I really wanted to leave a review for the White Horse Bakery, but couldn't. OK, we ate in the restaurant one evening and had a great meal - superb. They had a fantastic seeded sourdough with a starter that was so good we came back the next day to buy a whole loaf from the bakery. Getting home, the seeded sourdough from the bakery was over done and crust ridiculously hard. So very disappointing and not sure why there was such a difference from the restaurant to the bakery purchase.

Visited 2 years ago, similar weather and school holidays and the garden area and bar was packed with people eating. Today the garden and bar was practically empty but the restaurant was full. The once, very good pub menu, is now a fine dining, very expensive and limited menu. Side dishes need to be added to all mains, making a burger and a very few chips £19, with the burger being sold on a side plate and no salad dressing It's a warm Saturday evening and I would expect the bar to be busy and not empty. In my opinion something cannot be right. We don't expect to return.

Currently sat now waiting for a takeaway coffee. Quite underwhelmed to be honest! No pastries left whatsoever, this is at 1.05pm. I can’t comment on the coffee as I’m still waiting for it. Woman making the sandwiches seems incredibly fed up, place full of people taking pictures of the lovely furniture. It just feels a bit forced and all about the ££££. Updated - coffee arrived and is still impressive! Just a shame about the vibes inside.

The menu was way to complicated. And not very big. Why would you order a sausage then have to order chips as a side if you want anything more than just a sausage on a plate. Overall very disappointed.

We visited as two couples for dinner on a busy Friday evening. We had visited pre-renovation but this was our first time since the major refurbishment The first impressions were very good and the menu promised much. However, the rest of the evening was disappointing Staff were distant and distracted. The food was disappointing - over done to the extent that one meal had to be returned, the rest were not great. In conclusion, this was an evening of high expectation which failed to satisfy.

We’ve been coming here for year’s and years as my wife’s Nan lived in Holme. The pub has always been charming but the new refurbishment is genuinely lovely. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area and don’t forget to check out the new bakery they’ve incorporated which is a great idea.

First visit post refurbishment. Gardens are lovely and make a fabulous place to sit and enjoy a drink. I’m sure bakery is a great addition, bread is amazing and breakfast good value. However the menu is not what you expect from a local country pub. Food was nice but not usual ‘pub grub’ . Visited on first night and had planned to revisit Siri g our stay but decided against due to menu restrictions.

Enjoyed a really special long lunch with friends and our dogs today at The White Horse, Holme. We'd walked from Old Hunstanton up the windy beach so were not looking our best but the lovely staff didn't bat an eyelid. They really deserve some credit, most were probably only in their early twenties but the customer service was excellent and they were friendly, efficient and genuinely interested to make our experience the best it could be. The food was incredible, cheese croquettes, potted shrimps, goats cheese and beetroot salad - delicious starters - alongside a main of hazelnut gnocchi with Binham Blue cheese to share in the middle - gorgeous. Then fantastic sandwiches from the bakery on fresh focaccia - just perfect - coronation chicken, Copy's Farm cheese and apple chutney, thick cut ham and cornichon. Desserts weren't planned but after experiencing the savoury savoury selection they just couldn't be resisted - melt in the mouth chocolate bread and butter pudding, sticky toffee pud and more Binham Blue with homemade crackers and apple jelly. Irish coffees and chocolate truffles were both incredible too. We then visited the bakery to take lots of wonderful things home with us. The setting and items on offer are all really excellent. The lady serving us, not so much, she seemed in a hurry for us to choose and leave which was a shame because she wouldn't have had to try hard to upsell to us, we were very much in a happy place after the stunning lunch. Her attitude was at odds with the wonderful staff in the pub and I do hope she was just having an off day. Yes, as others have said, overall it's a fairly expensive place to eat. But frankly we didn't begrudge a penny because it was such exceptional food and equally exceptional customer service. Well done for creating a fabulous pub, we will be back!

We had heard good things about the new bakery and so visited Sunday morning. We were not disappointed. The interior is an old barn with lovely exposed brick and a real homely feel. The pastries on offer were amazing and so fresh. There were some really interesting hot breakfast items but we chose a cheese and ham filled croissants which were delicious with a generous amount of local cheese and butcher quality ham, a seasonal pastry and a cinnamon bun. All were a good size, fresh and all baked on site. We ended up buying some seeded sourdough bread to take home as it look so good- and it was!!! Can't wait to go back and try their sandwich selection as there were some really interesting combinations on the menu. The highlight had to be the beautiful gardens in which we sat to enjoy our breakfast with a small play area for my son to enjoy too. What an amazing way to spend a lazy Sunday morning in the sun. Also looked at the pub menu and really interesting sharing plates on there- so we will be back. Thank you to the smiley staff who added to the experience especially Will who I think is manager.

The cafe is a wonderful spot for a light lunch especially in the sunshine. Ample seating in the shade or sunshine. Filled up on a very enjoyable smoked salmon & egg on focaccia. Coffee was great. Didn't partake in the pastries but they look delicious. Cafe sells bread too. Take away available. Lunch menu is short (sandwiches and pastries only) but I'm sure they'll expand in time. If you fancy something more substantial pop next door to the pub. Service was friendly and helpful.

Staff were really polite and friendly and my wife and I were seen too within 5 minutes of taking our seats, we both had the Roast Beef Sunday roast with all the trimmings and the food was amazing, good size and really tasty. What can I say? We had an early evening meal , and it felt like the staff were hovering, making you feel like you should hurry. The menu was strange and expensive it looks like you have to pay heavy for extras that other places put on your plate as standard. No wonder the fish and chips ran out early ! , even this wasn't that tasty. then my mistake was that I didn't notice that a service charge was included , it would be nice to be given the choice, not a place to revisit.

Beautiful food at the White Horse and dog friendly! We visited mid-week at lunchtime and ordered the king prawns and the pork t-bone both of which were incredible. Sides are ordered separately which can be standard, but can be quite expensive for a meal. Our mains plus 2 sides, wine and 2 half pints was £80 which is a bit spenny for lunch but a nice treat. I marked food as a 4 star as even though it’s incredible the menu is missing a lighter lunch option to go alongside the smaller plate starts but would recommend and would definitely return - probably in the evening.

Recently refurbished to a high standard. New beer garden, car park and new menus that look like they will change fairly regularly. We didn’t stay to eat as didn’t fancy anything on the menu, had to ask for Clarification as menu a tad confusing. Two choices of vegetarian 🌱 🙌 No longer serving pub grub.😏 Would appear it’s more of an affluent holiday maker establishment now. New bakery/coffee shop onsite, looks very popular, big Q’s so get there early. Family & dog friendly. Will go back in a quieter period to try the bakery out when next in the area, but off our radar now for lunch C’ est la vie ☺️ Recommend booking 👍 and if your looking for a quiet spot this isn’t it 👧👶🐕🐩

Absolutely lovely pub 👌 We have been coming here for years. Last year (2024), we visited just as the new owners had completed their renovation and launched their new menu. We were not disappointed. Came back this April (2025), and it was equally good. Will be back again for sure. Had the oysters, the fish and chips (huge portion!), and a burger with a side order of fries. Everything was delicious. There is a very good range of wines, beers, lagers, and spirits. The staff are friendly and helpful. The place is recently renovated, so everything is looking nice. While we were there this time, they were completing the construction of a coffee hut and bakery (in the adjoining barns) - I am certain this will be very popular. Dogs are welcome. We will be back for sure 😀

Regular visitors to this beautiful restaurant. Visited the bakery for the first time as it opened. The building is absolutely stunning. We came for the famous sourdough we’ve been hearing about. We ordered pretty much one of everything. The pastries were too greasy. My mouth was in a film of grease and butter. The sourdough has got to be the worst I have ever seen and tasted. The ciabatta was ok. The French stick was so gummy you could barely bite into it. I am an avid sourdough lover. I have travelled all over the country experiencing different breads/sourdoughs etc. I hope this was just a first opening blip. There are far better from other local bakeries. I was really disappointed. Nice coffee and staff. Bread and pastries need some serious improving if you want to attract people who enjoy this kind of food.

I don’t usually write a review but felt it necessary on this occasion. I have been to this pub many times and before it changed hands it was great value for money however today was very different. The menu is very unclear on what the meal comes with or as. So you pay full price for the main item such as a cheeseburger then to make it a proper meal you have to pay £4.00 for chips and £4.00 for a salad so it’s over £20 for a very small average meal. Never ever have I been to pub in Norfolk and sides is extra on a main pub dinner. Greedy and a rip off! Won’t be going back! New ownership won’t last long at this rate.

Have visited the White Horse several times with my family and past experiences have been great. That was unfortunately not the case this evening and I believe this is due to new ownership. I ordered the burger for £12.50, there was no clear description on the menu as to what came in or with it and it turns out it is simply a standard burger slapped on a plate and sides such as a handful of chips (£3.80) and a small bowl of salad leaves (£3.80) need ordering as extras (so £20+ for a mediocre meal overall). This is not an evening meal, rather something you could easily get from a food van at the roadside. I feel totally ripped off by the White Horse; having to pay for additional ‘side’ orders in order to get a half decent filling meal is something I have never come across in a pub/restaurant setting and is an insult to paying customers. Please consider your guests going forward and how much you are charging for what is essentially a ‘build-your-own’ basic meal.

I took my mum to the White Horse Pub last night with my sister for Mothers Day. The experience was great. Staff were friendly and the food was lovely as well as the cocktails we ordered. A particular highlight for me was the fact that they gifted my mum a Lily plant in a small pot as a small token of appreciation for Mothering Sunday. It’s the small things that go noticed. (I am sure other Mothers would have loved this thought too). We are local so will visit again for drinks and food. We had an evening meal in the restaurant at the weekend which was rather disappointing. The food was good but the level of service was very poor unfortunately. At +£50 per head for the evening, it was bit much that we had to go to the bar from restaurant to get drinks and even the bill - to top it off, I noticed the restaurant staff were sat having a drink together with 3/4 tables still finishing their meals.. A recommendation for us so we booked for lunch on our last day staying in Heacham. And so glad we did act in the recommendation. Lots of the furbishment happening outside and I imagine in the summer it would be great and a real sun trap . More though about our visit friendly staff and just the right amount of attentiveness. Reading the new menu it was obvious everything is carefully put together and lots of lovely choices. My hubby had the BBQ mackerel to start I had the Crab crumpets - both just amazing. We then both went for the mussels as a main and a side of fries (which we did not really need) the size of the portions was large with focaccia on the side- mussels perfectly cooked. With a rum and wine to accompany the bill came to £80 - you def get what you pay for here- we felt special and enjoyed our meal so much it was delicious. I like they do a lunch time special too. I asked my wife where she would like to go for New Year’s Eve…. and she said the White Horse in Holme… so we jumped in the car from our home in Central London and drove the 3 hours to Norfolk… and after a lovely walk on the beach… had a fantastic dinner at the White Horse… and the drove 3 hours home to London in time for the New Year fireworks!! That’s how much we love this place!! I had the BBQ Mackerel to start, my wife the BBQ Courgette - both amazing. For mains we both ordered the lamb chops, which are incredible! Dessert I had the Trifle - a must for the Festive Season - and my wife the gelato ice cream. As I was driving I was on the Cokes, but my wife had a couple of lovely glasses of the Provence Rose. Top marks for food and drink. Ambience is even better - this has always been a cozy pub, but the recent makeover has made it classy, but without losing its charm. What is special, though, are the staff - everyone is polite, professional and has personality. Top marks all round. We had our dog with us, and she was well looked after with treats (and neighbouring dogs to smell and frolic with!) We will be back - especially when we are in Norfolk...!!

A little disappointed as a 3 to be swayed on a table for 2, so it was tight especially when the side plates came out with the mains. All of the food was very good. We had the bbq mackerel to start as well as the cod cheek scampi. Mains were the halibut which was very good though too much sauce and the pork with sides of cheese mash (son’s favourite), fries, broccoli and the spelt. The spelt was a little underwhelming and an extremely small portion. We had a bottle of the Malbec which was good and fairly priced we felt. The staff were welcoming and the only fault we found, which was not the pub’s fault, was with the room which was incredibly echoey and as we had a number of very loud tables near us, it made for a bit of a fight sometimes to talk. We would have stayed longer if we had been more comfortable.

We are fortunate to live in Holme, and absolutely love The White Horse following its purchase and refurbishment by Anglian Country Inns. The bar is warm and friendly under the watchful eyes of Simon and Taylor. We had a lovely Sunday roast recently. A warm welcome even though we arrived early. The short frequently changing menu indicates a good kitchen brigade that knows what it's doing. We enjoyed King's Lynn shrimps in a glorious butter. The Sandringham mutton chops were just what you think of, thin perfectly cooked and succulent. Needing some greens, the tender stem broccoli with chopped walnuts answered the requirement. Followed, when the first two courses had settled a bit, with a tirramasu of great quality. No need for an excuse to visit, if you pass close, eat and enjoy. If a full lunch is too much, look at the sandwich list, beautifully served and satisfying, to judge by a neighbouring table. All the pub standards are on the menu, but do go for something a bit more exciting. A new and large carpark is within 15 m of the door and access is good for all, though the loos are up a couple of steps in the main building, a fully accessible facility is in a building just across the yard.

Guess what we noticed... No staff mentioned this but no walnuts... So we pointed this out and were told yes they'd run out of them!!! We came to have lunch here but felt ignored at the bar while one of the staff chatted to another customer, and then when another woman came behind the bar she took my order without any acknowledgement or friendliness. I asked for menus but she rang up the drinks without asking if I wanted to open a tab (maybe they don't do that in case you run off!). It was probably for the best as, after looking at the menu and not feeling welcome we decided to go elsewhere and spend our money. Shame about the experience but the garden is nice.

We've visited this place on many occasions when we've dropped into Hunstanton and surrounding places alike, and weve always enjoyed it here. We were very surprised at the make over they've had outside, really has made the place better. On the flip side, service was a bit slow on the bar side of things. Only one person on the bar and the queue was nearly out the front door. Bar tender didn't know how to do an aperol spritz, so we waited until some who did know to serve us. I had a pint of Amstel, wasn't the coldest in fairness. We were restricted to sandwiches, food wise, after 2.30, so we gave it a miss, but thats all you get if you order one...Just a sandwich, no garnish, no side salad etc, just that. Which I feel can be improved on...and they're £10+! Great outdoor area for the kids. Little bit disappointed this time but I'd visit again because we like this little gem.

We ate here as a family of 6. The pub was very busy & our waitress was very hassled. The food was a huge disappointment to all, the plaice when the head was removed was swimming in blood, the pork chop gave me chronic indigestion. Very disappointing evening, will definitely not be returning.

A very nice pub. We are going to eat but 2 of our party are vegetarian and there wasn't much for them to order. Great for drinks though.

Unfortunately another pub that has gone down the trendy route to appeal to the tourists not the locals, food very expensive not that you get much, you have to order extra dishes to make a meal, drinks expensive too, pint of Guinness £6.50, I’ve had better pub meals for less than half the price, a case of style over substance, very few proper pubs left in this part of Norfolk now.

Lovely country pub, recently renovated with an excellent pub garden and nice play area for kids. Great food and reasonable prices. Fire pit and petanque are really nice additions too!

we went to this pub/resturant for the first time whilst travelling the coast road and fancied something to eat. Fortunatley we were lucky to get a table outside as it was busy but it didnt feel overly busy. Staff friendly and polite and the food was a very high standard without the inflated prices. In a nutshell my wife and two daughters both loved it and so we went again 2 days later having booked the restuarant and it was again exceptional. highly recommend and will defiantley be returning

Dogs friendly, their open area is spacious and it is very nice to enjoy the food under the sun. Sandwiches are delicious!

Really sad to see this place has changed hands, have been looking forward to going back to my favourite restaurant for months now as not local and have now decided not to go. Having 2 older children, eating out as a family of 4 can be expensive. The honest home cooked menu, portions and pricing were a rare and welcome thing in this area and we never had a bad meal. Loved this place so much. Sadly this is no more and the menu now looks to be in the same zone as many other expensive gastro pubs in the area. Really disappointing. Rating based on menu only (choices and price) in comparison to how it used to be as have not visited in its current incarnation.

Lovely little village pub. Very busy but expected on a Sunday afternoon with the sun out. Great for families with a play area and lawn games. Food was very tasty, everyone enjoyed it, including the kids. We had a mix of a Roast, sharing plates and kids menu items. Service was friendly but slightly lacking, asked for extra water on the table that didn't arrive, kids burgers were eaten before their chips arrived and asked for sauce which took a long while to arrive. Probably just due to the volume of customers, as all servers were lovely and friendly.

It's been Norfolkised so it's gone from a quaint pub to a busy, kids very friendly, bistro, but sometimes that's what you've got to do to survive.....

This hidden gem is just amazing, particularly for parents. Huge beer garden with a nice new play area. Beautiful old buildings tastefully refreshed. The food and service are exemplary with high quality local ingredients. The kids menu is unpretentious and expertly prepared. Everyone left satisfied and relaxed, no upset children and the bill was reasonable. Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed our meal at the White Horse at the weekend. There's a nice and varied menu. Interestingly the message on the menu is all about sharing so I think they are wanting it to a bit like tapas rather than individual meals for each person. But basically there are starters, main courses and desserts! Our meals were all well-presented, good quality and tasty. We got a warm welcome on arrival, and had super friendly service from all the staff, with a special mention for our waitress Elisa! Prices were pretty reasonable too. And despite being full, the restaurant was not at all noisy, because it's broken up into smaller areas. All round, a 5-star place to eat.

1st time here in ages only thing I can say is fantastic , seems like loads of work has gone in to the refurbishment and staffing and as for the food this restaurant can hold it’s head high along the coast because you can rival anyone else with the choice and standard of food .

Only had a drink , as the menu on their Web site wasn't the one given to us on our visit, so I couldn't have what I'd seen.

My neighbour and I visited on the off chance and discovered that it was "Curry Night" so one of us had the lamb and the other the prawn - both of which were very good. We then decided to have the cheese for dessert which was priced at £9 each. We were so shocked by the size of the portion (like 2 postage stamps) that we felt we had to raise it with the server. He was sympathetic and said that he would pass it up the line. We're local and we want the pub to do well. The outside modifications have been done really well - and the new garden area is particularly nice. However, the paltry serving of cheese has grated (forgive the pun). We joked afterwards that we should have had the cheeseburger (priced reasonably at £10) without the burger or the bread. At least we'd have got more cheese.

Wonderful place, extensive menu (including for vegans / vegetarians), great value for money, great portion sizes and wonderful food. Just wish it was closer than 300 miles away.

Firstly, the exterior looks fantastic - the refurbishment is excellent. However, our visit last night with friends was a huge disappointment. The service was slow and chaotic. I understand the pub has only recently opened, so I hope these are just teething problems that will improve over time. The food, on the other hand, was very disappointing. I have never had a burger served on a side plate before. It looked small and was the most underwhelming burger I’ve ever had, with just one small piece of lettuce and no side garnish. The burger alone was £13.50, and a modest portion of chips cost an additional £3.80. It was under seasoned and unimpressive. When we left, the general consensus was that it was all fur coat and no knickers. I really hope the reviews are read and taken to heart because the place has potential, but I won't be going back anytime soon.

Such a pretty venue especially of a night time! Food was ok, although did take a while despite not being overly busy. Unfortunately front of house staff seemed quite hostile / short with their answers to our whole group from arrival which didn’t make a pleasant atmosphere. Was hoping this may be a one off, but also over heard other diners being spoken to like this as-well, so I will not be rushing to return.

Greeted by 4 to 5 staring teenagers as we entered. Very weird to be sat with them in the small area as we couldn't go to the other area away from them as we had children , with no one else In there.. so it was very cosy with all the staff congregating.. very fussy about where we could sit , with our 10 and 12 year old. To many staff to warrant that many working in such a small environment. We felt we Interupted their staff chat instead of being made to feel welcome . Would of eaten but swiftly changed our minds . £3.50 for a takeaway black coffee is steep too.
