Ashiana in Southend-on-Sea

Looking for supper before a nearby concert we contacted Ashiana at short notice. They were super efficient in serving a memorable meal very promptly. Top marks for both the Lamb Shatkora and the Bindi Gosht!

Did not enjoy the food at all. There are very limited options when it comes to buffet.

Food quality is not good at all

Never disappoints, could not fault. Another perfect visit, treated like family by Raj & Bob as always, chef is on point every time without fail, we’re running out of superlatives for these guys 👌

As always an amazing meal with fantastic service. On arrival, you're greeted as if your family , nothing is too much trouble. Advice given on menu choices and always spot on! You are looked after from start to finish and nothing is too much trouble. Always delicious and always made to feel so welcome.

I ordered a delivery last night as have always enjoyed their food but last night it was inedible... all the meat tasted VERY salty and had to throw it away which is a shame as have always enjoyed the food previously.

Celebrated my Birthday last night with friends and family and what a fantastic evening. Staff, food and atmosphere was outstanding, thank you for making it a great night. We'll definitely be back

Shocking performance, blatantly trying to rip us off with their Valentines Day menu. I booked a table with you 3 weeks ago in your restaurant and YOU did not inform me there was a set menu - I don't eat at restaurants that have set menus as they are a scam, as yours most certainly was!!! We decided to leave then my partner and I were subject to all kinds of abuse. One of the waiters followed us out into the street and hurled move abuse. Disgraceful behaviour towards your customers!! I have no idea how you’ve won any awards, totally unacceptable service all round. I would not recommend your restaurant to anyone and I hope that people that read this review acknowledge the appalling service and behaviour we experienced and go elsewhere. There are plenty of much better curry houses around Southend that care and look after their customers!!! In response to your reply, I booked the table directly IN YOUR RESTAURANT!! YOU DID NOT MAKE ME AWARE OF A SET MENU AT THE TIME OF BOOKING - that is your mistake, not mine! My partner did not want to eat the amount of food on your set menu, she ordered one starter dish and rice, yet you still wanted to charge £30. That is inflexible, not customer centric and a BLATANT RIP OFF. When we decided to leave you immediately became abusive. It seems you only look after those customers that don't raise any questions about your so called value for money menus. You clearly have no capacity to deal with customers that want something different from what YOU want. Don't forget, your business is wholly dependant on having customers show up at your restaurant. If you don't treat people properly your business will fail...YOU FAILED!! Word gets around about poorly run businesses!!!

AWFUL EXPERIENCE! Rude, sexist staff who have no idea about customer service. Have visited previously and the food was mediocre at best, this time we left before food due to the attitude of the staff who then became abusive. All these one star reviews can't be wrong!!

After living in the area for over 20+years hearing the name but never knowing where it was-this is now our go to! We’ve visited the restaurant twice and have had a takeaway. Our last visit was last night and I cannot fault the food, service and atmosphere. We went with friends, we always try something different, my husband chose the Khata Mitta and it didn’t disappoint! Helpful attentive staff, great evening and left full to the brim and happy! See you again soon.

Had an amazing dinner at Ashiana, booked for just after they opened and the restaurant filled very quickly. Food arrived swiftly and was all very hot. Ordered starters and mains and was very impressed with flavour and texture of all the food. This is the second visit but is the second of many more to come.

We visited the restaurant a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it, so much so that we mention it regularly when we’re trying to decide where to eat out (unfortunately we’re not local enough to come here on a whim). Dined here again tonight and as before the food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. I wish I could give more than 5*! I’d even go so far as to say this is our favourite restaurant in South Essex!

As regular customers we thought we would try the Sunday buffet last night, the staff were amazing as always and we were very pleasantly suprised by the quality of the buffet food. We would always recommend ordering from the menu, especially the chef's specials here, but the buffet was very good and we were looked after with the usual Ashiana family welcome.

Came here for my birthday. They were wonderful. Delicious food, candles in a cake. Always such a wonderful experience. We are regulars for a reason :)

Amazing food and service from the staff was 10/10, came here for dinner with my girlfriend, the lamb saag was delicious, as was my girls madras, the staff were attentive and very accommodating. We even got a complimentary drink after for my birthday, there is a reason this restaurant is a top restaurant in Southend! Highly recommend!

Lovely to see Bob, we used to visit Bob in his old restaurant in Leigh and have not seen him for around 12 years, the quality of food and hospitality is still 100% like visiting family but with the added bonus of great food. Thank you Bob and the team, be back soon for sure ❤️

I ordered a chicken tikka which was tough . Egg rice was wet . I was sat by the door it was very draughty , be an idea if the boss Bob put a piece of glass in the open panel Would never go there again !!!!

Very unhappy with our experience. When we first arrived and were seated, we were asked if we wanted a drink, asked for water while we waited for another person to join us. When they brought the waters out we were shocked to get 2 300ml bottles at £5 each. When i brought up how unreasonable the price was with the waiter and said all i asked for was tap water he said he would speak to his manager then proceeded to ignore me. I went up and spoke to the manager and was informed tap water isnt available when having the buffet. Nowhere in the menu online or behind the bar is this mentioned. The buffet starters came and were very dry. Leaving me wanting more water, i once again asked for tap water as was told the only option available for water was the overpriced small bottled water. Onto the main buffet course. The curries were nice, the naans were dry and once again leaving me thirsty. Overall i wouldnt get the buffet again. I would try the normal menu however not being able to get a simple glass of tap water was enough to leave me very dissatisfied and will not return

Am really disappointed with my first time visiting, after many recommendations! Having a rare date night and looked forward to going somewhere new. From the moment we arrived I felt uncomfortable with the servers who seemed quite young and didn’t like that I asked some questions. For example what would they recommend we tried. Couldn’t get straight answers so opted for the buffet instead. Which I hadn’t bothered and took hubby to be up on offer to go somewhere else. Food was served warmish and quite bland. Which was very off putting to keep eating. Prawns very over cooked and still had the waste line in them, lamb was chewy. As a result of not eating enough I did end up a bit tipsy and the looks one of the male servers kept giving me I couldn’t wait to leave! People like that give the good workers in hospitality trade a bad name, such a shame

First time eating here and glad we did. Very clean and excellent and polite service. The food was delicious. We were made to feel welcome and even had a complimentary baileys at the end. Totally recommend.

Went for a meal here for the first time. The food was delicious, the staff went out of their way to make sure we were happy. We had the buffet which was an excellent price and they cooked us a special vegetarian main course which was gorgeous. The dal was to die for!! Overall an excellent meal with fabulous service.

Cold food, rude service, pushy to sell you drinks, not to mention tried charging full price for an 8 year old child. Daylight robbery. Disgusted! Avoid!

It was my first visit in many years. I was greeted very politely. I was seated and asked if I wanted the buffet menu. Yes, I said. Drinks ordered along with my starters. They arrived promptly. The staff explained that once I had finished that, i could enjoy the buffet section. Once the staff realised I was disabled they immediately offered to help me carry my meal, even going for seconds. The flavours in the food were phenomenal, more than enough to send your taste buds in to overdrive. Lovely staff, and I would highly recommend that you visit for a Sunday buffet. Best of all the costs are only £12-95 per person...

Their own dishes are excellent, with loads of flavour and character. Some of our party had regular dishes which were also extremely tasty.

Give up with this place. Every time I try and pay by card they make it difficult and request cash say they will call back, don't and don't put order through. Late on deliveries and commit when they can't forfill. Can't even be straight up so you can order else where

Best Indian we've had, great atmosphere, very friendly staff and owner. This is now only one we use when in Southend. Can't recommend enough.

Score for atmosphere was no fault of restaurant or staff. There was a large table celebrating a 50th that were very loud. We didn't book but got a table for 3 straight away.

Excellent food as always and value for money, it was very quiet but it was very early evening. We will return again soon

Always a pleasure to experience this venues food, service and ambience. The food selection may seem overwhelming so be comfortable asking for recommendations, they are always spot on. The food is phenomenal as is the service from the whole team, with Raj leading the way. The gulab jamun is a particularly good dessert option Bob the main man will definitely look after you.

Had a takeaway last night and it was the worst Indian I’ve ever had. Dishes were watery, Bombay potatoes were just boiled potatoes, byriani vegetable curry was just potatoes. Never again
