Udom Thai Restaurant in Southend-on-Sea

Honestly, this thai restaurant is wayyy better than the one in westcliff. You can taste the difference. Excellent service and the food is amazing!

We booked last minute on a Saturday night for 3 people. Restaurant had been recommended by our Thai friends. We arrived and were greeted and seated quickly and menus left. We were checked on and staff let us decide when we were ready for ordering and receiving food, they were very attentive, despite the restaurant being very busy. It had a lovely atmosphere. The food was amazing, having recently returned from Thailand, we were expecting authentic! We had the mixed starter for 2 plus salt and pepper prawns which were cooked to perfection. For mains, we had duck in tamarind sauce (very tender) , chicken and prawn green currues, vegetable pad thai , sticky rice and a papaya salad. We will definitely go again, it’s the best we’ve tried locally, thank you, lovely unexpected gem in the town.

Been coming here for quite some time. Good variety of food to choose from (vegetarian and non vegetarian). I ordered way more than what's for one person. Friendly helpful staff. they helped me to pack away the leftovers to take home

Excellent food with set meal planned and blended to give a combination of diverse flavours and textures which went together so well. Quantities just right to give a feeling of satiety. Staff welcoming and service both friendly and efficient.

Didn’t enjoy my expensive take away. The Pad Thai was too greasy and the prawns were tasteless. The Paneng Curry was too oily and watery. Fish cakes were tasteless and greasy and the sticky rice was hard, yellowing and too sticky.

Wonderful. We traveled from London and ended up here for lunch; although we didn't have a booing, they were kind enough to accommodate us. We had a big lunch for 2, and it was perfect. Every dish was done carefully and tasted like being in Thailand. Will be back

What a little gem this is, we went for a set menu with a variety of dishes. Everything tasted fab and fresh will certainly be back to try more. Beautiful teak furniture all hand carved a great spot we went for dinner

Ordered a mid week takeaway as our thai friend had recommended Udom to us. We spent some time in Thailand and absolutely loved the food there so are really pleased to find a new thai takeaway to try and we were not disappointed - honestly my husband thought this was one of the most authentic massaman curry he had ever tasted with melt in the mouth beef. All the dishes we ordered were delicious - highly recommend!

Food is nice. Service is good, staff are friendly. Nice clean place. Service charge is added onto bill, no hand wipes after meal or mint which is a down side. Some drinks on the menu are shown as measures sizes, expected drinks to be served in glass bottles for under £4 but instead drinks are served already poured into a glass.

Amazing Thai Food Place to go to! Everytime we go Southend Sea 🌊 we would need to visit this Udom for the authentic thai dishes. Good portion sizes, very sweet Thai Milk Tea for those with sweet tooths. Tom Yum soup was 👌 perfect blended with the right amount of spice, sour and flavour. Get the king prawn salad a must!

I’m in southend once every three weeks. Always eat here. Never disappointed!

So happy I visited this little gem as been searching for a restaurant that serves Tom Yum like in Thailand and was not disappointed! I am from Thailand myself so finding authentic Thai food is not easy to find. Everything was lovely and we were given an above and beyond customer service allowing us to make a special request, making recommendations etc. Just brilliant! P.S if you’re a tea lover, please try the Thai milk tea. Promise you won’t regret.

We had a wonton noodle soup and Beef slice noodle at lunch. We have been to Thailand many times so knows what the authentic flavor is. They were the same as what you eat in Thailand!! Great foods and great service. We will definitely come back again and spread the words to our family and friends!!

I've been coming to this restaurant as a regular customer for over a year. The food tastes great, authentic, service very friendly and the atmosphere relaxing. Like the Thai ambience. The lunch deals are good value for money, good variety on a la carte menu. Would highly recommend the Thai style salads and chef recommended dishes. Ingredients tastes fresh. After shopping I fancied a pad Thai . So we ordered a take away . Ordered 2x pad Thai prawn crackers and asked for pot of sweet n sour sauce . Food was yummy . Wasn’t till I got home realised I was charged £5 for a pot of sweet n sour sauce . Won’t make that mistake again .

What a fantastic meal, the jungle curry was hands down the best I’ve ever had, our table of six all thoroughly enjoyed our meals, the staff are so kind and welcoming, we could not find fault if we tried!

This is My Thai wife's favourite restaurants, we travel an hour to eat here. I eat Thai food everyday & have been to Thailand 20 times,,eaten from the far north to the deep south. This is good Thai food at no mistake. They do a different menu to most Thai restaurants, so nice for us, but I have no idea what the " tourist dishes" like pad Thai, currys etc are like, as we tend to avoid those in the UK. The staff are always friendly & the prices are very good compared to London. All in all a great example of a UK Thai restaurant.

Wow, what a hidden treasure in the most unlikely place, the food is excellent, fabulous service, you could not ask for more, could not fault the food and cannot wait to go back.

Not looking much from the outside, we were unsure what to expect, but upon entering we we greeted by a lovely atmosphere and gentle music. Staff were polite and friendly. We ordered food and drinks, both of which arrived very quickly. I did request a sauce change with the starter which was not enacted and we asked for tap water 3 times but did not get this either. However the food was delicious, the massaman curry was probably the best curry I've every had, very tasty and a deceptively large portion. Would certainly recommend and am sure we will be ordering from here in the future.

Very busy on a Saturday night so book to avoid disappointment and you will not be let down. Food amazing so tasty and plenty of choice. Staff very friendly and prices reasonable and even though we live an hour away we will definitely come back as the only word I can use to describe this place is SUPERB

Visited this restaurant after reading tripadvisor reviews and we were not disappointed. The booking system was efficient. Staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive, And the food was fantastic, just the right level of spice, delicious.

I have eaten Thai food in other cities before but loved this place. Came with my wife for our wedding anniversary. We got a nice selection of food. I especially loved the beef massaman which was the nicest massaman I have tasted. Hospitable friendly staff and we will definitely be back to this gem in Southend.

After a long day at Adventure Island we wanted something other than the traditional. Found this place by chance and OMG so glad we did! Amazing dishes, lovely staff and spotlessly clean. Everything we ordered was fantastic, amazing flavour and well presented. Will definitely be going back next time we visit Southend

Visited last night with my partner, service with a smile, we had dumplings 🥟 ribs, king prawns to start with all amazing. Chicken green curry and pad Thai noodles absolutely delicious. This is the best Thai food I have had in this area, it’s definitely worth a visit, good price excellent service I would highly recommend

This was our first visit and we will definitely be returning. The service was wonderful and the food was fresh and tasty. Each dish chisen was delicious and very little left at the end. They happily packed the bits that were for us to take home. Highly recommended

Very lovely food, lively atmosphere unfortunately rude member of staff couldn't wait for us to leave. Was very rude. He desperately wanted the table it appeared.

Food was okay. Not as good as other thai we had in other parts of country as we were visiting Southend-on-Sea for the day. We only ordered 2 mains (no starters, desserts or drinks) and it took well over 30 mins to come. There was no apology and yet they took "service charge" when there was substandard service.

The food tasted good, but I questioned their hygiene. I found half a hundred hairs in my spring rolls, which were obviously not mine. But they didn't actively address the issue, instead a lady brought me a new one only after I called the wait staff twice. But she used her hands directly (?) grabbed the rest of the spring rolls from my plate. When the chef came out of the kitchen I saw that none of them were wearing chef's hats to stop their hair falling out. I won't be coming back. Btw I didn't understand the service charge at all, she didn't even apologize to me

Amazing restaurant with good price! A small front with a small door but such delicious food! Already found my preferred restaurant in Southend

Visited with my wife for the first time since the pandemic. Tuesday evening, so quite quiet. Tables well spaced, so no feeling of being crowded. Staff were welcoming and attentive, but discreet and not overwhelmingly in your face. We ordered one of the set meals for two, and found the food well presented and delicious - a good selection of flavours and textures in well balanced proportions which made the dining experience a delight. We'll definitely be back, and not leave it so long before the next time!

We ordered the top priced set menu earlier this evening as a first time customer. We were advised it would take 20-30 minutes to deliver. It took almost an hour and that’s on a Tuesday evening. Food was cold, the menu didn’t match that shown online (no spare ribs, dumplings instead. No egg fried rice, boiled rice instead). Duck and steak were chewy, papaya salad (ordered as an extra) just tasted of some sort of powdered spice (chilli maybe?). Cost £60 for what was fundamentally £10 worth of cold food. Won’t order again which is a shame as had been recommended this place by local Thai friends.

We had the Set Menu C for two people and the food was fantastic. It was very good value and the staff were excellent. This is our new "go to" restaurant in Southend whenever we go to the theatre there.

STAY AWAY. Absolutely shambolic! The most rude manageress ever come across, her name she gave me was Bee. Ordered a delivery. She gave the driver the wrong food then proceeded to laugh at me and said 'what do you want me to do'. Refused to give me a refund. Rude customer service, terrible. The food arrived 1.5 hours later freezing cold. The manager handed me the phone to the owner who said 'I'm not giving you my name just speak'. They refused to refund me. The owner was so rude I am disgusted. I even offered to drive the food back.

Two hours delivery. Just wasting my time.

Visited Udom on a thursday night. Dropped on with no booking but was made to feel welcome straight away. We really liked the atmosphere which was very relaxed. As for the food it was delicious. Lots of choice on the menu was the only problem...

Friendly staff great surroundings and some great carved art on the walls. Only down point is its rather expensive

Been here a few times over last year and can solidly say it's worth its 3/5 starts I enjoyed what I ate and food was hot and well presented with Clean restrooms, spacious restaurant, seating for 2-6 per table. However, it is in a very rough part of town and I think it's rather rude that the service charge is mandatory. Usually I split the tips but on this occasion it was an odd number so to make it divisible by 2 we asked to reduce it by 1 penny to which they refused, when we tried to remove the service charge all together they said because we ate in we must pay it? It's a big deal for me but not for everyone so make of it what you will

Lovely food & great service & perfect Thai ambience. Had Thai green curry & rice. It was one of the tastiest Thai green curry that I had in the UK. The rice also was done perfectly well. Congrats to the chef! The ambience of the restaurant is very nice. The staff is great. Would definetely recommend! 5 star!
