food arrived. The chips were hard in the middle, and the salad (which cost over £14) consisted mainly of lettuce, with a few desultory prawns thrown in and bread, instead of the expected chips. The baked potato appeared to have been prepared in a crematorium. All in all, a classic example of a prime spot catering establishment taking advantage of a guaranteed clientele to rip people off and offer awful service. I’d add that most of our party were from New Zealand. What a wonderful impression of British hospitality – NOT!

We popped into the area rooms for a small lunch. The setting is beautiful and we sat in the garden that has a number of picnic tables and umbrellas, we had a dog which was warmly welcomed. We ordered a Brie and bacon sandwich which we hadn’t had before and it was absolutely lovely, it came with a side salad and crisps. We also had some cake which I believe is made on site, again it was lovely. I must say I’ve never been one for “Tea Rooms” but I would definitely return here. Food, staff, setting, welcome were all brilliant. Well done ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Humpand2 (55 reviews) Norwich, United Kingdom Very greasy breakfast. The plate was swimming in grease, the hash browns were not drained before serving, the eggs were overdone and hidden under a mass of baked beans, the sausages were deep fried. I had to pat my bacon on napkins to drain the grease off before I could eat it. A very expensive breakfast ( to eat 1 slice of bacon and a piece of toast ). I would not recommend!!

Got there, around 5 pm. Asked for directions prior but could hear a girl in the background asking what the **** was that about. Offered the full menu but at 10 minutes in the same girl appeared told me they were shut and tried to get me to box all of my meal up and drink my tea fast. Usually a really welcoming experience, whether with a group of friends or a family meal out. However there’s been a change of staff, and the lady now front of house on Saturday 23rd is in the wrong job. Absolutely zero customer service skills. Blatant rudeness. Order food, while paying, lady walked off. When drinks were brought to the table, creams were thrown down. All in all, a real dampener on what is usually a fantastic place to meet friends.

Terrible customer service, staff were rude and too busy standing around chatting with eachother loudly to serve people or prepare food and drink. People were waiting ages just for a cup of coffee. You can also see staff members eating their lunch in the kitchen at the same time as preparing food for customers, without wearing gloves or stopping to wash their hands before touching peoples food. Clearly not worrying about basic hygiene or the risk of cross contamination.

Popped in after our visit to the Castle. We were amazed at just how busy this tea rooms in a little village was on a very wet and dreary late October afternoon! Although busy , the staff were attentive and polite ,offering a couple of table options . It was explained that once we had made our choices from the menu ,we were to head up to order and pay … this is clearly written on the menus too ! Our lunch came to just over £20 and was fresh and delicious, the bread and filling of the sandwiches were good quality the latte excellent and pot of tea for one was plentiful and despite being a tea bag ( as opposed to leaves) in the pot it was a good strength . All told , we were glad we popped by!

We have visited this lovely tea rooms on many occasions and have been satisfied with the choice, quality and quantity of food served. However, today was rather disappointing. There was no specials board offering quiche, pie etc so we had to opt for sandwiches. The bread was lovely as always, but very little fillings - two rashes of bacon and the thinnest slithers of Brie - not worth anywhere near the £8.95 charged. The tomatoes and peppers on the salad garnish tasted like they were several days past their best. Definitely not the little gem it used to be.

The fruit scones were large and very tasty and the Victoria sandwich was also very nice. The food arrived quickly and the waitress’s smiling and polite. One thing I would suggest during staff training by management is that when food is delivered instead of the staff going back empty handed collect a few of the finished plates etc and this would make the garden far more attractive, clean and tidy.

Was visiting the area and came across this tea room . It is beautifully decorated and furnished and has a lovely feel about the place . As we have never been before we were unsure whether to take a seat or we had to be seated . There were staff at the till area , so we waited to catch someone’s eye . As others have commented on other posts , there is a feeling of being ignored as we were hoping that a member of staff would look up and ask if they could help but no one did , so eventually we asked for a table for two . We were advised to take a seat and come up and order . That’s absolutely fine but it would have been good if the staff milling around the till could look up and help customers who are unsure as to what should be done. Ordered tea and fruit scones but they had run out of fruit scones ( this seems to happen regularly as per previous posts ) so we had plain . Scones were very nice and huge , tea was ok but loose leaf would have been more authentic in a tea room . We did enjoy our visit and would come again and hopefully my comments will be treated as constructive.

First of all we were completely ignored when coming into the cafe, so we sat at the closest available table. 5 minutes or so, still no acknowledgement of our existence. Husband went to the counter to try and place our order, was again ignored for several minutes. Woman behind the counter finally looked up and glared at my husband but still didn't speak to him! He began giving our order and was told in a very harsh tone to wait whilst she wrote the order down.

Disappointed with today’s trip. The weather wasn’t great, so the place was particularly quiet. Which led me to expect good service.

Not the first time this has happened here but it will be the last as sadly we shall not be visiting again. Visited today for morning coffee and cake and went inside to ask if we could take our dog inside. I waited to ask the staff but was ignored and my wife twice tried to get their attention in the kitchen area but was also ignored as the occupants were more interested in carrying on a discussion about a meal - a T bone steak - they had eaten somewhere else. At this point we walked out and went next door to the Black Horse where the service was excellent and attentive.

My review is so bad that I am going to contact the venue directly. The last time I visited I thought may have been a one off; it wasn't!! On a pus point Vharlotte who worked there was extremely apologetic and do her best to be helpful.

This picture postcard tearoom should have been an ideal spot for a summer lunch. We decided to eat inside in one of the shabby chic furnished rooms. After having to order at the counter in another part of the building we ended up waiting quite a llong time. This should have meant that the food would be freshly cooked. The sausages in the sausage sandwich were luke warm and over cooked - dry and tough as if pre-baked. The promised home made marmalade was barely visible if present at all. We could not see any. The bread, described as locally baked, was dry and industrial even if it had not travelled far. The sole redeeming feature was the little bit of salad which was fresh and tasty. What should have been a tranquil place was further mared by some staff communicating with each other by raising their voices to a disturbing level.

I've over this place since I moved here 9 years ago. It's always been brilliant value & quality. Prices have just been put up a ridiculous amount & the cream tea is cheaper if you buy the items individually. Someone obviously can't use a calculator.

This is the first time I’ve set foot in the tea rooms , what a lovely little place ! The ready of our group had the full English breakfast which was freshly cooked and hot, I had eaten so didn’t partake. The only thing I would say is put the toast on a side plate ! No room for it with the hearty breakfast. The decor is great , staff polite and friendly and all ingredients look to be great quality.

Called in on a dry but cold winters day after visiting the nearby castle. Had our 4-legged friend with us so had to sit outside in the garden. Service wasn't the warmest but was efficient. We had a soy latte, hot chocolate and slice of cake. The latte was too hot but the hot chocolate and cake were lovely. If sitting outside you need to pay upfront, for obvious reasons. Clean outside toilet.

I have been here three times over the course of three years and every time I’m hopeful that things will get better and I’ve just caught them on a ‘bad’ day. Alas, this isn’t true. I’ve vowed to myself that I will never go back here again. Every time I go the food is shocking. The scone I had today - and previously - was rock hard and consisted mostly of glacier cherries. The staff were nice, but inexperienced. The food is reasonably priced but terrible quality. A low-rent cafe masquerading as quaint tea rooms. Don’t do it, you’ll regret it.

We’ve had several meals here in the past but today was our first Sunday lunch. We all had beef...excellent! Everything was nice and hot - 2 generously large homemade Yorkshire puddings, proper roast potatoes, leeks, broccoli and carrot and 2 decent sized slices of beef. The gravy was tasty and the horseradish pleasantly hot!

Visited this quaint cafe for a tea and cake. The cakes are amazing and good value. The place itself is a very like an old fashioned style tea room but offes so much more. We saw the roasts being seved and they looked amazing and looking at what peopleleft, nothing, they must alsobe very tasty. The staff are very friendly and helpful and overall an very enjoyable experience that I recommend that if you ae inthe area topay a visit. It may also be worth phoning ahead if you have a large group to ensure they are able to accommodate you all together. Great food great atmosphere great place

Delightful cottage environment with real food, no short cuts, soppy cut bread - our sandwiches were to die for. Won't spoil the surprise of finding the delicious fillings available (we couldn't choose between two so went halves on each) and such good service. In summer the garden is great for outside eating in sunshine in a real country garden.

Dan and his staff always make every visit fun and welcoming, and the food is incredible. My parents Alan and Norma are a regular fixture there with good reason.

Very good value and lovely food and hot drinks. The main reason for my score was the friendliness of the proprietor. She made us so welcome and helped my mother with her mobility issues. We noticed there were several “ regulars “ who were also well looked after.
