This place should not be on the Trip advisor site - it has been closed for years and is unlikely to reopen after a couple of changes of ownership. Shame because with a couple of million to spend this could be an acceptable private house Should have kept the bar from years back

Sorry to say cheerio to the Ullinish. Many happy memories of a great welcome from Pam, Brian and the team, and fantastic creative meals we will always remember. Thanks for always making us feel so welcome, and we were so grateful for very comfortable accommodation just a few steps away. Skye is losing an amazing asset.

Visited for a few nights, dinner and breakfast included. This was fine dining at its best, the food was exquisite, great selection of wines, friendly and attentive staff. Restaurant highly recommended. Hotel accommodation was ok, clean and comfortable, particularly the bed! Decor a bit chintzy, a good get away from it all location in a beautiful part of the world, views to die for.

Easiest to start with the good aspects: food: well cooked, if dated and uninspired menu. Comprehensive wine list. Adequate canapés, but both served in spoons, one china, one bent metal. Really? Do they believe that this is somehow sophisticated? For goodness sake just put the diced salmon on a bit of toast and serve it on a plate. Without a doilly. When did any decent restaurant last see a doilly? Decor a ghastly nightmare; we felt trapped in a 1974 soap opera - perhaps Fawlty Towers meets Hyacinth Bouquet, but without any humour. One single service - not a problem in itself - run in strict regimented sequence: we all received our next course in the same order, irrespective of the meal pace of the people at the table. Water was served in a large cheap jug that should have been allowed to die gracefully with the death of Woolworths. You know the sort: pouting the first glass means all the ice immediately falls out. Only on this occasion about a handful of diced cucumber fell out too. Why diced cucumber? Who knows. Basic schoolboy error: I chose the wine but the owner? Manager? Showed the bottle to my husband. That hasn’t happened to me since the 1980’s. Whoever he was, he was graceless and unapologetic; shades of Basil Fawlty/ again, without the humour, sadly. Finally, a tiny pot of very weak coffee, served on a brown material doilly, with a milk jug on a small white doilly and a sugar bowl on another design of doilly. It would be too easy to observe that they are focussing on form over substance; the entire proposition needs to be hurled unceremoniously into a skip for a reboot. The final Insult was the bill: £162, way over what we paid at The Three Chimneys and Loch Bay (Michelin star) and both were 5 star in all aspects. E+ Really must try a lot harder.

GF booked us in for dinner on our last nite in Skye. First we got drenched @ the fairy pools, then retreated to the sligachan lodge cos we couldn't be bothered going home. The mist and rain set in when we left for Ullnish but managed to get there in time and change in car! Very formal vibe, canapes in the drawing room, then dinner- wasn't sure what to expect at this stage, but the rather simple looking menu turned out to be an explosion of gustatory delights, possibly the cheese was the only let down. Then it was back to the drawing for coffee before a 30 min drive thru the mist & rain back to the digs. Can't comment on the house, surrounds etc cos we couldn't see more than than 20 feet but the food was great, but do factor in the price!!!

Amazing dinner at the Lodge. The whole experience was a joy, with locally sourced, well presented and very tasty food. The service was excellent in an off the beaten track surrounding. Amazed to see a small number of negative reviews here, as this place is pretty much faultless in every regard. However when taking the time to read the universally ranting and exaggerated tone in each one of them there is a common theme that says more about the reviewer than the reviewed. Ignore them. It's sad that these few unkind and unjustified blemishes will sit on record for ever and slightly tarnish what should rightfully be a shining 5 star profile. The three AA rosettes are totally justified in terms of both quality of cuisine and exemplary service. The chef is truly excellent, and the delightful Maitre D' masters that difficult balance between comfortable informality and sheer professionalism. The 3 course Prix Fixe tabled d'hote menu might initially appear sparse and lacking choice, however what is not mentioned are the wonderfully fresh and imaginative little canapés, amuse bouche, pre-dessert and petit fours. Every morsel of every offering here has been chosen, prepared and presented with finesse and an evident passion for perfection. The attention to little details and the genuine care displayed by this small team puts Ullinish in a rare and well-deserved tier of prestigious restaurants. The little extra effort needed to reach this rather remote establishment is so very worthwhile. A seriously good and memorable dining experience in this perfect, peaceful location are complimented by the quality of the lovely old house. Decor throughout is nicely coordinated and of good quality appropriate to the building. The Ullinish restaurant is truly exemplary in every respect, fully deserving of its 3 rosette status and I cannot recommend them highly enough. We will definitely return.

I love the concept of having a short but quality menu! All products are locally sourced as you could expect from a restaurant of this nature. It was my first time in Skye and had heard only positive things about the island's cuisine. Therefore, I was looking forward to trying what Ullinish had to offer. The menu was tasty, but in the end, the whole experience did not hit that high note I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, the food was great, but the chef could have done a bit more to enhance those lovely flavours. Btw, loved the horseradish panna cotta and bread! A Little recommendation, the restaurant owners should work a bit on the decor to match the quality of the food and amazing scenery.

We stayed at Ullinish for two nights at the end of March. This is the second time we have stayed there and it was well worth going back to. We opted for a bedroom with en suite shower room which was much smaller than the room we had had on our previous visit but was just as comfortable in every way. The food was superb from the canapés in the lounge before dinner, dinner itself and breakfast the following morning on each day. Pam was extremely pleasant, friendly and helpful. We saw little of Brian as he was recovering from an arm injury until we were leaving and he apologised for not meeting us earlier on in our visit. The rest of the staff were super efficient and very friendly. It was my husband's birthday and Martin our waiter presented him him with a lovely small cake on a decorated plate complete with candle. Lovely touch and much appreciated. We will be back and would certainly not hesitate in recommending Ullinish.

We were fortunate enough to try several of the local restaurants on the island of Skye during our trip but the Dinner we enjoyed at Ullinish was by far the best. Unfortunately, we came here at the end of the trip rather than the beginning which meant that we couldn't go back but at least we left the best to last.Very fresh local ingredients served up in lovely combination of flavours and colour. Lots of culinary style and technique. There was clearly a great deal of thought and work put into every dish that arrived at our table. Seafood was simply sublime and so delicately done. There are some very good places to eat on Skye these days including the better known 3 Chimneys and Michelin star Kinloch Lodge. We also visited them but, this experience was superior in every way. Fabulous food from an impossibly young head chef and superb, attentive service from our waitresses Hayleigh and Zorka. Its a fairly small restaurant and it was full when we visited so, it's probably wise to callahead, to avoid disappointment, as its a bit out of the way.

We were told about this place by fellow Foodies at The 3 Chimneys, who were staying at this hotel. A little sceptical we checked a few reviews and it all sounded very positive.Reservations made, we headed off and eventually found it down a small road near the hamlet of Struan. Wood panelled and quiet. Smiley staff, know their stuff when it comes to explaining the dishes. Then they begin to arrive, gorgeously presented little plates of heaven. Each one original each one full of colorful, each one delicious. Outrageously tasty puddings. Then at the end our young chef comes round, smiley smiley, full of enthusiasm. We absolutely loved it. Thank you Ullinish

What an amazing change in this place since we were her last year. The food we had here last week was quite exceptional and undoubtedly Michelin star quality. Although the head chef looks like he could be one of the youngest in the country and his French assistant looks even younger, don't let that put you off. These young men have a rapidly growing reputation for producing some of the finest food on Skye Our seven course dinner had some really original and inventive dishes, not least of which was the Talisker Souffle and smoked ice cream.

Yum, absolutely delicious! I would be happy to leave it at that but there is a minimum character limit, so I will say more :)To begin, the restaurant is a lovely room, and the table linen was crisp and white, a very warm welcome and shown to our table straight away, excellent choice of drinks and the menu was brilliant. A couple of options, but this is a good thing in my opinion, everything was tempting and sounded delicious, which all of it was. An excellent dinner, great value for money with the extra courses and amuse bouche before starting the meal. Very friendly and efficient staff as well, and lovely of the chef to come out at the end of the meal and ask how everything was. A thoroughly enjoyable evening and highly recommended, well done Ullinish!

We were one of only three couples the night we went, all staying in the hotel. Dinner for all of us was 7:30 pm. At the Ullinish Country Lodge Restaurant, dinner begins with cocktails and canapes in the drawing room where you have a chance to review the menu and make some dinner and wine choices after which you are taken to the dining room. It is a bit of endearing formality.Dinner is a set menu with some choice for three of the courses. Excellent local product is beautifully prepared and artistically presented. The kitchen uses a courier service to collect seafood, fruit, veg and cheese from local producers on and near the Isle of Skye.It should be noted that the restaurant and the hotel are strictly for adults with no children under 16 allowed. But this is a place you should definitely seek out if you are on the Isle of Skye.

Wow, what a find! We had a "foodie" week in Scotland. Visited some really fine dining places - Rhubarb in Edinburgh, Kinloch Lodge in Skye and Rocpool in Inverness. All Michelin starred and recommended - however none of them could match the service, food quality and innovation served up by this young chef (Andrew Massey) at the Ullinish. Brilliant food and fantastic value for money - less than half the price of the others mentioned. The hotel is quirky and in a great setting with fantastic views out over the Cullin hills, Pam and Brian are wonderful hosts, full of local knowledge - perhaps some background music in the restaurant and drawing room might improve ambiance. The breakfasts were simply amazing and infinitely better than the other fine dining places we visited. We were delighted by our two days. This is a gem, visit it!

We were looking to have lunch at this, so-called, 'finest hotel and restaurant on Skye' before taking a walk to Ullinish Point. However, they don't do coffee or lunches. This would have been fine and we were about to go back to the car when a lady came out. She very brusquely asked 'Can I help you' We said that we were looking for lunch but had just seen the sign. She said 'No, we don't do lunch and we don't do children'. She then closed the door on us. Would not even think about going back if it was just myself and my husband as the attitude was very rude. From talking to a few people about our experience they said we'd had a lucky escape.

This is hands down the best restaurant that my partner and I dined at during almost 3 weeks in the UK ... including time in London and Edinburgh!! This chef is brilliant, calculated, exploratory, and precise. Him and his team (servers included) executed breakfast brightly and dinner to DIE for. Give this man some awards, he truly deserves them. Rhubarb crumble soufflé which frankly made me crumble ... get lost in his flavours, textures ... and for once in the UK meat that wasn't overcooked!! Quick note, the wine list is FANTASTIC as well, harbouring great value from around the world with vintage selections that are a perfect compliment to the refined cuisine.

This restaurant ( with rooms) is the ultimate in gourmet dining. The evening meals are the best I have ever tasted during a three nights stay. Try partridge, quail, seafood, salmon, monkfish, trout, all freshly cooked with pre appetisers, sorbets and all served discretely and with panache by lovely waitresses. What an experience to fine done for three hours! Lounge wonderful where canapés are served before the meal and coffee afterwards. Even in the rooms above, attention to detail is first class. A flagon of sherry, bottles of still and sparkling water, a flask with fresh milk and every toiletry you would need in the bathroom - even towelling robes. Set in a very peaceful location. With a lone eagle hunting in the moors and feral sheep and goats. Recommended as the best I have ever had - and I am a world traveller!

The meals begin with an appetiser in the lounge (a mouthful of flavour), then after a spectacular amuse bouche into dinner properly. Meals are a full of flavour and texture and blend these together into mouthfuls which explode with taste. Don't forget the breads either, they are scrummy. Breakfasts are pretty good as well.

I went to Ullinish Lodge yesterday (Easter Sunday) fully intending to avail myself of their offer of afternoon tea for non-residents. Although the property itself is nothing to write home about, the view are tremendous and I was thinking of booking myself and some friends in for a stay in the not-too-distant future. However, we arrived at 2.30 and the front door was locked. Whilst we were ringing the service bell we saw the notice telling us that afternoon tea was not served until 3.00pm; when the door was answered we were apologetic and said we would wait until 3.00pm. The man who answered was completely uninterested in whether we stayed or not and attempted to close (and presumably lock) the door again. As it was our intention to wait for tea to be served I asked if I could use their toilets to which he replied ‘We don’t have facilities that are open to the public and we have just cleaned our toilets!’ He then pulled the door shut hard, wrenching it out of my hand which was resting on the handle. I have to say I have never come across such blatant rudeness nor inhospitable treatment on holiday in Scotland before. He may not have wanted our custom, he may not have thought it appropriate for us to use his not-for-the-public facilities, but there was no need for such blatant rudeness.Don’t go there!

We stayed a few nights - the hotel sits in a lovely position, also convenient for exploring the island. The restaurant is the highlight - the food comes in daily and the menu is always different, usually featuring one land and one sea option for both starters and mains. Excellent cuisine for both breakfast and dinner. The service was very good and the staff went the extra mile to accommodate our requests. The wine list was interesting, with very good wine at reasonable prices. The room was nice, furnished in old traditional style, with just a bath rather than a shower which was a minor inconvenience, but nothing major. I'm only giving it a 4 instead of a 5 star because of price - it's quite pricy (especially given the small portions) but worth the treat. Given that there appeared to be always fewer guests for dinner compared to breakfast, I can only guess this was the reason.

We booked a table for our 42nd anniversary and were not disappointed. We were met at the door with the warmest of welcomes and were led to a comfy sofa in front of a roaring log fire, which was heaven on a bitterly cold November night. The pretty little canapes melted in our mouths, and that was just the start of a wonderful meal.Following a delightfully velvety mushroom veloute we had pigeon and scallops (not together!) for our starter and they were the perfect appetiser for the main event - spicy monkfish with risotto for me and tenderloin of venison for hubby, all served with exquisite little mouthfuls of scrummy accompaniments to make our mouths water. The puddings were to die for - a melting chocolate fondant and a plate of rum-roasted plums with gorgeous caramelised brioche and other yummy things! The staff were attentive without being intrusive, the atmosphere warm and welcoming - what more could you ask for? We live on Skye and were just out for a drive. We stopped at the Hotel hoping to have afternoon coffee and a chance to just sit and take in the views for half an hour. The Hotel Restaurant has 5 Stars posted outside, so we reckoned Coffee for two was within their capablities. On enquiring if they served coffee, the chap at Reception thought about it then answered that, as they were short staffed and the staff they did have weren't due back on until 4pm (this was around 3pm), they couldn't supply us with a Coffee! How difficult would it have been. They are a Hotel/Restaurant and in a fairly isolated spot. It is July, High season and they could so easily have turned our visit into a positive one. We were embarrassed to think that Foreign visitors might have the same experience. So much for Scottish Hospitality. We have a Holiday Cottage with a book of recommended places to visit for our guests. Based on our visit yesterday, the Ullinish will not be on the list and for that wee bit extra effort of making two cups of coffee, it would have been different.
